Please do something about your rat problem. They are everywhere and must be getting into the building as they are so close. May we suggest you close down while you deal with the problem before a major outbreak of Weil's disease or worse does it for you! 9pm 1.2.15

Visited today and bought an overpriced BK meal. The BK counter was filthy. I told the member of staff serving and he just pointed at the queue and shrugged his shoulders. They should have someone cleaning this counter regularly and I explained to him it was very unhygienic. Tried to find a table that wasn't covered in food from previous customers which wasn't easy. Food debris over floor, most chairs and tables. Spoke to a member of staff in the shop about the disgusting state of the restaurant area and she agreed. She said they do have a cleaner but seemed non-plussed about how often they attend. This was at lunchtime and they should have been a cleaner there all the time. No management staff in sight, they should be completely ashamed of the state of their seating area and food counters visited by the public.

Had a really enjoyable Costa coffee. I was meeting up with friends and Winchester services seemed like the ideal place being halfway between us both. I couldn't have wished for a better stop. Friendly helpful staff and a beautiful view across the glass windows to the forest. I will certainly be making sure that we stop here again in the future.

Excellent place for stop after my long journey!

I have used the Winchester Services northbound, because my car broken and I get a good service (thanks Dutty Manager) in all 3 hours I waiting for the recovery.

Good place for stop! nice service and a lot of green spaces for use. will stop again
Maria Smith, Mon 10 Mar 2014
My dog and me love this services. Great customer services and my dog always have fresh water for drink and a lot of space for run.
Mirka Jurek, Fri 7 Mar 2014
Lovely Services, very beautiful place in "middle" of forest! Costa Coffee was very good with friendly staff. My only negative go to toilets (need more attention)
Paul Smith, Tue 4 Mar 2014
I visited Costa on 10 Sept 2013 around 2:55pm - 3:45pm and ordered Tea and was charged £ 7.46. People serving are not honest and look for opportunities to fleece people. The service was awful and the tea was served in a Pot without a regular pot lid. Instead they covered it with a take away lid.
I noticed the amount only when I received a bank statement on 11th and was ripped off by £5.00.
Would strongly recommend people to avoid this service station.

I stopped off at Winchester services 27/08/13 and was absolutely disgusted , as previous comments have said doors missing off toilet doors, no locks, toilets not working and the smell of urine even before you walk into the toilets was terrible. What must our oversea visitors think!! I suggest you get some decent cleaners and repair people in.Because of the smell I would not even buy any food.
June, Wed 28 Aug 2013
One of the worst services I seen. Half the toilets were out of order. The food retailers were exceptionally expensive with glacially slow service. Avoid if possible.
Sam Munich, Fri 9 Aug 2013
Excellent facilities. Service was great to!
Keith, Sun 30 Jun 2013
Stopped there Thursday 9 May 2013, North Bound, at around 1915Hrs. The only hot food available were from the hamburger outfit! The alternative was a heated sandwich from Costa lotta money outfit! Not really good enough in 2013. Enjoyed watching the rabbits playing on the grass outside the window.
Roy Carman, Sun 12 May 2013
We arrived at 10.30pm on Saturday 30.3.13. As we pulled into car park a very large rat was seen scurrying around the left hand litter bin. Two more rats appeared and sat under the car as my husband went inside. As we drove away 5 minutes later 2 more rats were seen scurrying along the pavement! Definitely an infestation. Have contacted local councillor who is going to contact Winchester City Council and Environmental Health.
pennycrump, Mon 1 Apr 2013
Very Busy when I arrived but was served in the Burger King relatively quickly.

Janet, Fri 4 Jan 2013
Our party of 4 stopped at Winchester Services yesterday and went to Costa for a cup of coffee. As I waited one of the staff had a very serious nose blow, which took a while and involved some use of fingers. I ordered my drinks and was concerned to see that the man involved was going to make my coffee, and had not washed his hands! we couldn't have drunk the coffee so I told the man taking my money to ask him to wash his hands, He was reluctant to do this, but eventually did. The other man did wash his hands - by putting them under the tap, and making a bad job of it. We did drink the coffee! The man who made it was otherwise perfectly good, and the service was fine in an unfriendly way. The coffee shop needed a steam clean and the staff needed to take a food hygiene course, as I thought anyone involved in the serving of food and drink is supposed to do. We travel between Dorset and London very frequently and are unlikely to stop at Winchester services again.
jane holden, Sat 17 Nov 2012
Got a ticket for sleeping because I was tired, I will never stop at Winchester ever again. And as I fill my car up there and eat there five times a week, it will be your loss for be greedy.......You are putting people's lives at risk.....
James Bridge, Sat 17 Nov 2012
Very pleasant place to stop. Excellent facilities.
James, Mon 1 Oct 2012
Stayed at the Days Inn & assumed I would be able to get food at the services after 10pm or breakfast before 7. Although there were no signs up indicating closure times, I subsequently found that Burger King closes at 10 & no breakfasts are available before 7.
Also, W.H. Smith closes at 11pm each day to update their computers - despite claiming to be open 24/7. So it wasn't even possible to buy a bar of chocolate to make up for the food I couldn't get. What other shop in 2012 has to close for half an hour daily to sort their computers out? And why no signs to indicate opening hours of the various facilities?
Staff on duty were temporary ("I'm only here two days mate"), unfriendly & unhelpful, & two of them seemed to speak little English. The few staff on duty seemed to be asleep in the back, & had to be called several times before they came out.
But, worst of all, the car park is running with rats, especially late at night or early in the morning when it's quiet. I saw rats on three occasions during my two day stay. I see that there were numerous complaints about rats on this site from months ago, & yet the problem still exists. Having phoned Moto, it seems that they don't know about the rat problem, & don't much care either. Sounds like a job for Winchester City Council to deal with.
In view of the rat infestation, perhaps it's just as well I didn't get to eat here. AVOID! Fleet services are run by a different company & are much better.
Mike, Wed 19 Sep 2012
Excellent service area heading towards London. Nice modern building. Toilets were clean and the staff in the Costa Coffee are very friendly. Will definitely stop here again rather than at Rownhams or Fleet where have had numerous bad experiences.
Adam Lewis, Mon 6 Aug 2012
Stopped southbound on the M3. Dreadful queue at Burger King with the slowest staff ever. So I opted for a sandwich from EDC. Why do they charge VAT on a sandwich. It is not hot food, and they don't ask whether it is for takeaway, for which there is no VAT.
And as for the price of a packet of crisps. What a ripoff! 99p for a standard bag of Walkers crisps. Not only is that almost 3 times the cost in a shop, it is about a 600% markup on the trade price.
At least the cleaning staff were doing their job efficiently.
A Motorist, Fri 3 Aug 2012
Stopped for a BKIt was great
vicki, Fri 3 Aug 2012
My wife and I called in at this service station at 10:15 on Friday 29th June. It was quiet and potentially the reason why rats were running around. One particular rat came from the entrance out to the car parking area. So don't stop here if you have any such phobia of vermin!
Also I had the unfortunate experience of trying to purchase some milk. On entering WH Smiths' a supervisor was at the till. Just as I was going to the till he walks round to stock shelves. I wait a short while ans ask if 'I can pay for this milk?' I was told ' I am doing something, I will be with you.'Welcome to Britain I thought.I can not imagine what overseas tourists would think. Rats and what awful service! On the matter of rats we have contacted Winchester City Council who advised that this had already been brought to their attention and they were addressing the issue.
C.Reynolds, Mon 2 Jul 2012
My wife and I stopped at the northbound side of Winchester Services. My wife wanted coffee only and so joined a long queue for very expensive coffee. I went over to the Eat and Drink Company Food Company counter and waited in front of the 'hot food' which at 11.15 am on a Saturday morning could have looked better( less congealed and over warmed with some parts completely empty) I decided I would risk a some . I waited with my tray and I waited , the two men at the other end of the counter glanced my way occasionally. Was this curiosity or blatant contempt to wish to interrupt their conversation I'm not too sure which? So I waited and I waited. I stood back and they returned out of sight into the preparation area . ( That would be 'interesting' I'm sure . I doubt clean. One came out and sat at the till so I asked if he was working. He sneered some sort of incomprehendible reply. My sarcasm was possibly obvious I confess. On repeating the question he snarlingly asked if I 'would like some breakfast. I replied I did but not now . In the meantime two other couples came and went asking each other aloud whether this section was open or not. The second man came out and served two ladies with one coffee and the first man took the inflated price at the till . He could of course sit down here. He glared at me when I might glance over whislt still waiting for my wife to escape from Costa Coffee Clutches when they had emptied her purse for the bucket size hot drink with chocholate sprinkles.
I have filled in the time at 11 am but I was not sure whether to tell the time I started to queue and wait or the time I gave up all hope to just stand back and watch others .
I have used this Services both ways before without much hassle. They are relatively OK and relatively clean and whilst the value is poor it is no worse than most Motorway Services.
john boman, Tue 5 Jun 2012
My review is simply they are a rip off food, drinks, anything, I avoid 99% of the time the 1% when desperate late at night, £156.9 for diesel, disgusting !!
White Van Delivery Man, Tue 15 May 2012
Stopped at this hell hole on our way back from Bournemouth. This place displays everything possible that is bad about motorway service areas. The staff are abrubt and rude and the place is totally shabby. We have to start a grading process for these service areas and the results should be displayed in the entrance lobbies of them.I have saved the worst to last though, the whole outside area is overrun by rats, never seen anything like it in my life. I am in the process of looking up which council covers environmental health issues in this location and writing to them. I challenge Moto to come onto this site and answer the comments.
Mark Butcher, Sun 13 May 2012
Parked at the services to use the hotel (Days Inn). Would not go near the main service area because of the pack of rats roaming around after dark. Very scary place, only use after dark if you are not afraid of rats!!
James Burke, Thu 26 Apr 2012
Whilst working in Dorset for the day and travelling from London stopped off at Winchester Southbound in the morning and Northbound in the afternoon. Both times had a pleasent experience at both sites, very clean and airy inside. The toilets were OK but not of a high standard. Ate at Costa & BK so knew what to expect, however £3.99 at Costa for a ham & cheese toastie? I'm sure they are not that expensive in their high street outlets..
JB, Wed 14 Dec 2011
Stopped there on long journey, quite tired at 3am in September. The worst possible decision. After using toilet (all unclean as described in other comments) waiting ages for service (nearly £20 ripp off for soggy full english followed by tasteless coffee) shopping around and having little rest (no any other option if you are not going to stay anywhere overnight) finally moved on after 4 hrs just to get a £50 ticket from cowboys for parking on they precious premises! Never again! Avoid at any cost
Bo Kupisinski, Fri 28 Oct 2011
Had the misfortune to visit Winchester services area Southbound on the 25th.Oct.2011,although the overall appearance is very nice,I made the mistake of taking a friend to the EDF cafe.I ordered 2 coffees and 2 breakfast "Baps".Although the coffees were quite tasty although expensive, the baps were disgusting. The fillings of bacon, sausage egg and hash brown were obviously low quality catering pack cheap ingredients, and the bap actually fell apart on the first bite and tasted of cotton wool. The price of this feast,an astonishing £17.50.Added to that we had to pay 40 pence for two satchets of tomato sauce ( with no brown sauce available. There seemed little point in complining, as we were so hungry due to an early start that we ate as much of this rubbish as we could stand, and also the staff were a little difficult to understand.Never, ever, ever again
Andy Laker, Wed 26 Oct 2011
We visited the EDC cafe & have never experienced service like it. Rude, unable to communicate & clearly never heard of the term 'customer service'. This site needs an immediate 'mystery shopper' type audit.
Hacked Off of Sittingbourne, Tue 25 Oct 2011
Stopped for a sandwich on drive back from Southampton. £2.99 for an egg mayo that sells for £1 in any supermarket. Can anyone justify this extortionate pricing? We left without buying anything ..............
Paul Fieldhouse, Fri 7 Oct 2011
I have stopped at these services many times, both Southbound and Northbound, and will continue to do so.
Always clean, car park varies from empty to 3/4 full. Only ever had to queue once at Costa, and that's because a coachload of pensioners beat me to the counter. Staff at WH SMiths can be a bit miserable, but this is echoed across most service stations.
4ChordsNoNet, Fri 16 Sep 2011
BK had no Shakes, or any staff it seemed. Massive queue and one guy doing everything. Toilets were dirty and most sinks not working . Not so good. I drive on to Fleet
Steven O, Wed 17 Aug 2011
I visited the services on 13th July 2011, heading South. The mens' toilets had five washbasins out of action and one hand drier not working. I was unable to find anyone in a managerial role to ask about this.Service at both Costa counters was slow and not very customer friendly.I shall avoid this service station in future.

We stopped for something to eat on Saturday 28 May at approximately 3.00 p.m. on our way to Hayling Island for a week's holiday. Apart from service being really poor and slow (only 2 serving plus one of those was collecting money as well as doing coffees and food which is not right hence the queue was lengthy) the food had probably been sitting in the trays for hours and was luke warm. The floors were filthly and littered with food droppings which looked like had been there for one week and spilled drinks and found it difficult to find a clean table even though the place was not that busy. All tables had dirty plates/trays/left over food on them with nobody cleaning or clearing the tables. Overall disgusting and at one point we were going to get back in our car.
Our week's holiday was ruined as we both went down with severe sickness and diarrhea and vomiting for the whole week. We would never stop here again or recommend this to anyone.
Noel Dunne & Madeline Farhat, Mon 6 Jun 2011
Having stopped at these services 2 Mondays running we're pretty annoyed at not being able to get a decent coffee at 5am in the morning, last Monday we stopped and found costa closed (used to be 24 hrs i thought) went to the cafe who have a costa machine only to be told all machines are broken and we need to go get a coffee from the machine in wh smith, YUCK! i hate that suff, this week we're told that there is no one on who is trained to work these machines! seriously, its not rocket science, if your going to offer a service to people then do it but this half hearted effort is pathetic and will stop people stopping at Moto, its definately put me off! Winchester services get sorted please your services are pathetic!
Christine, Mon 23 May 2011
Dropped into the Winchester southbound services last night at about 8pm during a long trip with family on board. Place was quiet and we were able to park very close to the restaurant area main door. Within a minute of parking, one of the kids spotted a large rat running to and fro between some bushes and the entrance door. This was followed by 2 more huge rats a minute or so later - the place is clearly absolutely infested with them. Rat faeces and urine are therefore being tramped into the restaurant area and also back into people's cars.
I reported our sighting to a chap (perhaps Turkish, with poor English) who claimed to be the duty manager. He sheepishly admitted that he knew about the rats but said it was all right because it was all legal, whatever that meant!
The whole place is a disgusting health risk, particularly to small children at ground level - avoid at all costs.
Mike C., Fri 31 Dec 2010
We've just left it now. Had a lovely time. Amy, Paul and myself had whopper meals, Kate went for a cheeky royal with cheese. It was far superior to Watford gap burger king on Christmas eve. The shops were a bit rubbish, less bargains and deals than we expected, still, I shouldn't grumble. We did manage to buy a beautiful hand crafted personalised pen. we'll give this to Paul later when we arrive. Possibly we'll do a presentation with the smoke machine that Gibb bought from maplin on the way.
The intererior was a bit airy, and it wouldn't be very good if I was there on my own with everything closed. The lighting was a little harsh as well, could have had better ambience. All in all though, a not too unpleasant experience.
Chris, Thu 30 Dec 2010
We're on our way now. Dead excited. We've read all the comments so we're well prepared. Particularly looking forward to getting some deals and bargains. We might even spot a few minor celebs or local points of interest.
We're there now! Eeeeek well excited
Why were Winchester Services closed on Sunday evening -May 23rd? There were no warnings on the overhead notices about this? Have they stopped being open 24hours and if so why have the notice boards not been updated?
Janette Lynch, Mon 24 May 2010
Hi everyone...I broke down om the m3 last friday and struggled into these services.I made phone calls to get assistance but ended up staying in the services for 6 hours.I finally managed to solve the problem on my own and went on my way.2 days later i recieved a parking ticket demanding £50!!! be very carefull in these services, they are out to rob you for every penny!!!
rich, Fri 14 May 2010
stopped there today, possibly the worst meal I have ever had in a service station we both had the all day to tubes of processed junk that were meant to be sausages, 2 hard fried eggs, over cooked beans & chips that had been cooked & re-fried more than once I suspect, a paper mug of coffee that was made with water & boiling point so had burnt the coffee.only stop here if you need the loo, whatever you do don't get food from EDC get a bag of crisps & a drink
nathan, Sat 23 Jan 2010
Stop there almost every time I go past northbound, the place is clean and well ordered the petrol stations both have good facilities. I find that costa expensive compared to costa on the high street. The shop has some good offers, overall a clean and good place to stop.
Richard, Wed 6 Jan 2010
21st December 2009, 7.30pm. Decided to stop for drink and a pee, and fill up with fuel because of the reports of atrocious weather / road conditions further up the M3 / M25. Nice chap in the Costa bit convinced us to have fish & chips, freshly cooked. Beautiful! And not too pricey for a motorway. The drinks were a bit pricey. £2 for a cardboard mug of tea. Hint: Buy a meal rather than a snack. Better value (and perhaps share it?)We spent the next 5 hours stuck in the car on the motorways, so we were grateful that we were well fed, watered, and toileted. Conclusion: Great staff, give him a pat on the back from us. Not too pricey for a motorway. And it's reasonable food, not greasy spoon rubbish. For the future: It would have been nice to have the TV on with local weather reports / road conditions, if that is possible?
A. King, Tue 22 Dec 2009
Better than Fleet, but was better under Roadchef, as moto does not make it's own food. Still, it's good a great building, with relatively clean toilets, but the only descent place to eat is EDC, since there is no M&S, which is a shame.
CM, Mon 17 Aug 2009
£6 for a jacket potato!
Terry, Wed 8 Jul 2009
On may to Southampton this morning, at about 06.00hrs. I had the misfortune to stop at you services. To get into the building I had to squeeeze passed four of you staff smoking in the doorway, which meant that I got covered in smoke. The toilets were discusting. Urine on all of the seats and at least one door hanging off and one with no lock. even the toilet paper dispensers were broken. There was no-one in any of the shops to serve me either. When I left I got anther facefull of smoke from you staff in the doorway Unless I'm desperate I will never go there again.

i travel down with a work collegue everymonday, and have found the prices in the catering going up and up.when we first started stopping for a breakfast on a monday, the prices were really good, now we have to pay for absoloutly everything, 20p for sauce carton, you get milk sachets which go all over our clothes, no butter anymore just a small amount put on your plate for toast.the staff are fantastic, always welcoming, very helpful, but the prices are getting diabolicalhow can you justify for two pieces of toast with two eggs and a cup of tea. £5.08. paying 66p tax.when did this tax come in.????pls change your tarrifs, or you will lose customers fast.we also used to stop onthe way home ona friday, but we cant do it anymore, too expensive.
CAROLE JARRATT, Tue 16 Dec 2008
Apparently recently moved from Roadchef (who had been pretty good) to Moto - lots of banners saying "Under new Management!!". Shame - as its now appalling. BurgerKing outlet being built so just Costa Coffee (not bad), and EDC for hot food. Very limited options - crusted over curry, chilli, fried fish with batter more like a weapon that a foodstuff - and this was all at 2.15pm in the afternoon - not exactly off-peak. Unhygienic and miserable staff. Never again.
Steve Gardner, Mon 8 Dec 2008
Bought a 1 litre carton of Cravendale supposedly fresh filtered whole milk with a use by date of 24th Oct on Sunday 19th Oct. States on the carton fresh for 7 days guaranteed yet the milk had gone off by Monday 20th and had to be thrown away.
Valerie Long, Tue 21 Oct 2008
Having already found - and reported to you earlier - a running tap at Clacket Lane ladies toilet, later on at about lunchtime on the same day I again found a tap running (hot water this time) at this service station. I could not turn it off or find a member of staff to report this to.
Miriam Carter, Fri 3 Oct 2008
South bound, very pleased to find spaces for caravans but there are only two.
Colin Lapthorn, Fri 19 Sep 2008
North bound, looking for the caravan area, we found most of the signs obscured by bushes and needed to drive round twice before parking with the HGV's.
Sunday at 3.00p.m.about six people eating.Tried Wimpy and was told no eggs and no baguettes.Walked next door and picked up two vac-packed sandwiches and was told at checkout we cannot toast these as we have no grill, you will have to take them over to Costa outlet!I refused and the server relented and took them herself.Seating for 200+ and only a few eating,I wonder why? Sadly lacking a site Manager and staff that have Customer CareRon Francis
Ron Francis, Sun 2 Mar 2008
The services were modern and up to scratch!

Stopped here on the way back to Maidenhead from Southampton and have to agree with the Costa Coffee being very good. The tea I had stayed hot for ages! I was impressed with the overall cleanliness of the services too.
Liam D'Souza, Mon 2 Oct 2006
My father and I go to the Costa Coffee in the Winchester Services every morning on our way to work. We always receive a warm welcome, and have come to know the staff there by name. I would suggest going there for a break to anyone, as they are always polite, friendly and keep the place lovely and clean.
