The disabled toilets were disgusting! I have to use these it although it has a cleaning in progress sign up and smelled like cleaning products, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a week! There was both used and unused toilet paper both on the floor and in the sink! The previous person has not flushed and everything just looked sorry! Disgrace for a service station!

I was at this service station today , HAD to use the toilet ,i dont normally use public toilets.....I was amazed as I walked into the Ladies toilet... 1st thing I noticed was the lovely smell, the lovely flowers on the the wall... was very impressed at how very very clean and how pretty it was for a service station ... 10/10 in my opinion well done guys

As a service engineer throughout Scotland, travelling 30,000 miles per year, Harthill Ladies toilets are ALWAYS the dirtiest I come across. This morning 2 of the toilets were severely overflowing with waste.

I and my daughter ate at the wild bean cafe today. it was the worst meal we've experienced in many years of travel. My sandwich was stale and my daughter's heated tuna panini inedible.I foolishly bought her a replacement sausage roll which was like concrete and possibly a food safety hazard having presumably been kept hot for a long time . The chocolate doughnut I had bought her to follow was , in both of our assessments , disgustingly sweet and poor in texture - nowhere near the US standard for Dunkin doughnuts or Crispy Creme.I don't understand why we cannot match the quality offered in other countries for motorway food - especially France and N America .

WENT WITH MY SISTER ON MY WAY BACK FROM GLASGOW AND THE TOLETS WERE CLEAN AND TIDY I GOT A GOOD MEAL DEAL IN THESE SERVCES AND THE STAFF ARE QUITE POLITE AND HELPFUL I WOULD GO BACK TO THESE SERVCES ANYTIME I AM ALONG THE M8.

Once outside of Glasgow or Edinburgh, the M8 is a disgrace as regards services. The eating choice - as far as I've been able to tell (and that's what counts with tourists) - is between a Little Chef at Dreghorn and the BP cafe at Harthill. The Little Chef is all swank and little service - and expensive to boot for what, for all its pretensiousness, is just a roadside cafe. If it has one thing in its favour, it's that its only competitor - the BP services at Harthill - is even worse. The latter is scruffy, the choice of food shockingly poor and the staff indolent. There's a small supermarket section - actually between the counter and the tables - hard luck if you're not too steady on your feet. The loos are scruffy, and I tried to touch nothing in there - preferring a bottle of hand-cleanser in the car to any of the dubious washing facilities.
I love Scotland - IMHO it's one of the most beautiful countries in the world - once you get north of the M8. South of that, unfortunately, it's a disgrace.

Is nobody going to give truckers motorists who are stuck a drink. Water would be good. Soup is being given out on other roads but of course they're not making a profit. Pregnant woman with a child would like something to eaT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I regularly have to use the westbound service station, not through want, but by necessity. The toilets are filthy, and tonight was no different . 1 blocked toilet, 2nd had toilet paper, newspaper and floor was wet. 3rd had no toilet paper. I approached a staff member, who said they had been checked recently. She then proceeded to continue stacking shelves. I took pics of the cubicles tonight and will be forwarding them to the appropriate people. The place is a disgrace.

As an Hgv driver I regularly have to stop at these services for fuel. What really does my nut right in is having to hand ur card in before you fuel. IE having to Que twice, while I understand you reasons for doing so is to prevent drive offs. What normally takes 5-10 mins max took me 35 mins today, and I got straight onto a pump. I wiz spittin blood so a was. Why cant you fix the hatch by the window so we can hand our card in, like Hamilton services rather than having to Que twice. If you asked car drivers to come in and flash their cash or a credit card before drawing fuel im pretty sure most motorist would avoid going their. so why discriminate against lorry driver. And It canny be that hard to track the drive off down most have the company logo splashed all over the sides. SORT THE HATCH OOT!

I was propositioned in gents toilets here by a very seedy looking old man asking me "you after some fun mate?". Beware guys I think this place is a gay cruising area.
Peter Watson, Mon 1 Feb 2010
Although the selection of hot food is extremely limited, there is a nice area with sofas for sitting in and relaxing. The M&S Food shop on the westbound side is nice for picking up something tasty for when you get home. On the whole not a bad, but not a great service area.

to say this place is a dump is an insult to many of the maintained landfill sites in the country. stopped purely for a leak and all i can say the facilities are marginally better than a bush. parking for caravans is a joke, carpark has more craters than the surface of the moon and as it was raining heavily they were flooded. please give this place a makeover until then my advice is to avoid

The services is an absolute joke for a motorway services.I am a lorry driver and have stayed at virtualy every services in England,Scotland and Wales and this is the worst by far. There are no showers no proper restaurant its basically just a petrol station with a wild bean cafe which is ok if you fancy a sandwich,or pasty for your tea.I had the misfortune to stay there once i will never again.Seriously the M8 or M9 need a proper services for lorry drivers and anyone else somewhere where they can get a proper meal.Moto,Roadchef Welcome Break please do us a favour and open a proper services. As for that bridge it reminded me of the movie Trainspotting.

Both my wife and myself stopped east bound at 4.30pm on the 8th Dec 2007. What can one say except the place was a disgrace to the public. Gents toilets a mess with over flowing buckets. Wet floor. Ladies Disabled Toilet. No toilet roll holder no towels no soap wet floors bucket over flowing. Shop Area only one member of staff serving bihind the counter for fuel and cafe area. And trying to put stock on to the shelfs. Rubbish on tables and floor. Sorry to say for an upgraded service area this is worse than the old service area. Please please do something to improve service before the Gathering of the clans 2009 in Edinburgh and the 2014 Games in Glasgow.

The Signs are poor, we ended up taking the wrong turning and had park in the coach park. Then we walked through the site to get to the shop, and the entire area seemed to be a neglected rubbish tip. The BP Connect Wild Bean Cafe was understaffed and the staff were also unfriendly . No one had time to come at tidy food rubbish from the tables, the toilets were untidy and in a poor state of maintenance. The whole place is a disgrace.
Craig and Caroline Hull, Tue 30 Oct 2007
A disgusting experience.Signage poorToilet facilities filthyBuildings dilapidated and intimidating.Unable to leave vehicle unattended due to non British families living in cars in lower car park. What a disgrace for a service station on a main Scottish tourist route.
ken and pam ferguson, Mon 27 Aug 2007
I regularly travel into this Service Station from Glasgow. I agree with the comments re disgusting state of the bridge, but would also add it is the most intimidating place to have to cross. Also, on Sunday when I arrived I found the bus stance surrounded with overgrown grass/weeds, litter and water almost to my ankles, (not an exaggeration) this throughout the walk from the bus stance right to the steps of the bridge. At the Harthill side I again had to plough through water to get to the carpark area. Certainly the rain was very heavy but I have experienced this on more than one occasion.

I like the wild bean cafe at harthill services M8
Fraser Main, Fri 15 Dec 2006
The Scottish Excutive must experience what I would say is the worst bridge in Europe. The state of this bridge is worth an oscar from Watchdog, it has no lighting, it smells, rubbish everywhere, smashed windows, you name it has a bitter taste
Terry, Wed 25 Oct 2006
Harthill services are the worst services I have ever been to. The bridge smelled disguisting it was obvious people had urinated on the floor. Rubbish and dirt was lying in the corners and graffiti was terrible. It seems as though the bridge has been left to rot.

The telephone number for these services is 01501 750 830. I needed this when I left my debit card there!

mmmmm tatsy scran
Neil, Tue 23 May 2006
no longer called 'Harthill' but its now called 'Heart of Scotland' services.
Gavin Spence, Sun 4 Dec 2005
This site is no longer operated by Roadchef - its now a wild bean cafe run by BP. The site has been redeveloped and the crappy old buildings that were there have been binned. The site now has full services availiable at both sides of the motorway.
