When I last insured my car, I tried loads of different insurance websites and price comparison sites, as well as phoning a broker. I also asked around various friends for their recommendations. And, after all that, I discovered that if I'd simply taken the majority advice of my acquaintances, I'd have saved myself a whole load of time. Because the most popular answer from people I asked was also the first website I'd tried: Direct Line.

So, although this page is an advert, it is one that comes from a genuine personal recommendation. I now use Direct Line for my own car insurance, as do many of my friends and colleagues. Not only were they the cheapest I could find for my car, but they also were one of the few to offer a guaranteed hire car if mine is stolen, rather than just in for repair. Having had to suffer from a month's worth of forced public transport use when my previous car was stolen early in 2005, I'm now well aware of how important this can be!
