Since I lost my job from site services in march I have come across some bad comments on line about the state off the overall site at hopwood the toilets are really bad and rats have been seen in kfc its an inviromentel disaster at this place it needs health and safety to investigate this site and sack the people responsible

Called in on 26/8/14 at about 1400 hrs and was disappointed to find that both Gents' and Ladies' loos smelled strongly of urine. This would have put us off eating - even if we were minded to do so as we nearly always take our own food on the M-ways. Took it as a one-off as had not read the rest of the comments here. Re-visited on the way home on 29/8/14 at 2100 as it had taken us an hour to get from M5 junction 7 to 4a and we needed the loos. There was the same smell but now it was overpowering. In addition there was an unacceptable amount of litter all round the front door and the bins were full to overflowing all round the main car park.In view of previous comments, one wonders if the management ever read this site.

I dislike this place a lot! You walk in to see the only way to get to the toilets is an escalator! The food I had to wait forever for and then in was cold! The coffee was hardly hot aswell! Will not visit again! So impractical for the elderly/disabled!

I have to say this is one of the nicest motorway services I have ever stopped at. Spacious, lovely outside area with play area (great for the kids), feels quiet as away from the road and clean toilets. Good selection of food shops. My only criticisms are that the 'eat in' food didn't look that great selection and the second time I was there, the bins outside were well past overflowing before someone came to change them.

Our coach stopped at Hopwood, We had at least 6/7 people who were using walking sticks and needed to use disabled toilets. There was already a queue and only one toilet as family using baby changing facilities in other. one of our people decided to go up stairs which you have to use escalators. She then could not get down as she was frightned of getting back on excalator. I had to ask a member of staff if there was a lift. He said there was one for staff. I explained and said that this customer needed to use it. He did take her down, but why are the disabled, ederly and infirm treated like this. Why isent there a lift for them to use to go to the other toilets. In this day and age Hopwood are discriminating against the disabled. If a full coach came in who needed to use disabled toilets they wouild have a long wait. The disabled toilet is not even in a nice area or space. Get your act together and plan some new toilet facilities for the elderly, disabled.

People are complaining about Hopwood, Go down the road to strensham !!!!!! The toilets at night are a morass of blocked toilets urine all over the floo and most of the cubicles locked - out of order. The food service is attrocious and we have waited up to 45 mins to get served then waited 25 minutes for the food.
Read the comments at strensham, the duty manager tried to explain the guy who services the toilets was off sick, GET REAL look at the complaints, THE GUY WOULD HAVE HAD TO BE OFF 6 MONTHS. At least at Hopwood they try , so keep on trying, As for food, & Petrol, your paying for 24 hour services, If you want cheap petrol , take a 20 mile detour off your journey and find it !!!!! What do people want lol !!!!!!!

A few people on here have commented on the over-pricing at this & other such motorway services by saying "well what do you expect as they are offering a convenience" Well what a load of rubbish !! They are there to screw you over, and are happy to do so.Why should you have to pay more than on the high street? And to be honest, if most of the companys there like waitrose,whs,kfc, etc, etc, offered the same standard of service/quality/price on the high street then they would soon be out of business.Even the fuel is over what's already over-priced everywhere else !! and you have to ask yourself why? surely it's more convenient for them to deliver it to a motorway service area than most places you find a petrol station?It's an absolute disgrace !! Make use of their toilets, seating,free parking & anything else that's free, but use your brain & prepare or pack your own food & drink & save yourself a lot of disappointment & a lot of money !!ps,warming your own food in the free to use microwaves in the baby changing toilets is probably not allowed ??? :)

As a worker at Hopwood i have to say the staff are dismal, and i do know why.. its moaning customers who expect everything at online or supermarket prices.. its a services for god sake ! pay it or dont your not being forced to! also the disabled toilet location is terrible, the staff in the accessories shop next to it must get sick of people asking where the toilets are 24/7 i feel sorry for them. The baby change and disabled toilets are rarely cleaned to a reasonable standard , but the overall cleanliness of the services is satisfactory. How can you also expect some staff to smile and be happy when you work for a shodddy company anyway! why am i even writing this coz no body cares and nothing will change, have a good day people. Bye!

We called here for fish, chips and mushy peas, bread butter and a cup of tea. I so wish I hadn't of bothered as they were absolutely disgusting. Where do I start, the fish had been cooked at least twice and the batter was so hard I couldn't even chew it, the chips were under cooked and the peas were cold. I would advise anyone thinking of calling at this service area to continue to the next one. It is without doubt the worst service area I have ever been too for food.

We visited on Friday August 23 with a motorhome. The parking for caravans/motorhome was closed due to being filled with coaches. We did find a space in the car park, but due to the size of the van had to park partly on the grass, much to the annoyance of a man pick nicking on the grass.
No footpath to the catering area so had to continually dodge in between cars, putting our lives art risk.
On finding loos, my wife found the noise deafening from 12 Dyson hand dryers all going at the same time. I believe this is caused by the metal roof as the noise was bad throughout the catering hall.
Big queues for food, though found the upstairs cafÃƒÂ© a pleasant place with views over woods.
We shall try to avoid this service area again.

Had breakfast here on Sunday morning. Typical motorway food, not brilliant and not awful, pretty well much what you would expect.
However, the cutlery was dirty and after pointing this out they took away all the cutlery at one workstation and replaced it.
Why are the staff not checking it as they put it out?

I have just received a Parking Charge Notice from ParkingEye for Ã‚Â£90 because I stayed at The Hopwood services whilst meeting a friend and using the food hall for 2 hours 36 minutes.As the first 2 hours is free it makes parking at Hopwood cost is Ã‚Â£2.50 a minute.I see that a lot of people ignore this company and get away with it - I have tried ringing them but unsurprisingly they are very difficult to get hold of.
Needless to say I shall never use Hopwood Services again and have passed this information on to my company who employ over a 150 people

In the lorry park there is a sign which reads "truckers beware thieves operate in this lorry park" but they still charge us Ã‚Â£21 to stay overnight or for another Ã‚Â£2.50 we can have a meal voucher which will not even buy a cup of coffee. After a long day trucking I thought I would get myself a decent meal...... Not possible, the food on offer had been on display for a long time, it had been freshened up by pouring gravy over the chicken, but had now congealed. I thought the chicken ham and mushroom pie would be a safe bet with chips and peas..........WRONG....... There was very little meat of any sort, the chips were so dry and cold no amount of gravy would have revived them. The peas were good. In Europe we do not have to pay to park overnight anywhere and in cafe/restaurants we get treated like kings. This particular service area is not alone............ They are all like it in this wonderful country......... It is the greedy people and company's that ruin it. If I survive the night here I will keep on trucking. Rule brittania.

My husband and I, a wheelchair user, called at the Hopwood Park Services on Monday 13th August 2012 intending to have some lunch and use the toilets. Unfortunately I counted 13 coaches, there may have been more, as these services are used as a hub for coach feeders and there were queues of people everywhere. There is only one disabled toilet on the ground floor and there was a long queue as there were people unable to use the escalator and there is no lift. We were there an hour just for the toilet and a cup of coffee. There should be more facilities if these coach companies are to continue using the services in this way.

I was taking a party to the National War Memorial at Tamworth and stopped off at Hopwood Services on the M42. We were greeted by Lins who directed my passengers towards the restaurant and even moved cars out of the coach bays.(Now there is a rare thing).She also looked after me like a mother hen (Bless) Can I say to Welcome Break well done. If more of the MSAÃ¢Â€Â™s took a leaf out of their book, for not only customer service, but also cleanliness. Our job would be so much easier. I stopped at Hopwood services on 9/07/12 and purchased 2 lattes from Eat in, which cost me Ã‚Â£5.50. They were served in paper take away cups and when i asked for a proper cup i was told that they hadn't got any because they needed collecting. Instead of asking me to wait a couple of minutes whilst they had some she said to me do you want them or not. When i checked her name badge i was shocked to discover that she was a team leader. She doesn't deserve to have a job that involves setting the standard of customer care to the rest of her team. If you have the choice of taking your own food and drinks with you i'd opt for this because they don't deserve the business. She needs to realise that it's us the paying customer that is keeping her and her team in a job and if we didn't spend the money she would be spending her time in the dole queue.

This services is the most confusing site I have ever visited and driving the motorway is a big part of my job. Signs for car parks and toilets aren't clear at all. Upon my last visit I brought a breakfast from 'Eat In'. I have to say for top prices it certainly is not top quality, giving me food poisoning. I also have to say that the female staff at the restaurant have no skills in customer service, smile girls it won't kill you!! I really do think they need to re hire staff that aren't rude. Not impressed and WILL NOT be returning!!

very sorry to read about all the probs with the parking "fines "...but as we all should know by now, private companies cannot fine you by law, its a private contract between you and them and no one should pay a penny unless you really believe you are guilty of abusing the system...its a scam, they will try scare you with paper but just bin them, its too expensive for them to go to court especially if they are in the wrong and thier camera cant prove otherwise.Now...although I hate motorway service staions, Hopwood is ideal for us with a dog...plenty of excersise area...and can sit outside but under cover very close to the KFC which has the most pleasant staff I have encountered at any motorway services.

Parking eye caught me one night on the way home from work and again the following morning on the the way there. They said I'd been there all night. I contacted the MD and it was canceled straight away. I guess they know that its not very reliable.

Called at services, went to hot food counter, partner ordered Sausage and Mash. Advert stated sauteed onions, the onions on top were raw red onion, which the gentleman serving informed "thats what sauteed means". The sausages looked fine from the top, hard and burnt on the bottom, inedible. If you are hungry, stick to the burgers and chicken. Did ask gentleman who i could contact about the quality of the food, he refused to give me the information. Also as my partner pointed out, all the serving utensils are hidden under the counter and only bought out the serve each item, meaning you can see what cleanliness is being used behing the scenes.

I visited Hopwood Services on 31 January 2012 for a business meeting. We are just setting our business up and decided to use the services as it is mid way between both Directors to have a meeting, both of us drove to the services in separate cars and spent money on food and drinks during our meeting.
I have today received a parking ticket from Parking Eye showing my car arriving and leaving at times which are not correct and my co-director has not received any notification, despite arriving and leaving a the same time as we both left inside the free paring time limit.
Needless to say we will not be using this venue again and would advise anyone visiting these services that this system seems to be inaccurate and you could find yourself on the wrong side of a Ã‚Â£60.00 fine just because you decided to have a coffee so I would avoid these services if you can.

I arrived at this site on 13 th January 2012.
I was meeting some friends who have been in Asia for the past 15 years. A lot to catch up on in that time. We got through loads of coffee.I left them for a further meeting in Newport.
I have now received a letter and photograph from parking eye saying I arrived at 2.35 and left at 5.05.
I did not enter or leave at those times.
Their machinery is obviously malfunctioning in some way.
How can I convince these guys of their error.

I am disgusted to learn that I have recieved a parking fine from Parking Eye alldging that on the 19.12.2011 my vehicle was parked at these services in excess of 8 hours. The truth is that I visited the services in the morning on my way to a meeting and again in the afternoon returning from my meeting. This is the second time this has happended to me at this service station, the first time being about 18 months ago. On that occassion I visited twice in the same day and thankfully my vehicle was recorded on CCTV at another location during the time it was supposed to have been parked at Hopwood Services. Having read the comments on this site of similar instances I feel it is about time Welcome Break got to grips with Parking Eye or alternatively I would urge people to use this service station at your own risk. This is an absolute disgrace

We have visited Hopwood many, many times with no problem, but yesterday, smokers standing outside under the entrance porch made entering these services similar to a trial by smoke. A horrid experience - there were so many of them the air was thick. Please provide an area for smokers away from the entrance.

After recieving a parkingeye fine ,we are now seeking legal advice as we feel we have been ripped off by this service station (our first and last visit,we normally stop at Corley)).We are OAPs this treatment is completely unacceptable. Advise other drivers to avoid this place so as not to fall into the same trap!

I received a parking charge from ParkingEye supposedly because my husband had parked at Hopwood for over 12.5 hours. He made the mistake of calling in for a coffee first thing in the morning and then doing the same in the evening when returning from a show. I emailed ParkingEye and Hopwood and have now received another notice with photographic evidence. All it does is show my husband visiting in the morning on his first visit and then leaving in the evening after his second visit. Needless to say, having read the other comments, we will be avoiding Hopwood in the future.

Unfortunately I had major car problems on M40 on 4th March 2011. I managed to lump to Hopwood Park Services and parked on the garage forecourt in the desifnated parking bays. To make matters worse, I had also left my mobile phone at home. I went into the petrol station and explained that I had no telephone and needed to call my insurance help line to get the car recovered. Tracey and Rob were working that night and were absolutely brilliant. Not only did they let me use the phone in the petrol station but they took the call back from my insurance help line and even let me have a hot chocolate on the house. Nothing was to much trouble - I wish there were more people around with the same care and levels of customer service! Well Done!
PS the car is now fixed!

It seems to me that whoever is in charge of the ParkingEye system needs a good kick up the backside. I today received a Ã‚Â£120 fine for allegedly parking on site all day when in actual fact I visited on my way to a meeting early morning and then on my way back home in the evening. Obviously I will not be paying and will provide receipts from places beyond these services to prove I was not there. However I will also be claiming back the cost of a first class stamp and Ã‚Â£35 for my hourly charge to sort this out. In addition I have made everyone at my company aware of this situation and recommend they donÃ¢Â€Â™t use these services and since I work for a national company hopefully this will have some effect. What a complete disgrace. I will also be taking this to BBC watchdog as going by the amount of other complaints there is obviously a problem and they are praying on the fact that there are many company car owners and hire car users stopping at this site who have no method of challenging as hire companies simply pay the fine and charge the user. Good scam if you can get away with it.

Visited Hopwood Services on the 10th Nov for a cup of coffee, must have been there all of 10 minutes. Today received a Parking Charge Notice from Parking Eye stating I had been there all day! This is either a scam or faulty equipment, either way it is shameful as they should have realised their mistake by all the complaints on this and other forums, let alone people who have simply written to appeal. I won't be paying a bean. It lets a perfectly good motorway services down very badly.

The parking fees are a total scam. We had broken down and were waiting for the serviceman to return with a replacement alternator ( he had already checked out our problem ) we were given a parking ticket. Upon examination it seems the parking company is breaking the law by deliberately making their NOTICES resemble genuine parking TICKETS. Shameful racketeering.IGNORE THEM

I have just received a parking ticket from hopwood services parkingeye car park management for 60 pound to be paid in four days also another one this morning with photografic evidence. Just to let anyone using hopwood this is not legal and is a SCAM so please ignore the letters they will never take you to court and if they do will never win so just ignore them as thousands of people are doing the same. I shall NEVER use hopwood services again. I am horrified that they let this happen.

Visited during the evening. Busy but everything running well. Clean facilities and very well managed. Drinks from Starbucks and shopping from Waitrose must be about the best combination in the network. Recommended.

I called in on my way back from the Glastonbury Festival to Doncaster on Sunday 27/6/10. I came home early from the festival because of the heat and risk of sunstroke. When I went to the toilets at the service station the heat was unbearable. It was clearly caused by the lack of ventilation and the many hand driers in action in the toilet area. The temperature of the rest of the building was fine, including the food. BUT YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE HOT TOILETS.

I have been using Hopwood Park Services several times each month for over 10 years and have always received good service. One of my key suppliers is based in Alvechurch and it has always been a handy stopping place for a coffee before and after meetings.
However I may never use these services again as I am being harassed by a totally incompetant parking company because I visited the services from 8.00 to 9.15 and from 2.00 to 3.30 on the same day. They nowtell me I was there for over 7 hours because their systems and procedures can not cope with multiple visits on the same day!
I have receipts for both my visits and several independant witnesses who can confirm my movements. The Parking Eye company refuse to investigate my claim properly and now tell me I owe Ã‚Â£110 if I visit Hopwood Park Services again my vehicle will be immobalised.
This last letter came on the same day as another from the same Parking Eye company telling me I had another 14 days to respond???
I would welcome any comment from Hopwood Park Services on this matter and I strongly suggest that you review your provider for this service.
Until I receive a positive response that my vehicle will not be immobilised I shall not be using your service again, which is a great shame.

Hopwood is a pleasure to visit that accomodates something for everyone. The newly and well presented waitrose and starbucks is top notch!! Forgotten your mobile charger, need a sat nav?? Fonebitz can sort out all your needs!! All of the staff seem friendly and helpful, ok i agree maybe a little on the expensive side but lets face it ... its a motorway service station and you pay for the convenience what do you expect. Its always been service with a smile for me so 10 out of 10.

This is my preferred stop, as it is almost excactly half-distance on my run from Somerset to Yorkshire.The faciluties are above average for an MSA. My usual lunch break is at Cafe Primo. The coffee is good, but sometimes not as hot as it should be. A quick return and friendly word sorts that out. There is a decent choice of paninis & toasties on sale, at usual MSA prices. In my opinion, Hopwood Park is a well-above average MSA.

I visited Hopwood in August on a journey on holiday with my family. I brought a coffee from coffee primo and was served by a very polite girl called Bailey. She is a credit to your team along with a couple of other people on the unit. The coffee was beautiful. Thank you.

I am disabled so had to use the one unisex toilet downstairs. Difficult to see if it was occupied, floor wet, smell of urine, paper floating around & 8 handle pumps needed to flush. Most people obviously give up & don't flush.

Stopped last Friday night for a KFC & was surprised by the fantastic & pleasant service of Ozzy - a credit to KFC (whom you can't send an online compliment to) & the services. Well done!!

just visited Hopwood Park and after eating a very tasty and well presented meal of fish and chips we sat out on the patio by a lovely fountain. The place was clean, bright, friendly and a pleasurable stop. Will certainly stop there again, tpo marks Hopwood

Why does no-one answer the telephone at Welcome Break, Hopwood Park? We are trying to 'think green', save fuel, and share a car. We want to know the car-parking rates for a 30-hour stay at Hopwood Park services. Your web-site gives almost no information and you don't answer the phone.

Used KFC in Hopwood - NEVER AGAIN. It was dirty, rubbish boxes in fire exit doorway, staff member threw popcorn chicken in general direction of this pile of rubbish, it missed so he left it rolling around the floor, counter was sticky and grimey and there was rubbish on the floor in the food serving area. Staff, that were visible, were scruffy (baggy jeans) and more concerned with "any chance of a fag break?". This was late in the evening it was very very quiet! Wonder what it would be like when busy?!!!! Doesn't bear thinking about!

I would just like to say that the staff at EAT IN are awful. They have personal conversations while serving customers, there was one lad called "Stuart" that was very very rude. I would not advise going to EAT IN the food is old and they drop the kids meals on the floor, I suggest going to BK or KFC.

Stopped yesterday for a coffee at Caffe Primo at around midday. Really impressed by the well turned out, cheery, polite, efficient staff there. About four girls all very busy, even though the cafe was not packed. Nice coffee. The staff are a credit to your company, and the service station!

I am a sales rep and often stop at hopwood services, after reading some of these comments,i cannot beleive that they are describing the same place!as for the rats, i havent seen any but i have seen customers throw their rubbish out of car windows or leave it at the side by their cars, surely this is whats causing the rat problems. i think the staff were welcoming friendly and cheerful.ok, prices are high but dont we all know that?i think some people just enjoy complaining for no reason!! the food must be good as i buy it often.i am amazaed at all these negative comments! i think hopwood is great.

My daughter & I were very wary of crossing the car park just after dusk yesterday evening after spotting rats skuttling across the footpaths & parking areas! Could there be a rubbish problem? I notice a previous comment (June 2007) re rats. I appreciate that rats abound everywhere that humans inhabit, but it is very off-putting to be confronted by them on arrival at the services! Can something be done about this problem perhaps?

hopwood park!! posiably the best MSA there is, espcially the newly designed eat in, all the staff were extreemly helpful, speacially a member of staff called Sheila. food was great to. a pleasure to vist wen most services are just rubbish. well done hopwood!!!

My husband and I were returning home from a wonderful holiday in France and stopped off for refreshments at Hopwood Services at about 10pm. My husband went to place some litter in the car-park bin which was full to the brim, when a huge rat popped his head out! All the litter bins were full - some overflowing so much, that rubbish lay all over the grassed areas near the car-parks - it was a disgrace. As we drove away we saw another two rats running across the car-park. After seeing such immaculate, clean facilities in France and concidering the Health and Safety aspects, I shall be writing to the manager to complain and will certainly not be using their facilities in the future.

An interesting fact. Cafe Primo at the M42 service station will not sell you a cup of hot water. It would appear that they consider the contents to be, and I quote, "an offensive weapon". Interestingly a cup of black tea or coffee is not such a weapon. I understand the "risks" of a irrate customer throwing a cup of hot liquid over something or someone and have no intent to diminsh the seriousness of such a potential assualt, but fail to see how this assualt is made different by the addition of a tea bag or coffee grounds. You might like to ask the Manager at the location for his views on the matter. For a non caffine drinker, who likes hot water, this seems like a irrational restriction.

Just wanted to commend a member of staff for the friendly smile and courteous manner with which I was greeted hen I stopped on my way back to S. Wales. The lady was in attendance in the female toilets. (27.02.07 at 7.45p.m)I think her name was Dawn. If you operate an incentive/award scheme for staff, then I believe she deserves one!!!! Further to the comment regarding staffing at Hopwood. One can tell you that Welcome Break has ungone a staffing restructure! Resulting in a many good numbers of staff across all their MSA's taking redundancy or leaving for greener pastures. So the problems were thrown the managers way, result a good number of managers have left the business, you only have to look at the latest vacancies sheet to see how many managers have left.Restructure! cost cutting more like, and making the staff who remain do the same job they did last year for less money. been stopping here for years, i've witnessed a steep decline in the amount of staff serving, i stopped at Hopwood Park twice this week as i was out travelling to visit the family. Both times me and my wife Angela stopped for a bite to eat at the KFC restaurant seeing as it appeared to have the fastest service, after 10 minutes both times they had no chicken to sell... NO CHICKEN! it was laughable. I approached the manageress on duty to express my dissatisfaction and had to endure a long-winded patronising almost pre-rehearsed faux-sympathy apology. Dont get me wrong, i've never had an issue with Hopwood services itself, but if this new KFC is having this many problems, i shudder to think what's hapening in the other sections.

Toilets are immaculate and staff seem friendly - if uninformed that most items on the menu are`off'. Not for the first time at this services, my wife and I could not eat our extortionately-priced meals - undercooked meat with green in the centre; masses of batter with a small amount of dry and flakey fish in the centre; cold chips like stained cardboard - even the capuccino was cold. Partly our fault we don't seem to learn to take sandwiches and a flask on our journey!

Fair size play ground for the children. Very welcoming atomosphere and polite staff along side the toilets are at a high standard. i would recommend these serivces to anybody. 9/10

Thanks for your overwhelming concern, the police were called and this an ongoing case, was just so nice of the staff to help where they can.
I guess this fell out of the duties of what they were trained for, and where unable to assist.

Visited the coffeee shop and was served by friendly helpful staff with a smile. Tables were clean and constantly cleared during the time we sat there. Toilets were clean and fress smelling.

I was the unlucky member to be a victim of road rage at the entrance to the services from the rouundabout.
My car was damaged and i suffered a broken nose and when entered the services for help i was told that no one could help.

This truly was the worst coffee and worst service I have ever had the misfortune to endure at a motorway service stop. The staff were surly and unhelpful, and the coffee was luke-warm and disgusting. Carry on a few extra miles and stop somewhere else!

Cafe Primo - the worst coffee ever! I paid an exhorbitant amount for a cappuccino regular at the downstairs outlet. The result was lukewarm and there was no discernable coffee taste. The closest thing to dishwater ever. Avoid at all costs. If these places are going to charge a fortune for coffee, at least provide something with a passing resemblance to continental coffee rather than instant coffee of 30 years ago.
