How you can help
This site is compiled from publicly available information and user comments. We are well aware that, at least at this early stage of the site's life, a lot of potentially useful information is missing. You can send us the information we need using the update page.
In particular, we would love to have your help in the following areas:
- Completing the "facilities" section of each entry. Most of this can be obtained from
the various operator websites, but it's a time-consuming process. If everyone who visits this site finds just one
incomplete entry, looks it up on the operator's website and copies the details, then it's a lot less effort
all round.
- Fixing the incorrect links to maps. The map and aerial photo links rely on us having the correct geographic information
for each site - specifically, the latitude and longitude (in decimal format), and the grid reference
(6-digit x and y coordinates). If it's slightly inaccurate, then the
links will be a bit offset from the actual site, and you may not see what you're expecting!
There are three ways to help us get the right geographic data for each site:
- If you're actually at a site, and you've got GPS, then make a note of the reading and let us know.
- If you've got an OS map covering a motorway service station (at 1:50,000 or better) and you know how to read it, then you can work out the grid reference from that.
- If you'd rather play around on a computer, then start with the incorrect maps and scroll around a bit until you get centred on the true location (when zoomed right in), and then make a note of the information on the page and let us know that.
- Missing service areas! If there are any out there that aren't listed, then let us know.
- Your comments. Let us know what you think about service areas that you've visited, by using the
comment page
- Photos of motorway service areas. If you've got a photo of a motorway service area,
then you can upload it here.
