I have just returned from a great break in cornwall with the caravan and family. We were amazed at how busy Sedgemoor Services can actually be. We often stop off there so we can rest, re-fuel and walk our two dogs. We were absolutely stunned at how busy the place was. We all queued to get different food and drinks but we just wanted to highlight to all the critisim that the staff were all flat out. With new outside units making it quicker to get served my whole family commented on separate times on how pleasent but very busy the staff that work there. Thanks again to all the staff for making our holiday start with a relaxed start to our holiday. The Stephens family

I also recieved a parking fine for £90 (reduced to £50 for prompt payment) It was not my intention to sleep in my car however after a long journey and being pregnant I had to stop due to almost falling asleep at the wheel. I realise that I am to blame for my over stay however it wasn't a busy time, the car park was sparse and I begrudge having to pay such a steep fine. I now feel as though in the future I will just have to carry on my journey regardless of 'Tiredness kills take a break' signs and hope for the best. Thanks Sedgemoor services for ripping off another motorist!

I was unfortunate enough to have to pull in to the car park in the early hours of 16 Sep due to tiredness. I had already tried to book into the RoadChef at Newbury off the A34 but it was full and they were unable to get my a booking elsewhere, so I attempted to complete my journey. After a good sleep in the car I carried on to my destination. The parking fine is £80 (reduced to £50 for prompt payment) far in excess of the cost of a good room for the night. Its a lesson learned and I will not forget to avoid all RoadChef accommodation in the future. This is just another way to obtain money from the motorist. I failed to see the sign re parking which was my fault, my point is the level of parking fine is way over the top - considering the car park had very few vehicles in it at the time £50-£80 is excessive by any measure.

I have visited a fair range of motorway services in the many years of travelling in the UK but our experience of Sunday evening 14th August was that Sedgemoor M5 southbound was the worst ever experience .Having landed at Bristol airport and wanting a meal to tide us on our way to Ilfracombe we arrived at Sedge-moor at approx 20.30 hrs.The main restaurant was in a state of closure with no server , there was a man at the till who was not interested or offering assistance. The Food that was left on the bain marie was tired, dried out and totally uninviting. We went to the Burger company to be appalled by the prices and then the delay in service. The drinks machine (Pepsi)was not operable and we were offered a watery coffee as an alternative. The fries were cold, and the bacon burger was as if it had been swept off the floor and mixed with saw dust. We were the last customers as all the other people who followed us in were refused service as the facility was closed. The tables were filthy, and marked with numerous previous meal leftovers, the chairs were greasy and sticky as was the floor, and was all in dire need of cleaning and redecoration. As it was located next to the toilets there was a constant foul smell not conducive to enjoying was was passed off as a meal.
If I had the authority to call in the local health inspector I am sure the whole facility would be closed down as a health risk. What an introduction to Britain for any foreign visitors. For long enough I have been ashamed of our motorway facilities as travelling abroad gives higher expectations of quality, choice of food and cleanliness.
When are we going to get our act together and make Britain's motorway facilities something of which we can be proud. There are two privately owned facilities on the M6 going north in Cumbria that are in that category of well managed clean and quality food . I would be ashamed to trade under the Road chef name and will avoid such services in future unless in dire need.

I have travelled most years down the M5 to start our summer holiday. We always stop at Sedgemoor services southbound for a relaxing rest and re-fuel the stomach. Our family always like to stop there as there is always friendly staff and a place for walking our dog. This year we were pleasently surprised to see more outside units open and serving us public. This meant we did not have to wait as long and were able to enjoy more of the sunshine and even a soft sccop ice cream from Lovington's.
The small site does get extreamly busy and I can only say to all the staff well done as you only here the critisim and never praise for these motorway providers.
Thanks Sedgemoor Services Roadchef for a great start to our holiday

I agree with the below coment from tony ford, i all so had the same problem and i am appauled at the cp car parking staff. I pulled over to rest as the police are always telling you to stop and take a rest if you need to as tiredness kills, so i thought i was doing the right thing. It was nighttime so the signs were not even clear that you have to pay if you exceed two hours!! infact we saw no signs what so ever in the dark!! came home and there was my fine in the post! so much for safety first!

Don't waste your time queueing for The Burger Company's burgers. Once you have stood in the queue for so long you start to question whether you even want to eat anything, you will be served by a surly teenager who really thinks he is much better than all this, he then will take what feels like an age to give you your drink, not communicate with you about how long your food will take, then serve some other people behind you equally as slowly, then when your food is ready he will then give it to someone else, as he never made eye contact with you he doesn't know who you are. So when you have reclaimed your food, it will taste about as good as school dinners did (back before Jamie Oliver did something about them). But then that is if you are lucky, in my case I got to the front of the queue and the member of staff went on his break, and I had to wait for the next surly teenager to amble over and then think about doing his job.
Seriously roadchef, give up and let the proper fast food outlets serve FAST food efficiently.

Great site - great service and the staff were fab in helping with my family and allowing us relax and re-group for our journey down the M5.
Thank you to all the Restaurant team who were so very patient whilst being very busy with other customers.
Thank you

I am a frequest traveller on the Motorway network and I also enjoy camping in the UK. I have to say that whilst there is alot of criticism of Motorway stops many people dont I think realise how busy these areas can get. My personal favourite stop is Sedgemoor Southbound on the M5. I stop here for rest stops with my work and also on route to a campsite. The staff are always friendly and the quality of food good. I have seen this Motorway stop very quiet and on the other hand absolutely over filled with customers. So while the others critisie well done to this stop for making my travelling far more relaxed.

I would like to make two complaints. The first one is the fact that the shower wasn't working when I stopped there after a 15 hour day in a lorry cab, the least I expect after paying to park on a piece of land is the ability to cleanse myself after work. Instead I am faced with a notice apologising for any inconvenience, but NO sign of a plumber to repair the shower facility.
My second complaint is the the nonchalant attitude of the staff member in the shop@(19.15 on 11th/Oct/2010)when I mentioned the fact that I had just paid to park and wasn't going to be able to shower. I was asked "what did I expect them to do?" I said "that there were at least 15 lorries outside that have all paid to park and the money they had paid would easily cover an on call plumber" he just shrugged at me and mumbled some inaudible comment. I then mentioned that after he had finished work he could pop into a shower before getting into his bed unlike myself. I could have parked on a piece of land for nothing and received the same level of service. This is a continuing problem with Roadchef, British truckers are treated like scum and as long as we pay to park everything is ok with you.
I will be sending my complaint to the national papers with the vain hope that somebody somewhere might actually show us some respect and dignity.

your flushes on the wall are in the wrong place. i sat in there one day when i moved i got a wet bottom. now if you moved the flushes up so when people move. they wouldnt get a wet bottom. so please do some thing to put this right

I am appalled by the action of CP Plus car parking staff who booked us for overstaying the 2 hr limit by 5 minutes. This is really over-zealous!Motorists should be given some leeway as they are elsewhere. This isn't very good for public relations and unless the notice is rescinded we wont be using the site again. The M5 is awash with road safety notices encouraging drivers to take a break and when we do we get 'fined'. A more relaxed approach should be taken and perhaps awarning given - not just slapping a notice on a windscreen.

Tony Ford, 3 August 2010

i was disgusted this morning at the way the manager of the resturant name of rachel spoke to a member of staff infront of customers this is not the first time i have heard her talk to staff in this manner as i am a regular to this site i am a manager in retail and know how to approach members of staff if any problems arise and it certaintly is not in the way this manager conducts herself her attidute to customers and staff should be on a professional level hers is certainly not

hannah, 26 July 2010

Disgusting toilets, unprofessional stuff at Costa, treating people in the worst possible manner and putting us in danger. Avoid!

Nick, 7 July 2010

We recently stopped at Costa Coffee at Sedgemoor Services (M5 South - Operated by Roadchef)for a drink. Floors, tables and chairs were absolutely filthy, full of all sorts of food, wrapping papers, boxes, etc. Furthermore, the staff of that branch cleaned the chairs but also the tables (!!!) and then the floor underneath the tables using floor brushes and dustpans that were also filthy and full of dirt and dust. Appalling standards and a huge danger to health and safety, especially if you have children. Avoid if you can.

Loukas, 7 July 2010

This is actually operated by Roadchef and the address/postcode is different to the northbound site.

Going south on the m5 - the family stopped off at the roadcafe sedgemoor - thinking foolishly we could grab a quick fry up we were horrified that during what was an obviously very business time - there was little or no food available and was being cooked on request. The presentation of dry beans and a couple of sausages was rather pathetic. The soup was a dried up affair at the bottom of the urn. The people there were lovely - but I have yet to experience decent quick food - so of course we popped into costa coffee. After traveling on road across Europe and witnessing first hand the excellent quality and presentation (and availability) of food at all the stops we made - why oh why is it do difficult to get it in the UK

Very impressed with the playground and picnic area. Although the playground is small, the climbing frame packs a lot of activities into it, my 3 kids still had to be dragged away after more than half an hour there.

Judith Swift, 21 June 2009

My wife and I, although able to drive, are both disabled. We were unable to park in a disabled space, because there were only 4, and they were all full. Not disabled friendly!!

bazz, 23 November 2008

I was on my way back home from summercamp and we stopped at these services. I don't know where to report this so i just came on here.
My phone slipped out of my pocket and i have lost it in these services, it is a sony ericson W810i.
If there is any information on the whereabouts of my phone please get in touch with me!
Thankyou

Sedgemoor Services Southbound Fuel supplier is Total not Shell (useful for those people with Total Cards heading down to the South West where Total is a minority supplier)

Martin, 1 May 2008

to Sheila Hambly,Chris Hall& Mrs Walburn May I respectfully inform you that your comments could possibly not refer to Roadchef, Sedgemoor Services M5 SOUTHBOUND

Derek Smith, 5 October 2007

we were waiting for a welcome breakon our way home to wales but the service station toilets and bins were so disgusting we did not use any of the facilities and quickly left.we certainly would not have eaten here..yuk.

sheila hambly, 19 August 2007

We have been to the Welcome Break run Sedgemoor Services and they were appalling. Dirty toilets (in fact everywhere looked messy), slow service, poor food, lots of staff milling around not doing much when they was clearly a lot to do. Avoid!

Chris Hall, 14 July 2007

We found this to be a very unsatisfactory break. The toilets were dirty and so was the restaurant. The service was poor, the cutlery was disgusting and we had to ask for clean cutlery. Tiles were missing on the floor and I tripped on one particular missing tile by the checkout. We use Welcome Breaks frequently but never have we seent such a bad one. We will never visit Sedgemoor again. For the price charged in the restaurant we did at least expect a clean environment.

Mrs. J. Walburn, 29 May 2007

The description here is for the southbound carriageway. Northbound is operated by Welcome Break.
