fell asleep as absolutely shattered - entered at 05.45 and left at at 10.00. now got a charge notice for £100. been told not to pay it as 'tiredness can kill - take a break' and CP Plus cannot enforce this charge notice. anyone else had this?

We were doing an important day /night road safety audit on the 28 july 2014 on the A23. We stopped to have a small meal at the services just after 8 pm. We ate at the Burger King - since not much else was open. The mens toilets stank so strongly that it made you feel ill and the 'janitors' cupboard hung open and flies were in and out into the toilet area. Wet rotting clothes and all manner of urine and unclean smells. There were flies sitting on the serving area of the burger king. No drinks except water and coffee available at bruger king. We sat in the salon area and large groups of flies harassed us through our meal. Finally we were boxed in with chairs as the cleaners 'closed up', dragging open rubbish bags behind them.
Call this a first world country. I have seen much better in poorer countries.
phil morris, Tue 29 Jul 2014
we stopped at this motorway stop yesterday senior people on a day out coffee to expensive and mens toilets were smelly not good enough

I had a problem whilst visiting the Moto Pease Pottage services in November 2013. I contacted staff who were very helpful and understanding, especially the site manager. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were able to help and resolve the issue completely satisfactorily. Excellent personal service.
Andrew Barlow, Mon 9 Dec 2013
Stopped here to get a costa. Unbelievably expensive, took 2 employees 15 minutes to male 2 cups of coffee, and they didn't actually put any coffee in mine. £3.69 for a large cup of hot milk. Unacceptable. & rude to boot. If going north hold on till Claket lane
Dan Holcombe, Mon 18 Nov 2013

Fuel price is disgusting! Everywhere at the moment has dropped to average 137.9 (diesel) and they are charging 149.9! Toilets where out of order, I hope the customers dry up at the fuel station, do not stop for fuel!
Max long, Wed 2 Oct 2013
Stopped for breakfast on a coach trip. Worst breakfast I have ever been served - cold, dry, greasy. Asked for bread and butter instead of toast and got dried up stale bread with no butter. Didn't have time to complain. Also very expensive at £6.49 for a small, rubbish meal.
Nick Hough, Mon 30 Sep 2013
Are you a 24hour services ? thanks...
Pete, Wed 3 Jul 2013
Have stopped here regularly over the past couple of years to use the wonderful little M&S shop. Had a wonderful surprise tonight to discover they now do a good selection of wine and beer. Thanks M&S.

I am sorry to hear of your frustration regarding the parking charge. If I can direct you to the Moto website where you can obtain the contact details for the site, I would be more than happy to help you with the issue.

Pam - I am so sorry to hear of your experience at Pease Pottage, if I can direct you to the Moto website to obtain the site contact details. I will more than happy to refund the cost of the meals.
Chrissie - I am so sorry to hear of your experience at Pease Pottage, if I can direct you to the Moto website to obtain the site contact details. I will more than happy to refund the cost of the meals.
When visiting your services yesterday, we decided to have a meal. The fish and chips we ordered were not acceptable. The fish batter so crisp it was difficult to eat and the fish inside batter floating in grease. Both myself and my husband were unable to eat this meal and after an extremely difficult journey were too tired to complain but now I feel this situation shouldn't be dismissed.
This food way below acceptable standards and we certainly not use these services again
Pam kempton, Mon 17 Jun 2013
I too stopped at this services to have lunch with a friend and today received a parking fine of £90.00. I use service stations a lot and have never been charged for stopping for lunch before. Having spoken to a member of staff at the Pease Pottage services she confirmed that there are notices up to say what the parking charges are. I guess that is all well and good if you are actually looking but I never thought there were any charges. A shame as my friend also received a parking notice too so neither of us will be coming to lunch at Pease Pottage any more, but there are many other pubs/garden centres in the area that dont charge you to park your car and pay for a nice lunch. So to anyone reading this just beware.
Chrissie Purnell, Mon 18 Mar 2013
My wife and I usually stop here on the way to visit our daughter in Brighton, and we are very impressed in the upgrading of the facilities and change in service over the last 2 years. It is pleasant to see a team of staff and managers who want to/and actually do improve the service & products continually. I had recently fed back to the site, areas which I felt could still be improved. And I was surprised and pleased that the Site Manager called me to discuss. Great job Moto and Pease Pottage.
Arthur McSagitt, Tue 21 Aug 2012
Stopped here for the very first time the other day. I was most impressed with the facilities, toilets clean and well maintained. There was a reasonable selection of food given the time of day. The staff were very polite, I don't want this to sound patronizing but they really were.
I don't normally do this run but will certainly call here again, all I would say is why is there such a difference in Moto Services? Some Moto MSA on the M1 & M6 are utterly dire. Seems the Management at Pease Pottage & Trowell need to get out to the other sites and show them how it should be done.
Gary Farrimond, Sat 7 Jul 2012
Mrs Evans, Pease Pottage is open 24 hours a day with the Eat & Drink Co Restaurant serving hot food during this time. We look forward to seeing you..
Area General Manager, Sat 5 May 2012
Your website does not state whether the services are open 24hrs or if not what the operating times are. We've used Pease Pottage services in the past during the day & found them acceptable. However, this time we will be coming through about 6 am & would like some breakfast!
Hazel Evans, Thu 3 May 2012
This is the motorway service station that I always use on my way to visit family, and this is because it is always clean and friendly environment, even the customers seem to be at ease, no pushing and shoving - might I say a relaxed atmosphere to a motorway service station! HAHAH. Keep up the good work guys!!!
Aimee, Wed 11 Apr 2012

Pease Pottage Management, Sat 10 Mar 2012
Re "parking scam"! I have used these services for more than 30 years and have never had a problem..untill now! I dont know when these parking restrictions were brought in, but as other users have said on here...they are a scam!I visited recently, and met up with my son...had an expensive lunch and a few coffees..got chatting, and didnt even notice the time, and as I had not been looking for any parking restiction notices, the time was irelevant anyway to me.Not only have I just received a notice for a £50 parking overstay, this would have been NINETY POUNDS after 28 days! How on earth can MOTO condone this disgraceful situation...even if I did stay over my alloted time in error....how can a charge of £90 or even £50 be in anyway justified? i have spent probably thousands here over the years, and will NEVER use any moto services again! And if this IS Illegal as has been said here, then WHY are MOTO allowing this illegal activity on their site? Im taking it further...If your planning to stop here in the future...just dont, would be my advice.
robert keen, Tue 6 Mar 2012
Whilst the service area is fine, as other posts have indicated..beware of the parking scam ! I too ended up with a £50 fine as I fell asleep after pulling in for 40 winks.I was falling asleep driving..so this seemed the sensible thing to do, but underestimated just how tired I was..so safety of myself and other road users took priority.DO NOT pay up...they have no legal right to fine you..although theye were more than happy to take almost £15 from me for food etc before issuing the fine !! You CANNOT be pursued in court if you refuse to pay. Only a police officer or local authority can issue a PCN (Penalty Charge Notice) Moto use clever wording..thier PCN means Parking Charge Notice !! So..just tell them that you need proof of who was driving at the time ;O).Loads of good advice on google folks.

I visit Brighton once per year in August, each year on my visit I stop into Pease Pottage when I pass heading Southbound, then again heading out of Brighton.
Over the years the Services has undergone a metamorphosis, it has been sprinkled with outstanding brands which now include West Cornwall Pasty and many Costa outlets. This is especially good as you still undoubtedly experience some queues, but they are small and well managed. The carpark has been improved, new toilets/showers, new conservatory and a new extended and improved WHS.
This site is cosy & modernised and although some of the old managerial faces remain, there is a new efficient ethos.
Well done Pease!
Nigel Jockey, Wed 21 Sep 2011
There is no doubt that this is one of the best services I have stopped at! The queue's are low, the toilets are very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful! What they have recently done to the car park is a great improvement! Some other services should take note!
Ash, Tue 20 Sep 2011
After a long stressful drive, it' just nice to know that there are curtious staff at this at this particular service area
Richard Mann, Tue 20 Sep 2011
I use this service station regularly on my way to visit family in this area. I found that the staff have always been very helpful and friendly and service is efficient.
Acrb, Tue 20 Sep 2011
i've used this site many, many times over the last few years to meet friends on our way to worthing, and i honestly don't have a bad word to say about it. the loo's have always been clean, the staff have been polite, as i said nothing to complain about.
having read some of the complaints on here, people seem to have very high expectations. i mean complaining that your food was cold after 10 mins, food does cool down once it's coked. and that you had to pay for sauce? i've had to pay at every burger king i've ever been to, it just seems to be their policy.
and being charged for falling asleep in your car for three hours is perfectly fair, given that the signs tell you it's only free for 2hrs. just because you are needing a rest doesn't mean you don't have to pay like everyone else!
also the other morning (4am) i stopped to find all the food area's closed for hot food and the one member of staff there was very helpfull and pointed me towards the dominoes a couple mins away in crawley which he knew to be 24hrs

Toilets are absolutely disgusting. I went with 2 small children and nearly walked out if they weren't desperate.
Nikki Vincent, Fri 26 Aug 2011
Disabled toilet was an absolute disgrace, ie: urine all over the floor and had obviously not been properly cleaned for some time. Dirty sink and toilet paper all over the floor. I had to use the regular toilet which faired no better. I will not be visiting again for sure.
ken stephenson, Sat 13 Nov 2010
Stayed one night with caravan, Oct. 2010. Was a bit worried about staying at services with caravan, dog & disabled husband. It was a bit noisy & busy but staff were very helpful & friendly & made us feel safe & welcome. Would definitely recommend.
k livington, Tue 26 Oct 2010
have you paid your bill yet? if not i would think twice before doing so check if this scam is actually legal, they will send threatening letters that look legal. In my experiance they have never taken any one to court for not paying. They play on peoples fears whom pay straight away this far outweighs the ones that dont so its a game of chance for them yes they will send more letters but will anything come of this I think not. Check on the internet for more advise before parting with any money there is a lot of advise out there
Dosser666, Wed 8 Sep 2010
PAID FOR PARKING. OVER 2 HRS.WEEK LATER I GOT A PAKING FINE FOR 100 QUID .?
will, Wed 8 Sep 2010
Totally incompetent staff in the fuel service side - Beware they take your commercial fuel card and then give it to another driver ( in error! ) When you try to sort out they are not helpful. Give this one a miss when filling up!
Chris, Thu 5 Aug 2010
I really liked it . We stopped there twice . First time on the way to Brighton and second time on the way back. Both times mainly to feed and change our baby . It wasnt the best or biggest but it was small and friendly and just what we needed at the time . Would use again on our next trip to brighton
Rod Walton, Wed 21 Jul 2010
Toilets are awful and have been for months! One of the toilets in the cubicles has a small leak which leaves the floor in all cubicles wet. Not pleasant as your trousers can get wet whilst you are using the facilities. Moto apologised and promised to fix immeidately...that was 6 months ago and still no fix!!!!!
Mark Cook, Fri 16 Oct 2009
I had been stuck on the M 25 for nearly 6hours before I came here so had never been more glad to see services,I had a pannini and coffee with exelent service and my only complaint is the car park was too dark,as a woman alone I was going to clean my mirrors and windows before I finished my journey but felt far too worried to stand alone in a dark car park at 11pm at night.
mrs baker, Fri 11 Sep 2009
Had a 3 hour sleep after a day out at Brighton. Despite car park being empty we are now being charged a 50 pound fine.
IF I hadn't had the 3 hour sleep an accident may of occured on the motorway.
Maybe I will just keep driving instead.
ONly 1 staff on site and he was miserable.
Richard Daubney, Mon 13 Jul 2009
Small, but it makes it nice. it does well, even though was raining hard at the time!
James, Sun 2 Nov 2008
This site requires better policing of it's parking areas. It's all too common to find cars in the coach bays, despite the car bays being empty. Blocking them in whilst you have a compulsory 45 minute break doesn't foster good relations!
cycoticpenguin, Sun 12 Oct 2008
Visited this week and much improved from earlier comments, now has M&S coffee shop and a new restaurant. Staff were busy but pleasant - good choice clean and tidy - much much better than before
Tim Spedding, Sun 30 Dec 2007
Stopped for food recently in the evening. It was freshly prepared and good quality. If it had been served up in a pub you wouldn't complain. Expensive for ham egg & chips but no more so than any other service area. Best one I've eaten at in a while.
Phil Galloway, Sat 29 Dec 2007
i went to this service area and the staff at the BK where listenung to loud music they where very unhelpful charged me 10p for a bbq thing and other services don't charge atall the parking is appauling the chips where stone cold after 10 minutes altogether a rubbish services and it was the easter hols the place was very quietand it took 5-10 mins to get my food DON'T USE
phlcauseway, Tue 24 Apr 2007
Colleagues at work have recently experienced an alarming situation when trying to get petrol from the Shell garage at this service station. She found a sign on each pump saying she was required to pay for the fuel before filling up. When she entered the shop they told her they expected her to leave her credit/debit card with them while she used the pump. Needless to say, she refused. She used the cash machine, filled up, then attempted to pay in cash. Initially they were reluctant to take cash for the payment, but obviously eventually they had to. Be warned.
Emma, Wed 28 Feb 2007
Dismal, unhelpfull staff, never again
phil hornby, Mon 10 Jul 2006
A small services but friendly staff and some good food. I found it useful to wait here for flight arrival at Gatwick Airport - only 10 mins away.
Stephen Poulton, Fri 31 Mar 2006
A tiny place just off the old A23. Has a small burgerking and a standard self-serve restaurant/cafe. A bacon sandwich cost me over £4.00. Friendly staff in a place that might well come into it's own now that the little chefs on the A23 are going/gone.
Sarah Morris, Mon 29 Aug 2005
