Now I know why there are so many rats. It's a free- range halal rat farm. They are slaughtered on site and served up in ALL of their food franchises. I found a rat tail hanging out of my burger,thats how I became aware of their rodent scheme.

June this year I had just driven back from the south of France with my partner and we were feeling verytired. I pulled into South Mimms services at 1:45 in the morning it was very dark. I stopped andwent to sleep my partner and I woke up at 8:15 and set off to complete our journey.Three weeks later I received a parking fine for Â£100, the arrival picture shows nothing but the number plate that's how dark it was. I appealed, and stated it was dark, I was tired and didn't see any signs, I offered to go back and pay but my appeal came back as rejected. Parking Eyeâ€¦ what a bunch ofâ€¦â€¦ No compassion what so ever.

I was on a coach trip and we stopped on Sunday 22nd March about 11 am at South Mimms Westbound Services. I purchased a mars bar and two chocolate eggs from W H Smiths. As I walked out a securityguard came over to me and said "Did you pay for that?" pointing at the marsbar. He wasn't polite and I wanted to say "would I walk out of the shop with it in my hand?" but instead I said "of course!!! He then said "show me your receipt" no please thank you or anything else. Luckily I had it still in my pocket and showed him. He then wanted to know what else I had bought!!! Why???? I was disgusted with his attitude and my husband was fuming so much that all I wanted to do was get him away. I wish I had said more!!! By the way I am a 52 year old lady NOT a "hoodie" or a "thug" I won't be buying from these services anymore. And I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

I have been using southmims service station since September 2009 regularly every Friday and I would spend around Ã‚Â£7 - Ã‚Â£10 a week. In January 2014 I was fined Ã‚Â£150 (Parking Eye) for exceeding my stay by 20 minutes!!!! I settled the bill, however, I will make sure everyone I know and everyone I speak to avoid southmims service station. You will never see me there ever and lot of other people that I will be speaking to won't be coming there either. Southmims Service Station - You go do your maths on how much you are going to be loosing (Revenue) going forward.

Lorry park at South Mimms: A place to avoid or to be closed down. For the price of Ã‚Â£25 to park up and a meal is DISCUSTING. I visit this services on few occasions (we had no choice) with my boyfriend (international truck driver) and I can tell what a discusting place. DIRTY TOILETS AND SHOWERS and do not ask about food. Example: you can park in Germany or Italy for free and you will find every single Lorry Park nice and clean, their toilets are more clean then plates in any service station in UK. WAKE UP UK its 2014

I have never seen as many rats running around as at the South Mimms Services. Despite there being a lot of people walking around there were rats everywhere outside; one even ran in between my daughter and myself. I emailed both South Mimms Services and the local council but no-one has replied. Needless to say I will not be stopping there again and have advised everyone I speak to likewise.

There is substantial and overwhelming evidence from majority of those who have used this service, for their poor and overpriced food, derisory customer service, and the seemingly "fraudulent" tactics of extorting Ã‚Â£100 parking penalty charge from people. I stopped at South Mimms truck stop (reluctantly because of previous experiences) because i ran out of time. 30.01 2014. ordered fish and chips and waited 20 minutes for the food, which i didn't mind as i expected it to be freshly cooked. Sadly when it arrived the fish looked and tasted like it had been cooked and recooked a number of times. Even the chips were cold and how hard is it to make sure a portion of peas are hot. Woke up at 4 am with the sweats and spent an hour in the toilets with the shits. I'd rather lick shit of a donkeys dick,than stay there again. This place should be avoided at all costs for all truckers. Go to junction 26 M25. Great food!

The car services are o.k.. But the lorry services are total Rubbish..dirty.toilets and showers stink of piss.the tight manager even turns off the hot water so you can't have a shower,even though it's paid for.the showers & toilets need re building.hygiene is at its worst here.get you act together or lose plenty of truck drivers,be more like the car services.clean,fresh.

My God !!!!!!!This must rate as one of my worst meals ever.Pulled in at approximately 1800 Monday 30/12/2013. I ordered a steake and ale pie with chips and peas at the EAT IN counter.As i started to tuck-in and break into the pie and tried to cut into the base of the pie, to no avail!I could'nt understand why the base of the pie was so hard, i actualy began to think they had left something in it, like a coaster for instance, (it was as hard as wood) As i began to remove the two bits of meat and a bit of gravey i saw that it was actually black in colour! on the inside of the base.I took the half eaten meal back and asked to speak to the manager, he explained that it was because 'the pie had been standing on the hotplate for so long' which didnt fill me with great hope. I had a mind to ask him if it would mite be a good idea to offer the rest of the pies a seat so they wouldnt have to stand around for long. I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN, EVER.

I think a petition should go to the government; as it contradicts the signs on the motorway telling you to take a break if you are tired, to avoid an accident.

To the CEO of welcome break services, this is a small note about the lorry park at south mimms. For the price of Ã‚Â£24.00 to park up and a meal, is discusting. I visit this services on many occasions, with my work(truck driver). The food is totally un-eatable and over priced. I have complained on several occasions but nothing has been done.I am sure, you would get many more drivers eating you food if you provided more appretising food instead of dried up , overcooked and un- eatable so called meals.The drivers who park on your services do so through nececety not through choice, so please look into these problems ASAP. Here's hope for a better future at your services.PS, you said in a magazine article previously, that you would sort this out, I think that was approximately 2 years ago, NOTHING has been done. Used the services to meet up with a friend for a Starbucks and a catch-up. Starbucks quality was quite acceptable. What wasn't acceptable was the Ã‚Â£100 fine for doing what we are all told to do and "taking a break"!It is absolutely ludicrous that a Motorway Service Station can be allowed to fine customers for using the facilities and spending money at their establishment.So, Welcome Break let me inform you now that whenever I'm on the M25 in that area, I will come off the Motorway at Junction 22, and go to the very nice Starbucks at Colney Fields Shopping Centre. There I will also fill up my car with diesel (at a cheaper price than at South Mimms).You will never see me again at South Mimms Motorway Services. I advise all motorists and travelling reps to do the same.Only be hitting these arrogant, complacent MSA's in the pocket by going elsewhere will we get anything like the level of quality and service that is enjoyed in The Netherlands, Germany etc when taking a stop on the Motorway.

I visited these services yesterday the 20th of September 2013 for a toilet break and a meal at KFC. I did notice a bit of a queue to get out of the car park but had no idea that this would result in an hour and a half queue to get out of the car park. Is this usual if so how do you expect anyone to use these services I never will again i was in the exit queue from 3 o'clock until 4:30. is there any explanation have tried ringing but to no avail. Stopped at this services with my family today (8th September 2013).This has to be the worst services I have ever been in. I ordered 4 lots of fish & chips and after a 20 minute wait was asked to go to the check out and pay and my order would be ready in a couple of minutes.I duly paid Ã‚Â£31.96!! and after another 5 minute wait and being asked by another staff member to go to the check out and pay, I explained that I had already paid and produced my receipt to prove it, I finally got my fish & chips.The picture advertising the meal clearly showed a pot of tartare sauce which was not on ours and when I enquired about it I was told "sorry we have not got any, but you can have a sachet of ketchup" The whole place is a dump with food that is grossly overpriced and staff that could not care less about the customers. We are one family that will never set foot in this place again,and will inform relatives and friends to do the same.

Must be the worst service statio. In the country. Stopped there a couple of days ago. Took about 49 minutes to get there from M25 turn off as slip road and roundabout was at a standstill. Then it was hard to actually get into the services as there is a lorry park as you enter that has lorries pulling out all the time into the pathway of cars trying to get in. The whole place was packed and like a cattle market. Rubbish was everywhere and it smelt of vomit. Then after about 45 mins we tried to exit the place it took about an hour to get out as traffic was held up trying to filter back onto the roundabout. In total it took us about 2 1/2 hours to stop for a toilet and quick lunch break. Never again. Would not recommend anyone using this service staton unless it is an emergency. Hang on and use the next one!!

Like everyone else here I arrived to have a quick rendezvous with a colleague. Had a chat and a coffee then after meeting we both decided to stay and take lunch.... Fairly mediocre meal and then left...A week later received two demands for Ã‚Â£100 for overstaying their two hour parking limit....again likewise was not aware of the penalty or time limit...what this has done is actually self defacing for them.. I used to use these services for both fuel and meals weekly and they would normally receive double that from me as a normal customer..however now vowed that I will never ever return and use these services again!!!! through their greed it has actually reduced their client base as I guarantee I will never fill up there or use those services again and will be telling all my colleagues to avoid as well!

Stopped at South Mimms as a half way point to collect my grandchildren to go on holiday, they were running late due to traffic. When they arrived they were cranky and hungry, so i took them in for something to eat. No problems there, food was ok and to be expected of service stations (kfc/burger king). The problem arose when i came back from our holiday to find on my doormat a "parking notice" from parking eye, informing me i had overstayed my welcome there and they were now charging me Ã‚Â£100 for my custom. WHAT??? I tried to appeal to their better nature and offered Ã‚Â£10 for my oversight ( i never saw the signs when i drove in, and trying to look after a 4 and 2 yr old when they are hungry and miserable is not easy)... but to no avail. Very disappointed in South Mimms and parking eye!

At 02:11:56 on6th May I pulled into South mimms services, after a long day I knew that my tiredness was making me unsafe, my one thought was that I needed sleep. I did not notice any of the 'clearly displayed'signage. After three hours sleep I left the services at 05:20:22 again not noticing the signage. On 13th May I received a parkingeye charge for Ã‚Â£100 discounted to Ã‚Â£60 for prompt payment.This was disappointing especially considering the number of signs advising us that tiredness killsI understand that during the day the area is busy and some kind of control is necessary but at 02:11:56 the parking area was empty and at 05:20:22 there were probably no more than a dozen cars. It was unlikely that my presence had inconvenienced anyone else and I feel that the charge served no purpose other than to swell the profits of ParkingEye and Welcome Break.I do not intend to use these services again.

I have stopped at services all over the country and this by far is thest most expensive and noisiest I have stopped at.There were lorries changing trailers and selfish drivers leaving their engine running. I stopped here for a safe and quiet night unfortunately I had none.

We stopped at your services for less than five minutes late on Tuesday evening, just before midnight. It was our anniversary the next day (three minutes away!) so after a quick comfort break we stopped for a celebratory kiss outside your toilets (how romantic!). Later in the day my husband realised his wedding ring was missing. We searched the whole house without success - it completely ruined our anniversary plans - we were so sad. On the tiny off chance that my husband had lost his ring during our very brief stopover, he phoned your lost property staff and asked if it had been handed in. We were told that it hadn't but you took his phone number. Today, the very next day, you called us to say that a very honest cleaner had handed it in. We couldn't believe our luck! My husband has just been in to collect it and I just thought I'd write and let you know that you've made us so happy. It's a very unusual ring and it's only our third anniversary. I can't express our gratitude enough. Thank you so so much to the kind person who handed it in and thanks to South Mimms Services for being so organised. :)

A few weeks ago I had stopped over at South Mimms for a rest and only recently found that I had been issued with a Ã‚Â£90 fine for exceeding the 2 hours stay. The notice issued said that there were clear signs which I donÃ¢Â€Â™t think there were. Signs on the road state Ã¢Â€Â˜stop if tiredÃ¢Â€Â™ it should state Ã¢Â€Â˜stop if tired but beware South Mimms will charge youÃ¢Â€Â™. Also, the food was foul - I will NEVER be going there again.

I find it hilarious that people are complaining so heavily about this Service Station, it's a really comfortable Service Station with polite staff, clean sitting area's, clean toilets and a decent selection of food & drink outlet's, end of the day as somebody else said it's not designed to be a 5 star Hotel. With regards to the parking fine's, again it makes me laugh, when I visited & stayed there (in the hotel) the first thing I saw when I arrived on my motorbike was a sign displaying how long you have before parking is chargeable, add that to the fact that it is "your" duty to find out about cost's and it looks pretty silly to complain.

My wife and I arranged to meet friends at these services for a business meeting. We had coffee from the franchise inside - expensive and tasteless - weeks later our friends received a Ã‚Â£90 parking fine for overstaying the 2 hour limit. We never saw any signs explaining the parking charges and none of the staff inside warned us of this. Judging from the number of complaints on this issue the signs are NOT clearly displayed - anyway, who expects to pay to park at a motorway services. This is a blatant rip off and we will never use 'Welcome break' services again. I hope this loses them more money than they manage to steal from people with these underhand tactics.

I had the misfortune to use this services last night 20/6/2012. I chose to eat a cumberland sausage and mash as I didn't want a glutinous 'rubber burger' from Bugger King or a pile of greasy dead chicken from KFC. The standard of food purchased at the astronomical price of Ã‚Â£19.80 for TWO meals and two soft drinks was disgusting. Dried up barely edible chicken with apologies for vegetables and mashed potato was equaled by my abysmal sausage and mash. Over priced, luke warm inedible and offered by a fast food franchise that don't give a s**** about their customers because they are a motorway services, therefore accept what we offer or go hungry. I won't be investing my hard earned on their rubbish gastronomic offerings again!

Just to clear up the incubation period of various types of food poisoning. Staphylococcal food poisoning takes from 1 - 6 hours to take hold and acts directly on the vomiting centre in the central nervous system. Clostridium Botulinum 5-36 hours. Bacillus Cereus 1-20 hours. My bet is Staph. Aureus where the toxin has built up in kept warm food, but it could also have been plant poisons, fungal poisons, fish poisons, heavy metals,etc.

Just got a penalty ticket for overstaying car parks 2 hour limit. I was one of around 100 cars doing a charity event for our troops. It seems likely we will all end up with these penalties so the service area will be making almost as much as what we raised. Is this fair? What is more annoying is we used this services last year with no problem and we arranged to do so this year, no mention was made that we would be fined. I will never use these services again, already thought it was a rip off at 1.99 to use an ATM. Well done welcome break you are taking money from our wounded troops.

I don't know why people are judging this SERVICE STATION as if it was suppossed to be a 5 star resteraunt... I've lived in Potters Bar all my life, and i've gone to this service station manyyyyyyyyy times, and it had been nothing but lovely.
It's clean, the people are polite, it has a good sitting area, it's aesthetically pleasing from inside and outside. It's really nice for a service station.

I used to use this place because I needed a snooze before I headed back home to the S.Yks border having been up really early to work in London. Sometimes I overslept but I cannot now. If I overslept I would have to incur the wrath of the auto numberplate cameras wherever they are. If I could pay for say an extra hour or two over the two free hours I would be happy to.However, to pay eight pounds just in case I oversleep is ridiculous. I use some thin layby near Grantham if I have to (and I can make it without my eyes closing). Is it really important to charge people in the wee small hours?... Oh well, they have lost a customer for good.

Called in here on my way back from Stevenage recently. Bought an sandwich and a coffee. The sandwich was gone hard around the edges despite its fancy looking packaging and price. Coffee was ok.

Sue McDonnell, If youÃ¢Â€Â™re trying to say its food poisoning then you are way off the mark, there is no food poisoning that takes place so fast or in such a short space of time. I think you need to get a doctors report before you suggest or intimate, as I think you will find the illness is attributed to something else certainly not food poisoning.

WARNING...................Called into Soth Mimms services on the 11th September 2010 with my mum. Purchased some food- ham sandwich and ready made prawn cocktail from well known outlet at 1.15pm. By 3.45pm my mum was seriuously ill with the following Chronic diarrhea, projectile vomiting and server sweating which lasted approximately 4 hours. She was taken to A & E as she was so bad. My mother last meal prior to this was 1pm the day before.......... PLEASE DO NOT RISK EATING HERE........................

Went to have some supper at the services after getting off the tube at 9pm on Monday. I had just been on a food hygiene course and was appalled at the food we received. The pie and chips were cold and the sausage and mash that my husband had was dry and cold too. All food which is kept warm should be kept at 75oC or more. This was obviously not the case here. Awful,Awful,Awful.

Missed required junction on M25 and ended up here. What a mistake! Difficult entry from north side, crossing lines of traffic. Worst breakfast I have ever had at a service station, cold and totally unappetising. Avoid!!!

The cleanest site I have ever been to. No litter anywhere, even the boundary hedges were spotless, also the interior public areas and the loos. Congratulations.

If you like to see rats running about this car park is the place for you! There are several large ones scuttling about from bin to bin in the service area car park. I dread to think where else they may be on the site; I prefer not to eat there. Definitely a case for a good rat catcher.

Went there on 11th July last year at 22:58, KFC was shut despite advertising that it was open till 23:00.
I know there's a delay in writing this review but it's taken me this long to come to terms with having to make do for an inferior burger king. Complained to head office but heard nothing back.

Generally seemed clean, well presented, smart and modern. Very strange smell coming from the toilets though that stunk out the adjacent shop. Clean quick and nice Burger King with large nice seating area. Not the best, but I've seen far worse.

i bought a pouch of tobacco for later as i already had cigarettes but was running low, got home to find it was extemely dried out, there was no free papers in it and it had the outer packaging removed and been opened! yet they still sold it like that! now i have a 50mile drive for a refund of a fiver, not really worth it! will never buy from there again!

Our Driver called into this service area today and was given a Parking Charge Ticket. It clearly states that the first two hours are free parking and the ticket was timed 1545 to 1550. There was a Ticket attached to the paintwork of the Vehicle and not on the windscreen as should be on removal of the Ticket paint came away. Who is repsonsible for the respraying of the Door Panel. Where do the two hours free parking come in when the ticket is timed out in just 5 mins.

What a disgrace the Ladies toilets were on Saturday, 8th February. The smell was absolutely disgusting as I entered the area before the gadget staff. My husband tried to find someone to make a complaint but to no avail. I know cleaning toilets is not something people enjoy doing, but there is no point in having the facilities if they are not kept clean. Pooh on a toilet seat and a used Tampax on the floor were just two of the disgusting things I saw plus of course, the smell

My sister stopped at S.Mimms services during very heavy traffic jams with her 6mnth old son, to discover that there was only 1 baby changing room with a huge queue. She ended up changing her son on a toilet cubicle floor! improvements are needed!

I have a particular complaint about road signs in the service area although South Mimms is not the exception.There are signs for lorries, buses,caravans etc. but no directions for cars.I ended up going round in circles until eventually finding the services mostly by luck.

tried to use the loo at the petrol atation to find it being rebuilt. To get back to the main d]services was a nightmare. Needed to go right out again and round the roundabout through all those traffic lights busting myself. Missed the cars entrance to the car park and ended up in the lorry park. Found my way out and eventually got onto the right road again. Desperately memorable experience for all the wrong reasons.

Forget the overpriced eat in services and visit the burger van near the exit of the parking area. Friendly service and extremely good prices compared to Â£3 a coffee and Â£5 for a bacon roll they offer in the services.

thry have sold off thier caravan parking area to developers, the woman who told us this did not know where we could stop with a van on, the signs hvae not been changed to direct to ant other parking and we had to go around the carpark the wrong way to get out again thaks to her driectiond. stuupud woman.

on the 15/4/06 between 05.00&05.30 we called into south mimmes services to use the toilets and get a cup of coffe as we had woke the children up early we got them the children lunce boxes only to find the rolls inside where not buttered how can you expect a 16mth a child to eat dry roll or come mor to the point would you eat dry rolls this will be the last time we will use any services for food we will wait and find a roadside burger bar wich would be cheaper when you buy 5 children meals at a time plus i know think you get better service at roadside burger bars. i dont hold hope in any reply

These services are just so wrong. To get there means leaving the motorway and going round one of the busiest junctions on the M25. Motorway services that mean leaving the motorway are just bad.
