Plus you forgot to mention that to leave the caravan parking area the access road is so narrow you scratch the side of the van and the easiest way to leave that area is to go out through the entrance as the roadway is wider and safer.... Yvonne

The figure of Â£150 is pure extortion. I have just found out the extended parking fee is Â£10 so where do they come up with this figure. I would have paid the parking fee at the time HAD I KNOWN ABOUT IT. It certainly wasn't clearly signposted where a wheelchair user would see it either. I can half understand at busy periods or for overnight stops in lorries but not for 18 minutes over the time after spending over Â£120 just adds insult to injury......NEVER AGAIN Michaelwood (Highway Robbery). I will never stop at a motorway service area again. I would also like to know why some people are being charged Â£100 and I am being penalised for Â£150 is it because I have a 'Blue Badge?' and someone somewhere resents the disabled and their problems. Michaelwood Services you should be ashamed. British Government you too should be ashamed for condoning this unfair and unreasonable demands for money. Shut the place down.

I got a demand for Â£150 for staying over the time by a few minutes on a virtually deserted car park. I am disabled and having to attend to my essential needs takes far longer than the norm. I also bought a meal, some snacks for the journey and filled my fuel tank. Disgusting attitude from the 'Private Parking Eye Company who have no regard to difficulties some people have. Won't ever stop here again. In fact this entrapment is a disgrace...STOP if you're feeling tired - Not on your life. You are targetted and timed for using the place. NEVER AGAIN....NEVER! The government should be clamping down on this type of scam and robbery from people stopping for safe driving purposes or essential comfort breaks. Appalling Practice.
Stopped here twice, most recently on new years eve coming back from Gloucester. Staff in both the Waitrose (northbound) and the Burger King (southbound) were very friendly, and the food I purchased from the Burger King was much to my satisfaction. No comment on the toilets as I did not use them.

Having just left Michael Wood services (North) vowing NEVER to return!! The place is filthy. I could understand it if it was a busy Saturday afternoon but it is Monday and it was quiet. The tables were dirty, the bins were over-flowing and the counter at Burger King was appalling - covered with dirty cups, used straws and sticky drinks and the staff would benefit in some customer service training! There is a total lack of moral. The only positives were that the toilets were clean and the lady at Papa Johns was helpful and friendly.

It's disgusting as it's supposed to be a second break cheers from the police for the advice and you get charged for parking even though I spent Â£26.00 ...! Having been a regular caller to both service area's over the last 8 weeks or so I must comment on the state of the car parking area's, disgusting is putting it mildly!!!! Mess all over the floor when I step out of my vehicle and it has not got any better over the week's so. I now use Gloucester on north bound journey's, A much cleaner and more inviting service area,Michaelwood,I award you-100 out of 10 for your uninviting car/van parking area's!!!When the southbound Gloucester service open's in the spring this will be my stop off point.

Arranged to meet important clients at the south bound services using the post code that is on the internet.GL11 6DDEnded up at a farm that has the same post code to find that I should be using is GL13 9JS, which I would have found if I had typed in Days Inn motel!Fortunately, my clients also ended up at the farm, did not look professional though and could not get anyone to answer at customer services when I rang!

I don't know who reads these but someone should know. I'm a current member of the armed forces and is based in Yeovil in Somerset. On Sunday the 27th October I was driving down from Manchester I got stuck in major traffic on the m6 near Stafford which caused nearly four hours on my journey. When the traffic cleared the time was getting late and I started to feel tired so I pulled into Michael woods services at half one in the morning and parked in a empty car park to shut my eyes for a few hours. I slept for two and a half hours then carried on my journey back to camp. Today in the post I have received a fine for Ã‚Â£100 pounds. Surly the rules should be different at night or you will have people falling asleep at the wheel??

I visited Michaelwood services on Friday 31st October travelling North, and it was the most awful experience! I wanted to collect a Takeaway KFC lunch and so walked over the bridge to get it. There were some very confusing signs to KFC but I eventually found the door, not easy and that back area where one enters from the northbound side was dirty and not in anyway inviting. I left and went on to the next Services up the M5.You should be ashamed of that whole site it is a disgrace, what tourists from abroad must think I dread to think.

We stopped at MichaelWood M5 northbound with a 4 month old baby.The Our services were understaffed with many outlets closed or under stocked. The place was absolutely filthy,generally grubby everywhere and with wrappers and old food left to fester on walls, floors, chairs, tables etc. We left as soon as possible having never experienced services in such a disgusting state and would not feel safe taking our family there.

Parking eye own the car park. I travelled with my young daughter from Wick in Scotland and had to stop due to tiredness. I feel asleep in the car while parked in the services and was charged Ã‚Â£100 pounds. Surely the point of rest stops is to allow you to stop and rest. I think this is disgusting. Would they rather you drive tired, why are these scumbags allowed to operate this kind of business!
I will never use this service station again.

Stopped in michaelwood services the other day and decided to get a full english breakfast, I got served my a lovely chap called Billy. He gave me everything I needed and even helped me to my table. The food was lovely and people there outstandingly nice. The lovely young man then brought milk over to my table. I don't know who that chap is but I'd love to thank him for what he had done and making my life so much easier with my disability. Amazing place to stop off. Staff are lovely! Would 100% recommend this service station to anyone! Brilliant.

I called in last night for petrol .My car is a BMW which is lowered for track use but manages to negotiate 99% of the UK without issues .The same cannot be said of this service station , every route I took from the car park and upon leaving the petrol station has sleeping policemen to slow motorists down except in my case they are not sleeping , they were very much awake as my car bottomed out on each and every one regardless of how I approached them or however slowly I drove over them .I suggest the powered that be should place a sign before you enter the parking zones or ,provide a marked route avoiding them .Having asked friends with sports cars they all have the same comments , so they avoid Michaelwood Services along with any others with similar obstacle courses .I wonder how they will react when receiving a bill for damage to my or other cars ?Until it's fixed I suggest all sports car owners but fuel etc elsewhere

We pulled in our car & caravan intending to pay and stay a short time. The signage advising the charge for our outfit did not mention caravans therefore we assumed it would be under the car listing. We went to pay and although we saw a rat running under the outside tables & the toilets were filthy with the sanitary bin overflowing we needed a rest. My husband went to pay and was told the charge was in the HGV bracket not cars. I do know where they got it from but a car & caravan is not a commercial vehicle and the very slight area they give you does not demand the fee of a HGV. He came out to discuss with me if we still wished to stay and when we went back in pay the very miserable and unhelpful staff member had called the security guard in for support. At this you will not be suprised we did not stay. In 2013 we paid ten pounds to stay but this year they wanted a lot more with no additional space provided. The signs need to be re-written to include caravans & the layout needs re-assessing to allow people to move safetly. We shall not be staying here again but rather pass to the next service area.

Stoped for a coffee and breakfast snack at fuel station. Went to the food counter and noted coffee machine only accessible to staff, so presumed all refreshments are staff operated, ok? No! I wait no one comes, then the till operator says I need to order and pay her. Ok so I go to the other end of the counter. Coffee and breakast pastry please. You have to help your self to the pastries bring what you have chosen to me and pay. Back to the other end choose pastries, back to the other end, pay for pasties and coffees! She then leaves the till, with punters waiting to pay for fuel and makes me 2 coffees, which yes I have to go to the other end to collect!!!I have spent my whole life in retail and hospitality but this system takes the biscuit, the cookie, the cake and the mickey!

Rough and poorly staffed.Ordered a breakfast bap. So far so good. Then had to queue at the only manned till for as long as it took for my food to go stone cold! The person on the till was trying to serve drinks as well and wouldn't even take the right money and let me through quicker - I wanted nothing else. Rubbish abounds. Generally a very run down feel. Won't be coming back in a hurry.

SERRVICE STATION..........you have to provide a service. I travelled with my family from Manchester. After a much needed rest we stopped at these services, never again. The food area was disgusting, rubbish on the floor, dirty cutlery and after being served food (eventually),by a grumpy employee who didn't seem to want to be of any assistance it was cold. I tried to attract a member of staff but they were too busy messing around. I am disgusted with the hygiene and the staff members that I feel I will have to take this matter further.

I have tried ringing at least 5 times today to ask a question about parking charges. Despite holding on for 5 minutes each time after following the instructions I did not get an answer. I dialed both Number 2 and Number 4. All I want to know is can I park for 5 days after being collected for a coach holiday and if so what is the cost.

Whoever planned the caravan parking has never owned or parked a caravan. Have you looked at the length of a caravan and a car - our unit from the front of the car to the rear of the caravan is 43'. A lot of caravans are even longer. Considering the M5 is the main motorway from the south west and a lot of caravanners stop there after driving through Bristol the parking is appalling. It is very tight to manoeuvre, there are not enough spaces and a van was spotted parking there. The caravan overflow parking seems to lead to nowhere. Many caravans ended up parking in the HGV section which often smells of urine as some of the drivers cannot be bothered to walk to the toilet. Our daughter and son in law stopped there shortly before us with their caravan and because the parking was so restricted their caravan was damaged by another caravanner struggling to park.

Everywhere is dirty, with food wrappers and dropped food left all over the floor, the walkway between services on eitherside of the motorway is a fly graveyard and is disgusting, while sat in the dining area saw a huge rat outside, think i'll drive on in future to another service station

Just ordered food for family from Burger King! Not exactly fast service. Had to return twice. Firstly as part of order was missing, secondly with an inedible wrap. Tasted like chicken was off! Received refund for wrap meal. But made me suspicious of other food, how it has been stored etc.
I will be avoiding this BK in future!

Hot breakfasts of poor quality; food was cool and put on cold plates; restaurant sitting area was freezing cold. Filter coffee was appalling - tasted as though someone hadn't cleaning the filter machine for a month. Skip this service area going south not worth stopping. Will try Gordano next time.

I don't really comment on these but I feel I have to as to stop other holiday makers experiencing what my family had to today. We went to the eat in "restaurant" to order food, it was stone cold and dried up but we could not see anyone to complain to after we had sat down,(it sounded like a kinder garden behind the staff doors, my other family member went to burger king but were still waiting to be served after 10 mins, we were told they were short staffed. After this we gave up as we went to the toilets we found that the burger king manager was outside the doors ( by the toilets ) having a cigarette. We explained to him the situation and he just shrugged his shoulders. My whole family were disgusted by the behaviour of your "management" others be warned Stay away from these services, dirty grubby food and management well what more can I say

I had the misfortune to stop at this facility to refuel after a long drive. The middle aged woman who served me was exceedingly rude. She was aggressive in her manner and waved a piece of paper under my nose which was supposedly an excuse for her outrageous behavior. Needless to say I won't be giving them my business nor my recommendation in the future.

Called in Starbucks, 12:00 noon New Year's Day 2014. The place was obviously short of staff, with litter spilling out of the recycling bins, tables un-cleared and floors in need of sweeping. The site is undergoing major building work and all of this may have been excusable on what must have been one of the busiest days of the year. But the filth and grime on the edges of the tables, the pedestals to the tables, tray rack and highchairs were absolutely disgusting. Our shoes were sticking to the floor in places. The debris, dirt and grease was ingrained and the items had not been properly cleaned for a long time, only steam-cleaning would have removed the dirt. It was nauseating to see it in front of house and one could only guess what the kitchens and food prep areas were like.

Stopped there on the northern direction and had to go to the Burger King as Papa John's was closed. After we ate our food - which they got wrong twice, we saw the Papa John guy 'hiding' in the little room off the counter. Anyway, we stopped on the southern direction a week later, hoping that the KFC would be better. Hah - it was all closed. No hot food at all anywhere - only that overpriced Costa coffee machine. We were finally able to eat some hot food at Magor Services (M4W) just after midnight. Never go there.

stopped for a meal for 2 on Thursday 2 Jan 2014 at 2pm. The seating area was disgusting nobody had bothered to clean it for days. All the tables were littered with used meals and the floor was filthy too. The food was from burger king and that left a lot to be desired. In the end we threw it away the whole atmosphere of the place was ' we don't give a damn'. I strongly recommend that you don't use this place. There is building work going on but that is no excuse for treating customers like dirt.They dont even have a 2014 in the list below... please get a grip!

Stopped for breakfast, all of the food on the counter looked like it had been there all night. The female member of staff who was supposed to be serving us appeared bored with the whole thing and more interested in talking to her friend. All a bit too much trouble to fry a couple of eggs but when the we finally got them the rest of the frankly awful food was cold not helped by putting the stuff on a cold plate to start with. Cutlery looks like it has been used in a Yuri Gellar stage show, bent almost impossible to use. Not surprisingly the breakfast was appalling but given the attitude of the staff and no apparent 'grown up' who could be loosely described as a supervisor or manager we left.
Avoid this place at all costs, it's awful.
It's clear from all the previous comments that the owners/operators don't take a blind bit of notice about how bad this place is. Maybe a call to the authorities responsible for food hygiene would make difference.

Waited to be served for a papa John no one about, so me and my family tried an alternative eat in, the fish looked like it been sat there for a couple of days as for the pie.....well,
Stood in queue at Burger king then gave up, as didn't even get our order in after 15 mins onto WHSmith the cashier agreed that the food is long standing in eat in and the staff themselves wouldn't eat it due to dirty "background scenes " so with their recommendation we left and carried on travelling until cribs causeway where we have more/fresher choice, so thankyou whsith staff we will recommend you for alternative dining.

I visited your 'services' today for food.
My first stop was the 'Eat In' counter. I found the food horrifically congealed. It had obviously been stood under the heat for hours.
The Papa John stand was completely unattended with no staff in sight.
I joined the queue for the Burger King. I waited for 35 minutes and still hadn't been served. The boy serving abandoned the counter even though there were a number of people waiting.
I asked to see the manager and was told the boy had gone on break. This meant food would be another 20 minutes at least judging by the size of the queue.
After spending 45 minutes of my day in your services I left emptyhanded and still hungry.
I am disgusted by the way you run your establishment. I will be sending a copy of this email to your head office.

Before making this comment I read other customer reviews and saw, a torrent of complaints about this southbound services station.
Welcome Break - you need to take note.
With the kind of service I received from 'Ben' on 28th August 2013, its no wonder the UK is considered to be the provider of the poorest service in Europe. I was greeted by a sullen, unhelpful chap, who to be fair had the whole of the 100yrs server to staff. He shrugged his shoulders at me when I asked a question and finally threw the change to me at the cash desk. If it was an accident, (it didn't look like it), there was no apology.
I will definitely give this service station a miss in future.
I should have been suspicious when no-one was using this facility when I arrived. They had more sense. At these prices too...........!!

We stopped here on Sat.17th Aug. 20:00 on a long trip Cornwall to Wirral for one hour. Went for a KFC had to walk accross to the bridge - when we went to sit down every free table was dirty and floor was a mess dirty and rubbish on it you need to employ some more staff here to keep the restaurant clean - I had to ask a young chap to clean the one of the tables we sat down at - it is a joke for the price of the food you pay at services it seems to be the norm in this country was not impressed would not stop here again.

My family and I used Michael Wood Services tonight, we ate at 'Eat in'. Whilst eating we were overlooking the decking area. We could see rats coming onto the decking, retrieving discarded food and taking it back to the flower borders near to the car park. We observed the rats the whole time that we were there, and from the car park. There was a lot of discarded food on the decking area which had not been cleared away, this has clearly attracted the rats.Having the rats running about near to my children, whilst they were eating is awful. Although the door from the decking to the restaurant was closed, the close proximity concerned my daughters aged 2 and 4. The lack of simple hygiene is disgraceful in public food areas and worried my daughters.

Here, you have the caravan park attached to the ordinary car park, so that when the meagre spaces are fully taken, caravans, trailers etc park in the other spaces - counted some bright souls using 4 spaces; well done! Result, little to no parking for everyone else.Why move the car park around to cramp everyone up with the truck park visibly underused on Sunday? Toilets? Seem to be less in number. I don't know how much was spent on this debacle but you have wasted your money. We will simply stop before or after now; look at Taunton Deane for how it should be done.

I arrived at Michael woods services at 6.30am on a Sunday morning, this I do on a regular basis every two weeks after driving down from Chester on route to the West Country only to find everything locked up WHY if you cannot provide 24 hour service announce it outside on the motorway not once you have parked up and got a wheelchair out.

We stopped at Michaelwood Services on our way home from Cornwall last Saturday and after using the temporary toilets decided to have a Burger King meal, I am not really a fan of fast food like this but Burger King are always better quality food than some of the others, disappointment does not describe the experience, the chips were one step up from cold, the cheese burgers were also a bit cold and did not appear to be freshly made and the top of the list was the so called onion rings, they were beyond description had I not been away what they should have been I would certainly not have taken a guess at onion rings thats for sure all this to be binned at a total cost of just under Ã‚Â£10.00 do I take it that Burger Kings hsve gone down hill fast or do I put it down to the fact that Motorway services customers are just that tired & hungary they are prepared to be ripped off and eat anyhthing!!

The Highways Agency sign approaching Michaelwood Services still has attached the sign 'No Fully Open' dating from years ago. This service area (North) has temporary toilets which are of a very poor standard. The sign Now Fully Open is in breach of the Trades Descriptions Act and should be removed immediately. The overall state of Michaelwood Services is dreadful.

The worst and most disgusting toilets I have ever used at a motorway services. Not only were the toilets in outdoor portakabins with no overhead protection from the rain and wind, so queuing with 10-15 other women in the freezing cold. Then to find half of the toilets were out of order.
Just to make matters even worse, after queueing in the cold for 10 mins, there was no toilet roll in my cubicle and the loo / floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days....not hours!!!

Had a dispute over the bill for food at the checkout. It may have been trivual but a sign clearly states that Toasted teacakes are Ã‚Â£1.00 each when ordering a drink.I ordered a filter coffee at Ã‚Â£2.15 and 2 Toasted Teacakes at Ã‚Â£1.00 which should total Ã‚Â£4.15. The bill was Ã‚Â£4.84. When disputed I was told that the deal only covered 1 Teacake with any 1 drink but the sign clearly states Ã‚Â£1.00 each (EACH) with any hot drink. I know it's only 64p but it wrong and the printed sign needs to be corrected. Please get this changed or Trading Standards will be informed

as a caravaner we have always stopped at michael wood on our return from the west country , not anymore the parking for caravaners is unsuitable and dangerous, it is almost impossible to swing round to park between other caravans and again on leaving it again is near impossible to get out without catching the caravans either side of you not enough room to swing round , i suggest that the powers that be that a car and caravan and try when its a busy time drive into the services and park in the caravan spaces. GOOD LUCK!!!

Called at the southbound Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet on 11/03/2013 @ 1.40pm. Awful quality. Two pieces of chicken, one of which was VERY tiny the larger one, still obviously smaller than the smallist in the picture display. The coating was hard, dark and dried out. Surely if you post a pic of the food, it is how the product should look that is served to you?Poor, poor, poor.

Our first stop on our coach holiday up to Yorkshire on Monday 25th February was at your service station, my friend and I were absolutely appalled to be charged Ã‚Â£4.70 for two mugs of tea(which we had to make ourselves and the water wasn't very hot)how can you justify these charges?, unfortunately we had to stop at another service station on the motorway on the way home and we were compelled to pay the same price again being the only way we could get a hot!!! drink.Two very disgruntled pensioners, aged 87 and 83.

I bought a ham and cheese toastie... it was overpriced and VERY poor quality... only half had any ham which was very thin sliced and there was hardly any cheese... I complained and was given a refund... as customers are a captive audience I feel the attitude is anything goes...

Actually enjoyed the service area and food was good as was the service. However, the toilets were poor. Most cubicles had no paper and dirty marks on toilets seats. The also smelt awful. Apparently they are checked every few hours, but who ever checked them shoud be shot ! Need to sort out the hygiene in toilets it leaves a very poor impression.

The signs and especially markings on the roads are faded and badly in need of redoing. The way to the exit is not obvious and I had a tour of the car park before finding the way out - as did two cars which left before me.

Called in at MichealWoods for some caffeine and food (around 2300) and the place was practically shut! Whilst briefly waiting outside the toilets, a security droid appeared at the far end of the main concourse trying not to be noticed (PRO-TIP: ditch the hi-vis jacket...). The constant overbearing presence of this individual did not instill me with confidence in the centre management, and halfway through self-serving two 'regular' (Ã‚Â£2.60 EACH!!) coffees I decided I would not return here again. Committed to making my purchase, I paid the clerk and left very promptly. I will not visit Micheal Woods services again, and would advise others to hold out till the next place.

We stopped here on our way from Somerset to visit relatives in Birmingham. The coffee shop was virtually empty and as we did not want to eat in Starbucks we went into the Welcome Break section. Chose 2 packs of sandwich and 2 coffees and then saw that a tea cake was only Ã‚Â£1 with a drink so decided to share one with my husband as they were enormous. One youngish girl was on the the counter and one at the till. When we went to pay by card there was no card machine on the till so we waited five minutes whilst she went in search of the machine which for some reason was behind the counter. It then did not work so she had to put all our purchases into the other till. We then went to a table and ate our sandwiches which were expensive but quite nice. When we tried to eat the tea cake it was rock hard! I took it back and the girl said "Oh I have probably cooked it too long do you want another one". I declined and asked for a refund. She had to fetch the manager who then asked for my husband's card to do a refund. As it was only Ã‚Â£1 I said don't bother but I did complain that the service was poor and the surroundings very untidy and not very clean. I doubt if we will ever stay at this services again unless desperate. The area where the empty crockery is taken was a disgrace, used items were piled up, rubbish was spilling out of the bin. The manager needs to supervise his staff and take a pride in his services. I am not surprised the premises were so little used - appalling.

After being on the motorway bumper to bumper for three hours this was the nearest service area to stop at. We had no intention of staying two hours. The car broke down and we had to get membership with the AA and wait for them to arrive. We had no idea about the parking restrictions being too concerned about whether we would be getting home. It came as a suprise when we received the parking charge notice. Now taking legal advice because I believe this is not a legal document. It is not a penalty charge and is likely not be be enforceable. At the very least they can only request reimbursement for the time over the two hours that we were there. I suggest that others also take legal advice as I think people are and have been ripped off by this private car park company. October 2012

Stopped here overnight on the way back from Cornwall to the midlands (NB) the caravan parking spots are newly surfaced and easy to find but unfortunately they are right next to the carriageway. We all slept eventually for a couple of hours but the noise was incessant, I paid the extra for a food voucher so at about 7am we ventured in for a freshen up and breakfast. The building is quite welcoming from the outside but the inside is filthy, the restaurant we ate in could do with a really deep clean. Staff were cheerful although for a Saturday morning there were only 2 on duty so they were busy.

Attempted to pull in Northbound with caravan on way back from holiday in Devon. All caravan bays (what were there!)were taken, so attempted to find 'alternative caravan' parking as signposted.Drove past HGV parking (no way suitable for caravans!) but couldn't find 'alternative parking' so carried on to exit & further down M5 to Strensham Services. MUCH better facilities for Caravans!! So,sorry Michaelwood, but you will not get our custom in future unless you improve caravan facilities!.(P.S - Website is so out of date it only goes up to year 2010! we visited on 19th Sept 2012.Says it all really!!)

We have used Michael Woods for 30 years as a half way stop off point on our journey from Leeds to Cornwall for our holidays. After a gap of 3 years we called in at the end of August on our way to Cornwall for a well earned long holiday after much ill health. At 4am after a 5 hour journey we needed toilets, a rest and something to eat. Everything had changed!! In the dark we were trying to find where to park our car and caravan and were desparately looking at the road markings. We were directed to about half a dozen spaces making you park facing the way you came in, miles away from the facilities. In the dark we did not see any parking notices relating to charges. As a registered disabled person, the trek to the facilities was killing and it took me ages to get there and back after which I needed to take strong pain killers and a long rest until I was fit enough to continue the journey. Fortunately I wasn't the driver. When we did set off, we could not swing forward out of the parking space - not enough room to go far enough forward to clear the caravans on both sides of us and so we had to reverse backwards and swing trying to avoid the waste bins and bollards behind us. Then we were faced with small 'T' junctions to manoeuver around. Whoever planned the layout of this new carpark must be the owner of a Smartcar, and are totally against caravanners, truck drivers and definitely the disabled!! Not only that, after enjoying a good four week rest in Cornwall we arrived home to be faced with a Ã‚Â£120 parking fee from Parking Eye as we had stayed more than their 2 hours free parking and we had not paid their demand for Ã‚Â£90 within their time limit of 20 days. Even in Falmouth disabled people were allowed a further one hour free parking on top of their paid parking time in case they could not get back to their car for some reason.I blame Michael Woods for my parking ticket. If there had been disabled parking for cars and caravans nearer the facilities I would have been able to use them without too many problems and I would not have had to take so much time to recover.I don't really know why we did, but we called at Michael Woods on our way back from Cornwall. This time we did not use their facilities, we just made a drink and left as soon as we could. It was only then - in daylight - that we found Parking Eye's notices re charges. And also in the daylight we noticed how empty the parking area was, surely not a good sign for a service station. I regret to say that never again will we stop at Michael Woods Services and I will make sure that friends realise what bad changes have been made to the parking areas especially for caravanners and the disabled. Long gone are the happy memories of previous stopovers where we parked with the trucks in decent parking spaces facing the right way and enjoyed decent facilities.

We stopped here with our caravan after driving and being stuck in traffic and rested - on returning home we found that we had been presented with a 'fine from Parking eye for over staying the 2 hour free period. It stated that the signs were clearly displayed - but we did not see any signs. I suggest that Parking Eye invests it's vast sums of fine revenue in purchasing some much larger signs! perhaps on the entrance to the parking areas.

Followed the advice..."tiredness can kill...take a break" and "don't drive tired". Stopped at Micheal Wood services at 4.00am for a quick nap. Over stayed my welcome by 40 minutes and was fined Ã‚Â£60.00 by the over zealous meanies at PARKING EYE. Either avoid the service area or by an alarm clock.
They should be wearing masks and carrying pistols to complete the highway robbery picture...

Stopped at this service station on our way to Cornwall, having driven from Leeds we thought it time for a rest as we were feeling rather tired and as the signs constantly remind you 'tiredness kills, pull over' we had coffee and stuff from the machine in the shop and then got our heads down for a couple of hours. We got home from a well earned break to find a ParkingEye parking fine for Ã‚Â£90 (Ã‚Â£60 if paid by return post) it certainly took the edge of our holiday. It showed a picture of my number plate going into the services at 2.34 hrs am and a clear picture of my full car leaving 3hrs and 1 minute later in day light. The fine constantly states the signs for parking are clearly marked but if the picture of my car is anything to go by and it is white and all you can see is a vague shine from right hand wing mirror and my number plate as it was so dark, how noticable then are the 'pay and display' signs? Well done ParkingEye for being the first to issue me a parking fine in 26 years of driving and for your extortionate charges, we will not be stopping again at these services and will tell our our friends and family so it may have cost us Ã‚Â£60 but how much loss in business will the shops and petrol station on this site loose out on by upsetting hard working motorists?

this use to be my favorite stop off, but yesterday i got food after waitng 5 minutes for someone to come and serve us, then we had to wait for the same chap to come and serve us with hot drinks by this time our food was going cold, when we got to the tables they were all wiped to a fashion but there was a sticky surfice on the table as they had not been done properly, the staff dont seem to care, but the managegment want sacking the whole restaurant area is a shambles and a lot of people were complaining, the shop and petrol forcourt were run a lot better. sorry michel woods it will be a long time before i return.

On Saturday May5th my friend and I visited the restaurant at Micheal Wood Services on the M5 Motorway,having purchased coffee we sought a seat, not one clean one was available due to the disgusting mess on all seats and tables,there were chips on all parts of the floor area and uncollected crockery on most of the tables. We felt that if the food and hygene people had paid a spot check the area would have been closed down immediately. Having read other comments regarding this situation it would seem that gery little is being done to rectify it. As a large national company you should be ashamed as this does not show you in a very good light to international visitors to this country.

Its the first time I have ever used this MSA and to be honest I would stop here again despite some of the negative comments.
There isn't an MSA on the motorway network that is perfect but I found the facilities there good. Whilst most comments relate to day time visits, I have to say that Michealwood has at least given some thought to those of us that work nights as drivers. Toilets were clean and food availible not bad.

I stopped off at Michael Wood on my way to Cornwall last night with my car needing a relatively quick and simple repair that I didn't feel was safe to do on the hard shoulder (an intercooler pipe had popped off and I wasn't getting any boost from the turbo)
I stopped on the petrol station forecourt as it was the only place that was lit. I had been lying on the floor trying to put the pipe back on, when one of the staff from the petrol station tried to make me leave and park elsewhere! He seemed to think that it would be safer for me to go and find a darkened layby somewhere, where I would run the risk of another vehicle running into my car and knocking it onto me. He also tried to tell me that it is illegal to work on a car in a petrol station. As far as I can tell, this is not the case.
Sorry to be so negative, but what else could I do in my situation? If i had pulled onto the hard shoulder and rang the AA, the traffic wombles would probably have showed up and blocked the inside lane, then when the AA had showed up, it would have taken him 5 minutes to repair my car. I'd have thought common sense would dictate that my approach was safer and easier for everyone!

Just called in to Michael Wood Services South hoping for a coffee to revive a tired head and body. Diapointed to find it closed. No coffee, nowhere to sit for a rest. Nothing. Even the shop and Wild Bean Cafe at the petrol station closed. Is it not a condition of getting the franchise to operate 24 hours a day? At this time of night (0035hrs) is exactly when coffee is needed. Anyone can run a cafe during the day. Franchises should only be given to those prepared to open 24 hours a day.

Mrs Cooke, the justification, I'm sure, is that cheap skates like yourself go in to 'use the toilet' and not buy anything else in this giant facility which is provided 24/7, heated and ventilated to the satisfaction of the masses. Moreover you're so tight fisted that you went up to get a pot of hot water rather than paying for another pot of tea, I bet you're also one of those people that complains when tea is served in mugs at some establishments BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU! We never ever use these places normally because of the inflamitory prices. However we were desperate to use the toilet,And as i walked in i was faced with a terrible smell and the toilets themselves were absolutly disgusting, every 1 was stained and i realy felt dirty using them, Then i went into the cafe for a cup of tea and was shocked to find that a pot for 1 is a staggering Ã‚Â£2-15p so i got a pot for 1 + 2 cups poured most of the tea into the 2 cups then returned to the counter and requested a pot of hot water that cost 00 then toped the cups up so it cost me Ã‚Â£2-15p for 2 Cups so theres a money saving tip for you so next time i will take my own cups and tea bags and get the water free lol, But we were sat near the cuboard were they keep the knives,forks ect and was horrified to see the rubish behind this cuboard. I complained to the manager and stated if there was rubish like that in the restraunt i dread to think what their kitchens are like. If people boycotted these places like i will now they may open their eyes and at least close the place down for a decent clean

We use the Michael Wood Services as a convenient half way point for our Northamptonshire based grandchildren to be dropped of by their parents for us to take back to Devon for a holiday. We have experienced the shambles of the alterations to the car parking layout of both North and South bound Services and following a particularly shambolic visit in the middle of July, I immediatly complaind to the Customer Services Manager. I have today (21st September!)received a reply to the effect that there are 343 parking spaces Northbound and 362 South bound, and that there had been no further complaints since mine. I will also be sent some Welcome Break vouchers. Whoever designed the new parking layout should be ashamed - the site is a death trap. We witnesses near misses as drivers dithered about which entrance to use and dodging the two way traffic to get to the exit slip.We shall avoid this service area for all other trips on the M5 - such a shame as it used to be a favourite stop.

Having just returned from towing my caravan from Devon I called at the NEW MICHAEL WOOD SERVICES.I was quite excited as on previous journeys the revamp looked as if it was going to improve services.What a Shambles!!!.The allocation of spaces for caravans on the right side of the services on the Northbound side is ridiculous, 8 places . If you have a camper van parked in the allocated spaces opposite ,it is near on impossible to drive a twin axled caravan out of the allotted caravan parking space. You will either rip the wing of the vehicle in the lane next to you or the front of the camper van parked opposite.Did anyone give any forethought to this , or is it just squeeze in as many as possible. In future I will not use the allotted caravan space, but will park with the lorries.I understood new laws were introduced for motorway areas to provide caravan or elongated vehicle places for disabled travellers, Where are they Michael Wood? Sedgemoor have them why can't you?Today there was a queue coming off the motorway waiting to enter the NEW SERVICES AND CARAVANS WERE COMING IN THROUGH THE EXIT WAY TO TRY TO FIND HOW TO PARK THEIR UNITS. WHAT A JOKE. England take a leaf out of the German Auto Bahns.. adequate space for lorries, caravans , cars with showers, toilets , picnic areas and NO CHARGE FOR OVERNIGHT STAY... On the motorway we read "TIREDNESS KILLS, REST " OK but at what cost? This is laughable Michael Wood. Travellers avoid and use alternative areas.....

Having had reply to my complaint of 28th May I waited to visit again which I did today 4th August at 1.30pmHowever surprise, surprise nothing has changed!Extra 7 Ladies toilets again roped off with still no sign to tell women they are there, despite being assured by letter from training manager that this would be done on 28th JuneHaving read other complaints on this site management seem sadly lacking at this service stationWe had a meal inside with a young man clearing tables and sweeping up around us as we ate who then disappeared leaving a pile of rubbish on the floor near our feet!Wonder what training he had received?

Having used these services on and off for years i have slowly watched them decline and seen the management stand by and watch this happen they obviously don't take anyones view into account because they are of the oppinion "WE'VE HAD YOUR MONEY YOU CAN LEAVE NOW" been a cartransporter driver i have stayed at micheal wood on a few occasions but after my last visit on the 10/07/2011 that will be my last after these so called improvments to the hgv parking area i found the bays at least 6 or seven feet to small for my truck leaving the car on the front of my truck dangerously hanging to far out into traffic i was then awoken numerous times by other vehicles doing trailer changes and swapping loads at 3 am this is meant to be a rest area in which i paided alot of money to have a 9 hour rest in this was impossible due to the above comments i could go on about about the discusting state of the showers in which i would not wash my dog in never mind myself the toilets that were blocked the poor staff attitude but lets face it what's the point i proberbly won't even get a reply to this e mail because as i have said the management of welcome break are just not interested such a shame because 2 or 3 years ago this was one of the best in the country and beleive me i have seen them all

We have always stayed overnight @ Michaelswood with our caravan as it halfway to our destination in the West Country. We have a meal on arrival at night and breakfast in the morning before leaving. Unfortunately this year will be the last as we had such an unpleasant experience this year with everything from the caravan parking to the restaurant.The changes to the parking areas have made it almost impossible to park safely with a caravan. The entire restaurant experience both evening and morning was unpleasant due to uncleanliness of all areas, utensil containers, milk flasks etc, and the general incompetence of the staff although I don't blame them as they can only be as efficient as they are trained by Management who seemed conspicuous by their absence ! Come on Welcome Break get your act together and restore Michaels Wood back to it's former glory !

This is a note to all caravan users. Don't bother stopping at Michael Wood services anymore. The management must dislike any one with a caravan. I visited the services on 17th June 2011 at 14.00hrs and counted 10 spaces for caravans to park since they re- designed the parking area. I suggest you either stop at the 1 before at Bristol or carry on to the services just before Worcester. I will also be notifying the Camping and Caravanning and The Caravan Club to tell it's members about the poor and lack of parking facilities caravan users. What a shame because Michael Wood services always had good services to offer travellers

By the look of the comments, management clearly are not interested in listening to their customers. The so-called improvements have now made this another caravan unfriendly services. The idea of taking a break should be for safety, and not just to fill the pockects of your organisation. I appreciate caravanners do not spend as much as ordinary car drivers, but you have a duty to provide a safe area for all drivers to take a break in. You new caravan area which I visted on 4th June is a joke and clearly not designed for the amount of caravans that it needs to be. Again I had to use the HGV area which although improved, is not suitable for caravanners. I really hope that the improved parking facilities affects your profits, as clearly you only appear to be interested in this and not safety.

Last night, after suffering delays heading southbound from J4 to J6, my family and I decided to stop for some rest/food. Once inside in the eating area we found ourselves clearing our own tables and seats, actually having to wipe them down before seating. The food waste on the floor and greasy tables were completely unacceptable. i have never experienced any motorway services in our country in this disgusting state, upon complaining I was given the usual'It's somebody else's fault story and that all the outlets share the responsibility'. Well, clearly there is no one doing heir job here and It is just totally depressing to know that the over priced food here still does not reflect a better service or even a clean environment. I could put up with high pricing if there was a positive outlook and obvious signs of quality but there is none of these and I for one will never visit this area again, We should take a look at our European services, in particular those in most of France, they put us to shame. Great britain?? I think not, where is your pride people?

I am utterly bemused by the new layout at Micheal wood services on the M5.I cant see how this is an improvement or who will benefit from it.It now seems that caravanners are unwelcome and the area for trucks is now much smaller,surely they will now have less customers.The site used to have excellent access for long vehicles with lots of parking even in very busy periods,these benefits have been lost in the new design.

I left a comment on here a while ago regarding a member of staff who worked here who was so helpful and kind. So whilst heading South on holiday I decided to stop here again and drop off a thank you card to Scott (the staff member) only to be told that he had been forced to leave by the new Director. The young lady told me that it was such a shame as he had worked hard on improving the services. I must say from this visit I could see that for myself as the whole site just felt dirty and un-loved.
I have stopped here for the last 15 years, but not anymore I will now stop at the services before this one. Such a shame.

This service area was like going back in time - it was dirty (buns overflowing inside around the seating area, tables were full of remnants of drinks and food from previous visitors. The floor was very dirty. Staff were chatting but not cleaning up or collecting trays of overflowing crockery left on shelves which customers had moved to create a space to sit and eat and drink their food.
A visit to the toilet had many cubicles with no toilet paper, some rolls of paper were available on the sanatory bins - not very healthy! The notice outside the toilet area asked for a donation after using the 'lovely toilets' -shame on the people running this service area for allowing such a dreadful Welcomebreak service area.

Have used these services many times but never again unless you can improve access for caravans.The turning circle is to small for unit with a long car and caravan it would be much better to have a drive through slot.Also note that there is no facility for disabled caravaners my wife was in extreme pain after the long treck to your main site,we are not alone i know of many more caravaners that also have similar problems.I hope that after this complaint you will take note and strive to make improvements that lead to better service.

As a trucker this services was frequently an ideal, convenient place to take a break in recent years. The Truck Parking area was well laid out and spacious and also highly suitable for caravanners (I am also a caravanner). Unfortunately in recent weeks the Truck Parking area has been undergoing redevelopment and now looks to have been ruined. The layout looks as though it has been completely messed up with small spaces and manoeuvring now severely and seemingly permanently restricted. During the on-going work it has , on occasions been absolutely impossible to park there, and when I have I have been 'dicing with death' in order to get inside the services as there has been no proper pedestrian walkway from the Truck Parking area. I used to think this was one of the best services around for Truckers but it has now been 'developed' into one of the worst. Looks like they only now welcome cars containing families.

i actually worked here for a year and the car park has to be in a state to make it better..the winter isnt busy so is the best time to refurbish. Anyone who moans that it is expensive..what do you expect..they can do that because it hits a target audience. I think its a great station with very friendly staff

For several weeks it has been a building site! The access to the car park is very badly signed, we went straight through once. It is appalling at night. there are no warnings on the slip road. Nothing on site to say what on earth is going on.

While my heart goes out to those people who work at motorway services I'm sure they would able to be employed by similar chains not based at motorway services. If things are so bad then work elsewhere ( don't tell me u can't)

Amazed at these comments weather your paid Ã‚Â£6.00 an hour or Ã‚Â£25 it won't stop what is happening on service areas and being paid more will not change your attitude ok yes it will for a little while then you will be back moaning again. At the end of a day the customer wants service not our fault what you get paid and not our fault if cut backs take place or staff are sick. We want service as we are paying a premium price and you and your team should remember that. Yes your quite right people should write to the CEO's of these company's (How do you know they dont). I know that CEO's are well aware of this web site but wont reply to comments on here for fear on there behalf that they will have to do something about these problems and then they would have to admit what is going on in thier service areas. Ceo's will play lip service they know what is going on they are in charge of blue chip company's they are not stupid but like everything else in this world thier the fat cats taking the cream and not having to face what you guys have to face everyday, but hey ho that's life get over yourself embrace the fact you are working accept you are not going to change the world and give the customer service, or you can vote with your feet and find another Job.

I would just like to say that next time you feel that you need to moan about a motorway service area just remember this,
The staff are paid just above the min wage and are expected to work bank holidays, weekends and late into teh night for no extra money. Staff are regularly called in on their days off to cover sickness etc with no thanks. The cleaners are expected to pick up the mess that the customers can not manage to get into the bins and clear up after the foul and truly disgusting behaviour of the lorry drivers. Ask yourself would you pick up human faeces for Ã‚Â£6 per hour? they do. So I take my hat off to them because they do a stirling job given the circumstances, if you want to complain write a letter to the CEO at head Office.

My comment is not about the services, but the staff.
I was recently travelling from Birmingham to Cornwall to see a Customer and I stopped at Michaelwood as I was travelling with my dog. I opened the boot of my car to put my handbag in whilst I walked the dog and stupidly closed the boot with the keys inside. Being a new car the doors were all locked and the only way to open the boot is with the remote control. So here I was locked out of my car with no money, no phone with a dog and to top it off it started to rain. I asked a young lady for some help who called a Gentleman called Scott the Facilities Manager who came to assist.
After checking to see if he could get into the car for me Scott searched on the Internet for a mobile auto locksmiths and arranged for them to come and get me in my car. The locksmiths were going to be about an hour before they got to me so Scott kindly let me sit in his office with my dog as I could not take him in the building and did not want to leave him out in the rain on his own. Because my purse was locked in my car I even got a free cup of Coffee.
I would like to say that this was a true example of customer service at its' very best and it is a shame that you are not treated the same everywhere you go. Welcome break should be proud for employing such dedicated and helpful staff. 5* Service Thank You

Food was poorly cooked and luke warm and the staff serving were very unhelpful. From what I saw of the staff this company must recruit outside schools as they all looked like children. Only one person trying to clean the seating area which was obviously a struggle for him. But on a positive note I would like to say that the services looked cleaner since my last visit in Februaury. Also had great Customer Service from a Manager who went out of his way to assist me and my Wife. I did not get his name but I think he was the Repairs Manager.

Why do people feel the need to moan so much, this country is becoming a country full of moaners. Service Stations are busy places and of course on occasion things may slip a bit.
Just think how hard it is to keep a smile on your face and stay positive when you've had idiots moaning at you all day!
I dont work at a services and never have but do work for a well known company and know first hand how idiotic and petty a small minority of the British public can be!
Keep your heads up service station workers, some of us appreciate all your hard work :)

Do go to the KFC here if you want terrible service by staff who really dont want to serve you, then they will take your money and virtually throw your order at you. You might even do what i did and then walk over the service bridge with your KFC in tow and sit in your car and open your food bag only to discover they somehow managed to burn to a crisp the Zinger burger bread bun. I know it is probably not worth saying but there is something wonderful about sharing your name with a Motorway Service although it is very scary when you first see the signs for it and you do turn to other people in the car and ask if they see their name or yours.

im currently working here for the summer period and so far i have found that lots of people assume that we are all con men and ripping them off. Yeah the coffees expensive and the sandwiches are nearly Ã‚Â£4, but alot of the other services i have been to have nowhere near as nice staff as us! and we are always prepared to help.. If your not rude about it. you dont see us complain when you all rustle up the newspapers because you dont want the top one!! or when you spill the coffee on the floor and i have to get that stupid oversized WET floor sign. Or my personal favorite where im alone on the till as staff need breaks and there is a slight queue and you begin to roll your eyes at me!! but come on were all there to be helpful and have a good time with people.. most of you will be going somewhere nice afterall.. :) And if we can put up with u lot then come on surely u can put up with paying a couple of quid more!!
now seriously.. all organisations have good and bad points. our service station has great customer service no matter what you have read. if you have a genuine issue all our staff will be as helpful as possible and considerate to your situation. and im not just saying that!!
Little tip... the whole point of welcome break is to have a break from all the jeremy clarksons out on the road. so instead of rushing in, toilet, back out... hang around, relax, replenish and refuel (btw im not upselling there :)) because its a really nice place and people there are there for YOU! so come in and have a fandabydosey break..at WELCOME BREAK!!!
(Top gear is good too by the way!! this island is clarkson island and it has the greatest amount of clarksons per square mile..... in the world lol)

Just left Michael Wood services after enduring an appalling breakfast service. The "breakfast bap" was hilariously overpriced even by service station standards and devoid of effort or quality. The cutlery was dirty and upon complaining we were greeted by a tenuous apology and offer of a clean fork. Not the first visit to these services but certainly the last.

i would like to give credit to the people who work here, i deliver to these services and quite often get mistaken for a member of staff and 50 percent of the time i get people coming up to me saying oi your coffee machine is on the blink or hey wheres this no please or thankyou from most customers, when i say sorry i dont work here people just look at you like crap and just walk off , these guys put up with a lot of crap from customers which i witness very often so next time think before you moan to the staff and be polite to them would you like to be spoken too like you speak to them i think not, hats off too the guys there ;-)

We stop here as a family going south every year as the first break in our journey to Cornwall. We've always found the site reasonably clean, the staff friendly and helpful. We do travel in May before the bank holiday, so kinda out of season. But this break is always the start of the holiday for us. Of course with small boys we do seem to make lots of stops and start the holiday several times in the day ...

I stopped of for a burger king on today and the order was wrong, it was really busy so i wasn't that bothered but as I'd paid for something more expensive i wanted what i paid for... the girl was happy enough to change my burgers to the correct ones but the replacements were wrong too..
the 3rd burgers were correct but were cold and pretty much slapped together. I was very disappointed as i only have a burger king 4 times a year...

I love this place. I go there every time, to and from Birmingham...Well maintained, good food and drink to offer, and toilets are nice.All in all, a great Service station, and I will continue to go there, and recommend others do also.

ok then barry vincent, i was working that day when the insect was found in your drink in fact i was the person that you told, there is no way that it was in there when you got the drink, i obviously made the drink and i would have noticed if somethin was in the cup, you had a regular filter coffee. and there is no possible way that it go into your drink from the filter coffee as the coffee comes from the filter into another filter before it goes into the container and then when it is poured out it is again filter through the tap!!! so the crack is that you brought the insect, put it in the drink and ther you go a full refund...free food and beverages!!! good 1 m8

Shocking. We stopped at the southbound services on Sunday 20 Sept 2009 for a cup of tea. None of the tables in the conservatory was clean. There was food waste and rubbish on the table and the floor. Two staff were chatting in the wash up areas. It was a disgrace. The amazing spectacle was seeing people actually sit down at these tables to eat!

Update re 5th JuneAfter waiting for toilets to be sorted a Phonecall to teh HR at the site was made re the Toilets and building mound of rubbish at the rear of the main building.The wash room has now warm water in the gents and rubbish from the kitchen area is slowly going but the rodet problem still remains. Rubbish in the bin and by closing the lid on teh skip bins would help in reducing the problem.As for the comment from Anon 15th October 2008--- yes Hgv drivers do get meal vouchers for food but please not this in in the cost of paying to park at a cost.Also Re Anon 25th June i understand that having both sides open costs. So why only do they open both sides on ban holidays and when the schools break up ???? oh yes to take more money,,,, so why not stagger the opening of both sides??that way mon, wed, fri south bound open, sun, tues, thurs, northbound and alternate the saturdays.
As for food ad drinks etc people dont mind paying if what they are getting is of good quality.and I dont have a problem with teh staff i find them all usualy polite and helpfull

I couldn't possibly agree more with the comments of anon. (25 June 2009) I think the way a small minority of customers treat staff in fast food outlets, shops and service areas is disgraceful. I'm a young man just out of my teen years working at a sports shop and while thankfully, I haven't been as badly abused by customers as anon claims he and his colleagues have been, some customers are so impatient and walk off if they're not served within 40 seconds, moaning about what crappy service theyÃ¢Â€Â™ve received. They don't realise that at peak hours, this is impossible and they have to wait for some things. What happened to the days when firms didn't tolerate any abuse of their staff and staff member's rights were respected by customers? I recently stopped quickly at these services on my way to South Wales to buy a peanut butter Kit Kat and was served by a lovely youth. He provided me with excellent service and I had a nice little chat and joke with him. I understand that some services in this country are awful and people have a right to complain about them. However, to be rude to the staff about it is disgusting when it's not even anything to do with them. If you really feel strongly about poor service you've received, write to the manager about it. Don't abuse the staff, they're only doing their job!

We purchased sandwiches and coffees at Welcome Break - 'Eat In'- and as my wife was finishing her coffee she discovered to her horror an inch long flattened insect in the bottom of her mug. This particular establishment claims to focus on quality & value providing handcrafted coffees! In our opinion, rogue insect apart, they were the poorest coffees we have tasted for a long time. One cannot help but feel that there are issues regarding food hygiene standards that need addressing here.

i currently work at michaelwood services, 1st of all they shut one side at ten but the shop is open and the eat in is open on the other side, i dont think this is a problem? whats the point in paying staff to work in both eat ins at night when only few ppl come in during half ten and half 6am. i am also absolutly disgusted in the way that customers treat the staff. i mean come on most of us are 16-20 year olds who are still in full time education, we are just wanted some extra income for necessities etc. so why do you customers think you are in a higher class then us? its not fair to be spoken to with attitude or moaned at for the size or price of things. do you think thats anything to do with us? for god sake we just work there, trying to make some money whilest studying. well i do enjoy my job only because i love who i work with. we get some lovely customers who we want to be nice to and serve with a smile. but then we get the assholes who are nasty and swear at us, believe it or not we have had people trying to start fights with us, or dragging staff over counters, just because of something which is not our fault. so next time you go into a service station, you gotta realise that for most of us this is not our career choice and we are studying. we are nice ppl too, so be nice to us!!

Service area southbound.Used the male toilets at 23:00 hrs Thursday 4th June 2009I must say they looked pretty clean the only two problems were 1. They STANK not just a light smell but stank of stale urine.
2. There was NO hot water to wash your hands only cold water.
the rest of the area apart from the shop is closed you have to x the bridge to the northbound service area for anything that is to resemble Food.

I worked here whilst doing my A Levels during 89-91. It seems by reading comments and my recent visit that they have maintained the standards. Back then we were often winning customer service and best cuppa awards, and for every complaint we got we would receive 2 or 3 complements. The staff were rewarded for complements received if they could be traced to particular staff. Reading here, it seems people are still happy, but they still get the moaners! It is a very busy service area at holiday time, so if you want it perfectly clean and get quicker service, and want more time spent preparing your food, travel later!

It makes me chuckle that people complain about the price of service station food... Hello!? Everyone should know by now that they are generally overpriced!! If you are planning a long journey, plan to make a stop at the supermarket first!! It's not rocket science, but common-sense and forward planning!Also, people complaining that the food is microwaved... Of course it is! If you go into any branch of a large chain establishment they WILL microwave the food! You can't expect them to have fresh food prepared and ready to go all the time... What an insane waste of food that would be!!In my eyes there are only a couple of things that can be complained about and that is service, which will depend on your server and how their day has gone and the volume of other customers, the cleanliness of the station - although we must remember how many people use it a day, and possibly the layout of facilities!I have used MWS on several occasions, the facility is generally clean and the food has always been acceptable, but then, what do you expect from a service station?Wake up people!!

After losing air in a tyre we had to stop to pump up again. The air hose was filthy and so strong it took two of us to drag it around the car (as I am disabled) marking everything it touched. The fight to pull and keep it out meant we had to pay 20p a wheel as it kept stopping.A dirty and exhausting method of coughing out excess money and the embarrassment of arriving at our destination dirtier than a pair of tramps left us underwhelmed with the experience.

Well I work at Michaelwood and whilst I'm not defending it, I do wonder at some people.
Surely everyone knows that motorway services charge the earth for a cup of coffee, so why do you complain, and furthermore, why do you complain to the people who work there and don't set the prices?
I also do not feel pity for the HGV drivers, not only do you get paid a hell of a lot more (fair do's, you do do a more important job) but you also get meal vouchers, so you don't really pay for your meals.
Most of the staff who work there get Ã‚Â£500-Ã‚Â£700 a month, when you pay peanuts.......

Stopped north bound on Friday evening to change and feed the baby. A modern services with good acilities but in need of cleaning.The toilets were bearable but the floor dusty and dirty and certainly not been swept or cleaned in weeks. The baby change room was equipped with toilet, sink, bin, changing table AND a safety seat to strap baby in while you sort yourself out, but the changing room is also in need of a clean.
Carpark has parent+child spaces. The restaurant has free disposable bibs, microwave and bottle warmer. Unfortunately the comfy chairs had been closed of for the evening and again the tables and floor were in need of a clean.
Would not be my first choice as a place to stop, but I would stop again if necessary.

One of the best I'd say. Huge carpark with separate and equally huge amount of space for coaches, caravans, lorries. Safe central walkways to the amenities buildings. Feels 'nice' - surrounded by trees, feels like you could be somewhere abroad! Amenities building itself well appointed, clean toilets, large dining areas.

I am not sure who owns this services - but I would have liked to imagine that it was an independant. Obviously not, as you seem to have followed in the footsteps of the other services on the south section (Bristol to Exeter) of the M5.I have already mentioned to other services that I have travelled the full length of the M5 in the last few days (both ways, obviously) and have been appalled at the level of supplies and service in the petrol stations at each and every one of them.I was very disappointed that I found; no hot food on the counter, the coffee machine was faulty and that there two of the petrol pumps were coned off.Is this a regular occurence in the busy period?

Ladies loos - Saturday morning. Took 10 mins to get in and 5 mins to get out. Very crowded. It would help if you could please put up a sign on the wall opposite entrance saying "More toilets this way" with a left-pointing arrow. People in the queue just didn't know they were there.

A few months ago I stopped off at around midnight to get a coffee. It cost nearly Ã‚Â£3.00 and I'm almost certain that dishwater would have tasted better. That said, it did the job of waking me up as I poured the coffee down the drain, I was so angry that they could get away with such a piss poor service.

What a well-laid out site. We were in a caravan and were impressed that there was a specific area for us with room to drive in and park. It was well sign-posted and with paths for us to walk with chidren safely to the services. The toilets were spotless too. Well done and thank you.

Hi I used to work at michaelwood, I completly agree with what everyone has said. What puzzles me is why you went in there?? you know its expensive and rubbish so carry straight on to where you heading?!?!?! And yes there are no staff because incase you hadnt noticed its in the middle of knowhere and not many people live in the surrounding area and those who do dont turn up. Yes you can go from north to south, by footbridge only, the alternate routes are extremely complicated.

i was most un impressed when i visted your site last evening while i`m a truck driver and sadly have to use your over price sites at nine oclock in evening had to wait for meal as no meals prepared only cook to order @ 9pm ?? when i did get my over priced saugage and mash the sauages had where cook to death so hard i could not cut them with a knife like it was burnt to death in micro wave the made out gravy granules which was very strong taste which was just as well with the sauages no point compaining as foriegn staff not the best for understanding english while i understand you profit thing truck drivers are still on piss poor wages and dont see a meals costing Â£6.50 plus being uneatable shit go to europe and see how its done ?????

On behalf of the University of Plymouth Rowing Club I would like to say how wonderful this service station is, we are regular visitors to the facility on trips up country, and would be lost without it! The only fault we have is with the price of Ginsters products, and for rowers heading to big races this is a staple food substance!

This has to be the worst services I have ever been too. It was 7pm last saturday night and everything was closed - it was like a ghost town. Absolutely horrible - do not go to this services unless you really really need to.
