nice truck stop, very clean. shop not overpriced. Showers very nice always hot and lots of water... there was a team of us in a campervan, working within london and commuting. there were a few bad stomachs after eating in the restaurant!

Just to clear up the incubation period of various types of food poisoning. Staphylococcal food poisoning takes from 1 - 6 hours to take hold and acts directly on the vomiting centre in the central nervous system. Clostridium Botulinum 5-36 hours. Bacillus Cereus 1-20 hours. My bet is Staph. Aureus where the toxin has built up in kept warm food, but it could also have been plant poisons, fungal poisons, fish poisons, heavy metals, etc.

I spend in excess of £1000 per year with South Mimms services on coffee / meals etc., and regularly use this service for business meetings.
Last time, my meeting ran over and I have a fine - £90! I don't recall seeing any signs. However, I'm certain the signs will have been displayed, obviously I'm not observant enough so,
I won't be using these services EVER again!

david fisher, 5 May 2012

I stoped here on the way back home from delivering some goods to London. Me my partner and my 15 month old son had something to eat from KFC and the next morning my son was poorly and later on my partner was poorly and then later on that day i was poorly and i never get poorly, and me and partner thought all 3 of us had the same at these services so must have been that, i will stop here again but i will think twice about eating at KFC there,

simon hart, 6 March 2012

Just got a penalty ticket for overstaying car parks 2 hour limit. I was one of around 100 cars doing a charity event for our troops. It seems likely we will all end up with these penalties so the service area will be making almost as much as what we raised. Is this fair? What is more annoying is we used this services last year with no problem and we arranged to do so this year, no mention was made that we would be fined. I will never use these services again, already thought it was a rip off at 1.99 to use an ATM. Well done welcome break you are taking money from our wounded troops.

Baz Ball, 3 March 2012

I to have just paid a £60.00 fine plus £2.95 for paying by debit card
Although I do agree they have to control parking I did not see any clear signs giving details so when I had a business meeting purchasing food and drink myself and my clients where shocked to receive this fine.
There is much better ways to operate this but I think they more interested in collecting the fines
I wil not use this service area again or any of the people that work for my company as we have sent out a warning to all employees some 1800 staff

Paul Pegrum, 18 February 2012

I too have just had a surprise enforcement notice for over staying my welcome by 30 mins. An extended business meeting where we purchased food and drink from the services. Trust me, I won't get caught again as I will make a point of not using Welcome Break services in the future.

I.s. Kent, 2 February 2012

I also have just got a fine for overstaying. It states that signage is clearly displayed. Obviously not if I and others have missed it. What a rip off - won't be stopping there again.

Deb G, 19 January 2012

I don't know why people are judging this SERVICE STATION as if it was suppossed to be a 5 star resteraunt... I've lived in Potters Bar all my life, and i've gone to this service station manyyyyyyyyy times, and it had been nothing but lovely.

It's clean, the people are polite, it has a good sitting area, it's aesthetically pleasing from inside and outside. It's really nice for a service station.

Bloop, 12 January 2012

Had never heard of paying for parking in a service area after 2 hours, had never been 2 this service station before and was more concerned where i was going reather than having to pay to eat there. I never saw any parking meters. Wont be stopping there again.

Re: Sue McDonnell, 20 September 2010

Food poisoning wouldn't take hold that fast, I have visited this services on numerous occasions and find them to be first class.

Check your facts first next time Ms McDonnell.

Dave, 4 January 2012

Just got a parking fine out of the blue for over staying at the service station and not getting a ticket. the letter say the car park had signs clearly displayed, well I didn't see any!.Did enjoy the visit as was meeting up with family members but now will be vary wary of parking at any services again.

hilary mayo, 28 December 2011

I'm very upset in getting a Penalty Charge Notice for an unforeseen, extended business meeting whilst remaining within the service area the whole time spending money within service station?

I will not be using your services again or any of our vehicles or staff in future, I also understand that only police or council can give you parking tickets so I am passing onto my solicestor.

Allan Medcraft, 24 December 2011

I'm technically guilty I'm sure but to get a Penalty Charge Notice for an unforeseen, extended business meeting whilst remaining within the service area the whole time spending money with those establishments therein.....really ?
Is that morally reasonable when the inflated prices presmably include a factor for the lack of parking revenue ? I can't see me availing myself of their services again in a hurry...........

Robert Kelley, 17 September 2011

I used to use this place because I needed a snooze before I headed back home to the S.Yks border having been up really early to work in London. Sometimes I overslept but I cannot now. If I overslept I would have to incur the wrath of the auto numberplate cameras wherever they are. If I could pay for say an extra hour or two over the two free hours I would be happy to.However, to pay eight pounds just in case I oversleep is ridiculous. I use some thin layby near Grantham if I have to (and I can make it without my eyes closing). Is it really important to charge people in the wee small hours?... Oh well, they have lost a customer for good.

j s jephcote, 2 June 2011

Found the services a bit pretentious, Waitrose? Do me a favour. I'm not a Waitrose man. Simple as that. The parking space I was in was second to none, well painted. Immaculate entrance too, well pruned.

Mick Mills, 11 April 2011

food poisoning from seaford can be even quicker to kick in... prob the prawns rather than the ham.

yoyo, 20 December 2010

Called in here on my way back from Stevenage recently. Bought an sandwich and a coffee. The sandwich was gone hard around the edges despite its fancy looking packaging and price. Coffee was ok.

Rab, 19 October 2010

Sue McDonnell, If you’re trying to say its food poisoning then you are way off the mark, there is no food poisoning that takes place so fast or in such a short space of time. I think you need to get a doctors report before you suggest or intimate, as I think you will find the illness is attributed to something else certainly not food poisoning.

Dosser666, 21 September 2010

WARNING...................
Called into Soth Mimms services on the 11th September 2010 with my mum. Purchased some food- ham sandwich and ready made prawn cocktail from well known outlet at 1.15pm. By 3.45pm my mum was seriuously ill with the following Chronic diarrhea, projectile vomiting and server sweating which lasted approximately 4 hours. She was taken to A & E as she was so bad. My mother last meal prior to this was 1pm the day before.......... PLEASE DO NOT RISK EATING HERE........................

Sue McDonnell, 20 September 2010

Went to have some supper at the services after getting off the tube at 9pm on Monday. I had just been on a food hygiene course and was appalled at the food we received. The pie and chips were cold and the sausage and mash that my husband had was dry and cold too. All food which is kept warm should be kept at 75oC or more. This was obviously not the case here. Awful,Awful,Awful.

Julia Bradfield, 8 September 2010

Missed required junction on M25 and ended up here. What a mistake! Difficult entry from north side, crossing lines of traffic. Worst breakfast I have ever had at a service station, cold and totally unappetising. Avoid!!!

derrickshaw, 27 August 2010

The cleanest site I have ever been to. No litter anywhere, even the boundary hedges were spotless, also the interior public areas and the loos. Congratulations.

Anna Waghorn, 23 August 2010

If you like to see rats running about this car park is the place for you! There are several large ones scuttling about from bin to bin in the service area car park. I dread to think where else they may be on the site; I prefer not to eat there. Definitely a case for a good rat catcher.

Mel Day, 4 May 2010

hi get southmimms back , the truckstop used to be good , get sky for the drivers . and a small bar , nothing wrong with a couple of pints at the end of the day.

clem fawcett, 10 March 2010

Went there on 11th July last year at 22:58, KFC was shut despite advertising that it was open till 23:00.

I know there's a delay in writing this review but it's taken me this long to come to terms with having to make do for an inferior burger king. Complained to head office but heard nothing back.

Blatantly run by a bunch of incompetent paedophiles

Jonny Todd, 27 February 2010

Generally seemed clean, well presented, smart and modern. Very strange smell coming from the toilets though that stunk out the adjacent shop. Clean quick and nice Burger King with large nice seating area. Not the best, but I've seen far worse.

Chris ayers, 25 January 2010

This website says LPG available but couldn't see it at BP, asked staff and they didn't know. Went to lorry services but still no LPG.

gavin kuit, 1 January 2010

i bought a pouch of tobacco for later as i already had cigarettes but was running low, got home to find it was extemely dried out, there was no free papers in it and it had the outer packaging removed and been opened! yet they still sold it like that! now i have a 50mile drive for a refund of a fiver, not really worth it! will never buy from there again!

Garreth Packham, 2 September 2009

Our Driver called into this service area today and was given a Parking Charge Ticket. It clearly states that the first two hours are free parking and the ticket was timed 1545 to 1550. There was a Ticket attached to the paintwork of the Vehicle and not on the windscreen as should be on removal of the Ticket paint came away. Who is repsonsible for the respraying of the Door Panel. Where do the two hours free parking come in when the ticket is timed out in just 5 mins.

Coombe Valley Transport Limited, 19 May 2009

Left my coast in the dining area and tried to contact to enquire.
No answer to telephone throught Tuesday afternoon.
email address will not accept my communication.
No alternatives. How do I reach them other than drive 50 miles?

graham harvey, 12 May 2009

The burgervan is ace the rest is overpriced rubbished served by numb nuts with bad atitude, and as stated elsewhere the toilets are filthy.

Frank the builder, 10 March 2009

What a disgrace the Ladies toilets were on Saturday, 8th February. The smell was absolutely disgusting as I entered the area before the gadget staff. My husband tried to find someone to make a complaint but to no avail. I know cleaning toilets is not something people enjoy doing, but there is no point in having the facilities if they are not kept clean. Pooh on a toilet seat and a used Tampax on the floor were just two of the disgusting things I saw plus of course, the smell

Sonja Sparrow, 11 February 2009

went there in september, lovely modern facilities, coffee expensive

James, 2 November 2008

i hope these comments get passed on to the head office of the company that runs these disgusting over priced rat holes.
like all services they just take the pee out of us public as we have to stop.
i did a job for one of the managing directors for this company and charged him 4 time more than what it should of cost, so i got my sweet revenge.

kempo, 13 September 2008

very smelly toilets, nearly had a shower from the tap water, no peaceful area to relax, too many shops, i wanted a rest not to go shopping, way way over priced hence didn't spend any of my hard earned cash, shame theres not an M & S foodhall here to buy healthy snacks from like fresh mango, yum.

helen, 24 March 2008

USED MY CREDIT CARD AND THEY DID NOT PUT THE RECEIPT THROUGH FOR NEARLY 2 MONTHS. SERVICE IN ALL THE SHOPS DISGUSTING. AVOID THE PLACE AT ALL COSTS

jennie bumfrey, 7 February 2008

My sister stopped at S.Mimms services during very heavy traffic jams with her 6mnth old son, to discover that there was only 1 baby changing room with a huge queue. She ended up changing her son on a toilet cubicle floor! improvements are needed!

Kirsten Thomas, 26 October 2007

Credit card fraud - misuse of my debit card attributed to having bought petrol at SM Services M25. Watch for internet transactions on your account day after buying fuel, especially for expensive power tools. David Fraine the net is closing on you.

John Gosling, 24 July 2007

I have a particular complaint about road signs in the service area although South Mimms is not the exception.
There are signs for lorries, buses, caravans etc. but no directions for cars.I ended up going round in circles until eventually finding the services mostly by luck.

Mick Barlow, 9 May 2007

tried to use the loo at the petrol atation to find it being rebuilt. To get back to the main d]services was a nightmare. Needed to go right out again and round the roundabout through all those traffic lights busting myself. Missed the cars entrance to the car park and ended up in the lorry park. Found my way out and eventually got onto the right road again. Desperately memorable experience for all the wrong reasons.

Peter Braybrook, 8 March 2007

Forget the overpriced eat in services and visit the burger van near the exit of the parking area. Friendly service and extremely good prices compared to £3 a coffee and £5 for a bacon roll they offer in the services.

george barwick, 21 January 2007

I found the Services clean and efficient and enjoyed watching the telly while recovering from a long journey.

cheryl marcus, 28 December 2006

thry have sold off thier caravan parking area to developers, the woman who told us this did not know where we could stop with a van on, the signs hvae not been changed to direct to ant other parking and we had to go around the carpark the wrong way to get out again thaks to her driectiond. stuupud woman.

jeff Griffin, 19 August 2006

M25? Shouldn't it be M25/A1(M) as it's on the roundabout that links the two?

Daniel, 10 May 2006

on the 15/4/06 between 05.00&05.30 we called into south mimmes services to use the toilets and get a cup of coffe as we had woke the children up early we got them the children lunce boxes only to find the rolls inside where not buttered how can you expect a 16mth a child to eat dry roll or come mor to the point would you eat dry rolls this will be the last time we will use any services for food we will wait and find a roadside burger bar wich would be cheaper when you buy 5 children meals at a time plus i know think you get better service at roadside burger bars. i dont hold hope in any reply

nigel lake, 5 May 2006

These services are just so wrong. To get there means leaving the motorway and going round one of the busiest junctions on the M25. Motorway services that mean leaving the motorway are just bad.
