There are showers but were locked with no door handle.Don't they have to provide shower facilities as it's actually a legal requirement for new services?

My boyfriend and I were stopping in the travelodge overnight visiting friends. The facilities in the services are fantastic. What isn't so fantastic is the ridiculous car parking charges of £20. I checked everywhere on signs machines etc to see if there was any excepts for visitors staying at the travelodge, no, no where did it say anything about it so I reluctantly paid the £20. This put me in a very bad mood. We then check in to recieve a parking permit!!!!! I am not happy at all. It also seems near impossible to get in contact with anyone about claiming this money back.

On my way to visit friends, called in for a quick break! Grabbed a coffee from costa, great service and a cake from greggs both were lovely. Will definitely call into these outlets again

Excellent. Always spotlessly clean. Good food at Le Petit Four although service in there can be erratic.

good stop off and ideal for an overnight as the town of Darwen , pubs , chip shop curries etc is only 5-10 mins walk .Only downside is the Travelodge could do with a spruce up as it is a bit tired . Nice french cafe for breakfast too.

Great service station , if a little off the motorway. The arcade is top-class and the McDonalds is an added bonus. Somerfield can be expensive , but then isn't every other one?

Does the McDonalds in this services serve food 24hr?

you should put on your site that you cant get any fuel as shell is not operating the garage

This is a great place to have an Alan Partridge moment and eat a Sunday MacDonalds on the car park, maybe shoot some baddies in the mini arcade and then buy an inflatable neck cushion from the Safeway.
There's also a radio station there.

The BP garage with the old 'Extra' badged shop is now operated by Shell (as of Feb 2008), so it appears there are no 'Extra' branded facilities on site anymore. Clean site but minimal facilities - I would argue that the majority of its custom is from the local area rather than from motorway users. At least there's a free cash machine.

In reply to a comment above. I would just like to tell the gentleman that the only way he can keep his card details secrect are by never ever using the card, not even once. I use credit card machines daily, whether you swipe electronically or manually, which ever outlet you are in will then have a copy of all your card details, even if its done electronically they will still have a paper copy. this must be kept for 6 years with acordance to hm revenue and customs.your experience seems like it was maybe caused by a member of staff not being trained correctly with their use of the card machine. i have always found the services rather pleasant and most accomodating.

During one of my regular visits to the services, I had the miss-fortune of suffering a mild stroke. The Staff were very helpfull in looking after me and calling an ambulance. I use the services on a daily basis as they are local to me and always recieve good service. The new coffee machine in the petrol station is fantastic!!

Visited the BP Fuel franchise on the Service Area and when I went to pay I had a very odd request from the young lady on the till. She told me she had had entered my fuel as a cash payment ( of £50 when I only actually bought £25 worth of fuel ) and then produced an old style manual card payment slip machine. I said I was not happy about my card details being copied in this way and the young lady asked me to go to the cashpoint and get cash to pay.Is it not possible to cancel a mistake before asking a customer to leave what is virtually all of my Card details on a slip with the garage ? I was disturbed by this request, as an internet user I take great care in giving my card details to anyone and this seemed too risky.

This MSA is local to me, and more townspeople use it than motorway users. This is hinted at even more by the fact that all the backstreets off the A666 in Darwen clearly have signs stating "No Access to Service Area"!
Bryn Buck, Sat 26 Aug 2006
Off motorway, more like a mini shopping centre. Bistro as well as a McDonalds. Pleasent stop over on the way to Harrogate.
