I stopped here for food, we couldn't find a clean table in the main seating area, if we weren't so hungry I would have walked out. We went to Burger King and it was great friendly smiling guy serving the food and all the tables were clean.
Bay for disabled not cleared of snow or gritted. Treacherous to negotiate an old lady in a wheelchair to the toilet. Disgusted. Carers could not stand to transfer old lady to wheelchair. Drove onto Trowell and found the same. Also a moto service I think. Disgusting. Date visited 28th Dec 2014 at 12.15.

Visited mid-afternoon Sat 27th Dec returning from Christmas family visit, there had been a 7/8cm snowfall the previous evening/night. No effort had been made to do any clearing - perhaps wouldn't expect the whole parking area to be cleared but the footpaths from the parking bays to the entrance should have been cleared and gritted. I would have thought that considerations of customer service and comfort apart, the risk of claims for falls would have made this a priority.
Inside was squalid - tables and floor covered with litter and food detritus and no sign of anyone clearing or cleaning. Given the price premium one pays here a bit of attention to hygiene and customer comfort is not an unreasonable expectation.

Clean and well kept service area, beautiful scenery and a lake out the back although a bit cold to be sitting outside in November the view from Costa was lovely whilst drinking my hot chocolate. The Costa staff were really smiley and friendly, excellent service.

Watch out for unscrupulous make-up salesman and his assistant. They ask if you would like a bag,then hand you one. When I said that I had to go to the toilet he asked for the bag back. When I said but you have just given this to me, he replied that he never said it was free. All indications pointed to freebie handouts.After a 2.5 hour drive from Essex, I was very angry at being harassed and intimated in this way. This con man masquerading as a salesman thought it was a big joke.I would have thought that Moto management might have been a bit more discerning as to whom it lets commercial space at its services stations.

I am absolutely disgusted with this Service station. I was travelling From Essex to West Yorkshire and I am severely disabled and a wheelchair user, we were travelling in a convoy of 4 cars. We stopped at this service station 12 people purchased meals and I suffer with a life threatening condition called Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency I had an attack and needed a life saving injection, I needed to rest as I was not well at all, we nearly required an ambulance. I rested and took all my relevant medication, my family stayed with me and purchased further refreshments also. This easily came to over Ã‚Â£200, I was dismayed today that some of us have received parking fines, in the disabled bays there was no mention of paying for parking. It is disgusting that I was taken ill through no fault of my own, this condition can happen at any time and then you get fined. I am absolutely dismayed we were sitting on by the picnic bench area and there were no signs, otherwise we would of paid even in the dire circumstances we were in. This is disgusting profiteering from misfortune like this. I could of died and you want to cash in on that experience, its sickening for me and my family.

Had been asked to meet ref business at this service station. Not an avid service station meeting man, specially as from the south.
Well received a parking fine today, Ã‚Â£50, I got up at 5.30am to get there for 9.30am, my first meeting was late, 11.15 he turned up, making my second meeting later. I am obviously unhappy, but due to not even thinking of any time limit, as I was using their facilities, Food and coffee and that I did not see any signs stating the parking situation, honestly I did not look, but they were not visible from where I had parked.
Not even employed and travelled 2hr 40mins to get there and same back, just to meet possible employers, hard enough without the added costs I did not calculate in.
Will be more the wiser next time to actually make sure if there are any extra costs. But won't help with the food bill!

Stopped at Harvester at Services n M1 heading North on Friday. Thought we would break a 6 hour journey and were looking forward to a great steak meal. Oh dear what a shocking experience. Waited 5 minutes to be seated in an seating area less than half full. Eventually asked one of 4 waiting staff if we could have a seat and then waited another 10 minutes before we caught her eye to give an order. The salad bar was virtually empty and we asked for some bread and were told we had to wait for it to be heated. The food arrived 40 minutes after we had arrived and the steak was cold overcooked and truly the worst piece of rib eye they could have found. The mash was lumpy and tasted of reheated smash. The peas were beans. Our extra order of onion rings arrived 5 minutes later after the chef made a fuss and told the waitress that he had already given them to us. The onion rings were the only palatable part of the meal. 1 hour later we finished what we were able to eat. Had we not been starving and mid way on a long Friday night journey we would have left sooner. 2 steak dinners and 1 cider and 1 lemonade came to exactly Ã‚Â£40. What a waste of our time and money.

We have just returned from a wedding in Yorkshire, travelling from Portsmouth in our motorhome. This seemed a good place for an overnight stop and we arrived about 5.30pm last Thursday. Having read all the negative comments about parking fines we went straight to WH Smith where I paid Ã‚Â£11.00 for 24 hrs parking with free use of showers included. We parked in the area between cars and lorries and had a comfortable night - soon getting used to the noise of lorries starting up and driving away. Friday morning we went to the showers. The female shower was in the 'Family Suite', toilet, baby change area, wash basin and a large separate shower cubicle. It was absolutely immaculate, warm and with soap, hand dryer and paper towel. Plenty of room to hang clothes, towel etc. I then waited for my husband in Costa (where we paid more than twice the High Street price for our usual hot chocolate) and asked how his shower was. To my amazement he said the shower was OK but that the surroundings were disgusting ! Filthy, run-down and not somewhere he would visit again ! Having read similar comments before visiting I assumed that the toilets had undergone a refurb - perhaps this is true of the Ladies but certainly not the Gents.

I visted the services on 20 July and wanted to try the Harvester breakfast, The Waitress took my order with lashings of free tea as musch as you could drink, Other people came in and ordered much less than I was and were getting there drinks. I sat there for more than 10 minutes still no drink, then suddenly the waitress said to me you did order drinks with you breakfast, with that I got up and walked out parched for my tea and no breakfast at Harverster for me.

Myself & family visited the Harvester at Donington Park Saturday on our way to a family event in Leeds. It was just like being in any Harvester restaurant! We got seated straight away & our starters were out within 20mins. Our 2 year old is a bit of a picky eater so the lovely waitress gave us some ideas on what to order. We were back on the road in under 2 hours, fit for bursting & fully rested. We would definitely stop there again.

Went to eat at the Harvester; as it sat down I found there was over a hours wait for food, this makes mind wonder when there is a two hour parking limit.
Sat for 30 min waiting to give food order but was totally ignored by staff.
One girl was running around doing all the work taking orders, clearing tables etc. while another chap just stood and watched her, he made no attempt for all the time I was there to help her in any way.
Eventually I had enough and tried to walk out to find the entrance was blocked by a ribbon, the chap who had been standing there opened the ribbon, apparently that was his job, I asked why he had for over half an hour not helped the girl clear tables, I pointed out every table around us needed clearing and he was just stood there doing nothing, he told me it was not his job, I asked if he was part of a team, he replied yes, enough said.
If this chap worked for me he would now be on the dole.
As I walked out several other table also rose and followed me, we all went to the burger king and where served in minutes.
Last time I saw this attitude by staff was at a little chef....
They have now gone bust...

How you can justify charging Ã‚Â£1.00 to use the tyre air line beggars belief. Little wonder your petrol station has more staff than customers. I didn't wait to ask how much the coffee is. Whoever set that charge knows less about business than my goldfish.

What a grubby little income stream this service station has fining people for parking using cameras.
I met with two colleagues for a business meeting and we were there more than 2 hours and spent money in the service station.
Some three weeks later all three of us received over linmit fines amounting to Ã‚Â£150, if paid promptly.
We had used this place as a venue and it reduced our overall travelling but obviously any savings we made were wiped out.
This is not supposed to be what service stations are about. The word "service" needs to be revisited.
I am so annoyed by this that I have made it a mssion not to use any of these service stations again so that it costs them well over Ã‚Â£150 in the long run.

I was let off the fine on appeal Time for Which campaign or watchdog.

Best thing about this place is probably the location. On a nice day, you can take your fast food/M&S sandwich/Costa coffee out the back and sit at a picnic table near the small pond and take in the fantastic view and forget for a few minutes (certainly not more than 2 hours to avoid parking fines!) that you are somewhere half way up the M1.

passed through last Thursday and again this Friday. On both occasions was approached by a casual, but well-dressed man around 30, 5' 9"" tall fair hair, reasonably well dressed. His scam is as follows; he claims to need a few pounds to get home because his fuel card has run out. We gave him two pounds on the first Friday only to be approached by the same guy the following week with the same story. When confronted he became very defensive and rushed off.
I later saw him in the M&S shop where he was clearly looking for his next victim to approach and left M&S following asian tourists. I was not able to find any security people to talk to, but clearly many people have been caught by the car parking police!

I regularly visit this service station as its by far the best on my normal route. For those complaining about being fined for parking it clearly states you get TWO HOURS FREE PARKING and then you're charged. This is not difficult to understand and if you can't then maybe you shouldn't be driving. If you need more then you can go in WHSmith and pay for it. Simple. This service station is light and airy with a little picnic area and plenty of dog walking space. The Travelodge is basic but modern and clean. Rooms are quiet even though some of them overlook the service station concourse. Just bear in mind that its not one you drive straight off the motorway and then back on. Its only a very short drive (less than 30 seconds to get to it Northbound) but something to bear in mind. The signs could be better as it tells you to come off and then there are no more signs till you are literally on the roundabout where you turn. You start to wonder where exactly the services are.Overall well recommended. Been when things go wrong but where don't they. Just remember "Two Hours Free Parking" means you can park for free for two hours and then you have to pay regardless of the Ã‚Â£100's you might be spending there. Bear in mind that this is the same at most service stations so if you drive past all the ones that do that you might need to invest in a flask and an empty bottle. Also its free parking if you stay in the hotel. Just give them your car reg.

I have just received a Ã‚Â£80 fixed penalty notice for parking over the two hours at this service station. I never saw any signs because I wasn't looking for any restrictions on parking at a service station! I have just checked google maps street view for the site. The signs are there but they are small on the entry to the site and not that clear once you have parked.Its an absolute disgrace. MOTO should be ashamed of themselves. The number of people that have been caught out by this scam must be enormous. Changes in the law may not have an impact on this type of activity, so from now on I will avoid all MOTO sites. I will also advice all my work colleagues to avoid this service station and all other MOTO stations. Anyone who will listen to me will be told.

Caution to anyone using this service station for more then 2hrs! Went there for a business meeting, 3hrs, while eating and drinking........and guess what got charged Ã‚Â£80 for the privelege! one week later a 'fine'. All for parking, while i'm inside spending my money. Moto seriously needs to look at its self when in comes to customer relations. Needless to say, i will be driving right on by next time.

I'm currently working away, my wife tells me over the phone that I'd received a Ã‚Â£80 parking fine for castle donnington, for parking for 5 hours? Very confusing.I thought the only place I parked was the service station. Then looked on here and can't believe my eyes the amount of people who have had the same thing done to them. Firstly I'll be doing everything within my legal power to not pay this fine, why should you be fined for parking at a motorway services that i'd spent over Ã‚Â£100 at with fuel and food etc, it would have been cheaper for me to book a room at the travel lodge than to try and get a few hour sleep in the car form the hours of 18:30 to 23:00. This is an outrage, how dare they do this. So now you get charged for trying to be safe on the roads, because correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there motorway signes that say , 'tiredness kills, take a break'! These people Should therefore be taken to task by the police and any other legal system possible for endangering lives!! Very angry it's a bl##dy motorway services and if they state that they are then this should be highly illegal, as a motorway services is for public use and convienience not another underhand scheming filthy trick to fleece you for more cash. I urge everyone to avoid this place and drive by it, it's overpriced anyway!!!

Called in at filling station at 3.45pm Friday 17th December. Hot water tap in disabled lavatory was scalding hot and caused skin loss across my left thumb and scald on right hand.

I called Tuesday evening about 9pm. Only the EDC cocession was open for light refreshments. I asked for soya milk for my coffee and had a flat refusal. When I asked why they didn't have soya milk, the girl serving me looked at aniother girl, who appeared to be managing the outlet. She said curtly "sold out".
I don't mind if a seller is apologetic that they can't help me, but I had the impression from these staff that they simply couldn't care. I'm not confident that soya milk will, in the future be "bought in", and I won't be returining to this service station for a refreshment stop.

Recently visited this service station on route to Liverpool. Found it clean, pleasant location inside and out. The employees were very helpful and polite. Four days later my husband discovered that he had mislaid his glasses. Through a process of elimination realised that he had left them at the service station - at the Costa coffee kiosk. The customer services were very helpful when we telephoned to enquire if the glasses had been handed in. Thankfully they were found. Four days later they were returned by post at no cost. Thank you.

I have never ever found any problems with any service station ever, if I happen to see rubbish still left on any tables I just don't let it bother me, actually last service station I stopped at was Watford gap and while I was sitting eating my salad a worker was clearing up rubbish.As for the two hour parking limit, who on earth would wanna spent anywhere near two hours at any service station anyway

I am fumming at the service and attitude towards customers from these services.
I Visited last Thursday 19-08-2010 and stayed for a total of 3hours and 40minutes. Despite spending in excess of Ã‚Â£40 on food and drink for myself and the two clients I met there, and another Ã‚Â£12 on wifi I have just received a Ã‚Â£80 Parking ticket. I can honestly say I never saw the sign on the way into the services, I understand why they charge people to park if they leave their car there all day and don't use the facilities but I was there and I spent a considerable amount of money in there. I have tried to call the number on both the parking fine and the services directly but nobody is available to talk about my situation.
Luckily I am passing there on Monday so I will call in and see if I can talk to someone about it.
I will let you know how I get on!

On 7th July 2010 I met 2 other collegues to discuss buiness over lunch. Our meeting went on a bit longer and so we bought teas, coffees and other refreshments throughout the afternoon. We must have spent a fortune. however a couple of weeks later I got a letter through the post demanding Ã‚Â£80 for the privilage of parking there while I and my colleuges spent our money in the services. This is nothing short of legalised highway robbery and I would urge anyone contemplating going to this service station to think again and press on the the next one. I am seriously looking into the legal aspexcts of this with my solicitors. You should make some kind of registration available to motorists at pay points so that they can register their car as being there legitimately.

Just got a parking ticket through the post. I never saw any notices about parking restrictions - parked conveniently just outside door. Stayed for a meeting with a colleague pruchasing many refreshements. I won't be going here again as they are purely out to fleece motorists

Attended a meeting here with 3 colleagues as we quite often do. This meeting dragged on and we stayed nearly 4 hours. Whilst there we all purchased lunch and a couple of drinks.
I also purchased refreshments for my onward journey down the M1.
Imagine my shock when I today received an Ã‚Â£80 fine for overstaying the 2 hour 'free' period.
I have offered to send reciepts etc to prove I was in there spending money but I've had no response from the appeals section

I know that Moto have an appeals process for anyone who feels they shouldn't have received a parking notice. If you or someone you know has been a customer or fallen asleep and a parking notice has been issued, log onto the moto web site and get in touch with them. Additionally, they have an on-site duty manager who is able to address any customer concerns or queries before you leave the service area.

This is outrageous profiteering and you should hang your heads in shame.Clearly you have an interest in road safety. If you are travelling with a dog up the M1 and need to walk it - this is the best service station I have ever been to. Walk across the lawn, past the pond and then if you take the path to the left it turns into a footpath which you can follow for miles - completely travel free!

Items were over expensive in the service station and i lost 2 x Ã‚Â£1 at the air pumps at the fuel station because the machines are not working correctly, you speak to the staff at the petrol station and they are not interested, they just give you a phone number where no one answers the phone !!! what more can i say -- AVOID THE PLACE !!!!

I also got caught out with a fine here. I usually pay when parking for a break at motorway services, but this time I was on my way home (farther up the M1), and called in for a couple of hour's rest. Overslept by a couple of hours, so it was a fair cop I suppose! Got an Ã‚Â£ 80 fine reduced to Ã‚Â£ 40 for early payment. All part of the cost of motoring, I guess. Beware!

i stopped and waited for my colleague to arrive behind me, we then ate, were unaware of the parking restrictions, and both, having spent some Ã‚Â£40 plus on site received fixed penalty charge fees! through the post, ridiculous and with no appeal due to ours being company lease vehicles and the company paying FPN's immediatly.my question? how can a private company issue FPN's?

regarding the parking at this site..we were asked to attend a broken down coach and subsequently 4 months later recieved an Ã‚Â£80 fine..the system works with a camera taking a picture of your vehicle entering the services and then a picture is taken when you leave.if you were there over 2 hrs then you are fined by a computer..BEWARE...

the signs about the free parking are not well signposted, we overstayed our 2 hours only to get a fine in the post for Ã‚Â£80! Our friends who me met there from America got one too and they arrived at a different time to us and didnt see any signs either.We chose this venue as it was halfway between Birminham where they flew into and us in Nottingham, to say i am disapointed is an understatement.The services were good though and nice seating outside. What a shame it left a sour note..

I recently visited these services just after 10pm and was appauled at the level of service - or rather no service. Most of the place was shut, including the shop and there were lots of people milling around looking for something to eat. The food cafe was abandoned by its staff who where all sat in the middle of the complex smoking and generally socialising whilst costomers were trying to buy the few prepacked things on offer. They were served eventually & somewhat reluctantly however one unfortunate woman dared to ask for cooked food and chips - which were advertised as available - that really upset the staff party who seemed most put out by having to work especially as they had now been joined by a very grubby looking toilet cleaner. Cant think why he was grubby as the toilets certainly had not been cleaned in a good while and a s someone else on here has pointed out there was no soap to be had anywhere.I have sinced complained to the mananger who got back to me after about a month and apparenty certain staff and supervisors have 'left the business'Hopefully this place has got better but I won't be in a rush to return.

I frequently stop here. Recently while using the toilets there was no soap in any of the dispensers. I though it very unhygienic s there isn't much point in washing your hands in water.There was no staff about to inform. I rang the number for the area manager from one of the boards, turned out to only be a recruitment line. Rote to Moto, who rote back saying their manager for Donnington Park would call me. Still waiting for that call, and even rang him twice, but he never returned my calls.
The only reason I go in here now is because there is an M&S.

My friends and I came here during the Download Festival to freshen up a bit and to get some proper food during our weekend. We went to Burger King and one of my friends and I had to wait while the man got the orders of the 8 or 9 people behind us before he served our food. I thought this was unacceptable, and even though we were clearly getting impatient there was no apology offered for keeping us waiting, especially since the other person serving was getting the food for his customers straight away. The person who served us was the manager or under manager, and you'd think he'd know a little bit about customer service, he didn't.

A very nice little MSA - everything you need is easy to find, the food is reasonable, and the facilities generally good. The only problem is it's quite hard to get to, and even worse to get back onto the motorway, particularly travelling northbound. Must be convenient for those on the A42 though.

It isn't really an MSA at all, in the sense of being located on the motorway itself - it's more of a hotel/food/fuel complex that just happens to be fairly near the motorway and a few other important roads. The facilities are fine, and it's pleasant enough to use, but not if you want a quick pitstop with easy access - it really belongs on 5minutesaway.com rather than this site!

I avoid Donnington Park, I usually approach the M1 along the A42, the slip road off the A42 merges with a slip road off the M1, both bringing a lot of traffic heading to East Midlands Airport, and also traffic heading off the M1 onto the A50 Westbound. This means and almost pertual queue to the island by the services !
