Sent to Northbound last week early on Monday (5.30 am) nothing was open, at least the petrol station had croisants !To add, I stopped at the southbound a couple of days later at about 7pm, great services, good facilities and my ham and cheese panini was lovely !

I stopped at these Services for the first (and last) time a couple of weeks back. To a first time user, I recall the very confusing road system on the way in... and a pretty bog standard car park...but it was food and rest that I needed mid way through a long journey north... I like to thank Moto therefore for the £100 parking fine that has just landed for the 'privilege' of using their facilities, because I failed to notice their 'clear and prominent' signs saying parking was fee for only 2 hours. Sorry Moto - didn't see any signs or ticket machines and I spent longer there than most people do... I think you need have a closer look at how this works. This customer won't ever use your places nationally again... :-(

went to try and get from northbound to southbound with a disabled person. to get there there is 2 lifts and 2 stair lifts. one lift was out of use. both stair lifts were covered up and out of use. we gave up . no way is this system disable friendly.

calling at trowel services 5pm one Friday night left me feeling ashamed, dirty tables & lazy staff not a good advert on Britain's main motorway.
Mark wagstaff, Wed 20 May 2015
My husband and I called into South bound services on Saturday December 27th 2014 and found the external pedestrian walkways lethal at approx 1pm. A guy was attending to the waste bins but surely a priority was to put down salt or grit to make the walkways safe, we noticed several folks slipping and we ourselves found it difficult to get to the facilities.

Great service from the staff during what looked to be a very busy day for them. Made my long journey seem a lot better. Thanks

Many thanks for your great feedback Donna. Its really appreciated. You will also be pleased to hear that a Greggs is opening at Trowell in 2015. A fantastic addition to the Trowell Services. Watch this space for more details. Kind regards, M.Stringfellow

Many thanks Mr Vickers for your feedback on the shower pricing at the Trowell Services. The facilities are maintained for public use on a 24 hour basis and although there is a nominal charge of £3 to use the showers if you have not made a purchase at the services, the shower facilities can be used without charge by any customer who has either payed for the parking of their vehicle, purhased minimum of £10 of fuel or £5 on any other drink or food item. I hope this clarifies the pricing policy and if you did indeed make a purchase during your visit as per the above guidelines, I will be happy o arrange a refund to you of the £3 you were charged. If this is the case please contact me at the Services on 01159 320291. Many thanks. M.Stringfellow, General Manager
Another great experience at the Trowell Services this morning. Clean building, some great brands and very friendly staff. Thanks
Matthew, Sat 6 Dec 2014
Thanks trowell for charging 3pounds for a shower. I am on 7.50 per hour. Truck drivers do a huge amount of hours and live in a box all week for little payand now we have to live like tramps by not showering. Thanks motofor your support. I will now avoid all your services for food parking andfuel. I was better treated in Afghanistan than in my own country

My wife, 10month old and myself turned up at these services on the way down to see my parents on Saturday the 22nd of November during the day and were totally disgusted with the state of the microwave and bottle warmer at the baby feeding station the microwave was very dirty and the water in the bottle warmer was so dirty it was green! We actually moved on to another services so that we could feed our little girl. I would not recommend this services for family's with very young children.

Diabolical. I broke down on the M1 on my motorcycle and was taken by the AA to Trowell Services as it was deemed a "safe place". It was 11pm at night and the place was deserted, except for 2 members of staff behind the coffee counter. It was a saturday night, and there were regular influxes of people whilst i was there waiting for another recovery truck. I was approached by a man asking me all kinds of personal questions. I asked the coffee staff if there was a public phone I could use as my mobile had died as i wanted to ring the AA and find out how long they were going to be..bear in mind I had been there 3 hours already so it was 2am in the morning! I was told there was NO PUBLIC PHONE. This is NOT a safe place, especially for a woman on her own, left stranded int he middle of the night!
Lisa, Fri 7 Nov 2014
Received a parking fee letter £100 or £50 if I paid within 14 days.
I certainly did not see any signs - although they no doubt exist among the overwhelming number of other signs. When entering the complex the drivers brain has lots to cope with - too much traffic, complex roadway system and complex designated parking areas.
I was a volunteer taxi service from Trowell to Washington Tyne & Wear. The reason for visiting was to help save the lives of 5 stray dogs which were to be put down by a pound in Milton Keynes. I arranged to meet another volunteer at Trowell Services but he was delayed by matters of "red tape".
I spent money in the restaurant and shops - and for the privelege I have a parking fee.
I will never ever stop at Trowell or indeed any other Moto establishment again.

13.7.2014 @ 7.15 pm - restaurant absolutely filthy, looked like a bomb had hit it. I appreciate there are busy times when cleaning is not easy however this was not one of them. The Assistant was more concerned about putting the football on the TV. We were hopeful when he started to clean one of the tables however he only cleaned half of it wiping the bits on to the floor with all the other food and that was that, no more tables touched! He then proceeded towards the overflowing filthy rubbish bins and we witnessed him pushing the rubbish down with his bare hands instead of emptying it and watched him return to behind the food counter without washing his hands. This is surely a health hazard and appalling practice. If we hadn't had a waiting coach to return to, we would have sought a duty manager to raise our concerns. Staff training is a must. What a disgrace!
Mrs Frost, Tue 15 Jul 2014
Stopped at Trowell Sevices 01/07/2014 at about 8am in the hope of getting a breakfast. Only one person serving, while another 'twiddled' her thumbs on the till. A long queue built up two people behind me left. When I got near the front 'No sausages' came the remark from the girl serving. Something else was not ready, the chap in front asked how long 'five minutes.' When I asked why there were no sausages 'because they haven't been delivered.' came the curt reply. That's an excuse not an answer. Went elsewhere and won't be using Trowell in the future. Marks out of ten, 0

I visited the services on Wed 2nd April with my wife and disabled mother-in-law. I was most disappointed with the disabled toilet facilities. Having walked to the toilets, I left my wife to deal with her mother. They found that the key was only available from the Costa coffee facility near the entrance. This was a long way to walk back with a disabled person and totally crazy. I know the toilets are being refurbished but this needs to be looked at immediately and rectified. Please, for the sake of other disabled people, make different arrangements to this.

Traveling back from Inverness about 2.30am on Sunday morning, I called into trowell services and bought diesel for the van I was driving. Being very tired, I attempted to buy a black coffee from the female member of staff, who was locked in the shop. Despite the coffee machine being only a few feet away from her, she snapped, "you'll have to get one from the main building!" I've worked in customer service for 18 years and have rarely seen customers treated that way. The member of staff was lazy and ignorant and has training needs. There were no other customers waiting, she just couldn't be bothered, I will drive past next time and use another motorway services

Stopped at Trowell early Tuesday morning en route to London.
Never had a bad experience here and my last visit was no exception, staff friendly, food reasonable and facilities clean.

Many thanks to the guy who looked after my daughters I phone after it was left in the ladies toilet cubicle. Not many honest people around these days so I am very grateful to the. Loo cleaner who was gracious to keep it safe. For us until we realised it had been left!Huge thanks.

Beware of the on site Burger King. The staff are slow moving and a few customers commented "glad I'm not in a rush, ridiculous service"Also no hot drinks served at the Burger King although I paid for a drink there, I had to go else where for my coffee.
Simon, Sat 27 Jul 2013
The place is shabby, Costa staff do not listen to your order / try and sell you larger coffee's than you ask for and it is expensive. Avoid !.
Graham love, Wed 10 Apr 2013
I traveled from London back to Ilkeston I needed to use the toilet and get a drink the south bound toilets were disgusting and the coffee from costs was cold when I complained to the manager she didn't want to know and was really stuben. Il remember for next time not to stop there!
sally inquieti, Mon 8 Apr 2013
I won't be stopping at these services again. I regularly travel the length and breadth of the country stopping at motorway services which are at best overpriced already. However when I ordered my meal from the on-site Burger King franchise this week I was told I could not have a coffee with my meal as the site management had decided they would no longer offer hot drinks from B-K as there are other hot drink outlets on site, so now as well as paying over the odds for my regular B-K meal I'm also expected to pay another £2 or so for a cup of coffee.Several customers walked away from the counter before me, without ordering, and the counter staff agreed that this decision was not helpful. At least Moto could offer a voucher to go to Costa or one of the other coffee outlets on site ?
John Morgan, Sat 30 Mar 2013
Watch yourself at this services especially in w h Smith's. There is a member of staff called keebo who is a snappy character. She has no customer service skills at all and one heck of a foul attitude. She makes a nice service station scum.

I am grateful to a member of Moto's staff (Sara Farrant) for holding onto my lost wallet and then posting it to me at home. I couldn't remember where I had lost the wallet and it was only when I got home a week later that a message on my answer machine revealed it had been handed in at Trowell. Unfortunately I had already cancelled all my credit cards, but there were other things in the wallet that I was very glad to have back, including some cash.
Thank you Sara.

My partner, a tour manager with Newmarket Promotions, visited Trowell Services this morning bringing a coach party of 50 pax. Both she & the coach driver were asked to pay for their meals when it is the normal policy to offer driver & tour guide a complimentary meal. The manager was extremely rude & when the driver & tour guide declined to pay for the meals at the till the manager simply binned the food. This is a warning for all coach drivers & tour managers. If you wish to bring business to any motorway services I would suggest you stay clear of Trowell services if you wish to receive the customary complimentary meal. After all there are many other services who will be happy to oblige. Happy New Year

Took a break here as I was working the London run to cover for a sick colleague.
Overall not bad, toilets/shower weren't too bad. It would appear there aren't sufficient staff on the night shift and the ones working were doing their best given the large amount of work they are expected to clear. Come on Moto management, Trowell is one of the better MSA I have used but standards will slip without it being properly staffed!
Gary Farrimond, Sun 23 Sep 2012
Called here (going south) on Sunday 22nd July whilst towing a caravan. There are no clear signs to show where caravans should park so I ended up with only the coach park left. Went into the empty coach park and enquired if I can use that; apparently not, there is a penalty charge. You can't get back to the other parking areas so we went and ate at another services.
I hope the management of this service area read these comments. A small investment in a sign at the entrance would result in more customers who tow caravans.
Alan Clark, Mon 23 Jul 2012
Fined for falling asleep.
My brother in-law was fined recently at these services for falling asleep in his car for 4 hours!
Was on the road and pulled over to rest and have a nap as the highway code/AA/RAC/POLICE etc tell you to do for road safely.
You then get a fine for doing so becuase you dont see the signs regarding the charge for over two hours parking(there should be a free rest and sleep area)You shouldnt have to pay for keeping our roads safe to have a nap at services......Another way to make money to line someones pocket at the expence of tired law abiding road users

Trowell is a fairly good motorway services in comparison with most. However, like most services, prices have gone through the roof here in recent years. Moto have taken over most motorway services and removed McDonalds because of their fair pricing policy. The result has been that if you buy a meal at any Moto services you must pay not far off double what you would pay in a town centre fast food outlet.OK, that is probably true of the other providers, except that at some of the services run by the other providers you may find a McDonalds, where you can pay the same price as you would on the high street. So, why not save yourself some money and either take a packed lunch (definitely the cheapest and healthiest option!) or go to a services with a McDonalds like Tibshelf (southbound only) and Woodall (northbound but accessible across bridge from southbound)!
Neil Jackson, Sat 2 Jun 2012
Don't often call here as I'm not often on the London runs for work.
Have to say standards are largely the same each time I have stopped here and those standards are excellent. Wish you could give your colleagues on the M6 sites a boot up the backside. You have put some thought into catering for those of us that work overnight and have to make stops.
Gary Farrimond, Sun 15 Apr 2012
Traveled North on 13/3 and stopped for breakfast in the EDC restaurant and was very impressed at how fresh the food was to say it was a motorway services. The whole process of ordering and paying was a credit to the company. A very organized and 'well oiled' team as i like to call it. I was served by a lovely young man at the food counter (I think he was the Supervisor, which is nice to see.) and then had a very happy lady make me a cappuccino and even had my breakfast brought to my table as I had ordered extra toast. The staff mad genuine conversation whilst ordering and to say they started at 6.30 were very cheery! This has changed my view on MSA's and I will make a stop here again! Best service with a smile I've had in a long time. Made me smile all day! Thanks again!
Graham Smith, Fri 16 Mar 2012
Please, douse the lorry park with disinfectant. We parked there with our caravan for half an hour today. The stench of urine was overwhelming. Really worried that we picked it up on the soles of our shoes and trod it into the car. It will be a long time before we put ourselves through that experience again.

I had a wonderful time having my birthday party at Trowell services. There was a large seating area for us all and we all had a glorious time drinking copious amounts of Expresso - The staff were lovely and didn't even mind all the noise we were making. Highly recommended to anyone seeking an original party venue.

Stopped here for breakfast in the EDC, as I have done before when setting out early. Food good but its a rip-off to charge extra for tomato ketchup or brown sauce when someone pays £8 for breakfast. Also, went to the gents and there were not sufficient cubicles. Additionally, the toilet seats were missing in two that I tried, and the place was not particularly clean.

I was travelling North after returning from holidays on 14/7/11, i was feeling very tired, i dont normally stop at service stations after a bad experience a few years ago. May I say how the industry has changed. I visited the Costa Coffee and was pleasantly suprised, the shop was clean and well kept and although the staff were rushed off their feet, the customer service was fantastic, i was helped to my table and the cashier made genuine conversation with me, something which is hard to come be nowadays. Overall a fantastic visit and will definetely visit trowell again.
Mrs Stansfield, Sat 16 Jul 2011
Excellent fish and chips - freshly cooked, good value and served with a smile! Thanks guys. Will stop here again.

I was travelling during the night, and started to feel sleepy at the wheel, so I pulled into Trowel Moto services to have a rest and go to the toilet, also pay for a sandwich etc, as I have done many times as I travel up and down the country quite a bit, thought nothing about my sleep and arrived home safely, as the signs on the motorway say "tiredness kills" etc etc.A few days later I get a car parking charge for £80 for having a nap, as it went over the two hours !! Well I just paid for it early, and it cost me £50 plus £1 proccesing fee. Bargain not!!All I want to say is that, its absolutley disgusting raking money in like that, what do they want me to do, fall asleep at the wheel and kill someone, I wont be using any moto services again and hopefully you have all been warned too!! Also have told friends, family and coleagues about this legalised robbery.Shame on you all at MOTO who has anything to do with setting these roberies up.

A problem in common with all motorway servics areas is a complete lack of sandwiches that do not contain mayonnaise. Anyone who does not like or does not want mayonnaise in their sandwich is completely out of luck.
I stopped here on April 15th to buy a sandwich. I picked up a sandwich at the Burger King which had a short queue and apparently no attendant serving. One person in the queue said, "I can't wait any longer!" and walked off. I followed, returning the sandwich to the display and went to WH Smith and searched through their sandwiches. Burger King had only one sandwich that did not contain mayonnaise and WH Smith had NONE! I mentioned this to the attendant at the till of WH Smith and was met with "They put mayonnaise on everything". I suggested that perhaps she should pass on my comment to her manager but she shrugged her shoulders and said nothing further. I left there with a Ginsters Cornish Pasty which was not what I really wanted, I just needed something to tide me over until my hotel dinner some 3 hours further on. A sandwich without mayonnaise would be have been nice.
Mike, Sat 23 Apr 2011
I travelled back from Hull yesterday (27th Dec) and called in as it is my usual stopping place but the whole of South section was closed. No explanation, no signs but everyone had to walk over the bridge and use the North bound facilities resulting in a 15 minute wait for the toilets. Disgraceful and very disappointing. Heaven help anyone who was disabled, with young children or had any kind of health problem.
Heather Burley, Tue 28 Dec 2010
Visited North on Saturday evening, called in Costa Coffee, was served by a lovely young man and lady. Both very polite and helpful. Assisted me to my table with my wife. Drinks were lovely and warm served in clean crockery. Seating area was very clean too, with plenty of choice of seats, you don't find this often in motorway service stations. The two lovely staff were busy serving when we left and i didn't want to disturb them so I would like to thank them now and let them know how grateful me and my wife are! Will defiantly call again!
Mr. T. Newberry, Mon 8 Nov 2010
Good visit but left phone behind. Staff were great - quickly got message to me via last person dialled, helpful when I called, and posted it to me quickly -thanks!

I arranged to meet business colleagues at this service station as I normally do, it is convenient for the geographical spread of my team. We normally meet up and have a bite to eat and a drink whilst discussing business, this was no different, however I arrived before my Managers to finish my preparation for the meeting. Unfortunately I ended up staying for over the 2 hour limit, I received a fixed penalty charge and despite writing to the relevant authority explaining what had happened, I was told it did not matter how often I went there or how much I spent, the charge stood, unless, I could provide dates, times and how much I spent, this is impossible. I will from now be using another establishment, not on the motorway

I know that Moto have an appeals process for anyone who feels they shouldn't have received a parking notice. If you or someone you know has been a customer or fallen asleep and a parking notice has been issued, log onto the moto web site and get in touch with them. They also have a duty manager available who can deal with any customer concerns or queries before you leave site.

My son stopped at this service station at 1.00 a.m. one evening to take a break. He was tired and losing concentration whilst driving. As 'tiredness kills' he decided to take a break as suggested. He slept for a couple of hours and then continued his journey. A few days later he received a parking fine! Where else could he have parked - on the motorway hard shoulder?

Yes i went there at 10pm on a Sunday. But nothing was open, the door just about, toilets closed off (found one in the end). Excellent .

They were clean enough, but the building wasn't as up to date as many other services. Could be compared to Rownhams Services. Stopped a few weeks ago, and there were cleaners in there for the whole 40mins I was there!

I was absolutely disgusted with the service from burger king myself and my family received on 23/8/2009, they were coming up to closing time, this I knew and I asked if they were ok to still serve me.....i wish they had said no.... I was not allowed to have my order I had to have left overs, this comprised of two bacon double cheese burgers and two angus burgers, no drinks, no chips and it still cost me £18.00... firstly OTT cost, secondly not what I wanted, thirdly a very rude and obstinant manager! I will never stop there again.

Stopped here recently and the place certainly left a positve impression.
I shlept in the passenger seat with my feet on the dash for a full 2 hours. I had some knots in my neck in the morning but thankfully the massage chair got them out.
I don't want to live in a world without Trowell services.
Stu Remnants, Mon 20 Oct 2008
Credit where credit is due stopped here recently and was impressed. Clean toilets and a reasonable selection for food even at 2am in the morning. The site seemed well laid out & clean.

My partner & I stopped for an evening meal on Tuesday 29th April. We decided to share fish and chips. The delightful girl behind the hot food counter, whose name I didn't make a note of unfortunately, offered to cut a piece of fish in half and divide the whole meal between two plates. She was smily throughout and prepared some of the best fish and chips either of us have had for a long time. We'd like her to know that we really appreciated the trouble she took and we'd like you to know that such good members of staff are worth nurturing.

I work at trowell services and i think that there should be more staff on night shift
Lisa, Tue 4 Mar 2008
We stopped here on while towing a caravan. The caravans have to be parked with the lorries - we were totally dwarfed by these huge juggernauts which had to manouvere to park. The facilities inside looked good ( toilets were OK ) but we did not stop as we were worried about leaving our car, caravan and dogs in the lorry park. It was also scary crossing the lorry park to get to the services.
Brenda Piears, Fri 25 May 2007
I must say I am very shocked to see that Trowell is a 2 burgers MSA. I think that it deserves at least 3 burgers which I think would fairly reflect the fact that while the petrol station is very accessible the toilets are utterly disgusting - not the best by any means, but certainly not the worst and not deserving of its 2 burgers status. Come on everyone, lets support the Trowell.
Craig Noble, Fri 1 Dec 2006
i think we need more staff on nights please

Trowell Services M1 is a 4 burger rated service area.
Your overall impression of Trowell Services M1:
You must choose one of the overall ratings, above. Optionally, you can also give a rating for any or all of the other options.
Based on your own experience, would you say that this is a good service area for
