Just stopped in the burger king on lancaster services and I cannot agree more with Neil Roberts comment. It was a dirty service station and the burger king was horrendous. The bread was falling apart and clearly very old and the meat didn't look or taste appetising at all! Avoid at all costs!

We called into Lancaster Services at 20.15 last night, travelling southbound. I've got to say, I've eaten in some dumps but that Burger King meal was one of the most unpleasurable eating experiences ever. Inattentive staff, overflowing bins, drinks straws strewn all over the floor (a young girl - not an employee - picked them up later), warm drinks, dirty tables - if we weren't starving we'd have left straight away. No wonder everyone stops at Tebay.

Called in for diesel 17/2/15 and shocked to Find the price was £1.27.99 per litre !!! I Bought £7 worth to get me to KENDAL and filled up at £1.12.99 per litre (60) saving £10 on comparison .What a rip off by BP at Forton!!!

Call in here often the toilets are mentioned on here I would like to say that the gents toilets did smell but this has been sorted out. The manager has tried several things but has finally found the right solution. After speaking to her I know that she has spent a lot of money and tried hard to solve this so well done your latest has worked and gents let's try and help keep them clean

Called in with my wife and kids on southbound on our way home from the lakes. We went in Burger King for the kids and cost for us both were great staff friendly and service fast. We also went across the bridge and used m&s to get some supplies for when we got home. The whole experience was good. I think that the staff deserve some praise as it is only usually people who want to complain that put things on websites like this. I am sure that they are under pressure a lot of the time and try there best. We would give them five stars for our visit.

My husband and I visited here yesterday travelling north at about 10.30am. It was not busy and we went upstairs to the restaurant. There was a picture above the serving station with several offers and we ordered 2 breakfast baps. It showed a picture of a bottle of orange juice (with no size visible) for a reduced price if buying a breakfast bap. There were bottles of the same looking orange juice placed beside the serving counter so while standing waiting for the breakfast baps we took 2 juices. When we got to the till the cost seemed high but we took it to our table then realised we had not been given the deal advertised but had been charged £2.50 for each bottle of juice. My husband went back to the till and was told that it was the smaller bottles that were in the deal. These bottles had been craftily placed to mislead customers. As we had already opened our bottles there was nothing could be done. While sitting there we noticed others taken in by the scam but it would not have been noticed if we had been buying more but we noticed because we were only buying a couple of items. I believe this was a deliberate ploy to mislead customers as when we mentioned it the cold tray was not filled up with the smaller bottles.

As a student who worked there for a brief time, I would advise any students from the surrounding area who are looking for part time work to avoid applying here.
Whilst I was there it was apparent that the majority of the policies towards staff (cash handling procedures/sales targets etc) are specifically designed to give managers an easy way to fire staff that they simply do not like. The same managers, I might add, that seem to go for a 15 minute cigarette break every half hour and return to chastise staff for 'not working hard enough'.
An example of the policies being geared towards newer members of staff are the "Rev Visits" whereby staff receive a bonus depending on the overall grade given by this "Rev". A shift of mine happened to coincide with a surprise Rev visit who went on to award us the second highest score in the UK. This resulted in the manager receiving over £1000, the shift manager received £750 whilst myself and fellow customer service assistants, who contributed hugely as the Rev was "highly impressed" with the speed and standard of our service, were not entitled to receive anything at all! not even a simple "Thank you" was given!
Ex staff member, Mon 18 Aug 2014
We went upstairs for some food. Waited 15 minutes as second in the queue for the cafe watching one member of staff with no urgency pottering around sorting out the person in front of us. Every now and then another member of staff would come over to chat to him bit despite the huge queue forming behind us did not start serving people. We gave up in the end and decided to get sandwiches from WHSmiths downstairs as we were pressed for time. There was no queue and I went straight to the till where the employee stood chatting to his colleague. He offered me no greeting and in fact held one of the sandwiches in preparation to scan it yet carried on with his conversation. After spending nearly £6 on these sandwiches, the man did not even thank me, despite me saying thank you and goodbye!I work in retail myself and am usually very sympathetic with people who work it as I know the hardships that come, but I would not dream of treating customers with as much disdain as the employees at these services clearly do.Will definitely be driving past in future.

Moto staff most helpful in trying to track down lost key.

I am currently sat in Burger King southbound. I have been waiting for more than 15 minutes waiting for my order to be brought over to me as there was a wait, I have just been up to the counter to ask for the food, I was greeted by a very rude young girl, who told me I had to wait. I could see my food under the lamps. I have still not been served and I an guarantee the quality of my food will be unsatisfactory, disgusting service so much for fast food.
Ryan Teasdale, Tue 17 Jun 2014
Called in here on Saturday it was so busy they were queued out of the door we used Burger King and the forecourt all the staff were friendly and helpful even though they were all under pressure. That's what I call good service. We'll done.
Mrs s hind, Tue 3 Jun 2014
Have to agree regarding the toilet smell, as posted by others on this site. Very off putting despite all else being o k. I spoke to the duty manager who told me they are aware of this and that it is to do with the drains. However, looking at the other comments on this site which are several months old, no action seems to be urgently forthcoming. I am unsure if this is a private matter for the owners or a council matter. If it is a private matter then why has no immediate action occurred? Is it not being taken seriously? I told the staff member I would not want to go for a drink in case I needed to return before I left the site. It was particularly bad on Sunday pm. The toilet itself was ok. I have used this service area often and can say this has been my experience often and southbound is just as bad regarding the smell. Always found staff pleasant.
Anne Simons, Wed 16 Apr 2014
Called in here and thought it was great. The staff were all very friendly.Had a great coffee in the costa on the north on my way to scotland called in the burger king on my way home south as i was hungry and this was great as well. The staff in here were all working hard but still had a smile.I found the ladies toilets to be clean and my husband said the gents were as well. So not sure about previous comments. The problem must be sorted.

i spoke to the manager about the toilets who told me that they are working on a solution for the smell in the toilets and my husband said it is getting better. We use this services a lot and find that the staff are very friendly and helpful. We have used all the places over time costa burger king.

Mr James Smith, Thu 27 Mar 2014
This one I would bypass. Smelly toilets(stale urine),overpriced, unappetising food upstairs with not very helpful staff. No wonder the place was empty!
J O Connell, Mon 3 Feb 2014
Avoid at all costs !!!!
Stopped off after a long drive to use the bathroom, was horrified when i went down the stairs! The smell hit me !!!
Dirty, horrible! Do they not clean the toliets with detergent? Ive never smelt a worse smell in all my life!
Wont be going back! Unless they seriously get rid of the 'piss' smell

I was in need of a strong coffee and some food, heading north after dropping off a fare at Liverpool airport. It was 0715 hrs when I stopped at Lancaster services, a Moto run site.I could see staff upstairs behind the counters in the food and coffee places. They were only interested in doing their paperwork, as both employees studiously ignored my presence at both counters.Had one of them said "I'll be with you in a moment." I would have stayed and bought something. Customer service was non existent.Downstairs at M&S I was greeted with a smile and quick service by a young lady who stopped stacking shelves to help me, so top marks there.

Eat in food / Gregg's . We're at? That's like a member of staff at a burger van asking if you would like to eat in or takeaway. I'm a driver that calls into this particular out let of Gregg's most mornings on my way south. I went in the day it opened. Which if I recall Correctly was a Thursday and I still call in today. The sign above the counter (as in all Gregg's) reads hot sandwiches served untill 11. Rite ( wrong) you try and get what you order up untill such time. There's either sausage and no bacon or vice versa,, or I've even had the no buns left line before today. This is a bakery??? At first yes one may assume that this is indeed just a teething problem for a new establishment. But heaven forbid that mr Gregg's / management have the gumption to be sitting there one day and think hmmm maybe we should order a few more sausages here or another pack of bacon!! Plus when I call in the morning the queue is out the door and there's only one member of staff serving? There will be another just moseying about getting a few sausage rolls out of the oven. But when I call in on the way back later in the day the shop will be empty and there will be 2 or 3 members of staff behind the counter and another re stocking the fridges or sweeping up!! I no it's nothing to do with the staff who are friendly and polite in most parts!! I think the whole place would run a lot smoother and be more efficient if just these few small points were addressed ..
Mr j r Hartley, Thu 31 Oct 2013
I visted Lancaster services south today and my mother used the disabled toilet on southbound. It was clean airy and working fine. We also used the lift to go to Marks and Spencer on the North to get some shopping for when we got home.I think we all need to appreciate that things break when they are being used constantly and i am sure they cant get them mended straight away. I have had experience as i am sure you have all had of the electrician or plumber who comes out looks at the problem and say's "i will need to go and get some parts, thats if i can get them today love". I would like to say that the staff in Burger King south where we had our lunch was great the service was good and the food as well. Vicky was showing mark how to come out to the customers and ask if everything was ok. I think this is great. The staff in M&S were allcfriendly and polite and the service was fast. So a great stop inall.

There are ground floor toilet facilities for people with mobility problems, clearly signed. Also ground floor toilet facilities inside the petrol forecourt buildings.
To anyone...As this isn't an official Moto website (as per the disclaimer at the bottom of the page) why not write to the General Manager at the site, or any other services that you feel disgruntled with, then your voice may be heard and complaints taken seriously. Instead of with a pinch of salt.
Its not the staff at these places who drop cigarette butts, tissues, chewing gum, coffee cups, used prophylactics, dog mess etc etc ...its you lot.
The place is open 364 days a year 24 hours. It's frequented by members of the mostly thoughtless public...it's going to get trashed, deal with it. The staff do their best under sometimes challenging circumstances, work around the clock (when most moaners are in bed) for very little reward and even less thanks from Joe Public.
People expect their backsides to be wiped for them when they come in a motorways services, one reason I dont work there anymore. Public...you made my life a misery.

I have visited the Forton Services today, 27th September 2013. The disabled toilet (south bound) was out of use so we had to go into the lift and cross the bridge. When we came back, the lift was not working so we were stranded. Outside of the lift was also a 'dumping' ground which needs a good clear out and clean (photo can be provided). When I last used Forton Services a few months ago, again the disabled toilets were out of order.
Someone mentioned in a previous comment that it would be discriminatory for wheelchair users to receive special treatment. All I was asking for was an accessible toilet to use (which includes lift access) which is a basic human need!
A telephone call from the Manager to discuss my concerns would be greatly appreciated.
Sue Taylor, Sat 28 Sep 2013
In response to the last comment about the toilets...
The gentleman was unfortunate in that he had to put up with what the previous occupant had left behind! As I've said before, "Don't moan about cleanliness, it's a thankless task trying to clean up after people who couldn't give a toss".
Just because someone is in a wheelchair it does not give them a right to special treatment, this would be discriminatory.
However, what Mr Warner IS ENTITLED TO EXPECT, like all other toilet users, is a clean environment in which to 'spend a penny'. If the toilets are dirty, that is because the great & good travelling British public leave them that way.
Do people leave their toilets in a s****y mess at home? Relieve themselves on the floor? Throw used paper in the sink? Change their offspring & stuff their filthy nappy behind the cistern? Pick their nose & wipe it on the wall?
I'm not a cleaner, but I know how hard they work to keep the toilets maintained. People, it's your own fault, it's your fellow travellers you SHOULD be having a moan at!!
While I'm at it, why do mothers steal the baby changing mats that are there for everyones use? Why have I seen parents hold their kids while they have a dump in the corner of the kids playground? Why do supposed dog lovers steal the water bowls placed there for other pets use? And why do caravanners insist on parking their wobble-boxes in the truck park, when there's a designated area for them by the Travelodge? Don't you realise how inconsiderate you are?
Moto Services is private property...respect it, dont abuse it. My rant in no way expresses the opinions of the services management.

I am a wheelchair dependent driver and was obliged to attempt to use the facilities here today 22.09.2013. With only one disabled accessible toilet which is usually wet and not very clean, today it was not even available for use. We are being constantly told what a great thing the paralympics of 2012 were for disabled people. Perhaps not!!!
David Warner, Sun 22 Sep 2013
I work here and have a reasonable request. Manners cost nothing, a fact all too often forgotten by the ignorant mealy mouthed ingrates who pass through here. Truck drivers excepted, who are always polite, courteous and a pleasure to deal with. Don't moan about prices, we all know it's cheaper on the high street...but you're not there now. Don't be rude about it and resort to personal insults. Don't shoot the messenger. Pay the prices and accept it or beggar off and shut up. Don't treat the person on the other side of the counter like a slave, even if they are paid slave wages. Don't moan about cleanliness, it's a thankless task trying to clean up after people who couldn't give a toss. Or rather, they do give a toss, all over the floor. I would hate to see the homes of 50% of the customers in here, they must be filth ridden hovels, Social Services would have a field day with some of the customers here. Their behaviour is appalling. Remember. ase , and thank you and excuse me go a long way. My rant in no way expresses the opinions of the services management.

You really need to take out a second mortgage to have breakfast here, I feel embarrassed if people from abroad eat at our service stations, we ate here on sat 20th july, the card machine was faulty so those with hot food queued for ages, the poor girl told them to eat their breakfast & pay later, she really struggled with the number of customers, the supervisor was just filling up the cutlery trays, instead of giving her a hand!
susan butterworth, Tue 23 Jul 2013
Last month I was travelling from Scotland to Stafford with my 18 month old son, and decided to stop off to stretch my legs and feed him before continuing south. He had a terrifying convulsion in the car park and an ambulance was called. In my panic as I rushed into the ambulance and off to hospital, I didn't get a chance to thank the staff at this service station who helped me (as did some kindly passers by). I shoved a telephone number in someone's hand who rang my family, and he also promised to keep an eye on my car which ended up being there for 24 hours. All was well, but thanks to the staff here who came to my rescue, we will stop in again, but not for a repeat performance hopefully!
Joanna, Fri 28 Jun 2013
Great staff and service! I quickly grabbed my lunch from m&s then a coffee from costa both outlets superb!
Sally, Fri 17 May 2013
Called to get a coffee on a long trip. The Costa attempt at an Iced Macchiato was pitiful, It was watery, sour, full of grit, (could that be coffee grounds), and generally unpalatable. By the time I found out we were rolling and the whole lot went in the bin at the exit to the car park.I've had bad coffee from this Costa before, so this is not a "one-off". Time for Costa to do a mystery shop, perhaps....

I visit this site regularly and have always thought it to be a good services, the staff are friendly and the service is good. To the 'annonymous staff memeber', maybe if you find the slip roads so untidy you could offer to help tidy them.
Happy customer., Fri 22 Feb 2013
I stop at lancaster all the time. The staff are freindly and the service good. I have used burger king and costa on both sides and have always been more than happy with the service. They even have greggs now. I am a trucker but i would like to say that truckers and cars cause the build up of rubbish by throwing out of there cars. WHY. There are plenty of bins to put your rubbish in would you throw it on the ground at home?
ron, Wed 20 Feb 2013
The amount of rubbish on either side of the slip road as you leave the servicrs going south is appauling. It looks really really really bad; it is disgraceful and breeds further fouling. Please arrange for the slips to be cleared and maintained at a high level.

Called in at lancaster services southbound yes i agree the toilets are old and small but they were clean. There is a recession at the moment and i am sure this buissiness is struggling the same as the rest. However this was more than made up for by the staff in costa and greggs. I grabed a coffee in costa and on my way back to the car got a sandwich and cake for my lunch later. At both places the service was excellent. Clean tidy and freindly.

We stopped at lancaster today and after sitting down with our coffee we noticed a lady walking around and she looked like someone in charge so I thought we would stop her for a chat about the services, she then told me she was the general manager I then went on to tell her that I thought the whole site looked so much better than our previous visit and we would certainly call again. Well done and keep it up. Doris and Ken x

Called in here last saturday we were on our way home from scotland, me and my two children went upstairs to the burger king and my husband went to costa. I have to say we were served by a young lad who's name badge i did not quite see, the girl on the other till was Amy. Vicky was helping them bag up the meals. They were all working hard and at the same time Amy and Vicky were chatting to the customers and each other. Amy and Vicky explained the Guestrac burger king website to me. They were also playing some kind of bongo as part of there job. I asked about this as we waited a few mins for our food. I was told it was a competition between the staff Vicky and the young lad were jocking with Amy that he would win. The atmosphere was great so not sure about previous comments. My husband was serve by Anthony in the Costa and he said the service was great and the coffee lovely. While i agree the toilets are old they were clean and to me that is all that matters.
Sam and David, Tue 29 Jan 2013
This place has needed doing up for at least 20 years. Southbound toilets are awful - too small to get in as doors are too close to toilet - and which idiot thought it would be a good idea to put toilet roll behind your head in the ladies?! The only positives are the costa & M&S food. Everything else needs demolishing
Ifeedback, Mon 28 Jan 2013
What a horrible, horrible place. Toilets that are either out of order, full and not able to be flushed (!!) or with broken doors.
The whole setup is bleak, dirty and damp. I'd rather carry on and take my chances at the Truckstop a couple of miles further on. Doesn't deserve to share a road with Tebay. Filth.

My family stopped here whilst travelling. We were famished so decided to stop for a quick bite to eat, we was going to eat from the cafe on the north side but seemed to be really slow service so decided to go over to Burger King on the southside. Whilst we were in a small queue we got a really negative vibe from the manager, (assuming she was called Vicky from her nametag), we could hear her shouting and swearing at the staff who all seemed to be working hard. Her launguage was disgusting, this resulting in us leaving Burger King as I had my young children with me. In the end we setteled for sandwiches from WHSmith and ate in the car!! Very poor managment skills! No respect for staff or customers! Will not be stopping here again.
Emma Jones, Thu 17 Jan 2013
I took my children to Burger King at forton services and was disgusted at what I heard the manager was swearing at one of the workers there. I was disgusted and felt sorry for the young man who had some minutes earlier served me. A nice young man with nice polite manners the manager needs sacking in my opinion disgusting to say the least
Christine fielding, Sun 13 Jan 2013
My family stopped here on our drive from aberdeen to Chester. This services are the worst I've ever been too. I have a 10 month old boy so the stop was made even worse. On arrival the first thing I noticed is most of the lamp posts in the car park don't work. Then for some reason the baby change is a shared area and the door doesn't close, plus there are windows on the doors so people can see in!!!!
They have a baby feed area which was minging. Literally nothing there, no bottle warmer/ wipes etc. obviously we had our own but the place was disgusting. Tables full of crap and had not been cleared in hours.just grotty through out.
There's a walkway to go from one side of the services to the other, ths stank of urine. I have never bothered to waste my time whining about things online, this place is that bad I thought I should warn others.
Plan your route and stop somewhere else!!!
Daniel, Sun 13 Jan 2013
On a recent journey (31 October 2012) from Perth to Oxford we had the misfortune to stop at Lancaster Service Station on the M6 in the afternoon. We had a lovely coffee/cake at Costa but that’s where it all ended. The area was very cold as the front doors we opening all the time – a separate hall entrance would have helped and the noise from the slot machines and the store room in Costa was irritating.
A trip to the toilet was AWFUL the smell in the Ladies – urine, four toilets had the sanitary bins on top of the loo indicating out of order – the radiator at the end wall was disgusting – didn’t go up to close for a look but what a state.
I would feel very embarrassed if I had heard any foreign visitors to think that this was a modern busy refreshment stop – oh how I wish we had stopped of at Tebay services
Anonymous, Thu 8 Nov 2012
Southbound 7pm Tuesday: Mens toilets ok. Womens toilets stank. If it had not been for the fact that my wife was desperate for the loo, she would never have used them. The woman in the next cubicle was imploring her toddler not to touch anything lest it be contagious. Burger king ok for chips and onion rings. Ignore the signs saying "only eat BK food in here", as it is too far to go to the other side to eat your sandwiches, and let's face it, what are they preserving the space for??
A traveller, Thu 1 Nov 2012
It looks far better than it is with the futuristic airport control tower lookalike restaurant( sadly disused for health and safety reasons). However, the rest of the site is very dated with peeling paint and old decor. Also if you check Trip Advisor, the Travelodge is one of the worst in Britain and very difficult to get to from the southern side. I wish someone like Richard Branson would take over these crumbling wrecks like Forton and make our motorway services as good as his trains and planes
Glenn Aylett, Mon 24 Sep 2012
Please please please stop blaming the staff for your unpleasant experience we are not disinterested "zombies" work shy or people who "phone" in sick after a Friday night out you seem to think our jobs are easy well it's not and in this current climate it's not like we have a choice where we can or cannot work (no matter how educated we are) do yourself a favor and start helping people like us a smile a hello a thank you goes a long way with us stop bitching about people you don't even know and people who have to work long and unsocial hours and also people who have to work these hours whilst dealing with problems (work and home) you have no idea about get a life guys and stop being so sad we are providing a service...Don't like it? Don't use it!!!
Disgruntled shop worker, Mon 27 Aug 2012
First impressions: the Costa Coffee area looks good, but the queues were out to the concourse. Gave that a miss. Second impressions: Burger King is dire. Dirty floors and windows, wobbly tables, fading paintwork. Queued for food anyway; till staff were efficient but weren't matched by those behind the scenes resulting in a large throng of customers waiting to collect food they had paid for. Toilets were also in need of some attention from the cleaners. Overall, it seems to me that the place is seriously under-staffed and needs better management.
Mark, Mon 30 Jul 2012
We stopped at Forton Services on a journey south on Sunday 17 June mainly because of the presence of M&S there and despite previous bad experiences there. It is something we will not repeat!! The loos smelt strongly of urine and in the male toilet one seat in a cubicle was totally missing. Costa coffee was staffed by 2 young people doing their best but the queues were long and the tables had obviously not been cleared for a very long time. I gave up after waiting 10 minutes. It was inconvenient to have to cross the bridge to get to M&S but that would have been acceptable if the Services had been adequate. We got out as soon as we could. These kinds of adverse comments have been so frequent over some time why is something not being done about it e.g. taking the franchise away from Moto?? These are the worst services we have visited!!
Gordon Stirrat, Mon 25 Jun 2012
I had the misfortune of having to stop at forton services on wed 06.06.12. as a family member i was traveling with needed the loo. i was first struck by the scruffy dirty look of the building itself which certainly needed a lick of paint and fresh paving. the automatic doors were not working which made things difficult for wheel chairs and pushchairs. finally we found the loo which were badly sign posted but that was not a problem as we found them by following the smell, unbelievable in this day and age of ultra cleaning products and air fresh cleaning products could a toilet facility smell so bad. its a good job there was not a queue as i think i would have been sick.i might have been better going outside lets face it no one would have noticed a bit more muck and no one would have seen me anyway as the windows in the building were so filthy you couldn't see through them. well done forton services for showing the public and visitors from other countries how we look after travelers. p.s. i will not be stopping here again.
jacquie walker, Fri 8 Jun 2012
Moto should be publicly humiliated and disgraced with this service station. Its not that its just tatty, which it is, pain peeling everywhere outside and in. Its not just the dreadfull signage, which Moto have in all their service stations (A pink sign for the blokes loo with a symbol for the ladies which makes them look pear shaped). Its the fact that this is an iconic service station with a brilliant viewing tower that can't be used. The layout is a mess, and why has the place has been laft to fall apart. The Burge King on the Southbound side is a huge void of a place with all the character stripped out.Its such a shaoe but the place feels abandoned and sad.Do something MOto.
C. Jones, Tue 21 Feb 2012
I'd like to make a suggestion for a mobile phone app for smart phones. One that makes an audible alert sound when you are a mile away from a Moto service (and i use that word very loosely) area. That way users of this app will have the good sense of mind to avoid them like the plague. Take Lancaster Forton for instance, i had a full english there this morning. 1 rasher bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, beans, 2 hash browns, 2 slices fried bread, 2 slices brown toast (at extra cost) plum tomatoes. I wasnt put off the price of £11.48 because i was absolutely starving.Normally when i pay for food i will eat it whatever it tastes like, simply becase i know somebody has worked hard to produce it. But this "food" was nothing short of dire. The bacon, i couldnt cut with a knife.Sausages, no taste and hard.Eggs perfect.Hash browns hard.Fried bread was stale bread dipped in oil.Brown toast, burnt.Plum tomatoes, perfect. I was given a free tub of jam (blackcurrant). Going of what i did actually eat, i should have spread the jam on the eggs and used the tomatoes as the filling. I even threw away my coffee.I know what you moto lovers will say, "why didnt you say anything to them at the time?" Simple, because i dont like to complain. It has taken me all day of this bubbling away in my mind to get to the stage i am at now. This is my pre-Moto complaint. I have no reason to think my complaint will get me anywhere, i just wish to make them aware of the state their food court is in.I'll sit back now and wait for you all to start mocking / ridiculing me. I wont be upset or annoyed, so feel free and fire away.
MrRegSorfleet, Sat 11 Feb 2012
To the complainers, why dont you write to Moto themselves, instead of complaining on a website that has nothing to do with Moto? You might as well whistle into the wind. The last time I had an issue with the services I wrote to their HO and it was resolved.

Having just read the comment from an elderly lady who needs to use a walking stick and struggles with the cubicle door causing her to contort her back, I hope it won't be long before Moto does something about it, as I shall not stop at any Moto service area again until the problem is addressed.

Desperate for a Loo!, Thu 15 Sep 2011
Having added a comment about the inadequate space within a cubicle, in your Ladies loos, to stand when closing or opening; I am now writing to comment about the excellent design of the Ladies cubicles at the Sandbach services (Roadchef): the door is at an angle, with the door hinge being on the shorter side, and opening outwards; such a simple design, yet so effective, ensuring that whatever size or shape a woman is, and however many young children she may have, there is absolutely no problem getting in or out. Their architect deserves a medal and I would like to recommend that your highly paid architect(s) takes a look and copies their fine example.
Desperate for the Loo, Thu 15 Sep 2011
This comment is for the people who are paid a fortune to make decisions regarding size of cubicles....
I called at your South bound service station when driving from Barrow-in-Furness to Preston because I needed to use the loo and had problems with the size of the ladies cubicles; ie I struggled to get in and out the cublicle due to its being too small. I am and OAP and wear size 18 clothes, so I am not huge but the space within the cubicle when trying to open or close the door is totally inadequate.
As I squeezed out afterwards, I noticed a woman with a young child having even more difficulty. What about pregnant women too?
Who were the people who passed the decision that the cubicles were this size? I doubt they were women, and I doubt they were large, older men either! I would like to see a tall and/or overweight, pot bellied man trying to squeeze in and/or out of one!
They are not suitable for purpose and need to be changed as soon as possible, rather than cause women uncomfortable embarrassment.
Meanwhile, I will avoid Moto service stations.

Mr A.Coward, I assume that's not your real name?Maybe its Rick(with a silent "P")

Makes me laugh when people comment as if they are talking to Moto directly. "Your services this"..."Your services that..." This site isn't affiliated to any operator (as per the disclaimer at the bottom) Griping about food, prices etc won't do any good here. If you want a response why not write to companies directly?

Called in service station on way back from Scotland with my family including elderly mum in whelchair, wanted to use the lift but it was'nt working .We had tried to operate the lift without success until a kind gent cleaner told us that it was'nt working . Why a simple "Out Of Order" sign could not have been put in place as we were told "it was broke yesterday as well" We then decide to have a coffee at "Costa Coffee" only to find there were no clean table for us to use ,so we asked the Costa staff if they would please clear a table for us and the staff politly said she would but as they were short staffed again please complain to the service management so here we are!The costa staff were grossly understaffed and potential customers were walking out when they could see the time they would need to wait to be served, we would have to but mum needed some sustanance after the long journey. Please for the sake of underpaid hard working staff get staff in when people "phone " in sick at 7.am after Friday night on the town. Its just not fair or good managent to stress out loyal staff and boy these staff at "costa" are the best 3 doing the work of 5 give them the two who did not turn in there wages as they truly deserve it.Also to "costa" why don't you have a system similer to McDonalds where customer simply empty there trays when they have finished there meal seems to work for them OK. Time about 12.30hrs Sat 9th July 2011

If your kids are being a pain(im hungry, want to stop at every services),Take a trip into burger king at Lancaster, its got George & Mildred tables and chairs(circa 1970s),and staff that could easily star in the next Zombies Dawn of the Dead movie without even stretching their acting talents, mix this with some rather dubious food(beware - at extortionate prices). You will find that your journey will continue Quieter and with less earache from the small people(im expecting them to ask to take s/w with them next time)
wilbur, Mon 11 Jul 2011
Southbound access is hindered by structural changes to the car park and a particularly narrow entrance for cars. Its an older facility in need of an upgrade. It all seems a bit squashed in. Service was fine.

I wanted to point out to you a difficulty I had when visiting your services on Monday 18th April 2011. I went to visit the toilet but have mobility difficulties and walk with the aid of a stick. I did not have a Radar key so went on to the normal ladies toilet. I found I had to manoeuvre down one side of the toilet as the door opened to nearly touch the toilet seat itself and on one side was the toilet roll holder sticking out. This all pulled on my back as I have also had spinal surgery as well as problems walking with my leg.I just wanted to point out these difficulties for disabled people without a Radar key.
Angela Taylor, Wed 20 Apr 2011
We stopped at you services on 15th October 2010, I would just like to thank the young man in the cafe who gave me some ice for my daughters leg, even though the cafe was closed, he was very polite and helpfull. (Unfortunately I didn't get his name!) Thanks again.

I know that Moto have an appeals process - so if you've received a Parking Charge when you've broken down or fallen asleep log onto the Moto-Way web site for more information

I know that Moto have an appeals process if you've received a Parking Charge when you've broken down or fallen asleep - log onto the Moto-Way web site for more information
There is a £50 fine for 'overparking' here, which rises to £80 if not paid within a certain time frame. I would suggest that anyone who breaks down AND CAN PROVE IT, with corroborating evidence from their recovery service, contacts CP Plus (who issue the tickets)and argue your case! If you're broken down, what else can you do when it's not your fault.
Anon, Thu 19 Aug 2010
Would NEVER stop there again. we broke down north bound and because the sevice truck called for a recovery vehical and we were stopped for 2hours and 49 min. (not by choise)! We had a £80 fine. Great place. So understanding and welcoming!

The food at EDC on Northbound was cold and disgusting.

I am a loyal customer to M&S Forton Nr Lancaster , the all sit could do with a major clean up and a lick of paint, toilets are horrible and smelley could do with an air freshener, it used to be a good services to stop,There was young Big lad in M and S that worked in Burger king north that was transferred down to M and S about a year ago that is the main reason i go there for the friendly smile and service, could not ask for better customer service, he also has in Costa aka rittaza north a relitve working there that is also very well mannared and always got a smile on her face aswel she & i think it is Danny in m and s that is also great, i will like to take this time to Praise them both, i know that Danny does not have it easy because he was getting bullied by supervisors aswel as managers.witch i dont thinks is very fair indeed, but he still gets on with his work and is very customer friendly but you can tell deep down he is not happy.i ahve still been going in to the services for that last 15 weeks and i have not seen him there the team just look at me stupidly and tell me he is off sick but they said he could not be bothered but i think i know danny well enough to know that is not like danny one bit, i hope he gets well soon and if he does not come back i will no longer be going there , hes the maqin reason i go ther and i spend about £50 per week there.

Couldn't stop laughing at the story about the small cups of coke - unfortunately I can totally believe it!
James Chapman, Wed 9 Dec 2009
Stopped about 1.30pm on December 7 for some food. What a dump. Run down Broken down and could not care less. The food from EDC was about acceptable but why do you wait with hot food in a queue behind people only ordering coffee and hot chocolate when the other til is available but unmanned. The tables were littered with dishes and left over food. Why not give the place a coat of paint and find some foreign workers if you are short staffed ,after all there is only 2.5 million unemployed. If you are traveling north on the M6 then I suggest you wait until Tebay and if south then I suggest you stop again at Tebay. If I had my way I would close it down Knock it down and start again.
Derry Hanratty, Tue 8 Dec 2009
This is one of my favorites... just the right over night stopping distance between London and Glasgow!
Jim Bob, Tue 10 Nov 2009
Why oh why do we have to run the gauntlet of the insistent and rude "credit card" sales people. They pick a point so that no one can get past with out being accosted, and are just so annoying. As a regular user of the M6 in this area, I for one will not be stopping again. Coming through the southbound side today was such a poor customer experience.
Malcolm Austin, Tue 20 Oct 2009
Poor me, I was driving well in the saturday night and I was hungry. Stopped on Lancaster services and went to eat something, which I never do, as I am trying to avoid eating on MSA as much as possible as food is usually crap and prices are from the moon. Usually in this rare situation that I am stuck on MSA and have to eat, I go for Burger King or whatever they had, but I decided to go to EDC instead. There was a special deal: buy a meal for 4.99 and you get small drink for 99p. So I took the meal, went to the coke tap, and there were various cups. I could not work out what's mean "small" as it wasn't written on the advert, so I took the smallest cup I could found there (0.5 l), filled it with coke and went to till. The guy told 4.99 for meal and 2.76 (or something) for drink. Then we had this conversation:Me: But it should be 99pHe: Nope, it's a regular one.Me: It was the smallest cup.He: No it's not.Me: But there aren't any smaller. He: I don't care, you filled regular one, you have to pay for regular.Me: But I don't want regular, I want small. He: So you should fill small cup.Me: So what can I do if there aren't any small cups there? He: (after heavy thinking) You can pour out some of this cokeMe: But how much? He: I don't knowMe: So just take this back, and give me a small cup.He: (gave me coffe cup and poured away 0.5 l of coke)Me: (went to the tap, filled it with coke, came back to till and paid).
OK, I can understand, they try to evade people who are taking regular drinks and want to pay for small one. But there is much easier way to do that: supply the coke machine with the small cups to let people use them. Meantime I was sitting there, eating my dinner, sipping my coke and watching: in about 20 minutes I was there, 4 other customers had the same problem, four times they refused to pay, four times they got coffe cup from the till and 0.5 litres of coke (or it's multiplication as in two cases they were buying two meals) was wasted.
I can't understand that: so say, company runs out of cups. Why can't they put coffe cups next to the machine along with a sign "sorry, no coke cups left, for small drinks use coffe cups"
But what's most stupid for me: if the customers already filled the regular cups by mistake, isn't is cheaper to sell them regular ones in the price of small ones (which will cost company giving this 0.17 l of coke for free) instead of wasting 0.5 l and selling them 0.33 litres again?
In 20 minutes I was there they wasted 3 l of coke (according to them worth over 16 quids...)

It was a very hot day and the restaurant was far too hot. The windows apparently do not open, but there should have been airconditioning. (there was good A/C in the ladies room) It was really unbearably hot and airless. The staff were suffering from the heat, I don't know how they managed, but they were still, as always, very pleasant and friendly and helpful. I would have been pretty grumpy if I were working there. Gold stars all round for the staff!!
Celia Jackson, Wed 24 Jun 2009
I was driving North to Scotland on the M6 and I missed the turn for Forton services, where I had arranged to meet people, because you have changed the sign to Lancaster services. This is completely unacceptable, you really ought to sort your signs out and do it soon before it causes somebody to get hurt.

Just had a meal in these services it was horrible, i feel sick and the staff that is another story
Dave Tyers, Sat 3 Jan 2009
Mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, the Burger King had the least useful staff I've ever known: the manager (who looked about 18) and two assistants were all busy serving one woman and seemed incapable of taking my order while they waited on her food coming like most do. On the other hand, the toilets were clean enough, but I in the male toilets (I'm told it isn't like this in the female ones) there is one large circular sink with several taps at which to wash your hands. It was something a bit different, which I liked.

is it true they are going to noke this down to make why four the widanig
i hope this is ni true ok it not the bes services in the world but the tower is icoick (i think it is grade 2 lissted)

Four of us, all OAPs, paid £35.96 for four breakfasts. They were marginally better than pig swill, cutlery was filthy and by the time we got someone to take our payment it was cold. How can anybody not realise that this is the reason people only use service areas for the toilets, which also leave a lot to be desired. It is apparent from the standard of employee on duty that greedy owners are only paying minimum wages. They seem to lack interset and are a terrible advert for UK services. I most certainly will never visit your service area again.

MY WIFE AND I STOPPED FOR BREAKFAST AT 7.30 AM 6/7/08. MEAL WAS DISGUSTING, DRIED AND OVERCOOKED. WHATEVER FOREIGN TOURISTS THINK WHEN THEY ARE SERVED WITH OVERPRICED RUBBISH IN ESTABLISHMENTS OF THIS KIND I HATE TO THINK. I HAVE USED MANY MOTORWAY SERVICES DURING MY TRAVELS,AND THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST I HAVE EVER EATEN IN.

The tower used to be the truckers resteraunt and should never have been closed. overall lancaster is the pits

lancaster(fornton) only service area ownd by the local authority when did the tower stop being a resturant. What typ of food was served in the tower. Is this the only service area with a tower resturant.others had a gantry resturant when did vay close. This was shown on the recent bbc 4 motorway history august 2007
david abbot, Sat 8 Sep 2007
Bad service, I am a coach drievr and unless you bring in a large coach with tourists they are not interested. All coach drivers are supposed to get incentives to bring our trade into the services, but only some actually get it. Coach drivers beware its a rip off, take your trade to another services who actually care.
bill patterson, Mon 13 Aug 2007
stopped at forton today, lovely little services, the tower is fantastic, shame it is closed. Burger King ok but a bit expensive and slow but all clean and was not crowded. would recommend anyone to stop here as very nice, M and S was well stocked and seemed to be doing a roaring trade, maybe thats why the resturant upstairs was quiet. I would reccomend anyone to stop here, even if it to take a look at the tower. they MUST open this again and make it into a giant rotating Mcdonalds.
keep it up Forton

Not the most attractive building but services were ok. Newly opened M&S simply food on the northbound side. Limited stock but fine for a motorway services

I had an absolutely wonderful experience here on my way to Edinburgh from Wales. A very nice young man who worked behind the counter helped me out. He was so sweet, and was kind when I asked my "stupid American" questions. Haha. :-)

Quite alright. Toilets put me off a bit as they looked like they had not been done since the 1960s which was when it was built. Needs to be updated just an ickle bit.

I stopped here for a burger on the way to Glasgow a couple of weeks ago. Seems a pity that the tower is closed - the current food court is rather bland by comparison.
