The same guy was operating this scam again on 2/8/15 at around13.00hrs. Said he was trying to get back to Brighton, had run out of fuel, distressed and very convincing phone call from girlfriend etc. In fact I saw he had two mobile phones, so probably putting one in pocket to speed dial the other so when a 'call' comes in from the 'girlfriend' in the middle of the conversation he's having with you it looks genuine! Asked if I spoke English. Didn't see his car. His story was something along the lines that he'd missed a flight and his wallet was in a bag that had gone with the plane! I was suspicious and did not give him anything. Thought I'd check out on Google to see if he was a conman. People like this are cruel parasites who prey on people who have Good Samaritan instincts.

Saw the same guy trying to scam money from people at Newport Pagnell Welcome Break services on 31/07/15 at 14:30. Light blue VW Polo reg CW55 CJJ. Gaunt looking 40ish white guy wearing a navy Adidas tracky jacket by name 'Steven King'. Gave that same address. I got his photo and car photo and gonna see if the police want a look.

Same guy in northbound services around 7pm on 17/7/2015. Told him to go away as was acting very theatrical and the whole thing smelt of a scam. Skinny gut with light blue car as described below.

I'm a mug, where was google when I needed it? Got taken by the same guy today :( went by the name of Aaron King. Claimed his address was Waterloo St, Hove, BN3 1AY. 15/07/15 at around 9.30pm. Driving light blue car reg. CW55 CJJ.
I come through here alot so he better watch out next time I'm passing through!

Hi I was also taken in by this man.Who claims to be from Brighton.Also on the phone.He is driving a small blue car registration CW5 CJJ... This was Wednesday 28 January at 4pm.
I have reported the matter to the police, also the staff at the service station are aware off him.He sounds very honest so beware.I don't think he is dangerous just a conman.
Pleae be aware that there is a conman who operates in the cararkk and tells patrons that he has broken down on the opposite side and requires money for fuel to get him home. He pretends to be on the phone speaking with his distressed worried girlfriend in Brighton. He calls himself Lewis and is a skinny 5 foot 7 inch white male with a gaunt look to his face. DO NOT GIVE HIM ANYTHING HE IS A CONMAN.

i was visiting the services on 03/12 and an Indian couple in their 50s approached me as they were stranded and needed petrol money. When I asked where they were going and how much they need I got suspicious as they asked for 150 pounds to travel to Newcastle in their car. I didn't give them the money but was wondering whether this was a scam?

Visited these services today on the northbound carriageway. I had to go into several ladies toilets before I found one with a lock on. In another one the floor was flooded with water. The services weren't particularly busy so this was poor management and not what is expected at motorway services.

Staying at the Days Inn Hotel next to the services. Only for the very brave and dare I say desperate! The general feeling is of doom and gloom. The staff at the services are rude, arrogant and quite frankly very very bad! The Days Inn Staff are good overall though. If it weren't for the fact I have no other choice right now, I definitely wouldn't be here!

One good point is that you lent us a wheelchair. The lady who welcomes coach parties helped us out and got is one and was very friendly. BUT there is NO DISABLED ACCESS TO THE BURGER KING ETC on the south bound side, ie a lift to the north bound side, and WORSE STILL when I was served in Burger King the man was covered with MANY OPEN CUTS ON HIS ARM showing red blood, not one blue plaster in sight. Now if I was a Health and Safety Officer I could have you shut down in an instant. Think on that......

Just visited these services and I was disgusted with the service I received especially from billy at the KFC, we ordered out food at the self service counter and after waiting 20 min in the queue was just told sorry no salad do you want a refund, he was extremely rude and offered no alternative, I understand that it was busy but it's no excuse, after choosing something else my partner received his meal but when asking where his side was the response given was 6 min wait again no alternative given so we left, absolutely appalling service will not recommend to anyone nor will I visit again. Toilets unclean and in general very poor

These services are horrible, the toilets were disgusting and the service at KFC was very poor. It wasn't even busy and waited in a queue for half an hour. I ended up going over the other side to the southbound side and got served instantly. Very disappointed and I won't be back.

Just received the rip off parking for being 42 minutes over the 2 hour free period Ã‚Â£1.42 per minute is outragous. Even worse as I had to pull over and was sick with no where else to go.
This is just another example of rip off and excessive charges. No problem as I will now never spend a penny in a welcome break or fill my car up again at the pumps in welcome break but I will continue to use the facilties as much as I can to get as much value out of the Ã‚Â£60 fine I received and paid today.

On the 11th April around 9p.m we stopped at motorway services and unfortunately I lost a small black jewellery box containing a gold chain and cross with green stones and small cluster earrings. It must have fallen out of the car when I got out but it was dark. If anyone found it please hand it in to any Police Station as I have registered it on the Police Property Register and it is security marked or contact the service station. I am very upset at losing this jewellery as it was a present from my son. I am happy to give a reward. S. Vessey

I was travelling southbound to Hatfield on Sunday teatime. My gearbox went and thank god i was just on the sliproad to your services. Unfortunately even with hazzards on to cars overtook me on inside pushing me into the lorry park. I was quite scared as i was parked in a dangerous spot but couldn't move the car. I hadn't a clue which services i was at as i had only travelled this way once before. I walked over to the car park to ask a couple of people where i was was told but no-one wanted to help. Luckily i am in the RAC and when i rang them they suggested i come into the services and tell them where i had stopped. I have you say a very big thank you to a man out of starbucks, he came to my rescue even helping to push me into a safer spot and being extremely kind. I didn;t get his name but i wish to thank him for coming to my aid.Sue

As a lorry driver going into northbound side for a shower and shop at Waitrose, upset at seeing the showers closed. BUT, then saw the notice to inform that the shower facilities at Days Inn were available. The receptionist was very pleasant, shower was tops, plenty of hot water and space. Well done the operator for the provision of temporary facilities. Waitrose shop is also welcome!!

This service area has improved a great deal in the last six months. The toilets on south are currently being rebuilt, new shower rooms for truckers on north and the site is much cleaner than it ever was. Even the staff seem happier so there must be something good going on! The new Waitrose is also great.

Stopped at the south Bound KFC on Sunday 30th October. Ordered 2 x 3 piece meal and was given only 2 x 2 piece meal. When questioning this was told as they were big pieces of Chicken then could only have 2 even though we paid for 3.Argued with the cashier and got the 3 pieces.

My wife & I called in on the southbound side yesterday afternoon. We've never been there before and feel we would never stop there again. Both the toilets smelt & were disgusting, the whole area looked run down, the route across to the north side looked totally worn out -even dangerous. A man walked into the ladies toilet arguing with his mother & when challenged said 'no one gives a monkey's' This just about sums up the Welcome Break management of the place. Well we do give a monkey's & we can't see why Welcome Break should retain the franchise when it comes up for renewal.

Stopped here for breakfast today and to do some work on route to a customer. Actually typing this review from the new Starbucks on south side.
I've used the services before and they used to be below par on cleanliness but now seem to have their act together. The addition of Starbucks has livened up the forecourt and it's a pleasant place to spend an hour. Of course the price of things never gets cheaper though :)

I visited the southbound services today 29 July 2011 and the gent toilets were so disgusting I think environmental health ought to be called. They are nothing short of a health hazard. How on earth anyone would eat in that particular services after visiting the toilets is beyond me. I have been to some quite grubby places over the years and this experience today was by far the worse I have seen.

Stopped off to use the toilets at Newport Pagnall southbound. Out of small number of cubicles in the gents there was one missing seat and one flooded floor. It's disgusting that service station operators get away with this !

I work around the country a lot and today I had to stop off to use the ladies - and Newport Pagnell services was the first stop I came too. OMG the ladies toilets were disgusting, first of all they were dark due to extremely poor lighting - enough to turn any woman off, the smell was vile (I have a weak stomach and it was making me retch) - overall they need serious attention. Come on guys sort your act out. It doesn't take much to put some light bulbs in, clean and make things smell nice. I am a Property Manager, who manages property and I have to say whoever your Management company/Facilities company are - they need to be sacked. I would rather wet myself than stop in those services again :o(

Pulled into car park at 2355 virtually asleep at the wheel. Went straight to sleep in car seat and unfortunatly slept for five hours.awoke,had coffee and left on my journy. Guess what I just got a Ã‚Â£60 fine for not buying a parking ticket. I did not even know I had to.I suppose there must be a sign somewhere but when your knackered and just want some kip the last thing on your mind is parking fees. Police say driving tired kills, see moterway signs.. services say drive knackered and kill or pay.Thought this was a caring country. Well Boll----ks is it.

On travelling all the way from Adelaide Australia, to attend my Grandad's funeral we stopped at your service station thinking we would get a hot full English breakfast. Which i was looking forward to but what a DISAPPOINTMENT that was. The food was cold. The plates were chipped which I cut my thumb on, also the mug that my Aunt had was cracked and leaking. When we asked for it to be changed it was done reluctantly. Not the best place i have stopped at to eat not impressed.

This must be one of the worst MSA's...The floors are dirty, the KFC serving area was dirty, the loos were filthy and hadn't been cleaned... There is the smell off the toilets in the eating area... The list goes on.....

I decided to stop for a quick coffee but on seeing how nice the food looked, I had a full fry up instead !I have to say that the food was fresh, well cooked and served by friendly staff.The toilets were also very clean with no dodgy smells.Next time I am up this way I will visit again.

Had the missfortune to visit the north bound sevices reacently. My wife being dissabled had to use the dissabled toilet. It was impossible for her to use. I had lift her off the wheelchair onto the toilet!!! A fully abled person would have had difficulty to use this facility.

stopped at this service station 30th april 2010, the toilets were filthy and a horrendous smell from the toilet area, tried to complian but told no manager available and if not happy to go to another service station, very rude staff and substandard service station avoid like the plague. to consider eating there with that smell and knowing the state of toilets was a no brainer.

An extremely rude Manager who was very aggressive towards myself and our family during a stop at these services just before Christmas. Our dog received an electric shock whilst walking outside the services and the Manager did not believe us accused us of lying. He did get it checked out and it was found there were live wires under the paving slabs. Will not be visiting these services again!

It's alright I guess. Everyone seems to be really slating at them on here - but it does the trick. Especially seeing as it is old, and probably gets a really high throughput of people leaving and entering London, Luton and Milton Keynes.
It's problem is that it is just REALLY small (looks more like a few back to back regular petrol stations from the outside!). Low ceilings, small walkways, small building in general. This makes it appear dark and crowded.
It's not the prettiest, the biggest or the best - but I found it clean in a simple way and reasonably fit for purpose. The Burger King restaraunt was clean and modern, and looked hygienic.
You wouldn't want to spend more than an hour there to 'relax' though. Eat, use toilet and carry on your way. If you're on a really long journey, schedule a long relaxing stop for elsewhere.

Pulled in last night for a stop before my last hr of a ten hr day. After being there for half an hour warden rattles my truck door demanding ticket money. Explain I'm only there for a few hrs. He leaves. After waking up I decide to stay a bit longer, stick a sign in the window to say I'll pat for parking when I fill the truck up. Knock atthe door again. Same guy, he then points to the notice and accepts it. Back to sleep again, wakened yet again (this is meant to be a restarea), this time by the cab rocking. Guess what? Same guy climbing on the cab to fix a ticket for Ã‚Â£100 to the window, never even had the descency to put the steps back. So, I spend Ã‚Â£2.50 on coffee, Ã‚Â£6 on a burger, Ã‚Â£8 on magazines (clean ones!), and Ã‚Â£600 on diesel and I get a Ã‚Â£100 fine for stopping for 4 hrs. Guess what I'm not paying and guess what manager will be getting a verbal kicking on my way back up the road tomorrow.

Stopped off on bank holiday monday, was very busy but not so busy you could not find anywhere to sit, hot meal purchased was a tad expensive but was hot and tasted very good, toilets were very clean.

Visited Northbound on Sunday 9/Aug/09. The place was an absolute disgrace. Rip off prices in the shop - cheapest sandwich was a tired looking cheese and tomato at 2.99 - all the others were more. Rip off 'grab bag' crisps - an excuse for charging 70p+ for a bag of crisps. The outside seating area was utterly revolting - unlevel, chipped and flaking picnic tables, litter everywhere and a liberal amount of dog s**t smeared over the cracked and broken paving stones. Will never stop at a 'Welcome Break' again.

Absolutely awful. Food foul - the gammon steaks appalling. The fried egg with the steaks worse. Fuel station abysmal - one cash desk open resulting in a huge queue. Lighting & signage crap. Demolition a good idea.

We stopped here on Friday 15th for breakfast - the service was so slow we would have been better ordering lunch. I have never seen anyone move so slow, it took over 15 minutes to get beans on toast and two pieces of toast - not a difficult order I wouldn't have thought.

We stopped here quite late in the evening after a very tiring drive across and from France for what we hoped would be afriendly place for a break. The service was terrible - the coffee shop was closed despite the irritating tannoy ads to the contrary - the toilets were filthy as were the eat in tables which had not been cleared for hours. The car service area did not have washing facilities for my windscreen - I was told to get some paper towels and soak them with water from the pump beside the station! OK it was late and there were not many staff on duty but surely it is in the interests of the providers to do some research as to when the busy times are and make sure their place is properly serviced. My wife and I will never use this service area again.

I regularly call in to Newport Pagnell south bound,to use the disabled toilet. For several weeks now, I have found a leaky sink, dripping tap and no working hand dryer.The toilet smells badly and looks like it has never been cleaned.I find this disgusting, and feel that because I am disabled I am being treated as a second class citizen. Popped in on the way down to London, first thing I noticed on entering the services was the strong smell of p*ss reeking from the Men's toilet, which was very close to the long q for the KFC! Totally finished off my appertite. Went to use the stinky loo, person in there cleaning, to be fair they were clean, but the stench was overpowering, they need to get it sorted! Went in to shop to buy a bottle of water,as I was not feeling hungry anymore! Ã‚Â£1.70for a small bottle of Vittel!!! What a bloody rip off, Dick Turpin rides again, but this time he stinks of wee!

Atthe fuel station the cash till operator called Richard refused to return my credit card andf was acting beyond his authority and station and he came out to my car and grabbed me by the caller and was using a very threatening behavior and spat on my car and threw a plastic can at my car full of windscreen wash intending to cause bodily harm and that to property. This man needs to be immediately suspended and investigated.
