Why the hell is petrol Â£1.32 a litre???

My husband parked his car at Watford Gap Northbound for about 15 mins. The car was locked but thieves can block the electronic signal that locks cars apparently. They stole electronic items and cash from the glove box. The insurance company said to get them to check their CCTV. I phoned and was told there is no CCTV outside which I find surprising. We know the exact time and the car was near the building.

Signs invite you to contact them if you have a problem. Don't hold your breath! I bought a Costa coffee and was given change for Â£5 instead of Â£10. The manager checked the CCTV but her response was not convincing. The email I sent to Roadchef on 22nd August asking them to check the CCTV themselves has been ignored. Beware!

Appalling selection of food - fat, fat and oh a McDonald's. High calorie and fat laden costa sarnies & cake, cream laden noodle curry bar, McDonald's and a cafe selling sandwiches without nutrition labels. No fruit or veg in sight. Felt like the 70s. Requires modernisation and decent food for those whose thighs don't chafe while walking and who have seen their feet recently.

My daughter and I stopped at McDonalds last Saturday night around 10pm. Having been diverted onto the M1 and finding 17 miles of roadworks, the journey was frustrating so we decided to take a break. We entered the McDonalds and were happy to find only one person in line. We waited nearly 20 minutes while the one person was being served, even though it turned out this was an employee getting his meal and two employees behind the counter saw it as their primary mission to not only both handle his order, but then find out if he had to pay! Then we waited while his food was being prepared and bagged up. At other McDonalds (where there is normally more than one person serving) the process is you order your food, then stand aside while another employee puts the order together, allowing the next person to place their order, and so on. When we were finally given our bag of food to go, there were seven people behind us waiting, and the lady behind us asked staff if it was normal for only one person to be serving and putting the orders together. The second person had finished his shift and left. The manager on duty passed this long line on his way out without even noticing that service was less than 'fast', he seemed more interested in joking about with other employees hanging around the office door. To top it off, we got to the car only to discover the contents of the bag were not what we had ordered, so we had to brave the wrath of the line of people to have our order corrected. The chicken and bacon wrap was swimming in sauce,rendering it inedible.
I am sure that McDonalds sets very high standards for its franchise holders. This one fails every category.Recommend travellers give this one a pass..

McDonald's visit yesterday was just bizarre giggling staff slow service manager on his own mobile whilst serving customers then they shut for no obvious reason but and we were last to be served. As we walked off the manger shouted right sterilise everything. I couldn't eat my meal for wondering what the hell was going in. Terrible service no information. Won't be stopping there again.

Customer services at Watford Gap Services could be described in 2 words: Absolutely disgusting ! Had exactly the same experience in McDonald's as the previous lady- Bryanne about 4days ago! I will never stop at that place again!After waiting for a good 15 min to order, somebody pushed in front and started arguing, none of the staff did anything about it, I got so annoyed so decided to leave even though my boyfriend and I have been on the road for 3h and we were very hungry!
Hilton Park services are a lot more decent and I have noticed that the manager of the station actually checks the comments on this page and answers/ appologises to customers if there are any negative comments and even offers to help with any inquiry the customers may have, but the reviews are mostly positive. That's how customer services should be! Watford Gap Services are a disgrace and they should do something about it asap!

I Visited this road he'd and stopped at McDonald's with my fiancÃƒÂ© intend bh to order lunch. After a lengthy queue I finally got to the front desk to place an order and a member of the public push in front of me. Shannonwho works at this facility and who at the time was behind the cashier desk taking orders could clearly see this chap and girlfriend who were in the queue next to me had pushed in. I tried to explain that there were evidently two separate queues and Shannon rudely told ME I was after this guy and he was in front when it was quite obvious he wasn't. With no apology or acknowledgement of how incredible rude she was and this customer when I finally had a chance to explainthat in fact we have queued for a while her excuse wasn't he couldn't see me. At no point did she apologise. She was incredibly rude and obviously has no knowledge of customer care. I appreciate this might seem like a small ordeal but actually the exprlerience was distressing given that this hostile and aggressive customer who pushed in was twice u size and quite short with me . I would have thought Shannon would be more observant in future rather than rude and presumptuous. Very disappointed.

I had to stop at the watford gap southbound today (12/11/2014) at 11.15.I am a disabled man and I had to your disabled toilets, now despite the reassurance of the manager of w.h.Smith telling me that these toilets are cleaned regularly this was not the reality of my visit.They were a disgrace but I was desperate I had to go so I used the best of the two but on my leaving I cruches slipped and I went over, Whilst I was not hurt I am very angry.now I realise they are under redevelopment that is not an excuse.I am very dissappointed and will do my best to avoid these services in the future.

High kerbs are to stop large vehicles using the car area. Would you rather park amongst all the trucks and coaches? If you can't avoid hitting the kerbs either learn to drive or use a different service area. In my experience as a regular user of the entire motorway network RoadChef are by far the best followed by Extra and Welcome Break. Avoid Moto at all costs!!I hope this helps.

Hi , I would just like to share my experience with everyone about Mcdonalds south bound watford gap. I turned up expecting the usual good service and cleanliness most Mcdonald restaurants provide only to find all the tables were dirty so nowhere to sit about 20 of them, rubbish all over the floor and behind the counter floor, and when I mentioned it eventually a member of staff came out banging chairs around in obvious protest. Not a pleasant experience I won't go back.

I do not normally use service station facilities but today I decided that I would stop and use the toilet facilities and then get a bite to eat. I went to the loo and struggled to find a cubicle that wasn't vandalised or had a door that locked. The toilet facility was absolutely disgusting dirty and dated. With personal hygiene in mind I decided that I would wait until I got to my destination sooner than use your facility. Needless to say not only did I not use the toilet but I didn't bother with a bite to eat either. I believe that at the very least your facility should offer clean hygienic and secure cubicles. I wonder if any of the managers have seen the state of the loos and if you have then you should be ashamed. Certainly one to avoid...

I visited the northbound side of this services. I have MS and i just couldn't believe how far the disabled toilet was from the main entrance it couldn't have been any further away!!! When I get tired I find walking difficult and I was tired on this occasion so it took me some time to get from the disabled car parking spaces to the toilet and back in discomfort!!

Ive just been reading the comments and I'm gobsmacked I remember many years ago calling to use the services and in the Ladies was a very big coloured lady in attendance and what I was seeing really threw me , all the copper pipe work was shined to a level that u could see ur face the lady in question had a great smile and was so helpful as soon as u washed ur hands she was there cleaning the basin, she had a little dish and people would give her a little tip well the Ã‚Â£5 pounds was amazing in fact I put 2 of the old pound notes in the dish as she really took pride in her job Ive never forgot how great it was,I have a Hair Salon in Anglesey North Wales and have just been telling one of my clients about it and told her when i get a minute I'm going to Google so u can imagine my Horror reading what people have had to say .What the heck is going on what a shame I've never forgot that great lady and the pride she showed in her work Audrey from Wales

Stopped southbound and went to McDonald's for lunch. Plenty of staff including 3 yes 3 managers standing talking and it took 10 mins to get my food. This place needs sorting out!

Looks like the services have not changed in two years! Reading the comments from Feb 12. Called in south bound mainly for old dog break, thought I will pop in toilets, oh dear, one blocked with sick, the next excrement. The only funny part was a dad with his child in the next cubicle shouting, Stand still don't touch anything #:-) guess they had been before. Your better going in the bushes with the dogs.

After a horrid journey due to road closures, detours and shear volume of traffic, we stopped at Watford Gap. I have never had the pleasure of using these services before. Firstly I thought I was going to damage my car going through a very tight entrance point with very high curbs. It appeared the car park was a one way drive but no signs to clarify and people were getting annoyed with other drivers. When safely parked, we ventured into the services (I must say it's not the prettiest service station I have used before, but desperate for the loo and in need for food, it would do). After a visit to the rather dirty toilets, I then queued up at McDonalds (you can't go wrong with a McDonalds). Well. I was behind one person but it took 15 minutes for me to be served (fast good didn't seem to apply to staff here). After placing my order, I again was kept waiting another 15 minutes for my food. Standing at the counter I was disgusted to see how dirty the floor was, the Cook was hitting his chin with his spatula whilst talking to another member of staff, there was no motivation from anyone here, in fact I really do think snails move faster! Now for the food - the chicken sandwich was like eating rubber, the chips tasted of old fat and the milkshake was like water. I would of complained to the manager if I could have them but in the end I felt drained from the whole experience. This services really need to shape up!

Visited Costa for a cup of tea, wish Costa wouldn't add milk without asking how you take your tea, mine was a cup of watery milk. Asked for another one, was given the wrong cup size, couldn't lived with it but it ain't cheap so asked for the size I had returned. Honestly, it was like pulling teeth!!
Visited mcdonalds, waited ages to be served the ages for just a sandwich :( was only in the devices for 25mins and felt exhausted when leaving...erm not a welcome break at all!! I suggest an intense customer service course for staff and price watch as I'm baffled as to how this government and country allow services stations to her away with charging more than anywhere else.
On exiting the car park, managed by CP-Plus, we struggled to exit the ridiculously small exit point guarded by 10" curbs on a sharpe bend, we took the guided directions but these don't help and ended up scratching the side of the car on the 10" curb. Be warned, this car park isn't the best if planning and you could meet the a same misfortune we did.
Overall experience was awful.
I'll now get down from my soap box!!

My comments are aimed at the McDonalds on each side mostly.
Northbound the service was slow, the food was cold and they messed up the order (November 2013)...Southbound the service was slow, the food was hot and all was correct (February 2014).
I found it a little cold in the Southbound McDonalds and absolutely freezing in the Northbound, the whole services was cold.

I visited this service station on the north bound side today and was very disappointed. I am disabled and can only walk short distances. The disabled toilets were a good distance away. When I came to wash my hands, it was difficult to turn on the tap as the soap dispenser was just above it with very little room between. And the tap looked as if it hadn't been cleaned since the station was built.

Why all the negative comments? I visited Watford gap last week and all the staff were friendly to me and yes it was busy, but what do you expect? I think that the staff worked extremely well under the conditions and always held a smile (Costa and WH Smiths). The costa coffee here was the same as any other shop I've been in so what more can you ask for?!

Called into watford gap today and it was rundown tired and dirty service station went to use the loo and the one I chose was covered in excrement which had dried on the seat walland base of toilet, i0I didnt use the loo but couldnt find anyone the wholetime I was there.

Stopped for a break here a few hours into a journey and decided to have lunch - a big mistake.
Firstly I was confused by the burger place, it seems to have been modelled on a Burger King with very familiar photos, fonts and counter etc but it's nothing like when it comes to the final product. I spent Ã‚Â£18 on a couple of burger meals and a kids meal (which came without a toy) and basically got a couple of rubber burgers that were more like the microwave ones you buy in a supermarket for a pound.
The service in "The Burger Company" wasn't great, the solitary high-chair was filthy and the overall experience was negative.
The rest of the services seem tired but it was busy and I guess that's all they want, our money rather than repeat custom. I wish I'd carried on a bit further to the next services.

Travelling north on 27th April 2013 we stopped at the Watford Gap Service Area. The ladies toilets were dirty, messy and tatty. It was quite difficult to find a toilet fit for use and not many cubicles had loo roll. There was paper and rubbish on the floor. The washbasins were dirty and the area around them was tatty. There was rubbish left on the worktops. Some taps did not work and the soap dispensers were really dirty where you have to push them. This was not a pleasant experience at all. I looked for a member of staff to complain to but could not find anyone - probably all hiding! What is the explanation for this state of affairs? Could someone please tell me. This is really not acceptable where you are offering a service.

DO NOT EAT ANYTHING FROM HERE!! I stopped in at the southbound services and got a burger from The Burger Company. It was rank!! Not only, along with the chips, was it cold, but the meat tasted weird and the lettuce was all woody and tough and the bun was stale. It was awful. Now also I have been laid up or two days possibly more with FOOD POISONING from this very burger. I know it was the burger because it was all I ate that day and I know a fair amount about food safety. Please everybody do yourself a favour and stop somewhere else.

I stopped for breakfast travelling southbound, and was impressed at the food and service (less so at the prices, but captive audience and all that).
However, the state of the gents toilets was awful.The "countdown to next attendant visit" was broken - good start.Most of the toilets were either out of order, or the lock broken, or the flush inadequate. Please sort this out, as I won't be visiting again. In contrast, Leicester Forest East on my return journey was actually clean.
With the prices that are charged for fuel and food at services in general, I expect a better service.

Stopped for a coffee and a cake at Costa and a trip to the loo.
Toilets just being cleaned - okay - nothing special but just about adequate.
The Costa was shocking tho! AVOID AVOID. Harrassed server with what looked to be a new Barista making the coffee. The bloke who made the coffee STANK of BO and he handled the glass of my latte by putting his hand right round the TOP of the glass, just where I would put my MOUTH when trying to drink it. Utterly DISGUSTING.

I wish that I had read these comments before visiting, Roadchef should be ashamed to put their name to such a place. Three sandwiches for sale to be eaten from dirty and sticky tables, the only busy place was the toilets and that must have been out of necessity as they were dirty with equipment broken and not working. What visitors to our country must think I dread to think!

What a dump !!!I had the misfortune to visit this place today. If only we could have waited till the next services.The carpark was a nightmare but at least they were trying to fix it.In 30 years of motorway services, this has to be the worst experience ever.Burger place was shut, Costa was busy so we went to the hot food cafe.Ã‚Â£13 for a breakfast !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's buying a hot drink also which was actually the only thing which was hot. It was warmer outside.I actually took pictures of my 'special breakfast' which I will be sending to the operators.The contents of my breakfast were cold, old and really fit for the bin. You may well ask why I accepted it; having been on the road for 4 hours, I could have eaten a scabby cat, actually I may have !!!The toilet were disgusting, photos again to the operator. To cut a short story shorter, do not think of using Watford gap or even road chef at all!!

Watford Gap services have to be the worst I have ever been in and that is both directions of travel.
The toilets appear to always have half blocked off and the other half that are supposed to be open are digusting and some overflowing.
The food left a lot to be desired too.
Stay away if you have any sense!!

I stopped here for a short break returning to London from Bradford.
All I can say, is that if there are service areas in Romania, Uzbekistan or Bangladesh then this is must be what they look like. The car park and access roads are in an appalling condition - potholed and patched, with white lines virtually worn away. Signage minimal and faded with age. Litter strewn everywhere around the fuel station and HGV exit, obviously not cleared for weeks. Grabbed a bite in the main cafe which was predictably dire and overpriced. Gents toilets disgusting, with taps and handryers not working and wall panels missing.
This is a completely life-expired facility that desperately needs COMPLETE rennovation. There were three Dutch cars lined up next to me, and I felt embarrassed just looking around. The operator of this site should be utterly ashamed of themselves - it's a national disgrace.

I was in the N side of your services last night (about 18.45) and there were no lights in the car park. There were people wandering around in the dark among circulating traffic and I felt it very dangerous. Added to this the surface is very uneven, with potholes and puddles making it likely that people will fall over, also the bay markings and directions have virtually all worn away. All in all, the conditions are just waiting for a serious accident to happen.As you now know of the problems you should do something about it quickly as the blame for any accident could fall on you personally and corporately.** I expect a reply to indicate that the problem is acknowledged and will be acted on.

Mens toilets had no water !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What kind of service station thinks this is acceptable in 2012? If I go to the toilet, or any of my children (as we did, in fact), what on earth are we expected to wash our hands with? What do you expect us to do if we then go to the restaurant & order some food, have a burger from McD, handle the milk jugs in Costa, pick up magazines in Smiths etc? Ask yourselves some basic questions - is it acceptable to keep the service station open if a basic standard of hygiene can't be met?

Called in for "nature break" not having been here for over 30 years I guess! It hasn't changed at all, still a complete dump! And as for the size of the potholes on the way out southbound, think I'd have lots my car if I'd driven into them!!

Stopped here (northbound) for a toilet break Sunday 14th Oct about 2.05PM.Toilets disgusting, Costa Coffee just about OK.On returning to car luggage had been stolen from boot. Car was locked with remote as usual. Apparently thieves are using electronic devices to clone remote signals to get into cars.Suggest great caution here, make sure one person stays with the car at all times, if you are travelling alone dont stop here. Apparently there is no CCTV.

having stopped at Watford gap service I pulled in to the HGV car park and as i went to pull in to a space I had to shunt back to get in to the space I then walked in to get some food after waiting 4 about 10 to 15 mins my food was ready as I got some condiments a young man asked if I was the driver of a said truck to which I said yes and then he calmed I had hit it in the car park NO WAY I SAID then looking at the pin dent under the drivers mirror I asked just which part of my truck had hit it and after all 4 witness said different places I asked them 2 show me which part of my truck could have done that small amount of damage I was told they did not no however I still had hit it they said when I went to go back in side I was asked where I was going and I said to see if there is any CCTV and was told by the 4 there is only 2 CCTV one when you drive in to the place and one on the building its self which is not facing towards where this happened to cut a long story short this sucks if there was more CCTV this would probably not happened and as a trucker to any one wanting good food and no frills try jnc 16 the red lion you will not get better

Stopped to have a breakfast but because the person who was serving us could not understand English or I could not understand him and got the wrong impression of your 2 meals for 12 pounds and was charged full price we had to wait for the bacon and eggs to be cooked for 10 minutes and he already served the rest of breakfast up so by the time we got through the checkout and our table the meal was cold except bacon and egg toast was undercooked the only good thing was your superviser as he helped me when I complained and refunded my money back and I won't be calling at watford again.

Heading north on 2nd August 2012 I stopped at Watford Gap Services. The toilets were disgustingly smelly, the coffee from Costa was dish water despite paying for an extra shot and to top it all the machine supplied for customers to comment was broken. Will not be returning.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, I have never in my 23 years seen such filthy toilets as those on the southbound services today 2/8/12 at 10.45am. I mentioned to staff and they said well did yo use I said no they responded with well you can do it next to your truck if you want to.

Going north, the mens toilets stank, especially the urinal area, and my wife used the disabled toilet and said it was dirty and smelly. If the weather turns hot, I cannot imagine how this service station cn stay open unless the toilet maintenance is drastically improved.What a disgrace!

This is my last ever roadchef visit. I stopped here in the dead of night 3am to be exact, I needed a nap as I was in fear of driving off the road and crashing. After hitting a succession of 17 pot holes, I thought i was going off road, but no, its actually the entrance to the car park, which hasn't been repaved since the war. I nipped in for a quick bathroom break-the toilets haven't had any air freshener in them since the sewage tanks exploded back in 1996. 'It stinks', being the understatement of the century.So I go for a little nap and wake up 3.5hrs later, I was so tired its not even funny. 3 weeks later, I have now received a parking charge in the post. Since when do you have to pay for sleeping in a car park at a petrol station?

I came down from Harrogate last Sunday with my disabled boyfried when we decided to stop off for lunch at one of the motorway service points. Little did we realise the next stop was Watford.
The toilets although reasonably clean was lacking soap. These facilities should be checked twice a day.
Went to get food and a cup of tea. I bought a pannini which at the checkout I asked to be toasted and the young man said yes and would bring it over when it was ready. After about 10mins of waiting I had to go up to the counter and queue jump to ask an assistant where my food was. English was not her first language, so she looked at me somewhat blankly. Hand to explain 3 or 4 times I was waiting for my paninni.
Turned out someone left it on the counter under the 'hot lamps'. It certainly was not toasted and was less luke warm. The cheese was not even marginally melted. The meal for 2 sandwiches and 2 teas was expensive too.
Getting into the car park is another bugbear, badly signposted, badly marked bays, and the road is still badly potholed.
As one of the main service stations to take you up north, I think you could do better.

I use service stations regularly and look upon them as a necessary (outrageously expensive) evil. But I have to say, Watford Gap Services has to take the award for Most Disgusting - Stinking-Filthy Service station! How they have the nerve to open is beyond me and if that is the first impression foreigners have then I'm surprised they come back! They really should shut it down or refurbish it. I will never go there again and will advise people to avoid it at all costs!

I drive the M6/M1 every week, twice a week, and visited this on the south side - this service station is simply outrageous in its poor provision. The toilets are like something from a 3rd world shanty town, mostly broken, overflowing with feces, broken doors, water and urine everywhere, no soap etc. I am amazed that this can be allowed under any health and safety rules. The car park is also very poorly surfaced and marked out - and mind out for the exit route, there is a pothole there that could swallow a tank.

Having read the trivia about Watford gap, we were slightly disappointed With the lack of history surrounding the building. Potentially a new revenue in 'I've been to the first service station' tshirts and 'my brother went to Watford gap and all I got was this jumper' merchandise could make it more exciting. On arrival there was no electronic doors but the atmosphere was bright and open....which for a rainy Friday night was welcome! As noted previously we were there for the McDonald's experience. While the food was the usual standard brilliance, the service unfortunately was slow with staff preferring to discuss their night out than serve a cheese burger and chips. We were also keen to check the price of a cup of tea following on from a previous comment, but someone was blocking the view. The highlight of the trip was randomly meeting a friend from London and swapping trivia stories. In other feedback the ladies toilets weren't too bad although the long corridor to walk to get to them could have benefited from a travelator. For the weary there were a couple of massage chairs and a chill out loungeM.I.A the cat was slightly put off by the youths and opted to stay in the car.
Overall kj would give it a six, Chris 3 & 1/2 cat faces, Paul gives it a 4 out of 5 as the car park experience was really nice and Amy would give it 75%.

We stopped at the Watford Gap services to use the toilets. They were absolutely filthy and really a health hazard. As a result of this we certainly did not stop for a refreshing cup of coffee. Is the service area due to be closed down very soon or are they short of staff with cleaning materials? On leaving we noticed how uneven and in desperate need of resurfacing the forecourt and entrance to the services are. We actually wonder if we should report it to the health and safety officers?

Saturday 21st Jan 2012 - my elderly mother was left stranded at the southbound services as the Thandhi coach she was travelling on, left without her. My mum was very upset and confused. I want to commend and thank the staff at the BP garage at the services who looked after my mum, calming her down and helping her to contact my sister and me so we could collect her. Big heartfelt thanks to Jenny especially in the BP petrol station. She and her team couldnt do enough to help my mum.BP / Watford Gap Services Mgt - if you do any Employee Recognition Schemes, Jenny deserves to be recognised.

Jan 11th 6pm. This is the third time in 2 months i have been hassled by the same characters claiming to need money for fuel cos their company fuel card cant be accepted in a motorway service garage. As i sat having my coffee i watched this young man (approx late twentys) and an older man con a vast amount of innocent travellers out of pocket. Several friends have told me this scam is now spreading along the motorway services. I would advise taking appropriate action and making travellers aware of this intimidating scam or eventually lose custom.

We had to stop at the services at 10pm on Tuesday 15th Nov and found most of the place closed. The carpark is not well lit and my friend who like me is disabled fell as a result of a pothole about the size of a hand on the carpark walking towards the main doors. This shows poor maintenance to the carpark in general which you have to walk across as there are no footpaths on the carpark itself. the actual facilities that were open were adequate though communication was not good as most of the staff on duty were not native speaking, this is not a rascist comment just an oservation that my northern accent seemed to cause them some difficulty.

I'd not visited this site in all my years on the road, 22 of them, until Northbound recently opened a McDonalds outlet. Generally I only stay at services with a McDonalds as they charge a realistic price for a cup of tea, 85p to Ã‚Â£1 depending on outlet. This one doesn't to live up to expectations. Good fast efficient service and friendly staff. Chatty at night when I've called in tired and weary which is always welcome. The whole of the main building is clean, has lots of comfy seating and a selection of costa, Hot food outlet and Mcdonalds for food and a WH Smith for shopping, soon to be joined by Cotton Traders for clothes . Toilets are clean, sinks clean, taps work, soap available and lots of driers that actually work. North bound is an unusual layout as the entrance is at one side and the services are laid out left to right meaning its a long walk if you just want toilets. The down side to this site is the car park. It has to be the worst layout and most pot holed on the network, even worse than Strensham. Something really should be done about it as the pot holes are really deep. Also ALL of the car park traffic passes in front of the main entrance door since it was moved. I'd also like to see an out door seating and table area where the old entrance was/is.

Stopped off at Watford Gap on the way to Manchester and as usual services were clean and tidy. Unfortunately the gents toilets could do with some maintenance, some of the sinks taps were missing. Had a hot drink and food in Costa, staff provided a good service as usual.

As a Trucker I found the service's not good at all, here I will list them....
1, Driving into the service's off the motorway are at best hazzadase because off all the BIG pothole's there some are so big and Deep that your ankle can fit down them, driving around this place is at best health and safty nightmare and I for 1 will be reporting it to the athorities as these have been here too long and not been fixed...
2, The toilets are not to bad but there are never any hand washing soap's they are always empty, I have been and told the staff so many time's and have been told it's because it's very bissy, yes it has been at 3pm in the afternoon but at 10+11pm,at night....how are they kidding
my advice is try the next service's it's only 10mins down the road

Usually stop off at Watford Gap if heading North during the week. As always services very clean and tidy and no problem with finding somewhere to park. Queues for food reasonable at McDonalds and other outlets.

Regularly use Watford Gap southbound and have always had a postitive experience. At times during the football season it can get busy and the queue at Costa can be long. Generally though, the toilets are clean and the staff I encounter are polite and helpful.

Unfortunately it seems that people are most likely to comment when they've had a negative experience.
My mum and I both took our cars to meet up at Watford Gap, run by RoadChef. We stayed there, ate some food, bought some books and had a lovely time. We've done this numerous times, and spent large amounts of money there. Unfortunately on this occassion we didn't quite make it out before the two hour mark. So we've now both had lovely letters from a parking fine company, pictures included from their CCTV, charging us both Ã‚Â£50 for the 'pleasure'. (85 if we're not quick enough with the payment!)
Let me just say that neither of us will ever be going to Watford Gap again. Nor to any other RoadChef if we can help it. That's a really good scheme they have going there. Customer friendly. I get that it is meant to discourage 'abuse' of the parking, but really.

Unfortunately I had to stop at the watford gap ''service'' station on route to Luton.The food items for the breakfast are ' 'SLOP' the staff are ignorant and incapable of understanding simple requests, the prices are disgusting and the signs for 'specials' are very decieving, I was ripped off at the till and when I complained the till 'girl' acted totally dumb. unless of course she was. The staff are dissinterested and un clean it's a horrible place never again, and road chef are going to hear of this email to.

I stopped at Watford Gap and had a burger at the burger company. The staff were painfully slow and showed no interest in the customers. The food was a rip off, Ã‚Â£8 for a burger meal and it was a massive disserpointment. It doesnt say that they were beef burgers and now I can see why, it was awefull, spungey and did not taste of meat at all.
The toilets were no better. I will not be stopping there again.

my friend &myself called in on this monday for a snack plus to use the gents,the taps on the wash basons some were nearly falling out a distgrace look liked the maintenance was zero. so we went for a sandwich the price was 3.99,crazy rip off price, I suppose at the end of the the food bins would be overflowing when there are people starving in this country,so we abanded watford gap and called in at leicester services and bought our sandwiches there at 2.40 a big price gap ,one solution buy your snap before you set off or better still make your own.

Costa at Watford Gap Services South Bound has some of the fastest, most helpful staff I've ever encountered on a motorway service area. We all expect to pay a premium price at a service station, this is not the fault of the staff, who all appear clean, hardfworking and dedicated. Thank you. Lovely clean, friendly service

Bp garage northbound.Earlier this evening i stopped to pick a coffee and bacon roll up,i was served by someone that managed to not utter 1 word through the whole transaction and when i asked for her to please warm up the chilled bacon roll she looked horrified..The european man on the tills with her actually spoke to his customers but in such a tone that i left not sure if i was happier being served by someone with the charisma of a dead fish or by Mr nasty..Diabolical to say the least..

We deliberately went to Watford on the 50th anniversary as I have special memories of it + worked there one Summer. While special guests were celebrating we were eating a terrible cold excuse for a meal.No criticism of the staff, they were courteous and polite. 47 years ago we served hot chips and beans - why can't you?

I regularly travel from London to Manchester and need to stop off en route to pray (as I am Muslim and so pray at particular times of the day). Would it be possible to have a small prayer room? It would bring lots of revenue to the service station and I'd gladly pay for use of the room (as I am sure lots of other people would too). A generic prayer room is more than adequate so all faiths can use it.

Have had more than one bad experience here, but the latest (and definitely the last!) was when my family decided to stop off here for some food and a cup of coffee. Astonishingly, the Wimpy, coffee shop and the cafeteria were all closed! Apparently, the "chef" had failed to turn up due to illness - why this affected all 3 establishments at 7PM was a bit of a mystery.

I buy coffee from the costa coffee shop every night. I was dismayed to see that the price of a large black coffee has gone up from Â£2.29 which is pretty expensive for hot water and coffee, to Â£2.40. This is almost a 5% increase and means that the Â£600 - Â£800 per year I spend their is no longer being spent. You are the only place on the M1 that mans its coffee shops over night, You should be Advertising this, making as much of it as you can instead of penalising the customers who use this service. Your staff are fantastic and should be commended but please look at your pricing policy. You have priced me out of the market.
