I learnt very quickly, my first visit was in the middle of the night in the rain, while exhausted hence the break.. a snack and a 3 hour nap so I was safe to drive and I get a fine! Completely unethical to charge and insufficient signs on the entrance (I have checked since)

It's not difficult to learn that at every MSA there is a maximum of 2 hours free parking.
Avoid! If you intend to have a nap for safety at night don't! Â£100 fine for a three hour nap in an empty car park at night... welcome break my arse

Can any regular user of M3 Fleet Services or an employee there since Aug 2010 can tell me whether or not the east bound north service area has had some landscape clearance work undertaken on the car pack which involved the removal of a large Sequoia or Redwood tree near the entrance as you travel in that direction? I have a couple of photos of me and my late wife back in Aug 2010 each with our arms "hugging" this very large tree (my daughters name is Sequoia) which would have been the very first large tree you would see on your right just by the slip road as you came in which I was sure was taken at this service station but looking at Google maps this huge tree now seems to have "disappeared" and there appears to be an recently extended car park area where I assume the photo was taken. Things change though and because this huge Redwood tree is no longer there I do have a small doubt that my memory is indeed accurate. I merged two photos into one to make it look as if we were hugging the tree in the one shot as we quite fortuitously hugged opposite sides of the tree. As a trucker paying Â£27!!!!! Per night to park, the least that I expect is to have the a shower that has hot water! After visiting tonight I have discovered that you can not even provide that. It was not even barely warm...... It was freezing cold water! I would rather park further away from where I need to be, than to use this services again.

NEVER again will I spend my hard earned cash here. They are in league with, and an integral part of the SCAM that is Parking Eye. These con-men are no more than thieves and deserve to be hounded out of business as soon as possible. Having driven several hundred miles and intending to reach my Hampshire destination, I was simply too shattered to drive another mile. We pulled in to a poorly lit and near deserted Fleet car park at about 2.00 am and headed for the services where I spent over Â£30 on food and drink. Returning to the car, and still shattered, we slept for about 2 hours before continuing the journey feeling awake and alert. We then received a demand for Â£100 for overstaying the free stay period. I ignored the demand. I now have a potential County Judgement against me unless I now pay Â£175.00 with costs. I will now write to the Hampshire Constabulary asking for their thoughts on the matter. The police campaign about don't drive if tired seems a bit of a sick joke when you have greedy little slimeballs like PARKING EYE who think fleecing the motorist is more important than saving lives.As for Fleet Services; shame on you for getting into bed with low lifes like PARKING EYE. My days of spending money with you are over, and the 20 other families I know who have been told the story are of the same mind. You get all that you deserve.

As a taxi driver who uses motorway services as part of a job, I thoroughly and strongly discourage everyone to use the Fleet Services. I was charged an extortionate fee when I overslept the 2hr mark as I'd been going without sleep for over 20 hours and I was so tired I couldn't hear my mobile alarm! The company were not sympathetic to my hard job and demanded payment of Â£100 !!! They also made unwarranted remarks about my foreign accent, if only I had recorded that! A big NO NO!!! My foot will never step into this dubious establishment of sociopathic money-whores.

I've always liked this service station, especially eastbound, but today getting served at Subway westbound was put off by the poor hygiene practices of the lad serving. Normally, at a subway (and I have used 100s) the server changes their gloves between getting coins out of the till and serving you the salad, this lad didn't. The gloves weren't even changed for the two people in front of me. It's just poor when your food gets served by somebody with lower hygiene standards than yourself.

I only call into Fleet 3-4 times a year as a very quick pit stop between Somerset and Sussex. No complaints up to now, but I have to say that on the way back home late last night I called into the southbound side - to find a new floor has been put down - it's awful awful awful - why couldn't it just be one colour? No complaints about the service or facilities - they were fine, but who on earth decided on that floor....?!

We left Norfolk at 3.30am on Tuesday 24 February to travel to Ringwood to go to my aunt's funeral. Stopped at Fleet at about 6am. Absolutely disgusting. Found that some of the toilets were not flushed properly and then found out why - there was no water!!!!! No water to flush them or to wash our hands. No notices up about this either. Spoke to lorry driver who had paid Â£20 to use the facilities (including shower) and he told us that he hadn't been able to have his shower because of this. What was going on - don't know because it was so early couldn't find anyone who cared. Luckily I did have hand hygiene gel in my bag.

On Tuesday evening 9/12/2014, when returning from on a day trip by coach to Salisbury, we called in at the M3 Fleet Services Northbound. I alighted from the coach and unknown and unseen to me in the dark there was a raised kerb section within the tarmac which I stumbled over and fell heavily on my left knee. I was helped onto my feet by the coach driver. I grazed my knee badly and am still in terrific pain, a week later.I feel that the coach parking area needs better lighting and the raised kerb areas need to be better highlighted as a warning over the trip hazard.After being helped back onto the coach, I observed a person with a torch, negotiating the steps down from the service area to the coach park.

There appears to be a gang of East European pickpocket/thieves targeting customers here , they seem to watch people park up and pick their targets before following them into the services . Be aware when you use this service station as there appears to be no working CCTV covering the common areas , this could be the reason why these thieves are targeting this service station .

Stopped here for a break after 2 hour drive.The disabled toilets are located INSIDE the ladies and gents toilets. As most disabled people are pushed by a member of the opposite sex, this is ridiculous. So my wife in her wheelchair and I had to experience the acute embarrassment of going into the gents toilet. I should add that the disabled toilet in the Ladies is located on a series of sharp corners which are very difficult to negotiate with a wheelchair. The architect who designed this service should be forced to use this shambles in a wheelchair

Have stopped here many times, but this time the layout has been changed. Caravans no longer park with the cars - so we follow the signs, but we are never told where to go - unless that is, you also look at the markings on the road at the entrance to the truck park. This is not in your line of vision and you have to look for it as the good signs initially telling us where to go no longer say caravans.We managed to pull into a very badly organised area with vehicles all over the place.We promptly left and vowed never to return!Shame, as i had been driving solidly for 1.5 hours towing the caravan, which requires concentration.It is a disgrace!

During along drive home form Cornwall, near Lands End to Kent we stopped at this dump. My wife was drivinhg and need a rest. We purchased some refreshment and went back to our car. We must have both fallen asleep. After all what are these places for? DOT tell you to rest when triness effect you. STOP AND REST> but it seems if you do that at Fleet services you are penalise. I have now recived a demand form a private company using personal details they obtain in contraventions of the data protection act demanding Ã‚Â£100. There were no clear signs warning about these charges or they were not lit Nor was there any indication of where you should pay. Needless say we will never stop at a welcombreak service station again and no matter how much sky park try to bully they can whistle for there money.

Also got ticket from parking eye, was outraged. A SERVICE STATION!! I am assuming the management at Fleet Services do not want you staying there too long in case you spend more money or something, and what about if you need that all important sleep before continuing a long drive. Disgraceful. Are they perhaps trying to stop those naughty people who use the car park & go off to spend their money somewhere else?!?!? Will be avoiding this service station in the future.

To who it may concern, please be warned Fleet Services uses Parking Eye in their car parks which they entitled to do so, however I would like to point out this is not clearly signed nor is it clearly marked where you should pay if you need to stay over the permitted 2 hour free period. After being fined on a bank holiday with no clear signage displayed our company has advised all our drivers to avoid this service station until we are advised clear signage and payment methods are in place.

What more can be said about Fleet services, the jewel in the crown of all Great British Service Stations. It's time spent at Fleet services that I truly appreciate what it is to be alive. The selection of amenities and eateries are second to none, and a visit here is without question the highlight of any car journey or holiday. You could argue it deserves a McDonalds on the south bound side as well, but that would deny people the opportunity to traverse the M3 on 'The Grand Bridge of Fleet'. I only wish more British institutions could match the high standards set by this superb motorway destination.

The only way he can take her to the toilet is by going through the urinals to the disabled toilet at the end of the men's toilet!Do you consider this suitable? WE CERTAINLY DO NOT!!!!!!! This services area is typical of many motorway services,overpriced and poorly managed, I am a regular user of the HGV/Coach area and often find lorries using many if not all of the coach area. coaches then unload their passengers as close to the cafeteria area as possible leaving them to walk in a busy thoroughfare. Caravan facilities are non existent. The new road markings at the exit of the lorry park are an accident waiting to happen,in this country there is a general rule that one gives way to the right, in this services lorries/coaches are obliged to give way to the private cars that they caanot see on their left,horrendous.

I visited your service station last night with friends and was appalled at the staffs attitude to the fire alarm going off. No one took control in fact one member of staff covered their ears as the alarm was too loud!! We immediately left the building totally appalled at others attitude. Surely you have a fire marshall on site at all times. I think you should check the CCTV I was the only person who after an inital 20 secs to make sure was a mistake put my coat on and lead my party out (I am the one in a fur coat) with 3 children. No one made themselves known as being in charge and noone stopped members of the public entering the building. When we left the alarm was still sounding

Stopped on the way home from holidays abroad at around 9am Our family of four had cooked breakfasts, coffee and soft drinks for Ã‚Â£23. We don't normal use services and were amazed at the quality of the food, excellent and really reasonable price.The services were really clean and the staff wam and friendly and switched on. Had to comment as we were pleasantly surprised when we expected the worst.

ON the 12/09/13 at 23:17 I pulled in to your service station as I normally do on the way down to Cornwall, except on this occasion I was over tiered and fell asleep, I left your service station at 02:26 thinking nothing of the length of time that I have been their. On my return back to London I had received a fine from ParkingEye for Ã‚Â£100. I have begrudgingly just paid the fine but will never use your service station ever again, will spend my money at other location, will make sure that everyone I know never uses your service station and will make sure that your service station receives all the bad publicity it deserves.

I pulled into WB Fleet Services south at 2 a.m. because I was falling asleep and - as advised by Motorway signage - decided to take a break in almost entirely deserted car park. It seems in doing so I overslept some limit according to a sign I couldn't see in the dark since I didn't get out of my car.

I complained they just said pay up so I went to the POPL the ombudsman and complained to then and again and they told me I don't have to pay as it happened at night and the sings have no lights there not visible. So at night it don't matter just say you never see the sings. And you've dun the right thing by pulling up and having a rest you never had a car crash did. We need to stop they people they treat us like stupid asses. If they do it again it will cost them alot more the a Ã‚Â£100 when I've finished with them. Try and do that in over countries see what them people do. But not us we are to scared.

I currently live and have been living in Japan for the last 16 years. I have been a regular visitor to Fleet services as I used to stop there on my trips to and from University when I lived in the UK. On a recent trip home to the UK I pulled into Fleet Services' empty car park for a rest, at 2am. I was falling asleep at the wheel. I walked inside and bought some supplies at the only shop open, WHSmiths, and then fell asleep in my hire car. I woke 3 hours later and continued my journey home. Imagine my disgust when I found that I have been sent a parking charge (to my home in Tokyo) for 100GBP for over-staying a time limit, that I did not know existed by 53 minutes (in addition to the 50GBP charged to me by the hire company). I am highly recommending Welcome Break to abolish the use of ParkingEYE. As long as it is continually used I am motivated to never frequent a Welcome Break stop again.

I burnt my finger serving myself soup, which actually scalded and blistered my finger (on Sat 6th July 2013) The service manager, Syed went out of his way to help me and got me ice, ointment and a bag of ice to take away, I saw him a couple of hours later and he gave me more ointment for my finger. I am very impressed with his customer service skills and would like to say thank you to him again.Please pass on the message.

When travelling or around late at night, one is used to eating food barely edible, but the Burger King outlet at Fleet southbound surpassed even my most dire expectations. I ordered a Double Burger which I'm sure in the picture had salad and pickles and burger sauce and cheese. In the car and eating it on our journey, all it was, was a bread roll, almost unrecognizable as such due to its consistency...when compressed turned into a paste, and two burgers with no discernable taste whatsoever which appeared to be the most part filler and fat, also turning to a paste on eating. No salad, no cheese and no burger sauce. I would not be able to tell you whether it was meat or worm..totally mystery meat. Needless to say, it was dumped. A very pricey mistake at very nearly Ã‚Â£8.00 for the meal.
This is a franchise not run directly by BK and my advice is 'do not.... under any circumstances'

Dear sirs, I was parked on the south bound car park yesterday afternoon between 3.15pm and 5pm my car is a Audi S5 silver grey 4 door reg WJ61 DZE. When I returned to my car a white car was reversing out of the space on the drivers side, I waited for him to move off and went to my door to see that it had been badly damaged with a white scrap marks and a buckled rear door. By the time I had realise the white car had left.Is it possible to review your CCTV for that period to assist my insurance company track down the culprit.Many thanks, Raoul Perfitt.

On the 3rd of March i stopped at Fleet services. I was wearing my engagement ring when i left home and only stopped to use the ladies which meant i also washed my hands. When i got to my destination i noticed no engagement ring. I feel heart broke at my loss. Although not an expensive ring it has great sentimental value. I also think that I lost my keys at the services on Friday 25th. Ian is right, I tried the number listed online multiple times and no one answered. I don't know if this helps at all Ian, but the lost property is apparently all given to the Days Inn hotel. I don't know if this the case for the north-bound section as well, but it is the case for the south-bound side.
I think I may have left my keys at the south-bound starbucks seating area... If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

Yesterday morning I stopped at the garage attached to Fleet Services en route to London Heathrow. I bought some fuel and sundries amounting to Ã‚Â£38.84. Of this Ã‚Â£2.60 was for a Costa Coffee from the self service machine in the shop.
I would like to register that it was probably the worst coffee I have ever purchased ! The water tasted tinny and the milk was certainly on the cusp of being off ! Whether or not the machine hadn't been cleaned or suffering from a lack of use throughout the night I don't know, whatever it was did not match up to the usual experience of Costa Coffee. Disappointed to say the least

My mum and I met in Fleet services, seemed a neutral place to meet for a 12 year reunion! But, what I hadn't realised was the 2 hour limit and I hadn't seen any signs so I was completely unaware, one would have thought since I was a customer and spending my money in services that parking would be free! Anyhow, I was shocked to get the parking fine and so was my mum who is going to refuse to pay it. Im not sure whether or not to pay it. Thats quite a lot of money they'll make out of the pair of us!

Parking eye at fleet services are a disgrace and should be closed down and responsible management put in place as they are untrustworthy. My car broke down in the car park at 3am it wasn't busy at all. Its the first time anything like this has happened here. I spend Ã‚Â£400 a mouth there but mow I stay away from there. For over staying my welcome by 50 minutes they sent me a Ã‚Â£100 fine. When I asked to see the camera configuration certificate they just told me the is no complaint just pay now. But its not legal so just don't pay it. If there no copy of configuration certificate don't pay.

Stopped on our way back to London with a very grumpy three year old. Cannot praise Jennie who works at McDonald's enough. She sat down with my screeching child and distracted him while I got him settled and made him feel so special. I then bought a happy meal for myself like his and she came over to change the toy as she recognised it was a duplicate. The staff were really busy but all really cheerful and polite and made us feel really welcome. Would definitely come back

We stopped at Fleet services on our way to and from Weymouth because we are limited to where you can stop with a caravan. South bound we bought food and took it back to our caravan to eat, as we had left our dogs in the car and it was a warm day. The smell of urine in the car park where the trucks and caravans have to park is disgusting and enought to put you off eating there or even walking across the car park. There are toilets available and therfore it is against the law to urinate on the ground or on the wheel of a vehicle so those that do should face heavy fines there should be security cameras set up to catch them as it wouldn't be to difficult as their vehicle number would be easy to see. Caravaners should also not have to share their space with trucks. On the way back North Bound we just used the toilets and left as soon as possible so we didn't have to put up with the smell of urine for long

This was not a welcome break! This service station cannot be contacted and all my efforts to get in touch and speak to somebody were in vain. - I tried two numbers, for the service station and Starbucks but no one picks up the phone. I have forgotten my handbag at Starbucks on the northbound, with keys, wallet, camera etc, and am very upset. With the amount of tired people passing through the station one would naturally expect there would be a lost property service, and one that works. I am very unhappy and reported to the local police station. The website does not give an option for 2012

This place is a total disgrace and should be shut down! Late on a Saturday evening Place is VERY busy and NO HOT FOOD at all. Apart from one macdonalds with a very long que and only one person serving. Whats the point of being open??? This service station is a HUGE joke. The food is cold and very basic for such high prices, the staff are very tired and rude(non-helpful)the carpark very small and over crowded and the whole area very dirty. I mean who wants to stop at a dirty HOLE! think twice!!!!!

Needed to stop at Fleet services on the way back from Stansted last week as I was feeling pretty tired after a 2 am start. Woke up, drove home and then yesterday to my utter shock, I received a letter with a fine for Ã‚Â£90.00, for staying over the 2 hr limit. I was totally unaware that there are time limits and shall NEVER use this services again. But it also flies in the face of common sense when such a draconian approach, rather like dodgy clamping, is acceptable. This will drive people to taking greater risks and the possibility of more accidents from tiredness. What is the point of the Highways Agency putting up big warning signs stating 'take a break' when now, your likely to be ripped off if you sleep a little too long.

I called into the services as I do every time I visit London, this time I noticed on my way to the KFC that there is a stand in the centre of the concourse displaying cakes and muffins etc all open to the air not covered and at a hight where a child could walk up and touch. Now I would look upon this as a health and safety nightmare .The products on offer could easily be contaminated by accident or mulishly by the general public .... You cant imagine the germs that could be coughed and sneezed over those cakes in the course of an hour in a busy service centre.... you wouldn't get me eating any of them.....

I realised I had a puncture while at Fleet services and asked the car park attendant if he knew where I could get help. He returned a few minutes later with his manager who, despite being dressed in a shirt and tie, had left a meeting in order to help. He called a colleague to assist and, between them, changed my tyre efficiently and politely. I was so grateful!

Stopped at the services, had a good meal. My youngest son left his cuddly monkey there and have kept ringing several times day and night, no answer. Very disapointed as the service station supposedly prides itself with it's (service). It has now turned a positive feeling towards Fleet to a negative.

We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon to grab a bite to eat and feed our two young children. About 2 weeks later we got sent a bill for Ã‚Â£90 from a criminal organisation called Parking Eye who said that our car had been parked for 2 hours and 50minutes. They employ number plate recognition so the timer starts as you enter the services and clocks off when you leave the exit ramp. The advert for Welcome Break says "take time and relax" - what it should say is "if you have a family, keep a careful eye on the time and make sure you get off site before the 2 hours is up or we'll get Parking Eye to charge you Ã‚Â£90 for staying over" If you do want to stay longer they charge Ã‚Â£10 for up to 24 hours.

Paid a lot for a tank full of diesel, ate expensive pretty tasteless food and then got fined Ã‚Â£90 for unwittingly parking for just over two hours. No more of my money for Fleet Services or any Welcome Break services, whenever I can avoid them, which I can.

We used to use these services as either our first stop or last stop when using the M3 as they are an hour from home, until we discovered Winchester just a few minutes down the motorway.
There's nothing really wrong with them, other than both car parks fill up very quickly and at busy times there is nowhere to park, Southbound seems worse than Northbound. Also McDonalds is only on the Northbound side, which means if you are going Southbound you have to cross the bridge.

This is a fantastic service station. I stop here every time my route takes me that way. The food is delicious, but I do think it would be a good idea to build an overflow car park as it is very busy during peak times and it can be very hard to find a space.
Overall, a great place to take a break on a long journey!

CUSTOMER SERVICES................I rang at 0845hrs on the 29th July 2011 to enquire about the opening times for breakfast, the lady who answered did not know but said she would find out and return my call, this never materialised, I rang many times later in the day but no one answered the phone. I am travelling at 0530hrs on the 30th July and needed this information before setting off as the website is not clear. I find the lack of customer service to be unacceptable.

After eating at KFC at the Fleet services I ended up with very bad food poisoning which lasted for five days. The chicken was either not cooked or not defrosted properly or had come into contact with raw chicken. Think twice before eating there!

Ro, This guy has broke down hes not done it on purpose, supermarkets I would suggest will not get the same sort of pressured breakdowns there, think about it most people use the supermarkets near to home so can get a faster response from local garage or a tow from there mates etc. On a service area you can be miles away from home with no help and reliant on some breakdown company to turn up who by the nature of there job are obliged to clear people off the motorway first so if your in a service area you are not a priority, Fact is they should not be sending letters that are trying to intimidate and frighten people in to paying, Welcome Break should be taking customer service into account and do something about this harassment on the general public.

With reference to the guy who was charged Ã‚Â£90 ...You will find that most large car parks including suoermarket car parks have a little man who walks around with a gizmo to log in the time you arrived. Most of the car parks allow 3 hours free parking otherwise there is a hefty fine, as you found out.

Stopped with my caravan in September. Signs for caravan parking unclear but would seem to direct you into the largest spaces available then all I got was absolute rudeness from truck drivers about parking in their park. There was at least 3 other caravans parked there. So, where is the parking for caravans? by the way, I have found that in other places ignorant truck drivers are not adverse to parking in areas reserved for caravans only!

I have to stop here <northbound> overnight <hgv driver> quit a lot due to my companies insistence..I have found the staff overall to be pleasent with the odd one not so.I found this out recently during the coverage of the world cup when for some reason they could not change the channel over to watch a game due to not having a remote for the t.v ! so i was frequently told.I have found the food to be very poor in taste and quality,and the prices they charge are extortionate!..The shower cubicles have extractor fans fitted but don't work,and with summer upon us this makes it unbearable and impossible to dry yourself in these...also i'd like to point it out that you get an eight pound meal voucher not a ten pound on your overnight parking ticket,as stated on this site! and at 1.99 for a cup of tea this does not go very far!!.these comments are from a regular user to these services who hopefully won't be for much longer.

we visited fleet services yesterday (28th June) and my son (3) left his teddy bear behind. Probably at Starbucks. It's light grey, about 20 cm high, plays music when you pull the white moon on its tummy, it's without a label. It's a character from noukies (nouky). If you happen to have picked it up, please get in touch... We're back in Belgium but we'll pay for the parcel + an extra as a reward. He has had it since he was born and it's very valuable to his eyes. Thank you very much,

The services are OK, but I found the individual serving for 'Eat In' was downright rude: When I asked where the milk was she pointed in the general direction and said "there". When I gave her the wrong money she stated "I said Ã‚Â£1.99". When I said I hadn't heard her she said "Look - it's on the screen". Does 'Eat In' have a customer service course, as this person seems overdue for training?

stopped there over night as out of driving hours will never eat there again got the all new steak pie and i could not cut it i think i could of parked my truck on iti would advise taking your own food or better still avoiding it and going to the next services along the m3

Very poor standards especially currently- building work means the toilets are out in an annex behind the main service area. They are pretty disgusting and the cubicles are so small even a child would struggle to avoid brushing their trousers against the mostly disgusting basins. Not impressed.

We stopped there for a bite to eat, and although there is some building works going on, it did not hinder the access at all. besides, a waitrose is being installed, so its worthwhile!I found the food appetising and it was a large portion. The eating area was clean, and there was someone always cleaning and tidying up. Did not use any other facilities though, but what i did see was pleasant enough.

21st December 2009. 12noon. Southbound M3. First impression, road works outside the main entrance, make it look dirty and uninviting. To enter, you have to go around the barrier, on a freezing cold, wet day. Squeezing by in single file.Gents toilets out of order so we all shared the ladies. That was quite well organised, ladies one side, gents the other. Not sure that 'British' ladies accept this sort of thing though!.Didn't stop for food as it didn't look very appetising.Conclusion: Unless you want lots of choice, gaming machines, etc etc. Hang on a bit and use the next one at Winchester. Smaller, cleaner and better run.

having spent hours on both the M25 & M3 mostly in 1st gear, I badly needed a break. Fleet services was heaving with people & although I am a blue badge holder, I was turned away from the main car park & had to park in the lorry/coach park & walk back along a narrow path with many people pushing past. I use walking sticks to aid my mobility. I couldn't believe it when I made it to the entrance to find there were no automatic doors. Surely that contravenes the Equality Act? It was with great difficulty that I held the walking sticks, kept my balance & opened the doors to go in. I certainly did not feel welcome. Fleet services - sort it out!

Although the ladies toilets are generally clean, they are in need of updating and upgrading.The floor and tiles are old and grubby, the flower tub decorations at the wash basin height sadly have a fine film of mould growing.Staff have obviously done their best with the facilities but major revamp due soon please.

I used the phone at the M3 Fleet Services (Southbound) on the 10/01/09. Unfortunately neither of the payphones would take coins so I little alternative but to use my credit card. As a result I was horrified to find that for a phone lasting a couple of minutes it cost me Ã‚Â£5 to register my card and 99p for the phone call. I looked at the terms and conditions and in no way did it state that credit cards would incur a Ã‚Â£5.00 charge.I wrote down the the company that maintain/operate the phones but I am having difficulties in contacting them.If you could be of any help it would be appreciated.

I visited this service area yesterday (15 September 2008)for the first ime in several years, and was shocked by how much it had changed for the worse.During the 1990s I used to travel regularly from London to Portsmouth at weekens, and often had breakfast at Fleet services, where one could obtain fruit, serial, muesli, and fresh filter coffee. I was looking forward to visiting it again, but found that all had changed, and that only fried food was available, retailed by KFC and the burger chains, under the lugubrious red and black Welcomebreak logos. A great disappointment.

Southbound. The only reason for stopping here is the nice wooded area which my two doggies love to wee in. I think it's the smell of urine in the car park that jogs their tiny little brain cell. If you pull in and there isn't an HGV, White van, Recovery vehicle in the designated caravan parking area then it must be about 3.00am.

We stopped here Easter 2008. Prior to this in sept 2005. Both times towing our caravan and parked in with the HGVs. Nothing had really changed, quality wise, not even the stench of stale urine in the caravan / HGV parking area. Avoid this place like the plaque, if at all possible.

Whenever I travel on the M3 my life is less than complete if I cannot crush into the retail heaven of Fleet Services. I shake with anticipation at the idea of spending 2 hours wages on a coffee. The selection of plastic statues available in the shop is second to none. My joy knows no limits when I get to queue at McDonalds (they run out of staff, burgers and fries!) with the mental cases from the bus tours

The wooded location makes this one of the more pleasant MSAs I've used, and there is a good outdoor seating/picnic area which means that when the weather is fine, it doesn't get too crowded. I suspect it could be a bit cramped on a wet day in summer, though, as it's on a holiday route. A useful tip: cars can use the lorry parking area (it's actually signed as overflow car parking), which can be more convenient than the main car park when it's getting busy - particularly at weekends and bank holidays when truck traffic is light but there are a lot of holidaymakers en route to/from the south coast.
