KFC West side is awful and I mean consistently awful. Im a Trucker and have been forced to buy KFC there a few times and I've either had vomiting in the night after eating there or its just plain awful dry and over cooked and sometimes tasting of soap or detergent. And they don't like complaints

Poor service for people who break down and have to wait three hours for road side assistance. ParkingEye have tried to charge for overstay without trying to find out reason- we broke down on motorway and came off on to the service station. We called the RAC for assistance and they were brilliant but could not get to us for at least three hours. When their contractor (west Borne Motors) did arrive they could not re[pair the car so towed us home. Parking Eye ( agents for Welcome Break) are trying to bill us for Â£100 even though we have sent them evidence, supplied by the RAC that we had broken down. Maybe Welcome Break should speak to Parking Eye and get to them to take breakdowns more seriously and not see them as cash cows.

....my son and his mother were taken ill at exactly the same time with food poisoning last night. The only food they shared yesterday was a chicken burger at the KFC in Membury services approximately 4 hours earlier. My son finished her chicken burger for her. Much vomiting and dihorreah insued for the following 12 hrs.

Stopped in heading eastbound. Server at the subway was wearing gloves but dipping in and out of meats, cheese and vegetables, cross contaminating everything. Will be reporting to local authority for breach of health and hygiene.

Disaster. Stopped eastbound at around 7.30pm sunday night. Found Burger King and Colonel Sanders but not what we wanted which was a sit down snack and cup of tea. Totally unable to find any access to Eat In - has it closed?. Coffee from machines was Â£2.85 for a paper cup.

Dreadful experience at the East bound station. Food service is on an upper floor up a flight of stairs and badly signposted. There was no heating on a January Sunday morning so I couldn't sit and relax plus the coffee was tepid before it hit the cup. The ladies toilets smelt disgusting and the floor was filthy let alone the toilets themselves. Even the parking spaces are mean and the road layout to get petrol and leave is annoying. There are service stations not too far away both before and after Membury so unless someone in the car is being sick or the car has a fault, don't plan to stop at this one!! I certainly won't.

Ladies toilets were disgusting, KFC was awful, couldn't finish the food and the tea was undrinkable. Miserable cow in WHS wouldn't serve cigarettes to my 19yo or then to myself as i was buying them for him. Ruined our road trip. Will not be stopping there again. Shocking.

Called in today to get some food and visit the loo. The Ladies toilets are a complete disgrace. The majority of 15 or so loos were not flushing and a few were missing their seats, some seats were broken. A hot tap was running continuously. The sign outside saying how long ago the toilets were attended to was switched off (at least that was the honest way to deal with it!). The Manager was nowhere in sight. I will try and contact them to advise them of this disgusting state, but found this website while I was looking..

I have visited Membury services on M4 Sunday 05/10/2014. I was shocked to see the state of Ladies toilets. There was not a single cubical which would have been functional and clean. It was very very unpleasant experience. The toilets were so dirty that it was not hygienic to use them. I was considering complaining to local Environmental health office as I do believe that these are not fit for purpose and have not seen anything like it traveling through different countries.

Membury Eastbound services- the ladies toilets are a disgrace:Nasty smell as you wait in a long queue (several people commented); several toilets without locks; toilets without toilet paper; several taps that are continually running with water.No acknowledgement of when the toilets were cleaned or indeed when they would next be cleaned, even though the notice stated they would be inspected every 45 mins. No telephone number in order to register a complaint. I waited 10 mins to speak to the manager ,who was over on the other site, but I could wait no longer! Approx 6.45pm

Membury Services are not! They are rather disappointing & most of the time we avoid them. In mid to late evening the only place to buy food is sandwiches from Smiths if they have any left. My husband passes most weeks westbound from Heathrow & Waitrose is always shut. We called in again (why?) on Sat evening 8th March before 7pm & Waitrose was shut - I think the sign says open from 7am to 10pm? Waitrose get your act together! We went on to Leigh Delamare where M&S was open, welcoming & fully stocked!

Awful Experience and a complete rip off!! 3 of us stopped there about 9.30 am looking for a nice breakfast as Burger King was closed. We ate at Eat In 3 breakfast's with drinks Ã‚Â£28.35, outrageous price, but wouldn't of minded so much if it hadn't tasted so terrible, cheap fried sausages, overdone egg, cold beans, extremely disapointing and wont be stopping there again!!Be sure to leave there hungry as food so horrible!

Pulled into the car park at 10.10pm for a bite to eat after a long day with a lot of driving. Was appalled to find KFC & Burger King closed, Eat In deserted (with no sign of hot food) and the shutters down at Waitrose. Couldn't even get a sandwich at Starbucks as I was told they were closed too. Had to settle for an evening meal of crisps and a doughnut from WH Smith.
It's a Saturday night in February - not Christmas!
Useless. This motorway services might as well be replaced with a vending machine and a bush to pee behind.

three of us stopped here at 7,30 am on 4/2/2014 and had full english breakfasts which took 15 minutes to dish up as there was only one person on duty and cost over Ã‚Â£37 it was over cooked, over priced , and stone cold , it was disgusting .best to avoid this service station at all cost.

I have a new contender for the worst motorway service station in UK and possibly the world. I was unfortunate to visit Membury Services on the M4 at 10:30p.m. on November 13th 2013. It was cleaning time and shifts were changing. Everything felt grubby and most of the outlets including the coffee shop were shut. We decided on toasties, soup and coffee which we bought from Eatin South. I was served by a pleasant gentleman from India or Pakistan. (I do not mean this to be disrespectful).I tasted my large filter coffee, and it has to be the worst stewed tasteless brew I have ever come across. I returned to the counter with a grin and said Ã¢Â€ÂœCongratulations, I believe this is the worst cup of coffee I have ever tastedÃ¢Â€Â. The reply was a classic. With that characteristic shake of the head, that only people from the Indian subcontinent can do, he says Ã¢Â€ÂœThank you very much SirÃ¢Â€ÂBut the man was a star. He went on to explain he only gave me filter coffee because I asked for it. In fact an Americano from his machine was much better. He swapped them over free of charge. At the end of this unpleasant culinary experience, I went back to thank him and say goodbye, but by then he was asleep on the floor behind the counter and others had taken over.I would avoid Membury and go on to the next service station next time.

We recently stopped at Membury Services, Eastbouind, for coffee and a toilet break. For the first time I had a wheel chair bound passenger with us and only remembered that the eating area was up escalators when stood by W H Smiths. We searched for a sign indicating a lift but to no avail. Having pushed the chair passed the toilets we found a door which indicated there was a lift behind it. It was smelly and we felt like merchandise rather than Customers who were going to be overcharged for average quality drinks. I do not feel that a wheelchair should be pushed through an area where the drinks etc were being served! There are already plenty of negative comments regarding the toilets and cannot add any comments to say they have improved. I do not think 'Welcome Break' is an apt name for this site - sorry

I cannot recommend this site for families or business users who may wish to take a well deserved break from the road, or to meet colleagues and friends. Stay a shade over 2 hours and you will be slapped with a Ã‚Â£100 fine in the post.

Quite the filthiest toilets I have come across in a long time. Were there yesterday morning at 7.30. I examined 7 cubicles before I found one that was 'clean' enouht to use. Don't think they've heard of bleach, the toilet pans were very stained, soiled and smelly! Will not be stopping there again. Disgusting ! August 4th 2013

I've stopped here twice now and it gets the prize for most disgusting toilets anywhere. Most of the cubicles were unusable (I won't go in to details) and two urinals were blocked. Terrible place.

On 7 April 2010 I was so appalled at the facilities for disabled (particularly wheelchair user) people I wrote a comment here. The situation at Membury has, if anything deteriorated. The same damaged seat is on the ladies disabled toilet and there is still no disabled arm handle. The lift to upstairs where the restaurant is was out of order and so no way of getting my mother and her wheelchair to the restaurant.My mother had to use the toilet but we left as soon as possible afterwards and, reading others comments along with our own experience, I'm glad we did.

Toilets are a complete disgrace, the smell was so bad I was nearly sick. Sister in law changed a nappy in the ladies which smelt the same but with toilet paper falling out the bin. We all joke about the French service stops. But this one wins for the worst service station. Other posts earlier this year complain of the same issues! Looks like they just don't care.

to all of you that have been "fined", ONLY the police or the council can issue a fine, all other issue a parking charge, this is only enforcable by the civil courts, if you dont pay,m there is very little they can do, apart from take you to a small claims court, and many dont bother because of the hassle, instead they will just send threatening letters, just file them in the bin, in most cases, the "fine" will be dropped

I will never stop at this Motorway station again or any other.I was charged 45 pounds for a 3 hour stay in the small hours when there were 3 cars present in the whole Service Station.Sneak cameras do the dirty deed for this extortion.In the UK be very aware who's property you are on and look for any cameras - private entities like Motorways services seem to have the right to fine you at will.
At best treat Motorway Servies as a car park with aggressive parking attendants everywhere.
No worries - over the lifetime i will get even.
The only thing these people understand is extorting money - and the only answer is to deny them any further business.

We were a party of 102 people, 94 pupils and 8 adults. We arrived in the deep snow and the Manager Colin was extremely helpful and accomodating as we were not sure whether we were able to travel any further.I thoroughly recommend this services as it is so well run.
It was heartening to have professionals managing the services who were able to assist us in circumstances such as this.
I would recommend a stop at this services.

I went to the new and separate Starbucks at Membury for a coffee with a friend. I was sent a Ã‚Â£100 fine for having over stayed my welcome. So now chatting for too long is a crime. Perhaps if I had gone into the services themselves I might have seen the signs but between where I parked and the building there were none nor any ticket machines.I have paid my fine but I will NEVER stop there again in fact I will boycott all services and of course Starbucks too. It is all I can do and of course warn others.

I stopped at the Westbound Services on the 18th October 2012 at around 6.30-7pm, and eat a cheeseburger from Burger King. A few hours later I started to feel ill, and then from about 9.30-10pm yesterday I have been violently sick multiple times with stomach cramps.
I hadn't eaten anything for about 9 hrs before this visit, so I am 100% sure it was Burger King that poisoned me. I will be contacting Food Standards.
AVOID this Services like the PLAGUE!

My partner and I stopped to get something to eat at this service station whilst travelling yesterday. Today my partner is quite poorly with food poisoning due to undercooked food from their Burger King. We would have taken it back to complain at the time, but as we chose to eat on the hoof, it was not noticed until we were out of the services. Please ensure you make sure your food is properly cooked before heading off and if in any doubt, return it!! I chose a panini from a different section and was very disappointed when it came back barely tepid and certainly nowhere near toasted, this too ended up in the trash with the aforementioned burger. Burger King will also be receiving my comments regarding this issue in hopes they can ensure staff are monitored and if required, re-trained!

Just wanted to give my heartfelt thanks to 'Phil' from Waitrose within the Services. Visited the services on Saturday 8th September to purchase some John Lewis vouchers (which they do not stock). Phil went out of his way to resolve the issue and find something more alternative to give to our friends on their wedding day. A lovley crisp Ã‚Â£50 note (as cashback!).

Visiting late evening travelling from London to Cardiff I needed the use the baby change facilities for my 2 week old baby.The facility was appalling; dirty and smelly with overflowing bins. The attendant send cleaning the baby change room was not his job and the nappy bins were only changed once a week.I was horrified and the next day sent a complaint direct to Welcome break about this disgusting facility that I found too disgusting to use. I have not yet heard anything back. I will avoid Welcome break "service" areas in future.

Stopped here as it lists there is a free cash point in the main building. It wasn't free - it charged me Ã‚Â£1.95, which is common elsewhere, but I asked for a receipt and it didn't give me one. If you are going to charge for a service you should at least deliver what the customer has asked for!

When entering the Westbound side towing a caravan, the first sign directs caravans to the left. After this there are no further signs and so caravanners are lost and have to park across car bays.On leaving the car park, the second sign directs caravans left into the HGV area?The first sign should surely direct caravans to go straight on.Very confusing.

when i was going back to bristol, i stopped at membury and went to the men`s toilents . they were relly clean and i went out and found esuctaltions going upstairs!!!!!! i was wow by that, lots of shops to chose from like waittore and whsmith. lot bigger than michealwoods. carpark was a bit hard to get out of because a man stopped us to let lorries past. When going Swindon, bath , bristol or walse from london or reading always stop here !!!!!!!!!!!

As a Coah Driver I will not bring passengers into this very very poorly run service station again.With two coaches in the parking bays the staff were to be in polite terms, third rate. No urgency, with dinners cold before being served.Very honestly looked like a stafff were on a go slow'. This is the very slowest customer service station, that I will advise my colleagues not to use at all costs.I have also posted a comment on 'Coach Drivers Club', avoid at all costs.MOTO are rubbish, but better than Membury.For the Manager. The website says that parking is Ã‚Â£8 and includes a Ã‚Â£2 meal voucher. In fact, parking is now Ã‚Â£10 with no voucher. The website should be updated as a matter of urgency.
Even when you get there, the breakfast bap is advertised as your four favourite items in a bap, but I was told that black pudding was 99p extra.
Please advise the owners that they can rip off the public for a time, but if they want to stay in business, honesty and fair play is important. I shall not return

My husband went into the Men's Toilets at this service station yesterday (26 September) on our way home from Wales. When he got to the car he was "green" and said the toilets were disgusting to say the least, it made him gag!! I am appalled by this, as these services are for motorists, and you do not go into them expecting to pick up a virus. I was so angry I was going to complain to the Health and Safety Standards. I would like your assurance that these toilets are cleaned every single day, not like the one my husband visited yesterday, he said the filth and smell were "second to none" and needed to be fumigated to get them back to a reasonable standard. Please don't say it is the way people use toilets, we all know that, but to be filthy and unhygenic is unacceptable!

Stopped at the eastbound area to go to Waitrose which is on the westbound. This website says the two sides are connected by a pedestrian bridge. This is true, but there are no signs to it and it's more than a little terrifying to walk across the bridge with the traffic thundering by underneath you. The path is not very well kept and mossy. It's really not very good at all, so be aware of this. Entrance to the path and bridge is from the truckers parking area on each side. The fence at the side of the bridge as you walk across is not very high - I would be anxious about children on this bridge.

I am writing with regard to the BP petrol service station attached to the service area at Membury on the M4 Eastbound. On 4/9/11 I was travelling back home from Ireland with my family and I had driven some 475 miles since 8.00am the previous morning and we stopped at the BP service area so I could get a coffee and some fuel.I paid for these items in cash but unfortunately in my state of tiredness I left an envelope carring about Ã‚Â£300 in cash on the counter when I left the shop. Upon realising that I had lost the cash the following morning and having searched the house and car I rang the service area and spoke to Sue the manager who was most helpful. She checked the CCTV and saw that I had left the cash on the counter and she then rang me back later to say that the money was safe because the night cashier had found it and had handed it in the following morning. I was most impressed by this honesty (I had not really held out much hope of seeing my cash again) and I returned later that day to collect it. Sue even stayed on a little while after her shift had finished so that she could hand it to me in person. I would therefore like to thank Sue and the cashier for being so honest and helpful in returning my cash. This show of honesty and helpfulness by the staff at the BP petrol station has really impressed me and restored my faith in human nature. Thank you once all once again.

Stopped recently at the eastbound Membury services. May I suggest that the litter bins in the car parking area are fitted with lids. The rooks were having a great time pulling out the rubbish looking for food and making a dreadful mess! Gave a very poor impression of the car parking area. Presumably, staff time is then devoted to sweeping it all up.

What a filthy disgusting hovel Membury is! We have said for years why do we stop here, after today we will never stop again. Too many staff who do not undertand English, tepid food from KFC, and filth and grime everywhere. Its about time this place was cleaned properly. Any other establishment serving food would have to make sure that ALL areas are clean including the window sills, frames and windows. Somebody sort it out for healths sake!

What happened to the services on 28 December 2010 in the late evening? Was there a power failure? We broke down and were towed there by a recovery truck and left in the pitch black with no lights at all. I think it is then that you realise how unsafe the car parking areas are and we did not leave our car at all. I would not recommend these services purely on the grounds of the experience that I had and how unsafe and vulnerable we felt.

Visited Eastbound on 29 Dec 2010. Looked like toilets had been renovated relatively recently and did the job, though somewhat wet underfoot.Hand dryers in toilets plentiful but underpowered - vote Dyson airblade for 2011! Smiths was fine - friendly service from the youthful staff (and both first and surnames were provided on their helpful and comprehensive badges). Smiths was, though, extremely overpriced as ever. Starbucks a great improvement on Primo, which I always felt was a little dubious.

I want to congratulate the staff of the Starbucks team on the Westbound side. Whether in the Primo days or now in Starbucks the team have consistently made my journey more pleasant whenever I call in (every ten days or so). Their efficiency under pressure (they never seem to have a quiet moment), their energy, good humour and customer care is truly impressive. Many other business teams could learn from these kind and talented young women. A complaint? Yes. I wanted to leave a Christmas tip and was told it was not allowed. Well if I can't leave one, then please give them the big bonus they deserve!

I am not surprised at the comments left on here. This place was a typical WelcomeBreak service station, dirty and expensive. Ms Douthwait, are you a Daily Mail reader by any chance? As a male, should I also be offended by the signs up saying that the male toilets are cleaned by a female attendant? Should we not also tut loudly when mothers take their sons into the toilet, or fathers take their daughters into the toilets? Of course, I am a male and do not know about the methods of how females go to the toilet, but the common practice for males is (urinals aside as I know these do not exist in female toilets) to lock themselves into the cubicle before undressing, thereby removing any possibility for embarassment. How do you know that these staff are not CRB checked?
I do feel sorry for you actually. Not because you feel this way, but because I do understand what you are trying to say, yet know that because of the rather hysterical way you have said it, you will be taken as a complete lunatic. Most sex crimes are committed by family members or close friends, and (believe it or not) there are a surprisingly large proportion of sex crimes committed by adult females against child females.
Anyway, with that rant over, I quite like Membury Services Westbound, I like the view, have always had friendly service (though I've usually been there quite late) and my little girl (whom I do take into the toilets and of whom I have not, nor will ever, molest) likes the fact that there's an escalator there.

I visited membury for a wash and brush up while travelling to Wales. I was disgusted to find a sign warning there was a male cleaner in the female toilets without giving times he would be in there so women who are not comfortable to use a toilet with a man in there could choose to use it without him there. How can we keep little girls safe form perverts if they grow up thinking it is normal for men to be in female toilets? Equality is about respect for privacy, dignity and basic human rights and by law a woman has a right to object to the presence of a man where she is likely to be undressed or using a toilet (and vice versa for men) because it is demeaning aand humiliating. This is unsafe practice which could result in a child (under 16yrs) being alone with a man (not even CRB checked) in a female enclosure. They are using permanent warning signs to deceptively gain your consent for a man to hsave unrestricted access to female facilities. Also the disabled facilities are situated in the single sex areas making it difficult for opposite sex carers to assist yet leaving disabled users at risk of intrusion by opposite sex workers if they require help.The toilets were poorly maintained with gaps and broken locks and not even clean. Women beware and make sure you tell a member of staff that you object to using a female toilet with a male cleaner there because their dubious practice relies on women putiing up with this harassment. Many women do not know they have a right to object without being accused of discrimination and employers can only get away with this if we do not voice our objections. Most crimes are committed by men against women and children, we all want clean toilets but not at the cost of legalising voyeurism, paedophilia and other perversions.

i visited membury service station last friday with my two kids i got Ã‚Â£10 of petrol fat pump 14, only to be charged Ã‚Â£56.24.!!!!cause i didnt have my glasses on at the time, i told the cashier what pump id used, so i didnt look at the total on the till untill it was too late..yh we all know mistakes are made and the cashier was very sorry, he gave me a reciept, and said my money will be back in my account within 3 days....im its now friday again iv still not had my money back, iv e-mailed customer services, iv phoned them, no answer. im a single parent, living on benifits my yougestson is disabled and i need my money, and i still had to pay the Ã‚Â£10 for my petrol

Membury westbound on 17 July 10. Scruffy disinterested staff and restaurant. My cup of tea was 1.99 and vile. I sat on the balcony with litter blowing around my feet and ate a pleasant prawn sandwich. Shame to have spoiled the almost uniformly disgusting customer experience with a decent sandwich.

I stopped at these services on 2nd April with my mother who is a wheelchair user and needs to use the disabled toilet facilities. There was no drop down bar in the ladies disabled toilet making it unsafe for my mother to use. The bar was broken when I last visited this services with my mother at Christmas time, now it appears it has been removed an not replaced. The disabled toilet outside the male toilets was very smelly and I needed to clean the whole of the toilet area before I would let my mother use it. This is totally unacceptable. I have to say that the ladies toilets were in an equally filthy state and had appeared to not have been cleaned at all or at least adequately for some time.

I have always thought of Membury Services a nice pleasant place for my passengers to call into. How much i have been mistaken by my visit on Saturday 6th Feb. The staff member who would only reluctently give her name as lyn was rude, aggressive, and most unhelpfull. Also in filling out some paperwork refused to give me a copy till i pleaded for my copy, this was thrown at me, told to fill it in myself, i refused, then she signed it as manager, but on questioning she is not. This is keeping it in simple terms, but my passengers on coach, or private hire cars wont be taken into membury west untill i get a written apology.

What a terrible, plastic hole. Especially awful in the summer, where the only outside seating area is a small concrete balcony hanging off the back.
I saw a family trying to perch on the grass hill at the front without much success, but it was still probably better than being inside.

The ladies tiolet was disgusting, it was had to find one tiolet that was not over flowing, there was no soap in the dispencers and only one handdryer seemed to be working and the floor was grimy. I was talking to someone who used this service in June, she said it was the same then. Now I know we dont use this service station that often about 6 times a year, but it needs to be alot cleaner than it is.It used to be the best one on that motorway, now I can say it must be the worst.

Membury is the service station of school trips and airport runs, It therefore holds a special place in my heart. I have never had a disapponting visit and therefore proclaim it my second favourite service station in the country after Fleet, which only wins on account of the walkway over the motorway.

I accidentally left my shoulder bag containing credit cards, camera, PDA etc on the East bound restaurant patio area of Membury Services. About 2 hours and 102 miles later I realised what I had done and phoned Membury. Not only did they have my bag, but the restaurant manager, Lee, treated me to some welcome refreshment when I returned later that evening. Membury will now always have positive memories for me!

I found having coffee on the terrace at Membury delightful - there was a wonderful view over their wildlife area, and being able to walk into that area was very refreshing.

As tutor incharge of a coach load of 50 students aged between 15 35. we called into your services on return from a trip to London, only to find the public conviencences to be in an appaling state unclean, smelly, As for the Burger King franchise some of my students aged 15-16 had to queue up for 35 mins only to be told that they would not be served as the till had broken down, even though there was an adjoining till being used, they were told if they wanted food they would have to join the back of that queue.who had only been queuing for 5 mins.I feel if the customer had been older this incident would of been handled differently.

At 7:30am I bought a croissant (to take away) from Coffee Primo, which cost me an astounding Â£2.30 (bear in mind I am used to London prices). Whilst continuing my journey I tucked into the Â£2.30 croissant only to find it was stale!

My wife and I used these services east bound on 28 December 06 and west bound on the 29 December 06. We used the restaurant and toilets on both occasions. The carpeted area under the tables was dirty and had not been vacuumed for days. The toilets particularly on the 29 December were extremely unpleasant and smelly with the odour from the mens toilet escaping into the public areas. Truly a disgusting situation which needs to be put right now. The coach party of 50 people all remarked on how they would avoid these sevices in future.
