Tell us all about your experiences of this service area.
We did not visit the terminal building (just a petrol stop for us), but had a hard time navigating both in and out of the services due to poor signage.
We were dismayed to find that though the petrol station had three separate Costa express machines, none were working correctly and there were no signs to advise us of this - totally unacceptable! Had we known in advance, we would not have stopped here.
Will not be returning, 3/10.

The dining area floor is despicable. Totally uneven, an accident waiting to happen. I tripped with a tray of hot food. Fortunately I wasn't badly injured.

I see a lot of comments on this site directed to the actual services in question (as if this is their site - it isn't), I would advise people with questions and complaints to contact the relevant service area.
Craig Lalor, Tue 18 Aug 2015
I have a very clear photo, number plate clearly visible, of a large white van parked laterally across both Ecotricity charging bays, completely blocking access to the chargers. If you would like to issue a fine I will happily provide date, time and photographic evidence. Just post a reply here.
Stephen Moylan, Tue 27 Jan 2015
Did you really need to mention the fact that the attendant was foreign???
annalisa, Sun 25 Jan 2015
I was very disappointed to receive a parking fine for overstaying 2 hours in a disabled bay with my disabled passenger in the late hours of the night, when most services inside were shut and very few cars etc. Pretty disgusted £60 fine or £100 if not paid in 14 days, this is totally unreasonable. A disabled person needs more time and we had travelled early to London to sing at a special Remembrance service and were on our way homebound. I needed a break, as I am no longer a spring chicken! It has taken until today to receive the notice of a fine 10 days later. Shocked, horrified, appalled and ..........
Another, Fri 21 Nov 2014
BEWARE....stay over two hours and you'll get a £100 fine ! Instead use the ASDA coffee shop about half a mile away. The charges for overstaying are outrageous and do nothing for road safety and taking a break if tired. Its otherwise a great facility, but after using the loo's, buying food (£50+) filling up my car (£100) I then get landed with a fine for overstaying 10 mins. Never again ! I know where I'll take my business next time...and so should you ! Clue: it's not M40 Service Oxford.
Jgraeme, Tue 8 Apr 2014
Having had weekly meetings at this service station, spending on average £60-£80 per visit on refreshments for all, the six team members all received 'parking fines' for staying 2 hours and 10 minutes on the latest visit.
This service station and its partners has just lost my business, and the business that we do with others there - I estimate our spend to be in the region of £900 per month which we will now take to a venue that actually wants our business.
Regular Customer, Fri 21 Mar 2014
We often travel on the M40 and this service station is conveniently placed for us to use, being halfway to London from South Shropshire. However the cleanliness of the toilet facilities leaves much to be desired. Every time we stop there lately I see things that aren't being attended to on a regular basis. So today, without trying very hard to find things, the first cubicle I went in the door didn't close properly so couldn't be locked; the one I then went in, the flushing mechanism was loose, a large hole developing on the wall where it was fixed; splash marks all over the cubicle panels and the sanitry boxes; ill fitting grimy toilet seats; disgusting toilet brushes; floor tiles would benefit from daily steam cleaning. There were yellow signs, at least 4, stating that the toilets were being cleaned - but no cleaner apparent. When I was leaving the toilets a crowd of east Asians came in - which made me think about all the absolutely spotless public toilets I recently visited in Hong Kong and Singapore. Why can't your loos be as clean as theirs Even facilities I visited in Vietnam and some very basic ones in Cambodia were cleaner. Yours are more on a par with some we came across in Indonesia.

Between 1.30 and 2.00am on Wednesday November 13th a group of 9 of us tried to buy drinks at Eat in. The place was clearly open with all lights on. For some time we were unable to attract the attention of anyone to serve us. Eventually a man appeared carrying a laptop. He informed us that he was on his break, that he had a human right to have a break, that his break would last for half an hour and that he would not serve us. It was the only place open that served hot food and tea. We had to buy coffee from a machine in W H Smith. What a poor advert for British service for the overseas visitors whom we had collected from Gatwick Airport. Several other travellers were treated in the same way.

Will not be stopping at Oxford services again. On the 16th September at 07:20 3 people behind the counter serving breakfast and apart from the man on the till the other paid no attention to serving me.So went hungry after being on the road for 5 hours.
Slack is just not the word.
Going to Warwick services were the service is much better.
David Gardener, Mon 16 Sep 2013
Visited Oxford services approx 19.00 hours Wednesday 21st August, while returning from day out at Warwick Castle with my Wife.I am 60 years old, a Professional in the Hazard Materials industry and hold multiple degrees in Safety and Hazard services. My Wife is a 56 year old School Teacher. I mention these points to indicate the fact that neither of us would qualify as "Trouble makers or louts".While eating a meal purchased at Burger King, my wife noticed a staff member, who was wearing a yellow Hi Vis jacket with "Security" written on the back, he was placing dining area chairs across the "Emergency Exit" doors next to BK. As this would be OUR nearest exit, she asked why he was blocking the exit. I am unable to write his response, as my wife would not repeat the words used. She moved a chair, and was then followed to her seat opposite me, when this same staff member challenged her in a most threatening manner.I will not weary you with the comments made, but they were sufficient to force me to step between him and her, as I really feared he was getting too physical.Long Story - short version, he stated he would call the police and the duty manager. We sat there for 35 minutes - nothing happened. We then approached another staff member, who introduced us to the Duty Manager (wearing a Welcome break Badge - Name Annalisa Savino). We advised her of the issue, which she had been given different details of by the Security Chap. She told us that she had not instructed him to block the fire Exit. She also told us that she did not known his name or details, as he did not report to her.At this point, the unnamed gentlemen returned to the building, and when summoned by Ms Savinio, he proceeded to verbally attack my Wife, shouting that she could not talk to him, and threatening to "Throw me out. When Ms Savino tried to calm him down, he told her to shut up, and when another passing customer suggested that I get the two police standing in line for coffee involved, this very aggressive man quite literally "Went for him and his Wife" threatening to get rid of him also.My Company, and all my staff, my entire family and their own families have used the Oxford services since it's opening, as a point of rest before arriving home.We have always felt safe. Not anymore. All that my Wife tried to do, was ensure her safety and that of everyone else in the building (65% full). The actions of this one staff member, who states he is following company procedures, was shocking. I really do not know what to say, other than that I fear for anyone coming into this Rest stop.I am actually worried that this staff member may seek us out.

Went in the half term to collect my kids from their Granny, I came from London, they came from Bath.
I used Starbucks about £20, Burger King about £30. Granny was late, I got a £100 pound fine a week later through the post for staying in the car park too long.
It is a complete con, don't get caught like I did. Sadly you live in a world where execs. sit round a table and come up with all kinds of nasty ways to take your hard earned cash, it is totally wrong, I hope this helps some others
D Corbin, Sun 11 Nov 2012
Whilst I was in the services on Tuesday, someone hit my car and caused some damage, please can you advise whether you have cameras on site & how long you keep recordings for to enable me to supply my solicitor with the information? The incident happened at 12:20pm on Tuesday 04/09/12.
Danielle Kay, Fri 7 Sep 2012
My husband is disabled & has great difficulty walking - after choosing food at Eat In he cannot get to sit down at the tables as there is a step - why can't there be a ramp at the nearest end for those who can't walk well? The only flat access is at the very far end which is too far for those who are unlucky enough not to be able to walk, or by Starbucks where there is no hot food available.
Margaret, Mon 3 Sep 2012
The ladies' toilets were in a bad state. Some blocked, others not flushed, broken seats, and no attendant. One to avoid if possible,
potto, Mon 20 Aug 2012
one of my favorite service stations in the country, great welcome atmosphere some great cafes and restaurants from starbucks to KFC to shops like WHsmith.
Shaun, Fri 15 Jun 2012
I stopped here on the way back from holiday. services were clean nice food would recommend to anyone
Henry Wade, Tue 1 May 2012
The ladies toilet facilities in this service station were absolutlely disgusting when we visited on 7/8 March 2012.No visible attendant, lots of toilets had not even been flushed!!!,(did not smell fresh!), every toilet bowl had brown stains & loose broken seats, urine on some floors,no loo paper, handbasins not clean, taps leaked when pressed, one tap was running constantly with hot water.!!Visited again on 17 March. Male, foreign attendant appeared on this visit. The facilities still not clean enough considering used by Foodhall Visitors....Same tap still running constantly with hot water!!!! mentioned to foreign attendant but am sure nothing was done.Wonder how long its been running wasting resources and your water bill?I can see a update is desperately needed but no excuse for bad management, hygiene and staff training.
Christine Cooper, Tue 20 Mar 2012
this is one of the best and clean service station i ever been to full marks to the staff

I tried to contact the site by telephone to enquire about parking. All the options offered either ring out with no answer or give the number unobtainable tone. What a hopeless service!! If you have this problem you can ring the main Welcome Break number - (0)1908 299 700 - where someone helpful will answer.AG

Visited the Oxford services twice in 24 hours and both there and back used the ladies toilets. On each occaision found the cleaners store cupboard open with what appeared to be the same mop/broom handle asymetrically straddling the supplies stacked on the floor. This suggested to me on my return visit that there was no cleaner and no management monitoring the situation. I would be very concerned if a child went unattended into the ladies with current situation
Deborah Crewe, Sat 21 Jan 2012
I was most disturbed to observe small flies landing and crawling over the uncovered cakes in the Eat Inn section at the Oxford services this afternoon. Every other food section had their food packaged or covered until served. I feel that hygiene considerations were being overlooked and subsequently did not purchase food from their section.
Friday 9th Dec 9.30pm. Toilets had the most offensive smell. I can only think that If the toilets are ever cleaned, the cleaners must have missed a bit - maybe just overlooked a cubicle full of rotting mackerel.
Equally disgusting is charging 9p a litre extra for unleaded.

I am trying to contact these services for their Lost Property department - can't find that either on their site - useless.
Mrs Jean Skinner, Tue 29 Nov 2011
Thanks for the advice, going to give this service a miss next time

i visited the services for a meeting with a colleage from up north as this was an easy meeting point for both parties, we overdone our stay of 2 hours and was fined £60.00 parking!! a complete and utter insult after having several coffees and food a 170 mile round trip and a fine they will not ever get my service again and i will recommend these services to no one!!! if you are feeling tired whilst driving and you need a rest i would suggest you book into a hotel it will be cheaper than falling asleep or resting in there car park !!!!
terry, Tue 2 Aug 2011
I went to have a meeting with some work colleagues and stayed more than the 2 hours. Ended up with an automated £60 parking fee in the post.Did not notice the signs, well you dont expect them do you. They are missing a trick here. We spent alot of money on lunch etc but will not be meeting or even calling in there again. Why dont they have a meeting area with facilities. They could make good money as it is easy to get to from north or south bound and is nice and central.

I have often called into this services and been happy with the service although today when we went i could not wait to get out of the place. We went to the store that sold toasted sandwiches, drinks and fried food and it is safe to say it is the worst customer service I have received in England. The person who served us ' changed tills and without letting us know and then rudely shouted 'this till now!' with a very loud sigh. All members off staff were sighing as if their job was too hard and we were wasting there time. When I requested to have my sandwich toasted it seemed as though it was too much effort although there is a large sign stating they encourage toasting sandwiches. We were extremely disappointed wit the service.

I suggest people avoid Burger King at this service station at all costs. I ate at Burger King (Aberdeen Angus steak burger & fries) on Wed 9th Feb and have had food poisoning since that time (now Sat 12th Feb). The price of the meal was an expensive £7.99 and the reason for this, according to the box, was the "high-quality" steak in the burger. The continuing cost is food-poisoning and not being able to eat for 4 days subsequently. The BK kitchen needs to be investigated...
C Carter, Sat 12 Feb 2011
I made the big mistake of ordering a chicken royale meal at Burger King last weekend on my way south.... The coffee was extremely stewed and the worst I have tasted in a very long time. The chicken was very bland and although shown with a lettuce filling mine had about three pieces the size of a postage stamp - fries were average with the one redeeming feature of being hot. For £5.99 I did expect much better and advise everyone to use McDonalds a few miles further North on the A43. Needless to say I will avoid BK in future.
Michael Martin, Tue 16 Nov 2010
I have always found these services to have clean toilets. However when I stopped to use them today at 5.30pm they were the worst I have seen anywhere for a long time. I looked in several toilets before using one.All the toilet bowls were stained brown and some had not been flushed at all. The sinks were also in need of a good scrub. There was no sign of an attendant. You really need to clean these toilet facilities more thoroughly. It puts our country to shame!
jenny, Sun 24 Oct 2010
I must start off by being completely honest, if you intend to purchase anything at this service station (or any service station in the Britain for that matter) you will need to take out a new mortgage on your home, however if you take price out of the equation you are set for a great day out! Oxford services are very clean and depending on what time of the day you make your stop parking is more than adequate. Moving on from the car park you will then be welcomed by a short walk to one of the nicest, cleanest service stations you are likely to have the benefit of experiencing in your driving lifetime, it feels brand spanking new and you are bound to feel more relaxed once leaving. there is plenty of indoor or outside space to take a break whether you are purchasing food or you have brought your own cheese and marmite sandwiches.Inside there is plenty of food to choose from and you won't end up with salmonella poisoning.I can only account for the gents however they are cleaner than most public toilets I have had the horror of emptying myself in, after which it is more than easy to pick up a mean cup of tea.
Paddy, Tue 27 Jul 2010
It's a scandal that the prices have not been reduced in line with the reduced services available at the site. Food is poorly served up with eggs reduced to a rubbery texture due to time on hot plate. Very poor.
Patrick Nulty, Tue 27 Jul 2010
That wooden decking around the outside enterance is a death trap when wet!I went a right cropper on Sunday. It should be ropped off during wet periods or replaced by a more apropriate surface for public use.
Kevin Lee, Wed 19 May 2010
The new parking system is automatic. i paid in the shop for a days parking but the system is faulty so i keep receiving aggressive letters about fines. Don't leave your car there!
lisa martin, Thu 15 Apr 2010
I only went there from a nearby town because I fancied a late night Burger King. Arrived sometime around midnight to find BK was shut - so that isn't 24hrs. Rest of the place looked alright but I didn't stay around for more than a few mins.
Chris A, Mon 25 Jan 2010
When it opened it was brilliant - now it's never good and usually bad. Today the toilets were filthy and my wife had difficulty finding one that was even good enough to use. The staff generally seem to be working OK except obviously there's a high turnover so some seem less trained then they might be. Maybe there's not enough staff or they are badly organised - either way, my once favorite services from a few years ago is now almost the worst services that I use (Bridgend is probably still worse but I haven't tried it for a while). Thank goodness there's now a viable alternative at Beaconsfield!
Peter G Pope, Fri 27 Nov 2009
Lovely breakfast, not cheap but we are planning to stop there again when we next do a that route! Also good shop and clean toilets, comfortable seating and nice view with water feature outside!
Lisa Clark, Sun 6 Sep 2009
We were pleasantly surprised with the facilities and ambiance of the services. This is the first motorway service station where we didn't feel we had to leave as soon as possible to get back on the road. The staff were extemely cheerful, and pleasant. We were able to relax and take a proper break in pleasant surroundings.10/10

It now has a little Waitrose too ... wicked
Steve, Fri 21 Aug 2009
When we visited at about 5.30 AM yesterday, there was only one young woman on the food counter where we got our breakfast She was rushed off her feet and so when we found that our (very expensive) breakfasts were really cold we didn't complain, though I would normally have asked for them to be reheated. I understand that sickness can happen at short notice but I really felt that more staff should have been on duty if you were going to keep the counter open.
Sarah Stille, Mon 2 Feb 2009
Despite always being busy, this is one of the better service stations. Decent choice, quick(ish) service and clean with good summer facilities.
george patterson, Thu 8 Jan 2009
Hi.I had the misfortune to use the gents toilets last night at the services - they were a total disgrace, you should be ashamed! These particular services must get visited by lots of foreign tourists and it's no wonder Britain has the name it has. As well as being in a poor state of repair I watched a male cleaner very half heartedly 'wipe' around the basin surface with a dirty cloth - this is not to mention the smell of urine that was present!!!!A poor state of repair is one thing but they were simply disgusting!
Colin Bennett, Tue 16 Dec 2008
Recently visited (25/02/2008) here driving up from Heathrow to Nottingham after arriving from US. It was around 1p.m. I wanted a toilet break. The state of the toilet was appalling. No water in some toilets, toilets not flushed, flush not working, toilet doors not closing, toilet paper strewn all over - I could go on. It was a disgrace. Fortunately I was not accompanied by my family. will never visit the services again.

We visit these services on new years eve every year. We think it is fantastic! Why not drop in from about 3pm. See you there!
Jono Munday, Sun 31 Dec 2006
overall the services were OK but I had the worst fish and chips i have had for many years
Ken Debley, Tue 28 Nov 2006
Note about the comment regarding the comment about the services not being in Oxford, but called Oxford Services. I can't beleive anyone would be sad enough to want to take the time to make inane comments on sites like this one.
Neil, Wed 23 Aug 2006
Note on the comment about the name of the services. As they are governed by the Highways Act on many things, the name of the site may not have been a choice.
e, Wed 17 May 2006
Absolutely the worst "fresh filter coffee" I have ever tasted. The two of us just had to leave it unfinished. This was in 2006.
Paul Thomassen, Tue 7 Mar 2006
Fine service station, especially on sunny days, when the outside area is fantastic to sit in, with plenty of space for the kids to run around. Nice loos too.
Edward Walkington, Fri 17 Feb 2006
Big, clean, impersonal and badly misnamed. You are nowhere near Oxford here, but you are quite near Wheatley, which I believe was the original proposed name. Suffers from leafletters and canvassers near the front door at most hours. I already have all the credit cards I want, thanks, and I really don't need another mobile phone
