Newport Pagnell was the second MSA to open, just under a year after Watford Gap. Unlike Watford Gap, though, a serious amount of work went into the design of Newport Pagnell with the owners, Forte, wanting to create a showpiece example of the brave new world of motorway service areas. The glass-sided bridge (now partially obscured by operator logo banners) was state of the art for the late 50s/early 60s, and as well as boasting uniformed "meet and greet" staff the services also had the novelty of an American-style motel on site.

Newport Pagnell Services M1 is a 2 burger rated service area.
