visited march 5 approx. 8pmtried the new harry ramsden not bad - staff friendly - food good nothing special on fish - pie very goodthe area was let down by the dirty cutlery stationthere was no forks - asked at harrys - the lady went to get somethey were brought out by a surly member of staff although I was stood there no enquiry was made as to what I wanted- the cutlery was dropped in the baskets - I noticed that the surface was stained with spilt drinks- the bin was overflowing and a 2 litre bottle of milk was stood there with no top onafter we finished eating I saw the same girl wiping tables, this consisted of a dry cloth to knock the crumbs off, no sprayas we left the cutlery station was still in the same state - 45 mins and no one had cleaned it shame on you

The state of these services is appalling.Passed through on the 27th Dec 14 on the south bound entry and the whole place was just dirty.I even asked if the cleaners were on strike as I was shocked by the state of the place.The floors were covered in litter,the bins were over flowing and the toilets were just a mess.These services used to be really well run so am not sure why the service has been allowed to go downhill and judging by the comments here,I am not the only one who feels this way.

We stopped at these services on a long journey back down South. The whole service station was awful, overfilling bins, dirty toilets and neglected. We chose to eat at the Burger King restaurant and the food, service and general upkeep was so poor I felt obliged to complain. The food was luke warm, well overpriced and the staff were uninterested with customer service. The table my family sat at was dirty and the floor littered with other peoples food and leftovers.
The management of these services need to get a grip. I will never visit again, I came away angry, feeling like I needed a wash. Disgusting.

Visited L F at 08:00 on Sunday 31 August 2014. Being disabled I had to visit the toilet, to find it in a disgusting state. The nappy box was overflowing, and paper was all over the floor.
I made enquiries with a gentle man, who told me he could do nothing about this.
I have used this facility on many occasions and found it in the same condition.
It is obvious that you have attempted to improve this, but sharing toilets with child nappy changing is first of all not hygienic and an insult to unfortunate people who require this service.

The road signage and painted road markings need an update, and some resurfacing wouldn't go amiss. Just experienced the confusion of trying to find car park exit - many cars just circulating, and two near accidents.

I have always when driving up and down the motorways as a coach driver tried to get to welcome break service centre's, as I have many times said to countless passengers over many years "welcome break" are the best motorway service,BUT what a failure yesterday afternoon was, the failures may have come about because of a bank holiday''' fed up staff that had little interest to serve, tables full of clutter and other people's rubbish, what a total let down, more so for me saying Welcome Break are the Best,
We had driven down from Scotland this being our second stop, we likewise needed to fuel up, so I said the stop is for one hour, what a shock the food turned out to be, it was basically awful, dry over cooked beans that looked as though they had been cooking for hours, peas that looked more yellow than green, fish that the batter was so hard I had to basically saw it, the other driver had a pie, he couldn't even cut his it was so hard, and chips "well I hope I never have to try and eat one as bad as they were ever again" the only bonus we had on the food was we had a voucher so we didn't have to pay, but our passenger's did.
Many passenger's made strange comments to me like I thought you said that was the best, don't take us there again etc etc their moaning went on and on.I'am sure this was a one off welcome break.

My wife and I ate at the "Eat In" at Leicester Forest East Services, on Wednesday 9th April 2014.I had a Chicken, ham and mushroom pie with chips and peas. My wife had a chicken curry. Both meals were totally inedible. The curry had four small pieces of chicken. It was cold and tasteless. The pie crust was rock hard, the filling had two specks of chicken and no ham or mushroom in it. The chips and peas were cold. The meal was not cheap but could not be eaten. Please avoid this food outlet at all costs.

Had breakfast here this morning Sunday 2nd Feb. The most disgusting breakfast I have ever had, fried egg was raw so left it, hash brown was a mushy mess. Sausages were tough and inedible. Cost was Ã‚Â£9.50 a disgrace. How Welcome Break can still be running these services is a wonder. Does the Department of Transport ever check these places. Travellers deserve far better and this place give a very bad image of English hospitality. The service was so slow that by the time you get to pay every thing is cold. the staff seem disinterested in their jobs. Please can someone make this improve. I will start a campaign to berate Welcome Break until they improve. I travel up and down the motorways very often. please please make this improve I cannot be the only person who thinks this is crap service, it is a wonder no one is poisoned or made ill. the woman cooking the eggs had not clue, she broke 3 hence mine was served raw. I should have complained but was in a hurry to get home. Will email the Department of Transport soon, but am sure the apathy of the system will get no response no wonder the UK is a mess.

If Staff Member cared to have a look at the signage he would see that, unlike many services areas, there is no dedicated parking area for caravans. HVGs and caravans are directed to the same parking area. That's why my "wooble-box" was parked near the trucks.

May I ask why the last 'poster' parked in the lorry park with a caravan?
To me, THAT is unacceptable and should be actively discouraged. It is so inconsiderate. When a lorry driver is on the clock, the last thing they need is to be blocked in by someone towing a wobble-box, parked in the truck bays.
The truck drivers in question were also most probably urinating against their own trailer or tractor unit??? Its common practice, when you have to go, you go!

I have have stopped off at both the North & South bound services several tmes this year whilst touring with a caravan. Most recently I parked in the perimeter srction of the South bound lorry park. The area stank of urine and in fact we saw two drivers urinating on the tarmac beside their vehicles. The staining on the surface and the tell tale steams running across the parking area indicate that this is a commombn practice. This is unacceptable and absolutely disgusting. The area needs to be disinfected and the practice discouraged.

The male toilets are disgusting and makes me feel that washing my hands in there would make them dirtier! Men were washing their feet in the washbasins; why is this disgraceful activity not forcibly discouraged by the management?

Have visited regularly over the past 2 months and it's awful. the toilets are always dirty and the restaurant in very noisy. worst of all its the car parks that are a total nightmare. on entering youÃ‚Â can only Ã‚Â turn left down each row as shown by the worn out markings but at no point is there a right turn. so you either have to head for the exit our go round in the wrong direction which is either going to result in an accident or someone getting ran over. it's such a scary situation that for me the best option is to head for the exit and not stop at all. if the rumors that have arisen again about the services being rebuilt are true then I hope welcome break read some of these comments and finally get it right.

Dismayed to receive a parking fine after a sleep stop during the night (about two and a half hours). There is no pressure on space at this time, and a break for safety reasons should be encouraged. I had no idea the two hour limit would be enforced during the night. The company who oversee this, Parking Eye, say in their site that companies use them to manage parking, for example so free parking is not exceeded so that space is available for new arrivals, which is clearly not an issue at night. There should be an illuminated sign showing you are clocked in on arrival, so you can time your departure to avoid this unpleasant aspect, which is basically to catch people out, as currently operated. And further, if you do enforce a limit at night, it should be extended so that drivers may sleep enough to continue safely.

On Saturday 15th about 6:15pm I dropped my wallet in the toilets at LFE services. It was handed in (minus cash) which was a relief but I wanted to thank the young woman serving at the WH Smith desk there that evening who took my plight on and did everything she could to help, going round asking the cleaners etc. When it eventually turned up she took ownership, phoned me and returned it to me. Restoring one's faith in the good and saving me a lot of distress. WH Smith - you have a great employee!

Stopped off on the way back from Southampton, and was served by Pedro in KFC. Can I just say it was excellent service, followed all the KFC cms steps, really engaged with me and other customers. Kept me updated on my order, and didn't forget me as he served other customers. When I did receive my order, I found that the staff in middles hadn't got it right (should have been two plain mini fillets with cheese. Came with the pepper mayo and lettuce on). Pedro apologised, got them to remake my order and couldn't apologise enough for the mistake. Did feel sorry for him when whoever was in middles made out that he hadn't called out the special order....he did because if he hadn't I'd of reminded him. Welcome Break and KFC need more staff like Pedro who really do put customers first. I don't know what incentives Welcome Break have at the moment, but this young man needs to be given something as an appreciation of his great customer service skills.

I have been ringing over the last 16 hours to try and find out if my mums Handbag has been handed in at lost property? There has only been one answer and when they transferred me to the North bound area it went dead. My Mum has dementia and she is searching for her bag, there is nothing of value, but her gloves and glasses. It's important for her to get it back f, but I cannot check if it is there or not. Also went to the BP garage there and they were so helpful and went to search for it. You could do with a lost property connection, must happen a lot.

I visited Welcome Break in Leicester Forest east to meet someone for a job interview in the coffee area. I was there for less than 2.5 hours and received a fine in the post for 100 quid for overstaying the free 2 hours by 30 mins.WARNING don't stay here.

We stopped at the services this morning and met two of the most personable, efficient and pleasant staff I have ever met at a motorway service station. It was around 9am on Sunday 24th June and the lady on the till in Waitrose on northbound side was fabulous and a joy to be served by. I am sorry but i don,t recall her name, and then at the BP petrol station Raj on the till was equally friendly and helpful. Please pass on our thanks, recognition and appreciation as they both made our stop a really positive customer experience. They were both a credit to themselves and their employers.

I have just been informed to the sad news about the recent passing of Mr Tony Seaton.I would like to say how we will all sadly miss Tony Ã¢Â€Â“ Who was the Coach Coordinator from Leicester forest Services.
I always stopped at this service area, Because Tony was a real breath of fresh air. Always had a warm welcome & a smile for everyone. As well as making the coach drivers & passengers feel welcome, he had a special way of making you feel wanted at this site. In fact Tony was the Ã¢Â€ÂœWelcomeÃ¢Â€Â in Welcome Break.He hepled me on so many occasions, even over the phone, when I had a problem with any other Service site, failing to comply with the coach drivers meal deal or just not doing the job properly. He was a fantastic representative of your company. Some sort of plaque should be put up, in remembrance.
I am just sorry I missed his funeral, and or the chance to send him a card when he was in hospital. But I know he will forgive me, & will be waiting at the big coach park (with his wonderful wife), to welcome us all with that big smile, when our turn comes.
Untill then I will always think of my mate Tony, when ever I stop or just pass by Leicester Forest. So will a lot of musicians who were amazed by this great guy. Many of them said he was a star! They were right.
TONY SEATON you were a star & our top man, it was a privalage & a pleasure to have known you. RIP.
Please forward our condolences to TonyÃ¢Â€Â™s friends & family.

Either someone has read all the previous posts..or something has changed because this is now one of the best service stations on the M1. The bridge over the top is a huge Starbucks which is very pleasant. It also has Waitrose, which is handy by the Starbucks is very busy and a nice environment. We used the toilets and they were actually very clean - nothing different from other service stations. same with the shops etc...pretty standard. Our family does the London to Manchester journey regularly and we always stop here. They have definitely improved.

Just wanna agree with all the other negative but very true comments by others, toilets were disgusting!!!! and park there for longer than two hours and you have had it i brought a ticket for my car, which when returning to my car thought nothing of it, however that week recieved a parking for quite alot more, will never return again and also warn friends of this situation there!!!

I dont normally make comments on these sites but I shall make an exception in this case. We were driving back from holiday in USA and called in for a coffee and 'rest stop'.The male toilets were frankly disgusting - stunk of urine, hadn't been cleaned properly and the splashbacks were streaked - basically, hadnt been cleaned properly for ages.Suggest clean them frequently and use disinfectant - its not difficult to have standards - honest.

my family and i stopped here during the bilding works and decided to see the results and wow what a transformation. the site is bright and airey. the new look gameszone on the northbound looks fantastic. waitrose had a good selection and starbucks is amazing. when we stopped the site was busy but not a mess as has been suggested. i have never seen a cleaner site

We were shocked to read the negative reviews on this site about Leicester service station as we've always found it a pleasant stopping off point on a long journey. We arrived on a quiet Monday night to groups of males sitting outside in the 'picnic' area drinking cans of what looked, suspiciously, like beer. The toilets, in which two out of nine sinks were out of order, smelled of a combination of human excrement and Lynx Africa, and the gravy I got to accompany my KFC chicken meal was burnt. We did though manage to scoop a window seat in the dining area, overlooking the M1 as the sun was setting: what could have been the perfect end to an otherwise perfect romantic weekend away. We found the station, overall, utterly unworthy of the two-out-of-five burger rating awarded on this site and needless to say will not be welcoming any kind if break there again.

Called in 19th July at about 2pm heading North. I use motorway services a lot and without doubt this was my worst ever experience.
It's a "given" that the hot food will be unmentionable and inedible and the staff de-motivated or incomprehensible so I stick to pre-packaged food. However, although the eating area wasn't especially busy, it was impossible to find an available table. Tables hadn't been cleared, there was leftover food and packaging on tables, chips and other food over the floor. Didn't appear to be any/ enough staff available. It was disgraceful, depressing and made me ashamed to be British.
When are Welcome Breaks going to sort themselves out. Although not brilliant, Road chef and Moto are way ahead of this lot.
Isn't it about time someone like Jamie Oliver got involved and shamed them all into improving food and hygeine standards

Got to be the most disgusting services that ever stopped at, and believe me I have stopped at many, UK & Abroad. These services make you feel ashamed to be British. Toilets were disgustlingly filthy. And to have 'Baby Changing in Disabled Tolilet is absurd! How on earth are disabled people supposed to relieve themselves if toilet is occupied by Mum/Dad changing Soiled nappy. Disabled people deserve much more than stench of soiled nappies. These services definitely need an overall!

Filthy, filthy, filthy. I cannot understand why LFE has any good reviews at all! The smell of the toilets hits you as soon as you open the door, the toliets would not look out of place in the film Trainspotting. Frankly, I couldn't care less how good the 'Kentucky Fried Chicken' restaurant is, but I suppose that if your idea of good dining is fried reconstituted chicken guts then you would find the toliets there quite homely.Bring on Marks & Spencer and their lovely fruit and Salmon sandwiches.

LFE is the best services on the motorways i go to this services nearly everyday on my daily commute and on my journey there are 3 other service stations none of them compare, they have probably the best KFC experience and although the toilets are not great there no worse than other public ones and it is a very old building

The staff are unprofessional and you can't find a clean table to sit at. We were a school party of 44 students and 4 staff and stopped here on our way back from a ski trip to Colorado, USA via Heathrow airport to N Yorks. I have to say thet the "long-drop" toilets somewhere up the mountain in the middle of nowhere were cleaner and far more pleasant experience than the ones here. At the Burger King I was shortchanged by Ã‚Â£10 but two managers and a till check could not rectify the situation. A promise to contact me never materialised not even after another call to them a few days later. Incidentally they never answer the phone unless you are incredibly lucky - it took twelve attempts (my phone bill will confirm this). This visit does nothing to make me want to use Motorway Services ever again

As a resident of Leicester, I regularly stop here when travelling on the M1 near home or just for lunch. And I can say it's a fantastic service station and definitly one of the best in the country! It's got 2 seperate car parks (northbound and southbound) which are very spacious and always easy to find a space, but both sides share the same facilities, which is a brilliant idea. The food is lovely and service at the fast food outlets is great. There's also the option of a self-service cafe if you don't want to be served. Also, eating on the bridge above the motorway is an thrilling, one of a kind experience. I shall be really sad when these beautiful services close.

I cannot possibly agree with the comment of "Anonymous - 1st Jan 2006" (and others who have slagged-off this really nice resting place) - which was : 'worst in the world'. Our annonymous friend doesn't say what time of day 'all the people around' were waiting 2 hours. If it was mid-night, or some other un-Godly hour, then what does any one expect?
I used these services regularly on my trips to Yorkshire from London between February and July 2008 and never failed to get a very good meal there - and not that junk food rubbish either. Only once did I experience poor service and that was when the cold drinks machine dispensed water instead of Sprite. I got a full refund - no problem.
I never failed to get a satisfactory parking spot, either, and never hit anyone's car or ran over any pedestrians on my way out, and as for the toilets are concerned - please do not blame the staff for any mess left behind by the low life clientelle they could have done without.
I will remember these services with great fondness.

on the south bond the male toilets are in a filthy state the seats are loose or broken the smell is horrible there is urine all on the floor it is not very nice never heard of air freshner and a mop and some of the toilets were blocked with loads of paper from the man in the van

Used this service station to do a "half way pick-up" of elderly relatives. The services are OK but very noisy, and the ladies had a bit of a queue on a busy Saturday in August. The restaurant is upstairs - there is an escalator up and a lift in which, bizarrely, you have to keep the "down" or "up" button pressed throughout the ride.The fact that there's separate access from each direction is a pain if you're picking up/dropping off - although I've not been, the Markfield site a few miles north would probably be a better bet.

Northbound, keep your wits about you! No road markings poor signage and plenty of potholes. The car park is a lottery with numerous blind spots, particularly around the one exit which is also an entrance! and a pedestrian crossing! Only stop if you have to, you'll be glad to be back on the M1 after stopping here -maybe that's the point.
