Dear Mr. WaterworthI am the General Manager responsible for the Thurrock site. The voucher which you refer to is the £9.00 meal voucher which comes with the HGV parking ticket when you choose to pay just £1.50 more than the standard tariff. The voucher, as was, had the conditions printed on the front explaining that only Burger King "King Of The Day" meals with large fries and large drink plus complimentary onion rings were available. As a direct result of Freight / HGV Drivers feedback Moto have changed the policy on this voucher and is now redeemable against any product in Burger King to the value of £9.00. I and Moto are serious about giving commercial drivers a decent level of quality and value when stopping at our sites. If you, or any other Drivers out there need or want to tell us how you feel about the Thurrock site please e mail me directly at: angus.swan@moto-way.co.uk. All comments will be dealt with by me personally. Kind regards.

Stopped a coffee on Saturday 19 October Almost every table and some chairs were covered in dirty crockery. 10 minute queues for coffee. Nobody on the checkout for self service coffee. This place is a joke. Definitely will be avoiding this in future.

i am not sure if this is the right place to leave this comment, but if it is not, please pass it on to the right department. On Tuesday 10th of September i missed a turning and found myself on the M25, the lady i meant at the toll gate was so helpful and she found me another member of staff who came over to reassure me that a vehicle will come round to lead me to the other side of the M25. Another member of staff stopped cars from coming through so i could pull up on the hard shoulder, then a lady driving a maintenance vehicle led me to the other side where i was able to find my way. I just want to say a big thank for the assistance i received from all members of staff concerned. I really appreciate it and it shows people are still going beyond the call of duty to meet people's needs

I went thourgh Thurrock in the early hours today. Got some good food from the walk through restaurant. Had a shower - very clean.

We used this service area yesterday (Sunday 09-09-2012) this was one of the hottest days this year, why was the air-con in heating mode, As we walked through the front doors we were met with a wall of hot air blowing down from the vents. Like wise when sitting at the tables, You lost out we stopped for a cup of coffee only, stopped off for a meal the other side of Chelmsford made sure the air con was working. if would of been better to of switched the system off not having it blowing out hot air?

i used your service station on my my journey home to kent from leeds.unfortunately my experience was tarnished by the pervert in the toilets who not only stared at me but tried to touch me .toilets where empty and not a very welcoming experience at all ..families need better protection from theese criminals who patrol the facilities looking for there next victim

Visited the services on way to Eurotunnel on 21st July and after a drink in a litter and waste food strewn area nipped to the toilets before carrying on the journey. It was absolutely appalling, it was worse than disgusting. I have been in toilets in 3rd world countries that were cleaner. Bearing in mind that this was the week before the London Olympics if this is what visitors to the Uk were to expect what does this message convey. Then they have the downright cheek to suggest that the toilets are montored and cleaned every half hour. Just a bare faced lie. Thurrock Services you should be ashamed of yourselves. It was just appalling.

This is possibly the best services in northern Europe. I live in brighton but travel up most days to freshen up, relax and dine. Keep up the good work.
Simon Wherwell, Tue 15 May 2012
I was very happy with service I received from Whsmith manager, all my needs were fulfilled and I left the services satisfied. I will stop there again

Change all your offers to brands - they work the best! Costa here is fantastic and a good view of the lake. M&S looks good but not quite sure what EDC is

Alex Halford sound like you work for moto and that site,Anyhow if you read the comments people do go inside and are dismaid at the quality of the food at this services. hopefully they can see its better inside than out.How come the outside isnt tidy and clean? if you feel this is the problem hope you have let the mgt know so they can do something about it, not, they will tell you they have on money for that. Alex you need to get your head from up your a** and if people want to complain on here its there right to do so and let us traveling public know what is going on.If you study the web site here there is compliments aswell as criticism so therfore making this web site a balanced view. How do you know they havnt found a manager or a member of staff about there complaint, you dont.
Dosser666, Mon 25 Oct 2010
This site is much better on the inside than it looks on the outside.Good Costa and Burger King here. Some advice for all you complainers, regardless if its regarding a motorway service area or not - Get in touch with the management and give them a chance to hear your complaint. If you are too spineless to do that - dont bother!
Alex Halford, Sun 24 Oct 2010
Just want to say well done for the way you dealt with the mass influx of police and all us that were disrupted due to the strikes at Coryton. Good service and welcoming on an unpleasant day!
Essex Pete, Sat 16 Oct 2010
My friend and I used EDC for breakast a few days ago and it was awful! By the time we found somewhere to pay (couldn't pay where food was) it was cold and the eggs were crispy! We paid £5.99 for fried bread, egg, 1/2 a tomato, sausage, bacon and beans. Basically £1 per item (for 1/2 a tomato??!!). Never again!!
sue copeland, Sun 22 Aug 2010
Stopped using this services since 2006, I was shocked to see some little changes have been made. M&S has opened and the petrol station looks better now (apart from the fuel price) but service from EDC and Costa below poor. the old lady on the hot food counter didn't know what she was doing and on costa a staff was wearing trainers?? I think the manager served me coffee and it was awful. both the edc and costa managers need to get this sorted...
John, Tue 22 Jun 2010
drove back from france heading north, pulled in to thurock services for rest in car and recived £80 parking fine. this site should not be sign posted as a public services. if this is there policy they are scum
mark horridge, Wed 9 Jun 2010
I do not know how long it takes a comment to be posted but a delay of one day means potentially hundreds of motorists suffering the same abysmal 'food' served at the EDC concession as I did on my recent visit!
John Gallard, Sat 22 May 2010
Absolutely awful. Chicken curry was dished up using a spoon with holes i.e. 'sauce' drained through the spoon back into the bain marie without a drop reaching my plate. Six small pieces of chicken on a small mound of rice...looked more like a starter. Unfortuneately the sour faced girl serving did nothing to lift the occassion. The plastic seats looked in need of a good degreasing. Normally I pass these services at 70mph I will return to 'Normal' mode in future.
John Gallard, Fri 21 May 2010
I was using this services early part of the year and I have mix views about Thurrock services. M&S and Whsmiths were great (friendly staff and both shops were managed well) but EDC on the other hand was rubbish, bad services and less we talk about food from there the better. Burger King was good.
Eric, Sun 9 May 2010
Service completely avoid for truck drivers for the night.Parking expensive, bad food and very dirty showers.Much sleep in the industrial zone 500metres, it's free and there is a super walk.Sorry for my English but I am french

Left the Midlands to Kent on Sunday 14 February 2010. Reached Thurrock Services Southbound at 11.40pm.
Stopped to use the public toilets and to get coffee.
Visiting EDC, to get the coffee only to be told that I had to also pay £8 for car parking - extortionate! The cashier continued to further advise that CCTV have noted my registration and if i failed to pay the £8 and I would get charged £80 however if I paid on time it would be reduced to £40.
I wasn’t in the mood to argue as I had a long journey ahead of me so duly paid.
I was then advised that credit card machine was not working and that I had to get cash from the ATM. Luckily, I had cash so paid and received a receipt for my coffee but not for the parking. I requested to get a receipt as I wasn’t happy with the charge as I had the intention to query why there is a car park charge!
I checked on-line today and it clearly states that 2hr are free after which there is a charge - this is understandable. But, I was parked at the services for not more than 15min, so will be pursuing this!
Mohammed, Tue 16 Feb 2010
why do you have to pay to park at a service station ,,just pointless may as well keep on driving it cheaper

I stopped at Thurrock ( MOTO 12.30 23/7/09) to use the toilet facilities in a state of desperation due to hold ups on the M25 only to find a sign ‘male operative is cleaning this facility’. Whilst it may be acceptable for a man to clean female single sex designated facilities when closed it is not acceptable when women are using them. .I checked the disabled facility but it is not available to people without a radar key. I waited around for some time in considerable discomfort for the male cleaner to finish and leave but the sign remained in place. It is undignified, humiliating and demeaning for a woman to be forced out of biological necessity to use a toilet in a single sex area with a man present. Withholding may lead to serious medical problems particularly during pregnancy and menopause. This is discriminating against women who may also need to use a toilet to change sanitary ware and is in breech of the Sex Discrimination Act (SDA) which clearly states that people may object when (ii) the holder of the job is likely to do his work in circumstances where men might reasonably object to the presence of a woman because they are in a state of undress or are using sanitary facilities or vice versa (section (Privacy & Dignity 7 (2) (b) (ii). There is also a duty to prevent psychological and physical harm which is inherent in this situation and is a potential infringement of article 8 of the Human Rights Act (1998, 2000). The provision of a cubicle is totally inadequate if the cubicle is situated in an area designated for single sex use and is not fully enclosed providing both visual and auditory privacy for the user. There are additional safety concerns for women and young girls who may find themselves alone in a female facility with a male worker (especially when the facility is downstairs and isolated) which put both the woman and the employee at risk.Warning signs which make the assumption that anyone using the facility has accepted that a member of the opposite sex may be present is not lawful and forces people to use the facility under duress. Cost cutting which compromises privacy and dignity is unacceptable and amoral and is particularly intimidating and uncomfortable for a woman travelling alone. There would be more privacy using a hedge than you are currently offering women in Moto facilities.

What ever you do don't fall asleep, or break down in the petrol station or anywhere in or around this site. You will receive a £50.00 PCN in the post over a month later [increaseing to £80.00 if not paid promptly] and despite explanation of reasonable appeal reasons it will not be considered with understanding.Just keep driving whilst tired, its cheaper........ untill you drive into a bridge pier! What are Motorway Service Stations coming to when they feel the need to charge for parking? regardless of why.

Edward Gilder, Fri 24 Nov 2006
8 o'clock on a Friday evening and the only food available was Fish & Chips or Burger King. What a choice! Generally the food is too expensive anyway, try to avoid stopping at them.
Jeremy Goy, Thu 16 Nov 2006
Yesterday after travelling from Austria via Stansted our party of 2children and 4 adults had the unfortunate experience of stopping at Thurrock Services. After enjoying a week of good food reasonably priced even at the top of mountains we paid £30.69 for 4 coffees (2 filter 2 quite awful lattes' all tepid , 2kids meals (OK) 1 bag of crisps (.99) and 4 Tuna Paninis (3.99) each.As one of the children was asleep we ate in our car all to tired to complain and accepted the tasteless coffee and indigestible paninis. Why can't your motorway outlets produce good quality reasonable priced food like the rest of Europe?h
