Stopped here on way to work for breakfast. I went to costa and food and service fine. I observed small flies whilst waiting for my order. When I sat down with food n drink it appeared that they have a fly infestation. I seen at least 10 small flies which were swarming over the cafe area. Surely this is a health hazard and needs to be addressed. I will not be stopping here again as it freaked me out!

I have been stopping at Norton Canes services ever since it opened and have seen the changes adversely affected since it's initial opening. The food service is now shocking. I got fish and chips from Fresh & go on Thursday night. The fish was frazzled and extremely dried out whilst the chips weren't full cooked. The gravy was nice though. I would have complained at the time but didn't have time so didn't give the staff a chance to rectify the situation but having already had to wait for the food in the first place I just didn't have the time to wait all over again.

Norton Caines-I just wanted to sat how helpful the man picking up rubbish in the car park was. He helped me get back on my journey after I had taken the Toll road by mistake, he pointed me in the right direction and told me which junction I need to get off at further down the M6. He was about late 50s, fair hair, moustache, wearing hi vis jacket with a green top on

We visited these services on Sunday 10th August at about 3pm. The place was heaving. Decided not to get anything to eat or drink as the queues were very long everywhere. Had to queue from the doorway of the ladies toilets. They were not particularly clean or pleasant when I got there. My husband went to the men's facilities and came out saying that they were the worst he'd ever experienced on a motorway, they smelled really bad and the floor was swimming in urine or water, probably a mixture of the two. Obviously the facilities are inadequate for the volume of traffic.

I called in here on my way from Portsmouth to Stoke on Trent. I was travelling with my 14 year old twins and my 10 year old. Unfortunately my youngest was taken seriously ill whilst there. I cannot fault the response of the staff. The deputy manager had excellent first aid knowledge and was so good with my terrified sons and I. They called for an ambulance, made sure my youngest was comfortable and looked after my twins, as I had to travel in the ambulance with my son, until someone could collect them for me. I never got to eat or drink there, but the staff were incredible. I am very grateful and cannot thank them enough for their care.

We stopped her on the toll road as we thought it would be quieter...its not. Its so small that it was just packed. I went to the Burger Company and it was awful - they had no coffee, the food was only warm and the actual burger was tasteless with stale bread. Queued for ages to get a coffee at WH Smith as the queues at Costa were so big and only one till accepted cards. Went in happy and hungry and came out not very happy, feeling that I'd just eaten from the cheapest nasty burger place ever and wishing I'd waited until the next service station

toilets nice and clean, pleasant place to stop for a break but car drivers please keep away from the drive through caravan spaces, the clue is in the name they are for caravans

I stopped off at the Services on Saturday 5th July at about 3.30pm to buy something in the shop and while I was there I visited the Ladies. I am very disappointed to say that it was an absolute disgrace and based on what I saw should not be allowed to remain open until it is properly cleaned. The toilet cubicles were filthy dirty from the toilet units, the floors, the walls, absolutely discussing. There was no toilet paper. The sink units were filthy, scruffy, water everywhere. There is NO excuse for poor hygiene, especially as this is supposed to cater for people and is surrounded by eating facilities. I reported it to a Manager, but only after I insisted on it, the lady in the shop fobbed me off with an address to complain to!!! When Inactually got to speak to 3 ladies, one explained it was busy, I saw no staff member allocated to cleaning bathrooms. Another customer complained while I was there too. These toilets looked like they had not been cleaned for weeks, shame on the Management for not supervising the facilities in the building. If the toilets are dirty, what are the catering facilities like??

I would just like to say how pleased I was on Friday when I stopped here. I was with my three children 13,3 and 1 I am also on slimming world so was worrying stopping for our evening meal travelling from manchester to London. We had two main meals and got the childrens meals free. The crayfish salad was beautiful and if on slimming world was free, at least three people commented on how it looked on the way to the table, the kids loved their food and the area was very clean... Well done

An expensive experience: Visited here for 4 hours to have a meeting with a colleague, I spent over £30 on coffee, lunch, snacks etc... only to be presented 2 weeks later with an £80 fine for not buying a parking ticket !! not impressed and wont be back.
Paul, Sat 31 May 2014
Not a very pleasant experience. Visited when it first opened, and it was quite a nice place to stop for a coffee. Outside, very scruffy and uninviting. The toilets were frankly disgusting, and in need of a thorough clean; I tried three before I found one that was usable. The hook on the inside of the door was missing, and there was ingrained dirt around the bottom of the door posts. I believe the gents toilets were just as bad. Will certainly not be visiting again.
Harvie, Tue 20 May 2014
I had a message asking to help them relocate the owner of a phone they had found and asking me to call the number 01543272540. I tried calling this number all morning with no answer whatsoever!!!!! Not really good enough when you are worried about a person that you cannot contact! No other contact details provided

I am wondering if it is just me!...but I have visited this services station twice, the second time by accident. I have found it a complete NIGHTMARE to get out of! I seem to have to drive round and round following signs to the exit until I am faced with a sign that says 'no entry' - so the only alternative seems to be to drive round and round again trying to find some other way out of this ludicrous maze. The second and final time I went there, I had to ask a fellow motorist and he agreed it was highly confusing! - and don't even try to find the petrol station on the way out, this only makes things more difficult.
I regularly drive from London to the North West, a journey mainly on motorways and this is the one service station, however hungry etc. I may be, I will NEVER again visit. Life is too short!!

I stopped here 2 weeks ago with my Grandaughter and was remi ded of those terrible days in the 60's or early 70's .all the outside areas were extremely dirty, bins overflowing, cigarette stubs in every possible crevice of the pavement areas, the lonce lovely fountain area not working.Inside was no better, overflowing bins trolleys on view piled with dirty dishes.Uninterested staff..having just returned from Spain I felt ashamed.
Kathy mccurdy, Sun 8 Sep 2013
This is the cleanest and friendliest service area in the uk.And I have a crush on Simone the lovely gorgeous lady that works there.
Gordon Sunhill transport, Mon 2 Sep 2013
I must have visited most of the motorway stops in Britain. This is easily the worst. Clean, tidy, well equipped with the most depressed, de-motivated and unhelpful staff. The management has to be the culprit, my condolences to those unfortunate enough to work or visit there.
tim, Sun 9 Dec 2012
Stopped for breakfast on Friday 19th October, found some of the staff were miserable, one in particular I was hoping wouldn't be serving me as I had noted her horrible attitude to a previous customer, unfortunately she served me and I requested some brown toast with my breakfast and as she had to get me some fresh she was really annoyed, the food is expensive here but I feel that if the staff are unhappy doing this job there are plenty of people out there who would and could do the job much better, please improve customer relations as it wasn't a pleasant experience and this isn't the first time this has happened to me at this motorway services which is a shame because it;s a nice place.
Pam, Tue 23 Oct 2012
For a quick toilet stop, maybe a Costa coffee - o.k. Twice now we have stopped for a bite to eat on a longer journey but been unable to stomach the food on offer! This latest time we were met on entry with a huge ad for baked potatoes. My wife enjoys these and, being Gluten free, can eat one with cheese! On arrival we were met with "We haven't got any". Also, a card promised food would be fresh cooked but clearly from watching others get food this was totally untrue! It sits on "hotplates" congealing.... I lost my appetite very quickly! Ugh! Horrible. Do not attempt to eat here, except in Costa!
Tim Coad, Wed 11 Apr 2012
The burger place is dire. Slow service and the quality of burger you'd expect at a second rate fair ground burger stall. Avoid.
Chinny Hill, Sun 22 Jan 2012
I have been in a number of service areas up and down the M6 in the small hours of the morning and in those quiet and dark times it is neither unexpected or unusual to see the odd mouse as you pass a bin. I visited Norton Canes recently on a busy, sunny, Sunday afternoon and the sight that greeted me was four rats, all a foot long, fighting over half a discarded burger. This shocked me and I've stopped at Happendon (M74). If the operators of Norton Canes really think this is acceptable they are in the wrong business.

I,ve only just found this site hence my comments relate to May this year.We had stopped, not for the first time at this service, mainly due to it being a good place to stop with our dog,had a decent lunch, drove about 150mile to Clacket lane services, only to discover i had left my bag under the table. It contained our passports,£1200,tickets for the channel crossing, camera etc. Some very honest soul, whether staff or public, couldn,t find out but it was handed in fully intact, couldn,t thank staff duty manager, enough. It restored my faith in human nature, and saved my holiday,so to whoever handed it in ,thank you.

Dreadful cold breakfast. Cheap ingredients, skimpy quantity, cold plate, undercooked egg. All washed down with cold cofee. Mmmmm! Not exactly what I call a "traditional breakfast"
Rhod, Thu 14 Jul 2011
6.30 am stopped for breakfast!!!!! Not open until 7.00 am brilliant left unwatered and unfed sandwiches available but prefer a cooked breakfast usually had good service here off to find next services
P beddows, Sat 2 Jul 2011
The food is DREADFUL, and as that's the main reason for stopping, that's all I can remember about the place. The food at the burger bar is particularly dire: they don't seem to have mucked the chips up too much but everything else was pitiful. The burgers are so thin and scrawny that I can only think they cook them by ironing, and still they don't come anywhere close to reaching the edge of the bun. And they taste of nothing, nothing at all. My seven year old tasted one and then point-blank refused to eat it, which from her is pretty damning. The chicken burger, which you would buy as a hopefully "healthy" option appears to have been dipped in fish shop batter and deep fried, possibly more than once. If there is lettuce, they are so stingy with it that I didn't spot it. Absolutely horrible, and there's not a lot of alternative - where other service stations have a Waitrose or M&S these days so you can at least grab a sandwich if you don't fancy the cooked food, here if you don't fancy their food you have to go elsewhere. Something I shall be going out of my way to do from now on.
Sian, Sun 5 Jun 2011
Have just used these services for the last time, the new burger bar is gross they must have stolen the photo's from someone else for what you see is certainly not what you get 3 bacon cheese meals £24 cheap poor quality burgers that tasted like sawdust yuc.Norton canes has gone from the only place that I would stop on my way to Liverpool from London to the only place that I won't now stop.
Lorraine fox, Sun 15 May 2011
Twice we have left work on a Friday evening in Cheshire to drive to Reading for the weekend. The M6 Toll Road services are convenient to stop at for a meal on the way but we have decided that we MUST find somewhere else to eat. The food here is absolutely dire. Last weekend, we tried to find something that would be classed as one of the five-a-day so chose baked potatoes with garden salad. There was only one portion of tuna left so my partners chose cheese. The potatoes must have been sitting around for hours - they were so tough that we couldn't cut the skins, let alone chew them and the potatoes were only just warm. The salad consisted of a handful of tough leaves from a bag and a couple of cherry tomatoes. One of the staff was working very hard to be cheerful and friendly but our lad was obviously bored out of his skull and had to keep asking us to repeat what we said because he kept forgetting. Please would the owners of t his place go and visit Tebay which is, so far, the only service station we have visited with outstanding facilities, food and service. Go and see how it can and should be done!

i frequently use norton Canes Services - it is the best service station i have come across for me to exercise my large dog! we go up the hilland along the paths - we have even seen deer in the bushes. it is clean - not agreat deal of litter and so far no unpicked up dog poo. An outside tap to refill dog water bottle would make noton canes even better! I don't use the restaraunts - but i do use the loos which ares usually clean (there was one occasion when the queues were exceptionally long and i was reluctant to leave my dog in the car for that length of time) and when there are no queues i do pick up a coffee to take out.

It is with grave regret that I must inform fellow road users of the simply inadequate supply of nourishment, the fries were dry and tasteless and I for one would never again wish to suffer the indignity of spending 158 of my well earned penny's on four rather vile onion rings. As for the toilets, I simply cannot find suitable vocabulary to convey my disgust at their condition. On a more positive note the weather was magnificent in all its splendour.
Boris, Sun 10 Apr 2011
I always use Roadchef Norton Canes. They seem to change something every couple of months, which makes everything look new and clean! But the past few times I have, there has been a long wait to be served, i know it is not the staff i have always had a pleasant server; more like lack of them (There is 1 serving a Que of 15 or more). I recommend this to everyone! Great food, although at only slightly higher prices than the high streets and a bit of a Que.Toilets are clean, and everything is working; as i have been to a lot of stations where "out of use" is the "inn" thing.Overall Great station, but would like to see my money going on ME getting served faster rather than a revamp. Thanks for reading, i rate it 4* (5*when i get served faster)

£9.04p for Sausage, Chips, gravy and a bottle of coke
On principle will never use any of these facilities again for fear of going bankrupt. I really would rather have the indignity of calling the RAC because I have ran out of petrol than refuel here.
scott, Tue 1 Feb 2011
I always stop here en route for the north of England as it feels much nicer than other service stations, nice outside area with fountains etc, inviting little hill for a quick walk up (but don't bother, not worth it!). I prefer to eat Burger King which is not available here so only stop to eat/drink my own refreshments. It would be better if they didn't fill up the interior hall with cheap tat for sale.
EM, Thu 8 Jul 2010
clean and good service
geoff, Tue 22 Jun 2010
I travel from M25 to Carlisle and late at night. Regularly call in here both ways. Reason: its quiet, clean and above all being an unacompanied female I always feel safe in car park and restaurant.
May, Sun 21 Mar 2010
Stopped here for a meal about 9.00 p.m. on 23 December, en route from Manchester to London. Was shocked to find that the restaurant and the Wimpy outlet were both closed - the only food available was a very limited range of snacks from the Costa coffee counter. I always thought that motorway service areas were obliged to provide hot food 24/7. Very disappointing - I will avoid this service area in future.
Dave, Wed 30 Dec 2009
Facilities were up to standard although some employees(women /men in red shirts) of Costa were rude, not taking care into their job and messing around constantly,99% of time when i'm there its normally upto scratch but last time was horrendous!! Nice drinks though but rest of place is ok too 6/10
S Gallagher, Tue 29 Dec 2009
I have never BEFORE been in a M-Way Services toilet and heard birds singing, been surrounded by a field of sunflowers, smelt the perfume of tHe countryside and had the experience of automatic taps and hand dryers etc that work!
Well done!
Peter Braybrook, Mon 28 Sep 2009
Stopped on way back from Luton Airport to Cheshire about 10pm. Got a coffee from Costas. Friendly service, first rate coffee. Can't fault such service so late at night. Just what I needed to get the last 50 miles back home.
John F, Thu 13 Aug 2009
Great services but toilets are something else absulutley digusting
STEPHEN MUIR, Mon 3 Aug 2009
Visited on the way to Manchester after a 6 a.m. start for breakfast with my son. Was tempted by the "five burger" rating from this website, and the visit fully lived up to the high rating; good food and pleasant staff.
Mark, Mon 22 Jun 2009
An excellent services - i look forward to stopping off there on my journeys to the north west. Clean facilities, even if a little busy.
Jonathan, Thu 16 Apr 2009
An excellent services. The toilets are very clean, and the multiple Costa coffee service areas mean you don't have to wait too long for a latte. There's even a subway sandwich bar in the external petrol service area. My favourite services on the UK network (and perhaps the motorway toll prevents too much abuse!). Excellent!
Chris, Wed 15 Apr 2009
It is very good and i vote it just 4/5 burgers
Luke Morriss, Tue 7 Apr 2009
I visit norton canes every year around 5 times, for the football, the service station is legendary, staff are good and always good to bond with the other fans there:D

loveley Services we stop here to go to the loo on the why to my nans. they are alwhy cleen
luke goodman, Wed 3 Sep 2008
Visited the services last week. It was not too busy, the toilets were clean, but food looked awful. Expensive too. Wimpy looked the most appetising option, but it took ages to get our order and the chips were cold. It was also very expensive. Not impressed, I won't be eating there again.
Trish, Thu 21 Aug 2008
Very busy, but freindly staff and clean toilets. Not happy about nearly £3 for a cup of coffee, but that's life.
Gary Newman, Mon 11 Aug 2008
In response to James's comment about the fact it is always busy is because if a coach with 40+ passengers pulls in the driver gets a voucher for not paying the toll. On my last visit there was 15+ coaches in there
Scott, Tue 10 Jun 2008
It's always really busy! I don't understand why the M6 toll normally seems quite quiet, but the services are always really busy.Nice enough building, all ok inside. Wish less other people used it.
James, Wed 4 Jun 2008
I dont appreciate people saying that wimpy does no work and we r "alseep" (james glover). we do our work to best we can and try our hardest to please our customers. if you do wait for food you wouldnt have to wait 20mins or in very rare cases! bout 6 mins at a max. we do have to cook it fresh and is not fast food as caz has sed! so unles u want food very rare cooked then wait a few minutes, u must b very impatient.
Wimpy Worker, Mon 11 Feb 2008
I have visited Costa Coffee twice here in the space of a month. Both times I was served by the same chap. I forget his name, but he makes the best cappuccino I have ever had at an MWS. He takes real care to get the milk right. A credit to these services!
John Franklin, Mon 10 Dec 2007
This is a very busy service station with very little to offer when you pass the nice frontage.
Very limited food choice, Costa, the expensive restaurant or the deserted Wimpy that looks closed.
I took my nearly £5 sandwich back to my car to be welcomed back by a 10 inch long rat.
I wish I had waited till Hopwood Park on the M42 which is a much better services.
Stephen C, Tue 13 Nov 2007
I happen to work on the wimpy on the m6 toll, and i have to say we very rarely get orders wrong and customers NEVER wait for an excess of 20 minuites for food. I was working 1-9pm yesterday and had a dreadfull customer who was trying to convince me that wimpy was fast food when in actually fact it is all cooked fresh! This perticular customer was very violent continuously getting other customers to gang up on staff because he was waiting 4 minuites for his large order to be cooked and ranting about it being fast food, he later took the time to write us a note and hand it in to me before running off, the note was full of threats and violence, people should NOT be treated like this at work, all I was trying to do was my job.
I find it very hard to believe how we can get your order wrong when it was one singular meal and I also find it hard to believe that you waited 15 minuites!
I treat my customers with respect and I believe in service with a smile, but it is hard to do this when you have a ranting customer claiming for example that their coach driver only gave them 5 minuites to get food or they have been waiting for more than a minuite and think its very clever to say "I thought this was fast food" when theres a massive sign saying "cooked fresh for you"!
I will make one more point - WIMPY IS NOT FAST FOOD, IT IS COOKED FRESH, WE ARE NOT MCDONALDS!
caz, Tue 30 Oct 2007
Regularly visit in car and motorhome. Excellent parking for both. Good for dog walking too. Costa coffee always excellent although queues can build up
Sarah, Wed 8 Aug 2007
Had my wallet stolen from my pocket after paying at costa coffee cash till. Duty manager didnt even suggest checking cctv. NOT impressed.
chris taylor, Mon 4 Jun 2007
As a regular traveller on m6 I thought I would start using m6 toll services, as approx' halfway, stopped again today(mon 30/04/07 third time in 3 days)I went to the WIMPY first stop,5 people before me not too bad short wait gave order,Waited nearly 20MINS for order then it was WRONG,threw away as no time to wait.Second visit thought I would give them another chance! what do you know! 15 min wait, WRONG ORDER again,in bin,no time.I must be to forgiving!! gave them another chance today,WRONG ORDER AGAIN after 15 min wait.Thought this was too much and return order and complain only to WAIT 15 mins for someone to come to see me and still did not receive my order until the duty manager arrived and I asked for it. GUESS WHAT!!!!!!! WRONG ORDER AGAIN.Avoid WIMPY at this stop staff are asleep despite all visits being afternoon.
james glover, Tue 1 May 2007
Only the coffee outlet was open, but the beverages were acceptable. Service was slow, and a queue was forming, but the facilities were clean.
RedHillian, Thu 4 Jan 2007
I am a truck driver and visit motorway services all over europe, today I had scampi and chips and the meal was fantastic, cooked perfectly and a good portion. The staff were also friendly and polite and I made a point of thanking them. The only problem was the lack of ventilation in the shower room which was a shame but overall I was very impressed. Thank you.
Gary Smith, Thu 31 Aug 2006
Best Motorway services i have been to. I drive coaches and have seen many services. None compare to Norton Canes always stop here when i am passing
Scott Miller, Thu 10 Aug 2006
Clean and very friendly. Staff are amazing. I personally met the CFO (Lord Bramall apparently!) in the queue - diamond! We bought a couple of Costa Coffees and chocolate muffins. Brilliant - and same price as the High Street, quite a surprise. They were also giving out free Peanut-Butter Kit-Kat samples. What a place! I'll stop here everytime. #1 vote for me. Good luck, Callum McCormick, CEO Barclay Anderson.
Callum, Wed 22 Mar 2006
A brief stop here on a cold Sunday afternoon to take a break en route from Essex to Manchester. Busy car park, but this isn't relected inside - the building is designed well to absorb the crowds. Everything you would expect to see, and all very well laid out. Looos very clean. Overall, one of the best services you could visit - they've got it right pretty much throughout.
Martin, Sat 18 Feb 2006
Some very fancy loos, but is always crowded, and the food choice isn't quite as good as at some other modern service stations. Tends to get uncomfortably hot in the summer. Avoid at mealtimes.
Edward Walkington, Fri 17 Feb 2006
Excellent services, toilets spotless, ambience good- a worthwile service area to stop at
