What an awful, souless place this is. Signs everywhere about being fined if stopping longer than 2 hours. £1.99 to get any money from the cash machine and petrol 10p a litre dearer than anywhere Ive made a recent purchase.
Inside resembles a cold war East European work camp that made me feel as welcome as a refugee.
I'm sure these places can be run better - I spent nothing and left as quick as possible.

Bill Nelson, 29 April 2012

We stopped at the south bound services primarily so that my wife, who has MS, could use the disabled toilet - there were long delays ahead, so it was essential for her in case we were stuck for a long time.

The disabled toilet is the only one on the ground floor - the other toilets are upstairs but the lifts aren't working so any customers with walking difficulties were also obliged to use the facility.

The toilet is dirty and poorly set out. The hand-towel dispenser is difficult to reach from a wheelchair, the tap spurts out everywhere but the most damning criticism is that the horizontal grab bar - essential for a wheelchair user - is missing. This meant that in order for my wife to be able to use the toilet, I had to assist her in transferring from her wheelchair to the toilet seat and, after using the toilet, to return her to her wheelchair.

This almost doubled the amount of time she took, so a queue had built up by the time she'd finished.

This is so easy to put right that we can only assume that the site management can't be bothered - it shows a complete lack of concern or care for disadvantaged customers. We won't be visiting again.

Beware, you can be fined if you stay longer than 2 hrs and although it is run by a private company they get your details from DVLA and who knows who they pass your info to? I can see how this is legal as I have not given DVLA permission to pass
my personal info to a 3r party.

What happened to the data protection at?

2nd this place is void of all comfort, the food is really bad and there is more atmosphere on the moon.

Andrew Davidson, 5 April 2012

We visited Hilton Park Service South Side yesterday and had a very bad visit.
We found no toilets available unless we crossed over to the North side.
We Three adults 2 Over 75 ( 1 Disabled)1 over 50, went for coffee to COSTA, we where served COLD coffee and UN MELTED cheese and bacon melts.
On tasting our food and drink we returned them to costa and we where served (after a long time) Hot coffee and new melts ( not melted ) the lady returned our money back to my card because of the bad service we recieved.
My daughter had gone to M & S over the bridge as she requires Gluton Free Food and she said me and mum could not walk up all the steps so we looked for a lift and found they where out of action ( and for a long time by the notice's on the doors. We then found the disabled toilet and went to find a key from Costa the lady came and let me in I found the oldest toilet in the land I was amazed when I flushed the cisten lid lifted, I expected it to fall off the wall.
On washing my hands I found no towels or hand dryer. my wife followed after we found some tissues,
Another lady on cruches followed on after us. we then looked around to tell some person in charge to explain to, and I spoke to a lady in W.H. Smith she said she would contact the duty manager by phone, we waited for over 15 mins and no one turned up so we went on our way.
We where not happy with the way you are running this service station as it connot be right to call this a SERVICE STATION if you do not have serices.
While we at the the station we seen many people walk in here and look around and walk out again.
After our expiernce we only wished we had not stayed and drove away to another station that is going to give us the correct services we expect to have on a modern motorway.
Other service stations we went to have put in temporary services while they are rebuilding new parts and all services are availably.

You cannot expect to treat the public in this matter.

Your company can not hope to get away with these bad servies we have found

this is not a complaint ,only a desperate plee to any one with information on the loss of a baby shawl left in the toilet my 4yr old grandaughter is heart broken because that was her sussy that she went to sleep with , they were travelling north on the thursday afternoon if any one as found it I would be so gratefull with any information yours sincerely mrs t bryant

mrs theresa bryant, 25 March 2012

Recently i have stopped overnight at these services as i am a trucker. I will NEVER being do so again, even if i'm about to run out of fuel.
Toilets weren't clean, shower was full of water on the floor, the meal voucher i could only use at the restaurant and when i got my meal, the fish was over cooked, 2" on either side was batter, tablespoon of beans and garlic bread burnt and as thin as a biscuit, in fact i've seen thicker digestive biscuits.
Tha parking area stinks of urine. What more can you ask for from the services.

Will definately not use at all and do not recommend to others.

I pulled onto Hilton Park Motorway Services at 23.00 on the 31/10/2011. The reason for my stop there was due to failure of my alternator belt caused me to loose my lights, which made it dangerous for me to proceed. I firstly pulled onto the petrol station, whereby I used the services of hilton park & puchcased something from there. I also asked at this point if there was any mechanical services available on site as I was having difficulties with my vehicle. They advised there was not any available & passed me a business card for a local garage.
With me having to phone for assistance I decided to call the AA to assist. I moved my car to the middle of the main carpark for the AA to find the car easily & waited for assistance. The recovery was a while & whilst waiting I used the main resturant for a light snack & refreshments.
The staff were plesant & helpful during my stay & after the AA repaired my vehicle I was on my way at 02.05.
I would of classed the visit as a reasonable place to stop until on the 11/11/11 I received a parking fine for £80 because my vehicle had been there 3.05 minutes. The fine was sent through by a third party company Moto employ to manager their car parks which is called CP Plus.
Having contacted Moto Hilton Park Directly to complain about this, the response you get is well there are signs everywhere. CLEARLY NOT AS I DIDNT SEE ANY. Thanks alot Moto, you will not be receiving my custonm again!!!

Simon, 11 November 2011

Called at the northbound site on my way back north.

Haven't stopped at this MSA for a while but my last visit had been favourable. I have to say that that standards have been maintained, toilets & communal areas were clean and the parking bays largely litter free. Food was good and friendly staff. I would say the site is ready for an upgrade but despite that an effort has been made and is being maintained. Will certainly call here again.

Gary Farrimond, 9 September 2011

Pulled in yesterday whilst stuck in very heavy traffic heading up North, good to see lots of choice and variety, kept the whole family happy!

David Harding, 27 August 2011

I recently visited here and stopped in at the Burger King on the north bound side, and after being stuck on the motorway for 6hours plus, it was nice to be greeted by welcoming staff. I was personaly served by the manager, which is quite rare in most places I've visited, he made me and my family feel like he couldn't do enough for us. Whilst we placed our meals, we also ordered ice creams to which he said just let me know when you are ready for the ice creams and I will bring them over to you, I have to say I was shocked to receive such personal service from a fast food restaurant! Would seriously recomend!

Razzi Botelli, 26 August 2011

I stopped here earlier this week and was pleasently surprised. Its an old service station and could do with a referb but the staff were friendly and helpful. The highlight of my visit was finding out there is a Ladbrokes betting shop on the North bound side. The staff in here were amazing. I was offered a cuppa straight away and they seemed genuinely happy to talk to me and make conversation. I have the occasional bet but wouldn't say I know exactly what i'm doing but the manager was extremely helpful and explained everything to me and made me feel relaxed. Had a great time and a few laughs... well done Ladbrokes!

John Brabham, 5 August 2011

Called on the way to be in the Top Gear audience, we travelled all the way from Bolton. As it was going to be a long day we stopped at Hilton Park for a breakfast. I have to say it was the worst and most expensive we've ever had, dry sausages, cheap salty bacon and a very greasy egg. We'll call at the next one if we are travelling on the M6 again.

Nicky, 2 August 2011

I'm a long distance night driver, I have stopped here on many occasions southbound as I have no other Choice because of my fuel card. The staff in the garage in the early hours are rude and unhelpful I've never seen a smile, and today was the last straw, it took me over 25 mins to fill up and get underway again, it took 5 mins for them to start the pump than 10 mins to pay, as they walked past me doing this and that. I'll risk running out of fuel rather than deal with these people again.

Matt, 29 July 2011

Stopped off on the way back from the IOW festival, it was very busy yet they still gave good service when I went for a coffee. Fairly impressed considering the level of trade. Some places just lose it when it is busy.

anonymous coward, 13 June 2011

Although the welcome, by a large lady was welcome, I do not appreciate paying nearly 1.50 per litre when my local garage is at 1.32.

My question to you is how do you justify such a difference?

I will be taking this futher unless I recieve a satisfactory response from your team.

Steve, 30 May 2011

I don't think I have been to a service station as dirty as this one. Northbound yesterdaywe found the tables dirty and cluttered with used plates and cups, the floor dirty and worst the toilets disgusting. Most wash basins and driers had notices "Out of Order". And no-one to complain to.

Will not be using this service area again!

KJ, 26 April 2011

I love this place, I have been here a few times and always manage to bump into famous people. Last time I was on the North side I met Orlando Bloom and then today I stopped in on South on my way to a meeting and met DIVERSITY!!!!

It's worth stopping just to see who you meet!

Jo, 21 December 2010

This is the first time I have used this site in over a year.

It was very quiet and the staff on duty were engaged in deep cleaning. Seems some refurbishment, mostly decorative, has been carried. The toilets were very clean and place looked overall quite good, the tea & food I had was good too.

I had previously stated I wouldn't use this MSA again, but needs must on long night drives. It would appear that some regard is being given to comments made on sites like this and or direct feedback.

This was by far the most positive experience I have had of this MSA for some time.

Gary Farrimond, 12 December 2010

I am writing this on behalf of my mother Mrs Holt.

After stopping at the Hilton services northbound and finding the place very clean I decided to stop again going southbound...the experience was quite different, the disabled toilet was very dirty as was the rest of the facilities. We spoke to a member of the staff and they agreed, but also her answer was they take more money on the other side so its looked after better.
This is really not good enough, all toilets and other facilities should be kept to a high standard of cleanliness at ALL times and perhaps then more people would want use them.
Your member of staff also said they get alot of complaints and asked us to write, then hopefully something will be done.

Mrs Sharon Bax, 22 November 2010

I stopped on 9th October on Southbound and found my experience very different to all the people who only seem to complain because they have had a parking fine. I too broke down but the Duty Manager was more than helpful and added my vehicle as a visitor on the system to avoid a fine. I then purchased a coffee from the superb south costa who, according to their last audit, uphold the highest Costa standards. It was well advertised on the till, but why not. The kids visited the BK and seemed happy enough. The prices have always been a little higher than the high street but surely everyone knows this and has the choice about stopping. I'll stop here again. Thanks

Bill Karnegan, 14 October 2010

Visited EDC on Hilton Park South today. I wish to express my appreciation for the great service I received from Doreen Dando (name on reciept) and her colleague, who's name I didn't catch, but was a petite older lady.

I only had a breakfast bap and coffee but it was lovely to be so looked after. The two ladies where very polite and efficient but it was the warmth behind it that made it such a pleasure. They really seemed to care.

Of the two options for my journey this will make me choose Hilton Park Services in the future

Jos, 14 October 2010

I know that Moto have an appeals process for anyone who feels they shouldn't have received a parking notice. If you or someone you know has been a customer, had breakdown or engine problems or fallen asleep and a parking notice has been issued, log onto the moto web site and get in touch with them, they'll be really keen to try and help. They also have a duty manager available who can deal with any customer concerns or queries regarding service and/or facilities before you leave site

Heather, 11 October 2010

The food from EDC looked it had been there since last august it was the dried out and crusty. They also didn't have 2 out if the 6 hot options. Thank god for M&S and costa they still have a high standard of food and drinks. In general a very run down services

Anon, 29 August 2010

A vile, dirty, non english speaking excuse for service. I was feeling unwell and tired so stopped as the government signs tell us to.... A FINE... for sleeping in my car (a lady driving alone) where was i meant to stop a small quiet country lane???? I wrote to the P.M and Highways and numerous other people including watchdog..... they decided not to persue my fine, well i was looking forward to meeting these greedy idiots in court. DO NOT PAY THEM.

mrs west, 13 August 2010

An absolute disgrace. Do NOT bother. toilets are disgusting. Food is diabolical. I watched a memebr of staff picking his nose for 5 mins, then proceed to serve food without prongs etc. The food is absolutely overpriced vile.

I received a ticket from these vermin for allegedly parking my car longer than the allowed time. They had photogrpahic evidence. FOR ANYONE ELSE who has similiar. The onus is on the prosecution to prove that the car they are photographing IS your car. With so many vehicles being cloned, it is only possible to identify the correct car with more evidence than they seem to be presenting. Simply deny the vehicle is yours. Photographic evidence of your vehicle is not sufficient. They rely on YOU admitting it is yours.

Interested in their Definition of a Veggie
breakfast, which is basically a fatty
breakfast minus the meat. No Veggie sausgage, mushroom or tomato. Just fried bread and beans with 2 fried eggs and one very leathery hash brown Not very imaginative....

Karen Kingswell, 23 May 2010

plz that you are the first to provide a praying facility my self and so many others are plz hoefully you may consider facility for north bound thankyou very very much

lukeman yusuf, 29 April 2010

called at Burger King at lunchtime on Good Friday 2010. Food was the worst BK we have ever ever ever had. Services is filthy and ramshackle. Never again.

neil arden, 7 April 2010

I stopped at Hilton Park Northbound on 22nd March 2010 due to a traffic jam causing me to run out of driving hours. I drive a low loader and when not in the truck I am normally loading up and chaining down site machinery. A dirty job. I reached Hilton Park, bagged myself a space where I was unlikely to get boxed in by one of our Eastern European counterparts, who don't seem to have grasped the concept of bay parking, and settled down for the night. After paying my £20 I went in search of a shower but couldn't find one in the ladies toilet block, I asked the male non-English speaking attendant but got no luck. I decided to get my tea and persue the matter later, tea was edible; pie and chips, the lady on the counter made me some fresh gravy because the stuff on the serving counter looked 'past it' - I enquired again about ladies showers but she said she hadn't worked there long but it seemed 'a bit sexist if there aren't any', she did however point out the supervisor (who swanned about clutching a takeaway coffee for the whole time I was eating). After my tea I went in search of her - I found her having a coffee - to ask her about a shower to be told there are no ladies showers and that there was nothing she could do. I was forced to have a wash as best I could in those tiny sinks with the daft taps and go to bed dirty. I have a dirty, physical job and going to bed without a shower isn't very pleasant. I got up the next morning, drove to Stafford Services and had a hot shower in a nice clean ladies shower room. I have contacted Moto with regard to this issue and got an automated reply telling me they have forwarded my suggestion to the facilities team for them to consider when they next re-furb. Deep joy(!)

Michelle Cubbin, 24 March 2010

I had the misfortune of having to stop over night on the north bound side due to driving hours. I am an HGV driver. I paid my £20. I then went for a shower. At this point I would like to say that I stopped here some four weeks previous and the showers were not working. Guess what just the same. I then spoke to your duty manager, Di Huntbatch about the problem, She advised me not to pay but take it up with the manager Mr Paul Ruddy, but he never answers his phone. I then went for a meal, now about 8pm. Guess what no veg at all and very limited choise which looked dried out. Up to you now, what are you going to do? I would like a responce soon.

david bellwood, 4 March 2010

The buildings at this service station are a disgrace and should be demolished.

anonymous coward, 2 January 2010

Stopped here 16/10/09 at about 1am, its been a while since I have used this MSA and will not do so ever again. I have made a written complaint to the local Enivironmental Health as it was appalling the state the services were in. There were little if any facilities on the Northbound side and crossed to the Southbound to find the facilities availible were none exisitant.

The area looks ready to be demolished the facilities though closed were is dire need of a clean but when using the Gents to find a dead Rat in the urinal was the last straw, there was no one to complain to.

I appreciate there is a problem for MSA operators with vermin in the environs of all MSA owing to problems of carelessly discarded litter, however, I would have thought this was a priority. Some of litter bins on the site needed to be emptied and attention paid to clear litter from verges & parking bays.

Gary Farrimond, 17 October 2009

Hello, since when was charging overtired drivers that pull onto motorway services car parking areas made legal?
My freind parked at the Hilton services
early morning to have a nap and refresh midway on a long journey - as is advised to ensure the safety of himself and other road users.

He now has to pay 100 pounds!?
A ctv camera logged the car and charged 50 pounds for non payment of a parking fee?
This was then doubled as the charge was not settled within 7 days!

The hire company that the car belongs to have now sent my freind a bill that they have paid for 100 pounds stating that he must now repay the monies back to them?

Do you think that people will bother to pull in when tired if they need to pay!?

Isn't it a legal requirement for motorway services to provide free parking facilities?

These places are often used for business associates to meet up and go ahead to meetings in one car? Would they bother to relieve motorway congestion if it was going to cost?

regards, E.Taylor

Elaine Taylor, 14 August 2009

Stopped on the North bound services as our car was seriously overheating. Called the AA who took their usual snail pace to get their and now have received a £50 fine FOR BEING BROKEN DOWN. My immediate thoughts on my car nearly dying was not 'Oh, we better check the parking times'. I thought this was a 'service' to motorists not a money making scheme. Next time the car packs in I would rather brave the dangers of the hard shoulder!! Oh and I spent £12 in the bloody services, much more than the £8 day-light robbery they charge for over 2 hours!

Liz Hutchinson, 27 July 2009

These are surely services that time forgot! This is the worst place I have ever stopped - do not stop here - keep driving!

At about 9pm we went to the restaurant (South) and waited at the hot counter. Only when a few other people also started to wait did a member of staff come over, only to tell us there was no hot food available and to cross the bridge to North.
Went to north and ordered a curry, told only hot food left was what I could see i.e. 2 jacket potatoes, 1 sausage and a rather tired looking cottage pie that must have been there some time. No thanks
Went to Burger King, waited for family in front who ordered childs meal, gave all options, paid and were then told there were no toys left, and was that ok? - Poor child and family.
I ordered, asked for comments card and was told the services didn't do them - think they should!
Food was disgusting, cold and pure grease. Don't get me wrong I know this was Burger Kind but still! Meanwhile boyfriend bought a salad at Marks and Spencers, very nice but pricey and to be honest we really wanted a hot meal as we didn't expect our journey to end until midnight, started out at 5pm.
While sat eating we watched a member of staff clean the floor with one of those machines, but the spining cleaner wasn't even touching the floor.
Toilets - 50% out of order, signage directed us to the wrong place, and in the ladies it looked like there had been a leak and the ceiling was about to colapse in.

Never, never be tempted to stop here again even if I am busting for a wee!

Claire, 29 November 2008

Stopped here once at the southbound services, at 07,15 on a midweek morning, and the whole place was closed! Never seen that before at any services, try and avoid stopping here normally as it is a depressing place but it is well situated for the first loo stop of my run to London so sometimes no choice!

Phil Cray, 4 November 2008

Southbound services. Lift out of order, relax chairs out of order, tea machine out of order - ghastly musak - decor extremely substandard - the whole place as an air of dereliction. Once visited the northbund facility and vowed never to visit again - unfortunately my wife who is an disabled need to stop and Hilton Park was the nearest facility - will never ever visit again.

dave fishpool, 8 September 2008

We carry abnormal loads,We stopped at your service area on wednesday night for a statutory break.3 trucks running at 12ft wide and 78ft long.
No Ab-load bay,Irish and european trucks parked up wherever they wished(in hatched areas, around the fuel station,on the exit sliproad). We managed to squeeze ourselves into four spaces, all lined up together, leaving us space to exit. All three of us where given a parking ticket for improper parking(Improper use of parking bays).
None of the irish or foreign trucks where ticketed. When we parked up,we asked the parking attendant if we where ok where we where,he said he saw no problems as we were only stopping for a 45min' break. Then when we where out of sight he gave us a ticket.Of course, when we returned he was nowhere to be found. My impression of Hilton Park Services,My thoughts can't be written as they will offend.Needless to say,We won't be returning. What a load of crap.

Mr.Ian Sharpe, 24 November 2007

Stopped here traveling back home from Bristol

Despite the buildings starting to look a little run down the facilities were quite good, the gents toilets were clean

The standand of food was reasonable given it was early morning and the restaurant clean & staff were pleasent

Gary Farrimond, 9 September 2007

This was probably the most disgusting service station I have ever visited. The northbound food area (cafe) was absolutely filthy. The children could not go on the floor of the play area as it was so covered in filth and food.

The staff were very nice though, shame they don't e,ploy any cleaners.

John Todd, 2 January 2007

Excellent overall, with good clean lavatories. However, cakes should not be left out in the open air. Food was very good, though.
