I forgot to rate tonights escapade. I rate it MINUS 1 (one) Burger in a bun
Phil Bottomley, Tue 5 Jul 2016
Called in this evening , early, I had a burger in a bun, chips and what was supposed to be onions, I took one bite of the burger, yes it was cooked on the outside but looking at what was inside nearly made me bawk, I dare say a good vet, x amount of blood and possibly a moo could have got that burger up and running, yes the meat was barely cooked on the inside plus I don't like seeing raw meat and a part of a vein looking at me especially when it isn't mine. The chips were something else, I would describe them as "Crispy" (well done) too well done and what on earth were the onions cooked in ? Oil, Fat or Butter, whatever it was the onion learnt to swim for sure , but I would dare say had I rung them out into the fuel tank of my motor it would have run. NOT IMPRESSED one bit, standards if they have any, left a lot to be desired. Good butchers shop tho
We always make a point of passing by the other service areas to visit Tebay, but this time we were far from impressed! The very first sight we were greeted with was an 'Uncovered' cake and biscuit display, which had flies crawling all over them. In this day and age I've never seen anything so disgusting in my life. I told the Manager and she apologised and said they would be covered up. A little similar to closing the barn door after the horse has bolted. Definitely not impressed. Mark Knott and Jean Robinson.

Stopped at the south bound services on 11th sept. We had a caravan so parked with Hgv's. The overpowering smell of human urine was so disgusting that we got back in our car and carried on our journey. We felt absolutely sick with the smell, certainly not a good welcome to the services or Cumbria.
Paul Downs, Tue 16 Sep 2014
Caravan parking area is not properly tarmac'd. Surface is pot-holed and rutted. But a bigger problem is the lack of footpath from parking area to the main building, so caravan users have to walk in the road amid fast-moving traffic (doubly difficult for wheelchair-user caravan owners like us). VERY DANGEROUS. Diesel prices are outrageous. I won't be using Tebay South again.
Lyndon Wigmore, Sun 10 Aug 2014
We called in to Tebay south on Saturday and were disappointed with the lack of cleanliness in the Entrance and the toilets.Granted there was a member of Staff clearing the outside tables, but he managed to walk round any litter on the ground and there plenty. The place needs a shake,

I was very dissappointed in the price in the farm shop as the retail price for a bag of rowentree friut pastils is £1.29 and for them to charhe £2.85 is more than double the price a bit much and shows how greedy they are for money when you can rip people off like that ans how much are the other prices marked up
chritine drummond, Mon 23 Jun 2014
I am so disappointed in my latest visit to Tebay. The farm shop is still amazing but the restaurant has deteriorated considerably. I have been stopping at Tebay for many years, ever since it opened and always raved about the fabulous home-cooked food on offer. Now it is just as ordinary as all the other motorway services. Yesterday we stopped for breakfast about 9 am, granted not the earliest, but still within a reasonable time slot for breakfast. The staff were surly, the bacon was overcooked (and not enough of it) and my husband was given a stale roll. The stall outside was closed, which was disappointing, as we had stopped last time we visited, in April, and had delicious rolls with bacon and sausage, and had looked forward to the same this time. Come on Westmorland, get your act together! I remember when coach loads of continental travellers used to queue up to eat at Tebay, I don't see them now.
Christine El-Kadi, Wed 11 Jun 2014
Overated. The quality of the breakfast has definitely dropped (bacon too salty, bland black pudding and sausage). Not the same stuff they sell in the shop despite the high prices. Also the staff has not improved surly and so slow! They appear to be part time students. Don't ask for a coffee as you'll be waiting! Surely one of the most important functions of a service station must be to dispense its services in a timely fashion? The dog path has deteriorated - dirty and shoddy now. The baby changing area and toilets were still excellent. I won't go out of my way to visit this place from now on. Avoid getting petrol there as it's extortionate!
Mad Max, Tue 22 Apr 2014
I usually have a good experience when visiting your site.Today I found the dog path encumbered and virtually unusable.I bought a number of items but have to say the coffee was foul. I appreciate a good cup of coffee and this cup was bitter and unpleasant, it would certainly put me off visiting again!

Travelling I stopped to try the farm shop which was excellent. Very good food and truly excellent selection. The staff were very friendly and helpful. After filling up with fuel I found I had lost my driving glasses. I retraced my steps and once again the staff did all they could to help. Top class food, excellent clean facilities and friendly helpful staff. Good anywhere, but on a motorway services outstanding. Oh and the buildings and landscaping are excellent as well. Full marks from me.

Have always used this service station with no problems , until yesterday. We went to buy sausage sandwiches from the outside Shed. On arriving there the girl said in a loud voice to co worker ,I finish at 4pm ,fine as it was only 3.35pm . We asked for our order , the answer was I will have to see what we have left ,I close at 4pm . My answer was , do you not wish to serve us then ? We opted for just coffee as I was so annoyed . If they do not want to serve anyone 25mins before they close, pull the shutters down . Appalling service .Will not be returning again .

I stopped of at Tebay northbound in August and was appalled at the standards there (see comments on northbound website) We had cause to travel to England last week and decided to visit the Southbound side for a comparison all ready to leave before purchasing food, on inspection of the eating area, we were both agreeably surprised at the difference between the North and South divide. The whole area was extremely clean and tidy, staff were pleasant and courteous and considering that it was also equally as busy as when we visited north bound, staff were clearing and tidying tables and floors, I spoke to some of the staff and thanked them, also visited customer service area and passed on comments about the difference between tebay north and south. While looking around a member of staff approached me and asked for more information about our experiences on the north side, she said she would take it up with the management. We were returning to Northern Ireland on the 10th September so, thought we would look in on them (northbound)on our return, although I had no intention of eating there, what a difference so much better, although I think customers were voting with their feet hardly anybody in there!!! (see comments on northbound website). Linda Burton

Stopped off at Tebay knowing that they can do proper hot food and I wasn't disappointed. Although I have to say, the quality of the food perhaps wasn't quite as good as I remember in the past? Maybe I was just a bit late in the evening and it'd been sitting around for too long under the warmers?
Even so, it's a massive cut above the slew of KFC, Burger Kings (and now) McDonalds which infest all the other services. And it's certainly better than the usual poor quality restaurant fare available at other services.
I really liked the selection of items to buy in the shop. Much more interesting than your typical WH Smith.
It was nice to have an indoor play area for the younger kids too, so they get a big thumbs up from me.
All services in the UK should be at least as good as this. Which is not to say Tebay is perfect, but compared to the competition...
Pete Richardson, Mon 5 Aug 2013
overrated, great views yes clean toilets yes but food was very very overpriced £4 almost for a sausage roll ?? Sandwiches that where squashed into bags at almost a fiver, I'm afraid i left disappointing, having heard everyone rave about how good they where. Though its great to have a farm shop the prices here where double to many farm shops ive been to and the bread was twice that of a bakers. no better than the other service areas they are just better at PR I guess
Jayne Bose, Mon 1 Jul 2013
I used to like call here at Tebay Staff are very pleasant, food was fair to good not any more the menu has been the same for six months or more and when you call it to their attention all goes black, other I speak to say the same, IT NEVER CHANGES ! disappointed Tebay, have decided to stop calling in, maybe next year 2014. Kg.

I always look forward to stopping at Tebay - and this time we found part of our family had stopped independently too - nice setting, child friendly, warm staff
Simon Cox, Wed 12 Jun 2013
I went out of my way coming back from the lake district to visit. I was happy that the farm shop was still open at that late a time. Produce in the shop seems excellent in range and value for money. Toilets nice and clean. Although we didn't eat in the restaurant we popped in for a wander and food looked good. Would not hesitate to go back there when passing again. A must even if you don't need to stop!
Owain, Thu 23 Aug 2012
Quite simply a cut above the rest. Indoor play area for the kids TICK. Family bathrooms & change rooms TICK. Decent wholesome food for all the family TICK. Nice farm shop to buy some bits for home to soften the blow of what do we cook tomorrow when we get home and have no food in the house TICK.
We use this stop for dinner, last play to get rid of the excess energy and changing into jammies before the loooonnnng drive home.
Other service stations can learn a lot from this station. I'm willing to pay a little extra for healthy food choices. Well done Westmoorland. Keep it up.
Mrs Egan, Wed 8 Aug 2012
I am a coach driver and we have to stop in a number off sevice stns all the time some are bad and I mean bad. We live it when we stop at tebay food is good the sevice is out is world. The only thing is at night time there is only a limited food (no hot). I also read on here at the food was dry sorry but in 5 years I been stopping here only once I had to change my food and they said sorry and the cost is one off the cheaps on the motorway
M hill, Sat 16 Jun 2012
Not sure it is the day of the week, but seems even better than the North side service we used on our way to Scotland. Staff is friendly and it was good to see different kind of service compared to the typical fast food ones!
DC, Mon 9 Apr 2012
I travel a lot on the motorways and have little choice but to use service stations frankly they are a disgrace. The quality of the food . I see a lot of foreign tourists in them and I feel embarrassed With KFC in there and other chains it as marginally improved but they are now grossly overcharging A bottle of lucasade from a main line brand whsmith £2,12 elsewhere £1.60I just don't get it how they can skank the public and please don't give me that crap that they have to pay higher wagers. Because we all know this is bull shit
John mcnulty, Sun 4 Mar 2012
A total pleasure to visit. Seems unusual to be able to by such interesting food at a service station, but what a fantastic surprise.
Cinabar, Sat 20 Nov 2010
We had heard about the wonders of Teebay and had used the northbound site on our way to Scotland. Coming home I instisted we waited for lunch until we got to the southbound one. The site itself is lovely but the food was a big disappointment. They claimed 'succulent roasts' but the beef was all gone and the lamb, which my husband had, was really dry, having been sitting under lights for goodness knows how long. Other dishes were off. I had a salad which was OKish. It was only about 1.45 so not the middle of the afternoon but anyway, service stations have to serve meals throughout the day. Our verdict - great views, great claims, great credentials but we won't be going again because of the food.
Rosemary Chamberlin, Fri 19 Nov 2010
This is by far the best UK Motorway services. It is a pleasure to visit. Yes it's expensive, but they all are. The facilities and location here are second to none. The farm shop is stocked full of tasty treats and fresh produce.
Jules Daniels, Mon 11 Oct 2010
£7.75 for hardly any rice,an insipid so-called chilli con carne, no bread, no cheese, no soured cream.50p's worth of crap for £7.75you are havin' a larf.
Eric, Fri 13 Aug 2010
Absolutely dreadful services. £2 for a cup of tea, all the food looked like it had been sitting there for weeks. Very poor shop for stocking up for the rest of our journey. Will NEVER stop at these services again.
Dave, Sun 13 Jun 2010
Easily the best service area in the country. Good food (Not cheap, but no more expensive than other service areas) with excellent views. With a 5 month old son, bottle/food warming facilities were readily available (along with a soft indoor play area for older kids), and the changing facilities were clean and excellent. Well worth a stop if you're passing by!
L Thomas, Sat 17 Apr 2010
Almost put off by the "Farm Shop" sign we stopped off for food and fuel. The whole place was stunning. The food, the facilities and the setting all so much more the expected. Having passed by on several previous occasions (in the dark) I was very impressed by this service station.
Steve Brennan, Sat 23 Jan 2010
As always, great food and service. This deserves a 5 Star Rating.
Paul Smy, Thu 3 Sep 2009
I've been waiting several years to visit this place after reading a review in the Daily Telegraph. It may not be perfect but it's far and away the best M-way services I've ever visited in the UK. Great view from the restaurant too. It will probably be years before I pass this way again but I will certainly stop to give my passengers an interesting experience. Well done guys!!
Martin Roberts, Thu 23 Jul 2009
OMG - nearly £4 for a steak pie with 2 pieces of steak in, each less that a penny in size! - and then the egg mayo sandwich - only £3.75 - never, never again - busy dirty loos and too expensive to stop - I will look out for moto M&S next time! - oh and by the way, make sure you have some loo paper in your pocket ladies!
Adele Marsh, Sat 18 Apr 2009
At last the loos are being refurbished / upgraded (?)
The temporary arrangements are revolting, but hopefully it'll get better soon.
David Gartside, Sat 29 Nov 2008
Wonderful food and nice surroundings
Samantha Fivash, Sat 20 Sep 2008
i dont know how anyone could complain about the prices. Prices are high on most service station i ever stopped at on the motorways. But at least here i liked the food i ordered and not acted as a middleman between me and the rubbish bins!
Joe, Wed 3 Sep 2008
The new refurbished facilities are excellent, particularly the family lounge and wonderful kids play area. The only problem we had was convincing our 3 year old that it was time to leave!
Anonymous, Thu 21 Aug 2008
Absolutely excellent in every respect - what a refreshing difference from the usual garbage hole!
Phil Aspden, Tue 22 Jan 2008
Great services, staff and food good. Views from the restaurant window are fantastic! Baby changing facilities good, but why is it in the entrance to the ladies loos? Dads change nappies too. I recommend a more prominent sign to the baby changing to help dads spot it as we don't really want to poke our heads into the ladies loos looking for it!
John Franklin, Mon 10 Dec 2007
Good services - arguably the best on the M6 but the loos need an upgrade. Has anybody ever found all three of these: hot water, soap and a working hand dryer - in close proximity?
David Gartside, Wed 19 Sep 2007
Stopped at these serivces a cople of months back - found that they were selling out of date produce at knock down prices. I challenged the manager and she said that it was okay - the dates were only advisory......
G Spence, Fri 10 Aug 2007
I made an excursion from Morecambe to Tebay. I think southbound is slightly better than northbound, being a new building in 2005. The farm shop (an insufficient description for the place) is a joy, and I can easily spend £40 in there. The service station shop has home made sandwiches next to the Ginsters pasties, so what would you choose?
Simon Greenwood, Fri 18 Aug 2006
Re Comment from June 6th - we do live near it, and do sometimes go there for a day out! Great free children's indoor play area (only one for miles!), fair local food, and good value, plus great views.
ian clark, Thu 27 Jul 2006
We had one meal and a sandwich plus drinks and a slice of cake, it tasted average and cost a whopping £15 RIP OFF!!!
james, Mon 10 Jul 2006
Outstanding! Great food, great farm shop!Much of the produce for the retauarant os local. It is comfy, relaxed, clean and chav free! Need I say more....
If I lived near it, it would be a place to go.
alan coxon, Thu 15 Jun 2006
The cumberland sausage meal was genuinely delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed. The restaurant is divided into small areas, so you don't feel as herded as you do in many services.
