First visit to this services on the way to Liverpool. The staff were really nice and the lady manager was going around tiding the chairs and clearing tables. But went to the breakfast meals for a change, instead of from the well known burger chain. Paid Â£17.45 to two traditional breakfasts, cup of tea and coffee. The young lad serving was lovely but the food came out really cold. I asked the table sitting by us if theirs was the same. They said that theirs was ok. So I feel the dried out cold bacon and cold egg was the ones left out. So not stopping here again.

I went to get some food of a well known food outlet , When i asked a member of fresh food where can i put my rubbish trying to be respectful and because they were overworked i thought id try an help out.I was ignored twice considering she is supposed to be the waiter an me the customer, she forgot who was working for who.I wish i would of just thrown my rubbish on the floor for the waiter to clean up as i'm sure she wouldn't of ignored that. Poor manners goes no where an they will no longer be receiving my custom

I pulled into these services on the day that eastbound carriageway was closed for 5-hours due to a lorry fire 2 junctions on. The roundabout was at a complete standstill as well, so I decided to take some time out for comfort and to get some refreshment until the blockage cleared. After about 2.45 hours, I could see that the traffic out of the car park was beginning to move, so I set off myself. It still took me 10-minutes to queue off the Services site.Just over a week later, I have received a parking fine for Ã‚Â£90, because I stayed for longer than 2-hours. Under the unusual circumstances that day, I think that this is so unjust and I plan to appeal; although I will only have 14-days to do this.As this is along my regular commute, I will call in again to see how obvious the parking notices are!

We had a number of coaches at this services on November 25th. One driver reported seeing rats as big as rabbits. Another driver gave up counting when he got to 30 rats in 5 minutes. We have rang and emailed Roadchef and has not received any feedback.

I visited with my son on 18 November at 8pm, to be met by around 20 rats in 2 parking bays, scared of rats and horrified I drove of to fond more running around , this is not human and disgusting . I will be contacted the environmental health as it's unacceptable near and around eating establishments.

attempted to eat vegan at fresh food cafe. Appauling service one man and his family left after waiting 45 minutes for their cup of tea. I needed vegan and dairy free meal , specified what i could eat i.e anything veg, bread etc . staff didn't have a clue a long wait and as well as omitting the eggs in the meal managed to omit most of the vegetables. So as you can imagine didn't get much of a meal at all.
we have not been back and never will. PLease note the date is a reasonable estimate. But would strongly recomend some staff training in special diets as clearly haven't got a clue. Although i would recomend anyone with specific dietry requirements drive on.

Have just returned to Australia ,we stopped at the Roadchef to meet up with friends in the UK. Did not see any signs telling us there was time limit of 2 hours. Have just received a letter from the car hire firm advising us we had overstayed our limit and we have been hit with a fine plus an administration fee and VAT. DISGUSTING.Who pockets this money??

I have always stopped at this service station on my way from North Wales to Lancashire. Its an ideal distance for my refreshment break. But recent management of the toilets is disgraceful. Please see other comments. We see a notice saying a woman attendant is there, but where is she.? I have prostate problems and have to use a cubicle, but each time I go there are unusable toilets, overflowing with urine and solids, and others with no paper. I can be in severe pain looking for other facilities. Who can we report these things to at the time. Please learn from Lymm Truck stop which will get more usage as customers realise it is local and clean.

Having had a Costa Coffee and a break at about 0900 on 18/06/2014 during my journey from Skelmersdale to Chester I needed to go to the loo.As soon as I entered the loo an un pleasant smell hit me but when one has to go one has to go. The first cubicle I entered had no loo paper. The second loo was blocked and almost overflowing. It made me wretch. The third loo I tried had no loo paper. The last one I tried had loo paper and a big hole in the cubicle wall.
This is certainly a place to avoid.

Well I am astounded, I called in the services at 9.45 on a Saturday night where I was meeting up with someone in Costa. We had several cofees plus food and a long chat after which I went home. A week later a Ã‚Â£90 fine drops through the door because I had stayed over their two hour limit. I'm fuming because it's not as if I could have parked there and gone anywhere else, it was saturday night for god's sake, I was actually using the facilities, spending my hard earned cash. They'd only have to check the CCTV inside to see that. Anyway I find it unbelieveable that a motorway services fine you for taking a break, no matter how long it be. I will be appealing, although I shouldnt't imagine I'll get any joy from a 3rd party parking enforcement company.

I stopped at your service station on the 6th Feb at 23.40 hrs.Iparked in the coach park area,as there was no room for my truck and trailer in the HGV car park.While having my break I observed that the area is infested with rats.Big Rats. Initially I thought these were rabbits on closer inspection I realised that they were rats.There were no lids on the bins,that is why the traps are not working as they obtaining foods from these bins.I hope that this matter is dealt with straight away or I will be contacting the environmental health inspector.I look forward to your reply.

Absolutely minging!!! Gents toilets need closing down, and the lady who always seems to be on costa serving in the evening, is constantly drunk!!! Every time I go in, I have to use costa as the mcdonalds and other food unit is cold, dry slosh... The lady on costa stinks of booze, and looks exhausted..... Not good to come and see roadchef.

BEWARE! we have been sent parking charges showing pictures of our car entering and leaving Road Chef land ( for a coffee), stating we stayed there 3.42 minutes?! pictures show vehicle from front only which suggests to me its our car alright but going in TWICE! we did go in twice on one day, and they appear to be trying to charge us for going in at one time and leaving over 3 hours later, when in actual fact first pic is us going in at 11.31 and then us going in again at 3.42....(not one visit and staying there all that time) they also charge for being PARKED yet pictures show vehicle in motion??also initial charge was for Ã‚Â£50, second charge they added another Ã‚Â£30 which to my calculations and im no einstein totals Ã‚Â£80 and they want Ã‚Â£90? so be careful people, moral of the story is DO NOT visit same motorway services twice in one day else the powers that be may well try pull a fast one making out you were there all day! for info, inbetween those times, we were at cheshire oaks retail park! fighting this charge!

I know someone has just said this, but I thought I'd echo it. The gents toilets are not fit for purpose. I took my very young daughter in...there were two cubicles permanently locked, two with no seat, one with no toilet and the one we used which needed extensive seat and floor wiping before I'd let her in. I've complained about them here previously but they dont seem to care...

My husband, daughter and I visited Chester Services twice, either side of our holiday in Wales. On our first visit we had driven through some appalling weather and traffic and we were all a bit frazzled when we arrived. Initially we had problems finding a high chair and suitable food for our daughter, but to our relief we found the staff extremely helpful, in particular a young woman called Ashlea at the Hot Food Co. was great at helping us sort out lunch for our toddler daughter (we had our own food for her but it needed preparing). The facilities were clean and overall we all had a very positive experience on both visits.

If you're towing a caravan, do NOT follow the signs for caravan parking. The zone you're directed to is just more landscaped car parking, and can be difficult to manoeuvre within. There are no dedicated parking bays for caravans.If we visit again, we'll be parking with the trucks.

At approximately 13:30 hours on Friday 12th August 2011, myself and my family attended at the Chester Service Station on our way home from a family holiday in the Lake District. After a two hour drive in the car, my two young children went to WHSmith's to buy some sweets with the rest of their holiday money. My children then picked up a few sweets from the pick and mix section of the store and placed them inside a bag, as they weighed the sweets then then realised that weren't getting value for money so we as their parents told them to leave the bag of sweets behind and asked for their money back for safe keeping. We then left the store but unbeknown to ourselves a female member of staff had called my two young children back into the store,and told my eldest daughter she was not to leave the store until she had paid for the sweets. Feeling scared and intimidated my youngest daughter came running towards my husband and told him what had happened, my daughter was extremely upset.My husband went back inside the store to find out what the problem was. When he arrived back at the store, he could see that our daughter with two female members of staff that were very inpolite towards him. As my youngest daughter came to get my husband my eldest daughter that was with the staff members consentley stated worryingly that she had no money as we had took it back off them. They explained that my daughters had picked up the sweets from the shelves, sneezed over them and then left the bag behind and that the company couldn't put them back in the tubs to re-sell. When my husband asked our daughters if they had sneezed over the sweets they both informed him that they hadn't. My husband told the female staff members that they had the right to change their minds if they didn't want to purchase the sweets from the store. With this one of the members of staff asked my husband "Is this how you bring your daughters up?" to which my husband replied, "if it's that big a problem, call the police" My husband then walked out of the store with my two daughters feeling highly embarrassed at being humiliated in front of a number of persons inside the store. This whole experience inside the store made a good family holiday tarnished with a bad feeling. My youngest daughter on our way home from the service station was extremely upset and worried that they were going to get arrested for an incident that was badly managed by the WHSmith members of staff. If the members of staff had any issues then they should have dealt with the situation out of view of members of the public and with us as parents not have spoken to my children as if they were criminals.

Visited on Thursday afternoon at 4.30pm, 4th April 2011. My wife is disabled and we had our caravan with us so it is a considerable walk for her. The disabled toilets are not fitted with a RADAR lock so you then have too walk around to find someone, this resulted in my wife using the ladies - half of the toilets were out of order.
Sunday 10th April 2011, returning home without the caravan we were stuck in traffic for quite a long time. This was the first service area and was very busy - guess what half of the ladies toilets were still out of order. The weather forecast was for a sunny weekend so why did they not correct the problems so they could provide a better service??????

Arrived at Chester services at 9pm, hoping for a bite to eat - most was closed up and what was on offer appeared to be as though it had been lying there for many a day...I ended up with a coffee (why does the customer seem to be the least important item in a transaction). Barely a word from the girl serving, more intent on texting... I guess next time I'll come off and head for the Helsby Arms (1/2 mile away) I was told the food was fresh , the pub pleasant...What a misnomer - 'Services' - Anything but...Enough comments have been made about the gents toilets - unfortunately I have to confirm the worst I have ever seen..Dreadful place.

I visited on the 29/12/10 the whole place was freezing, they had some of those heaters that you see builders use but none were working.... The tables were either full of dirty dishes of coffee and food spills, the coffee from costa was cold and the toasted sandwich could have been used as frisby.... What a dump......

On Saturday 25/9/2010 I called into the road chef carpark for a paper and toilet stop at 9.59am stayed maybe 15 min maximum, as I was on the way to the Llanwedd Slate Quarries in North Wales from the Manchester area.
On the way back I stopped again around 5pm for comfort stop again for approx 20 mins.
The following Thursday I rec'd a letter from a security company licenced by Road Chef stating i had parked at their service station for 7hrs and 1 min from 9.59am until 5.01pm in the process telling me i had to pay an Ã‚Â£80 fine! reduced to Ã‚Â£50 if i paid by the 12/10/2010 which was very kind of them oh and threatening to add admin costs if not paid in 28 days.
This is bordering on the stupid who on earth would park there for over 7 hours ?They sent two photographs one at guess ... 9.59am and the other at 5.01pm. If they have these two photos then they should have photo of me leaving at 10.15am approx and another returning later that evening ? but can they be bothered to check.
Added to which I fortunaly bought a wrist watch at the slate quarries on my debt card which only myself has the pin number to which my bank confirms was processed at 2.33pm and 50 secs at the slate quarries over 100 miles away. I challenge Road Chef and their security company to produce any photograhic evidence i was there between say 10.30pm and 4.30pm they can't because i was not there !
Be warned this company are trying to justify there existance and are not interested in if you innocent or not and just bully people to get them to pay regardless of if u are guilty or not.
There must be a question mark also about the DVLA giving personal information out about an individual whatever happened to the Data Protection Act.
If anyone has advise on how to proceed again this i would appreciate it

When we visited Chester Roadchef today at about 9.45am there were only 2 disabled parking spaces available. I cannot walk very far and so I need a disabled space. As we parked, an old green Astra parked in the other disabled space right next to the entrance (T874 AVP). The womam jumped out and whilst she was locking her car I reminded her that she had not displayed her disabled blue badge. She rudely mumbled a comment and went inside. As we entered the services I saw immediately that she worked on the Wimpy counter. On my return later that afternoon the car was still parked there and she was still working on the Wimpy counter. I think it disrespectful of anyone taking a disabled space who has no right to use one let alone a member of the staff who just wants to be near the door. It gives a very poor impression of the company itself when staff do this and also of the site manager who does not check for blue badges in the designated spaces and make a point of discipling staff who are taking advantage. From the other comments I have read on this page it seems about time Head Office took a very close look at the manner in which this service station is being is being run and managed.

The services are fine plenty of parking, good shop and pleasant staff. However the gents toilets are an absolute disgrace, 3 out of 8 were out of order, 2 others had NO locks and another had just blocked up. Totally disgraceful for a PUBLIC toilet to have no lock!

Recently I had the misfortune to be running out of driving time and found myself pulling into Chester MSA. It was 6.50pm and I grabbed my wash gear and headed for the loo's, I refuse point blank to use any of Raodchef's toilets for reasons I will explain why later.
So, freshened up I headed to the Wimpy counter and as I walked towards the counter I was greeted with...' Were closed' !!
It was 7.05pm, I asked her to repeat what she said as I couldn't believe it, and duly got 'were shut' ! The duty manager confirmed it too, aparantly they operate seasonal hours, great I thought. I was told that I could order in the main restaurant but only till 8.00pm, but eating dried up food is not my idea of a decent meal, neither is Wimpy, but trust me, its the betteroption.. After 8.00pm we are left with Costa coffee, which is coffee, cake and Ã‚Â£4.00 sandwiches.
For those who may be unaware, truck driver's have to work to a strict daily working time directive and without wishing to bore you we can work upto 15hours in a day(Driving and other work), and all we ask for is somewhere clean and decent to park up for the night and refresh ourselves...Is that too much to ask for ??
Roadchef in my opinion dont give 2 hoots for the transport industry whatsoever, currently it costs Ã‚Â£21.50 to park at Chester with a Ã‚Â£10 meal voucher or Ã‚Â£19.00 pounds without, but you have to be there before 7.00pm to get a Wimpy.
Do you think my employer would take this into account...Oh i'm sorry boss, I cant load that tonight as I have to be parked upby 7 !!And by law, if your carrying chemicals under ADR conditions we have to park in service areas...We have no choice in the matter. Come on ROADCHEF, we dont have the choice to work part time hours to suit you, shouldn't YOU be listening to what your customers WANT and need, staying open till 9.00pm is not unreasonable considering you are in the service sector.

As i mentioned earlier, I wont use any Roadchef shower's whatsoever, they are the most digusting one's on the motorway network. If you dont believe me then I recommend you go have a look in the room at the bottom of the gents. But be careful of what youstand in when you walk inside. You see, the showers are constantly open until someone using the room locks it from the, and not always are they showering !!! This has been reported to managers at both Chester and Sandbach..
As of yet, Roadchef have not replied to a feedback form sent to them nor do I expect them too, so lets start something and see what else is wrong with them elswhere !!

avoid taking a caravan into this MSA at all costs, use a lay-by. Very tight turn into designated area with high kerb, very poor signs, even two signs one of which points to dead end blocked by pile of soil.
